Scripture often uses the the “heart” to symbolize one’s soul, the inner depths of one’s being, as in, “Mary kept all these things, pondering them in her heart” (Luke 2:19). Based on this, what does it mean to love the Sacred Heart of Jesus? Jesus also have a real, physical heart. Based on this, what does it mean to love the Sacred Heart of Jesus? Even more, what might it mean to worship the Sacred Heart of Jesus?

What else do you think can be symbolized or represented by “heart”?
In the apparitions Saint Maragert Mary received, Jesus told her of 12 promises of special grace that would come to those who have a devotion to His Sacred Heart. Do you have a devotion to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus?

Lisa C: To me loving the Sacred Heart means peace and safety

Oct 18 2015, 7:24 PM

Sister Susan Marie: Questions are easier this time

Oct 18 2015, 7:24 PM

Judy K: For me, loving the Sacred Heart of Jesus is to love, especially His Heart, called the center of love, with our whole being

15, 7:25 PM

Lisa C: Also when you love someone or miss someone you get a fullness or emptiness in the area where you heart is

Lisa C: I cannot separate my images of Jesus from the Sacred Heart 26 PM

Lisa C: The Sacred Heart is who He is, love

Oct 18 2015, 7:26 PM

Dawn L: in sufferng or in consolation

5, 7:26 PM

Lisa C: I love that He says to St. MM that she can go into His Heart 7:27 PM

Judy K: We do not love His Heart apart from the rest of His being, but as the sign of His great love for us and to worship His Heart as the divine symbol of divine love. 7:27 PM

Lisa C: When I was little and Sr. Margaret Mary told us about the Sacred Heart devotion I thought it was so amazing to be able to be in His Heart PM

Sister Susan Marie: Once  I understood Jesus to say that all other loves were a window to the Love of His Heart

Lisa C: I put the promises of the Sacred Heart on my Facebook page on Friday (St. MM day) and people are asking about them

Oct 18 2015, 7:31 PM

Sister Susan Marie: Wonderful!

Oct 18 2015, 7:31 PM

Lisa C: That is an amazing thought Mother

Guest7043 (guest): Rough week it’s soo wonderful to know that Jesus Loves us soo much ! Read a quote from Father Leo Clifford today ! Your only sin is forgetting how madly in love Jesus is with you ”

Oct 18 2015, 7:32 PM

Judy K: I always think of Jesus’ remark to St. Margaret Mary “Behold this Heart that has so loved men and is so little loved by them in return.” He is divine but I can imagine His Heart breaking because of the neglect of His people.

Oct 18 2015, 7:32 PM

Sister Susan Marie: Once I understood that the flames of His Heart consume His Heart for love of us- then in this very picture it was as if the Heart disappeared into the flames

33 PM

Lisa C: Mother when I was looking at the same window on retreat was when I saw light and felt that He said He gave everything for me and He wants all of me

Oct 18 2015, 7:33 PM

Sister Susan Marie: It seems like an anointed stained glass window of His Heart!

:33 PM

Judy K: I guess He is getting our attention, and is asking for a bit of suffering from us. PM

Lisa C: Mother, it just happens to be in front of our face there. I used to get the same kind of safe wonderful feeling from the painting over the altar on the other side of the chapel

Oct 18 2015, 7:35 PM

Sister Susan Marie: St Margaret Mary mural?

5, 7:35 PM

Lisa C: Yes Mother

Oct 18 2015, 7:35 PM

Lisa C: It is Jesus not the painting or the window….it is the most important image of Him in my opinion

Oct 18 2015, 7:35 PM

Lisa C: i.e.,The Sacred Heart

Oct 18 2015, 7:36 PM

Guest7043 (guest): Your right Judy we need suffering in our life to keep us close to God and close to those around us everyday !

015, 7:36 PM

Judy K: Ah that all of us might be consumed in those flames and transformed into living flames of His love.

Sister Susan Marie: We need to keep placing ourselves there as He is trying to draw us

Oct 18 2015, 7:37 PM

Lisa C: At that retreat I also felt like I wanted my heart to be a tabernacle for Jesus with a glass door so His rays would emanate from me

Oct 18 2015, 7:37 PM

Sister Susan Marie: That is awesome

7:37 PM

Lisa C: I hope that is not presumptuous

Oct 18 2015, 7:38 PM

Sister Susan Marie: No more like a call to you

Sister Susan Marie: The Year of Mercy is approaching- what is more Merciful than His Heart>?

Oct 18 2015, 7:39 PM

Guest7043 (guest): Beautiful Lisa ! His Heart is soo Merciful ! Let us extend His Mercy to others everyday !!!

