J: how did everyone take the Pope resigning?

the internet really seems to be a buzz with prophecies and sign of the times7

Car Our pope is such a brave man. I am certain he prayed about his decision alot.

J: yes I completely trust his judgment

C: yes, J, unsettled times bring all that sort of thing out of the woodwork. I disregard it because it generates hysteria, not true religious feeling

I was shocked at first, but now wonder what is really wrong with his health. I support his decision though

J: what do you disregard Carol Ann? the end times prophecy stuff?

Car: There are always people who see the end times. I tell my rel. ed. students that if someone predicts a certain year or day, we know for sure it wont happen then, because Jesus said no man would know!

Sister : I was surprised too, very much, but I met him,in 2008, in St Patrick’s and the holiness he exudes is awesome

 C: Yes Jim, that’s what I disregard

J: I do admit to being a little too curious about that and spending some times looking at that

Sister : It was a serious discernment. I wish I could discern that well!

C: beware of false prophets

Sr. M: So, what’s the reaction to the Pope’s resignation?

J: shock sadness

 but trust his judgment completely

Sr. M: My homeroom girls were unanimous in telling me they thought he was wrong to resign.

J: love our pope

__Ra: I think for me, when I first heard it was something I read and didn’t believe it, but then I figured the Holy Spirit will take care of us

Sister : Interesting about the students. Reasons?

Car: I was suprised, but then I remembered that he had written a paper before he was pope that agreed with a pope resigning if he was physically no longer capable

Sr. M: The girls insisted he should have stayed to the bitter end, like Blessed JPII.

Jim I: how do you feel Sr M?

Sr. M: They said, “God put him there, so he can’t just leave!”

__Ra: he can, per Canon law

C: Well, I might have hoped he’d stay too, but he is a different personality than JPII and so wouldn’t have the same reaction to being in the spotlight as things get worse

Sr. M: I tried to explain to them that he prayed about it long and hard and knew it was best for the Church as a whole.

Car: JPII had a special vocation to use his suffering while he was pope. Not everyone has the same vocation.

C: I read on one of the blogs somewhere that he’d been praying at the tomb of the only other pope to resign

JI: I think they both taught us a lesson…JPII taught perseverance and Pope Benedict taught humility

Sr. Ma: Good point, J!

Sister : Yes

Sr. M: Differnt popes for different folks?

C: that’s funny!

RA: he will still be referred to as His Holiness right?

Sr. M: J’s right that humility is just as important as perseverance – maybe more important.

J: yes I hears someone say he would be

Sr. M: So many Church concerns were overlooked as JPII was less able to address them.

J: called Holiness I meant…but bishop of some sort

Sr. M: Bishop emeritus of Rome

Car: and humility is so hard to find now days, with self esteem gurus everywhere

J: ahhh that’s it…thanks Sister M

 Sr. M: So right, Car!

Sister: Helps us to focus on humility during this Lent

Sr. M: Humility’s not about thinking less of myself but about thinking about myself less often.

 Car: lent is about humility…
