Sunday’s chat extended into realms other than those originally posted and one of the areas that emerged was the upcoming beatification of Ven. Louis Brisson, the Founder of the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales.

Sister: I am going to digress to chat a bit about Ven Louis Brisson, because I find him tough yet delightful and I think he is not well known

 Jul 22 2012, 8:20 PM

G: I don’t know anything about him

R (guest): I’ve never heard of him

 C: same here

Sister : For ex, he founded the Order the Oblates ,after St Francis de Sales, yet he actually “admonished”  his own patron in places, sort of tongue in cheek.  I’d have to get the quotes to be specific

Sister : Mother Chappuis a Visitation nun was the one to tell him to start the Order of Oblates but for 30 years he did not listen to her- until Jesus silently appeared to him. Then he founded the Oblates!

J: Sister I love the doubting Thomas types…I fit into that some..show me the evidence

 C: Wow, that’s a long time!

Sister : He kept challenging God to give him signs and even when he got them he delayed

Sister : Yet he will be beatified Sept 22 in Troyes France

G: Did he not trust the signs or himself?

Sister : He also founded the Oblate Sisters of St Francis de Sales

Jul 22 2012, 8:26 PM

J: I love this guy already…I do that all the time…no matter how many Godincidences are sent my way..I always end up ignoring them

Sister : Good question- don’t know- he just did not follow thru after the sign

Jul 22 2012, 8:26 PM

G: Why J? NOt personal, I just want to try to understand.

J: G…I always end up thinking I imagined them or made too much of them…and usually just forget or ignore

Jul 22 2012, 8:27 PM

J: probably cause to really start to believe they happen would mean radical change and probably not ready for that

J: or not capable of it

G: I do that too, I am scared I might be trusting my self or worry that I might think it is God when it is not, but then would it not help to talk to a priest to help decide?

G: Oh, I struggle with things like that all the time. But that is what brings us straight to God and also raises us up higher than we started.

G: Is the problem perhaps more of having cold feet in doing God’s Will? Because I am guilty of that when I think it hard or do not like it. But will it help do you think? What if your director say this and this is from God, now go do it. Then what?

 Jul 22 2012, 8:30 PM

J: that is the tricky part G…I have hopes of finding a director that I will trust so much that he understands me and relates…and then he can point me in what I need to do

 Jul 22 2012, 8:31 PM

J: help me to understand it is not my imaginations but something from God

Jul 22 2012, 8:32 PM

J: or not

Gwendolyn M: Yes, I agree with that. BUt what if he points, will you go?

Sister : You must be in your heart fully committed to doing God’s will and then even if you feel you will die doing it- you will get the grace and the ease to do it

Jul 22 2012, 8:32 PM

J: I sure hope so  because that is what I desire to happen

J: I have a mind that thinks too much and get so confused with all the thoughts..I need someone to cut through that and point

G: Me too, I find it hard but I try to say “Thy Will be done” even if I don’t want to do it. Many times I have to pray that Jesus will uphold me to do it.

J: yes

J: I think myself right out of what may have been a life altering grace from God

G: Mine does that too. I’m in my head too much.

34 PM

Sister : Stay with the first impressions

G: But I hope that in my obviously great weakness, God is working more in me because I need him to. This weakness gives me hope and joy sometimes.

Jul 22 2012, 8:35 PM

R (guest): I think we all do that sometimes

J: Sister…you said that he got a silent visit from Jesus…what do you mean by that? what happened exactly?

Jul 22 2012, 8:36 PM

Sister : The nun left the room and all of a sudden Jesus was standing there in front of Fr Brisson- Jesus never said a word but looked at him somewhat severely

Jul 22 2012, 8:36 PM

Sister : Fr understood right away that Jesus wanted what the nun, Mother Chappuis,  had been telling him

J: wow…so just like Saint Thomas…Jesus came to him to prove it

J: Where is my silent visit? haha…just kidding

G: And then did Father go about doing it immediately?

Sister : Fairly soon after that

G: Pushed those cold feet along; His soul probably needed it.

Sister : Speaking of feet- that was the miracle that got Fr Brisson to be beatified!

C: interesting! interesting!

Sister : A little boy in Ecuador had crushed feet or legs from a tractor accident- when they prayed to Fr Brisson and applied his relics the child was healed

Sister : There will be a pilgrimage associated with the beatification in France

G: What a miracle!

J: Sister so he needs one more miracle to be a Saint?

Jul 22 2012, 8:44 PM

J: canonized I mean

Sister: http://www.franz-sales-verlag.de/brisson/brisson_en/index.html