Oct 18 2015, 7:40 PM

Sister Susan Marie: Our Sister St. Margaret Mary, whose Feast we celebrate today, said of His Heart : “This Divine Heart is an inexhaustible fountain from which three streams are continually flowing. The first is the stream of mercy, which flows down upon sinners and brings the spirit of sorrow and repentance. The second is a stream of charity which brings relief to all those who are suffering under some need, and especially those who are striving for perfection.. The third is the stream of love and light for perfect friends w

Oct 18 2015, 7:40 PM

Sister Susan Marie: The third is the stream of love and light for perfect friends whom He wills to unite with Himself. (Letter to Father Croiset September 15, 1689)

:41 PM

Judy K: I don’t think so, Lisa. I once asked the question “Did you ever wish that you were a monstrance? And I replied that “you are a monstrance”- you lift Jesus up before others to be worshiped, you hold Him for others to see, and you provide a home in which He can rest. :42 PM

Lisa C: If Jesus is in you and you realize it, it feels like a huge responsibility

Oct 18 2015, 7:42 PM

Lisa C: He is in everyone

Oct 18 2015, 7:42 PM

Lisa C: At least the HS is

Oct 18 2015, 7:42 PM

Guest7043 (guest): Wow Sister Susan thank you for sharing that !

Oct 18 2015, 7:43 PM

Judy K: What a beautiful thought from Sister St. Margaret Mary. Mercy, charity and love do flow from the Heart of Jesus like a river, a river that will never run dry. Let us drink of it often.

Oct 18 2015, 7:44 PM

Sister Susan Marie: St Margaret Mary has so many profound understandings of the Sacred heart- much in her letters

Oct 18 2015, 7:44 PM

Lisa C: I have to read her letters again

Oct 18 2015, 7:47 PM

Sister Susan Marie: As long as this divine Heart is satisfied, loved
and glorified, that must be enough for us. SMM

Oct 18 2015, 7:47 PM

Sister Susan Marie: Hi Carol Anne

Carol Ann: Hi Everyone! Sorry I’m late

Oct 18 2015, 7:48 PM

Lisa C: Hi Carol Ann

Oct 18 2015, 7:48 PM

Sister Susan Marie: Letters are filled with her Love of Jesus and insights about His Heart

Oct 18 2015, 7:48 PM

Sister Susan Marie: Glad you are here

Oct 18 2015, 7:48 PM

Sister Susan Marie: Ann said she can;t make it today

Oct 18 2015, 7:50 PM

Sister Susan Marie: you will not regard yourself in any other way than as belonging to and dependent upon the adorable Heart of Our Lord Jesus Christ. You must have recourse to It in all your necessities and take up your abode there in so far as you can. He will make up for what is wanting in your imperfect actions and sanctify your good ones if only you conform yourself in everything to His holy will. He has great plans in store for you. He will procure much glory for Himself through you if you will only let Him do so. (St M

Guest7043 (guest): Let’s remember Jesus when we get tempted to be unmercifully , uncharitable or unloving when we remember His Sacred Heart we will remember who we really are and we can quickly return to Be Merciful charitable and Loving !

Oct 18 2015, 7:51 PM

Sister Susan Marie: Also from St MM This loving Heart, I assure you, is at present my whole
occupation, not only during prayer but always. I find in It
a paradise of peace which makes me indifferent to
everything else. Everything else seems contemptible in comparison

2 PM

Sister Susan Marie: We are so rich with all the saints!

Oct 18 2015, 7:52 PM

Guest7043 (guest): Amen Sister !!!

Oct 18 2015, 7:52 PM

Carol Ann: It is so much more worthwhile to read the lives of the saints than some of the other biographies out there

Oct 18 2015, 7:53 PM

Lisa C: That quote, “He will make up for what is wanting in your imperfect actions and sanctify your good ones if only you conform yourself in everything to His holy will. ” makes it seem more possible to live up to Him living in us

Oct 18 2015, 7:53 PM

Judy K: Yes, that great cloud of witnesses spoken of by Paul.

Oct 18 2015, 7:53 PM

Dawn L: Yes Mother! the saints have been my spiritual direction

M

Guest7043 (guest): We really need to get the lives of the Saints to the young using the modern Media !!! 55 PM

Dawn L: I agree..their life is so rich and expressions so much deeper than modern ( just my opinion)

Oct 18 2015, 7:55 PM

Sister Susan Marie: And whenever we fail Lisa we jump into His Heart

Oct 18 2015, 7:55 PM

Sister Susan Marie: I agree Dawn

5 PM

Judy K: I must ask St. MM to intercede for me that I might be occupied with the Lord at every moment of the day. 7 PM

Lisa C: I love movies about Saints and even cartoons of the bible

Oct 18 2015, 7:57 PM

Guest7043 (guest): I Love the prison diary of St Perpetua ! I would love to see a movie of the incredible faith of this child of God !!!!

