I suspect that the gift Jesus wants most is ourselves, followed by trust in Him, love and total surrender. SR Susan: He wants us to rest in Him and let the Babe Jesus rest within

Judy–It occurs to me that He also wants us to give Him our weakness and sinfulness.

Anne Marie: I am Sr Susan even tho it says Anne Marie

Nov 30 2014, 7:35 PM

Good Evening everyone, Happy Advent!

Nov 30 2014, 7:47 PM

Dawn L: Yay. Hello Sr!

Guest6019 (guest): Judy: I was really touched by the Gospel today which tells a number of times to “watch.” I am going to work on watchfulness, alertness to the messages of God either within me or in the Scriptures. That means really setting aside time to read and listen7:47 PM

Dawn L: I am doing a Marian Concecration that will end on Feast of Immaculate Conception

Nov 30 2014, 7:48 PM

Carol Ann C.: Our pastor gave a wonderful sermon about being always ready-not in a frightened way, but joyfully

Nov 30 2014, 7:48 PM

Nov 30 2014, 7:54 PM

Sister Susan Marie: Even tho I am Visitation I am doing a Cistercian retreat- all spiritualities connect someplace!

Nov 30 2014, 7:55 PM

Sister Susan Marie: Growing in contemplation is the goal, right?

56 PM

Dawn L: Isn’t Cistercian the order Thomas…he wrote the Seven Story Mountain? Sr Susan, will you be in silence during this retreat?

Nov 30 2014, 7:56 PM

Sister Susan Marie: THe Advent season with its silent aspects is a good support for that growth

Nov 30 2014, 7:56 PM

Guest6019 (guest): Judy: I am looking at the 4th question– how can we win back the spiritual significance of Christmas. I think one way is to really celebrate Advent. I do my shopping and write cards, but I do no decorating until the 4th week of Advent. I want to savor the expectation so as to rejoice even more in the birth of the Messiah.

Nov 30 2014, 7:59 PM

Guest6019 (guest): Judy: And I forgot to mention that I put four candles (the kind that work automatically) in my window and light one the first week of Advent and an additional one for each successive week

Guest6019 (guest): Judy: Advent stimulates a feeling of excitement and anticipation in me. I usually play Handel’s Messiah sometime during Advent. It lends to the excitement. Sr. Susan, have you heard the album “Advent at Ephesus” by the Benedictine Nuns of Mary Queen of Angels?” Maybe that would be good for your refectory.

Nov 30 2014, 8:03 PM

Anne Marie: We’ve simplified our chapel decorations, and have the Advent wreath front and center.

Carol Ann C.: busted halo does an advent calendar that focuses on corporal works of mercy

Nov 30 2014, 8:09 PM

Guest6019 (guest): Judy: Perhaps an Advent wreath in the classroom with the recitation of the prayers for Advent wreaths or even the collect from the daily Mass would help.

Nov 30 2014, 8:09 PM

Anne Marie: Busted Halo has an Advent calendar I use.

Nov 30 2014, 8:10 PM

Anne Marie: The Mass collect for the day may be the best Advent source of all.

:10 PM

Patricia W: our local Knights of Columbus have sold ‘Keep Christ in Christmas’ car magnets…i think i’m going to share the idea of maybe creating an Advent one that folks can use before the ‘Keep Christ in Christmas’ one or in conjunction with itPM

Anne Marie: Keep Advent before Christmas!, maybe

Nov 30 2014, 8:11 PM

Sister Susan Marie: Interesting idea

PM

Guest6019 (guest): Judy: You might put the statues of Mary and Joseph in the back of the classroom and move them toward the front a little bit each day as a reminder of the trip from Nazareth to Bethlehem.

Nov 30 2014, 8:11 PM

Anne Marie: Nice idea

Nov 30 2014, 8:11 PM

Patricia W: i’ll share the idea and see what they come up with

Nov 30 2014, 8:12 PM

Sister Susan Marie: Sr M Roberta mentioned St Francis de Sales Sdvent sermons- have you all read those?

13 PM

Anne Marie: We have lots of copies we could lend or sell.

Nov 30 2014, 8:14 PM

Guest6019 (guest): Judy: Another idea is to put a manger in the classroom and have straw nearby. Each time a child completes an assignment or does a good deed, he or she puts a straw in the manger to prepare the bed for the Infant Jesus.

Nov 30 2014, 8:14 PM

Anne Marie: But both Sophia and Tan are now good sources for SFdS wisdom all year.

Carol Ann C.: and it seems to start earlier and earlier every year

Nov 30 2014, 8:18 PM

Guest6019 (guest): Judy: A variant on the straw idea–have squares of fabric near the manger. On completing assignments or good deeds children can choose one piece of fabric and use fabric glue to put the pieces together to make a softer bed for the Infant.

Nov 30 2014, 8:23 PM

Anne Marie: Joining your local parish for Advent devotions is good, too.

2014, 8:24 PM

Guest6019 (guest): Judy: In the reading for evening prayer today, Paul says, “Rejoice in the Lord, always. I say it again, rejoice.” Advent is a joyous season. Let us find ways to celebrate it that do not leave us so exhausted that we lose the spirit of the season. As the saying goes, “Jesus is the reason for the season.”

25 PM

Anne Marie: Yes, that’s why it’s important to choose one main thing to do during the four weeks and stick to it.
