Franz_von_SalesAttitudes are everything.  Our perception of what is happening at the moment in our lives will color our response to that situation.  But if we keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, then our actions will be done for love of Him even amidst dryness and difficulties. St. Francis addresses the unexpected happenings which upset all our plans when he says: “No inequality of events must ever carry away our hearts and minds into inequalities of temper.”

St. Jane helps us to remain faithful to serving God in others even when prayer seems impossible.  That poses a challenge, but she says: “Look at my hand; it cannot be more naked and simple than it is; and so must we be, serving God without having any other intention than to please Him.  To serve God purely means not to seek for consolations out of self-love, but to serve Him as faithfully amid dryness and aridity as amid feelings and delight.”

Our psalmist also speaks to our varying moods when he says: “Though anguish and distress have seized me, I delight in your commands.”  Psalm 119:143