Oct 18 2015, 7:58 PM

Sister Susan Marie: Don’t know that one

:58 PM

Lisa C: There was one cartoon of Jesus ascending to heaven and I kept watching it over and over thinking it must have been so amazing for the apostles to see it , 7:59 PM

Judy K: The third question asks what else can be symbolized by the heart. Tenderness comes to mind, compassion, contrition (for us humans), gentleness, meekness and humility (Jesus, meek and humble of heart).

Oct 18 2015, 7:59 PM

Carol Ann: I think we under estimate the power of imagery when we think it’s not okay to pray with icons or other images

0 PM

Judy K: I think that we need images to help us to focus on the objects of our prayer.

Oct 18 2015, 8:01 PM

Judy K: Hi Alice! Welcome aboard!

Oct 18 2015, 8:01 PM

Dawn L: I think its ok and very good to use images

r Susan Marie: Welcome back!

Oct 18 2015, 8:02 PM

Sister Susan Marie: Images are very helpful to pray with and icons are really mystical

Oct 18 2015, 8:02 PM

Alice Lewis-Eckardt: Hello Guest 7043

Guest7043 (guest): St Francis of Assisi really demonstrated the Sacred Heart of Jesus soo powerfully in his life !!!

:04 PM

Alice Lewis-Eckardt: The Sacred Heart is the topic? Perfect!

Oct 18 2015, 8:04 PM

Dawn L: On The Cloistered Heart, she had a picture of Jesus the most beautiful I have ever seen. unable to copy, find source, so I keep it where I can see it. unusual that it is a mystery but beautiful

Judy K: The last question asks about our devotion to the Sacred Heart. With the Holy Eucharist, it is my primary devotion and has been since my youth. I had the enthronement of the Sacred Heart in my home in 1962 (I should say in my grandparents’ home–my mom and I lived with them). I renew consecration to the Sacred Heart every year on His Feast Day and at other times during the year. 8 PM

Judy K: I have a fairly large statue of the Sacred Heart in my living room (since 1962) and whenever I look at it, I am reminded of, and sometimes feel surrounded by, His love for me.

Oct 18 2015, 8:08 PM

Sister Susan Marie: We encourage the enthronemnet at our First Friday Masses

:09 PM

Dawn L: I have believed the Eucharist, Jesus, it is his heart. actual physical heart PM

Carol Ann: Judy, I have my father’s picture of the Divine Mercy image that is the same for me.

Oct 18 2015, 8:10 PM

Lisa C: In second grade Sr. MM gave us pictures of the Sacred Heart to color and frame and put in our homes, I still have mine

Oct 18 2015, 8:10 PM

Guest7043 (guest): I was able to show the movie on the life of St Rita at one of the Mental Health clinics that I work at it is a powerful film about St Rita’s life that helps many to approach and to forgive others even forgive the worst things ! That is what the Sacred Heart of our Lord Jesus Helps us to do !!!!

Oct 18 2015, 8:11 PM

Lisa C: I also have many pictures of the Sacred Heart all over my home

M

Alice Lewis-Eckardt: i have been searching for my prayer card with the sacred heart. it was beautiful and seems to be lost

Oct 18 2015, 8:12 PM

Sister Susan Marie: The Eucharistic Heart is another expression I have heard of

Lisa C: Mother, I just emailed you a pic of the second grade pic we colored at school

Oct 18 2015, 8:13 PM

Judy K: Lisa, I have a very beautiful picture of the Sacred Heart, one of the most beautiful I have seen. I will e-mail it to Mother Susan so that she can forward it to you.

Oct 18 2015, 8:13 PM

Lisa C: Thank you Judy

Oct 18 2015, 8:14 PM

Judy K: Perhaps Mother would forward it to Alice also.

Oct 18 2015, 8:14 PM

Sister Susan Marie: Thank you both. I think the Eucharist is the gift of the Sacred Heart to us

Oct 18 2015, 8:14 PM

Alice Lewis-Eckardt: i would greatly appreciate it!

Oct 18 2015, 8:15 PM

Lisa C: Mother, I love the pic at Georgetown where Jesus is right next to St. Margaret Mary

Oct 18 2015, 8:15 PM

Dawn L: Eucharistic miracles, a book and a doc. they had piece of the host examined and results said it was heart tissue.

Oct 18 2015, 8:15 PM

Alice Lewis-Eckardt: i read that too Dawn

16 PM

Carol Ann: Is that the sign given to the priest that did not believe, the Host that bleeds 17 PM

Judy K: I read about that miracle, Dawn. There are actually two of them, one in Europe and the other in South America. Both were examined and had the same results. It was tissue from the heart of a man, which showed signs of sever trauma, probably to the chest. I believe both had the same blood type too.

Oct 18 2015, 8:17 PM

Sister Susan Marie: When I taught 2nd grade I would choose phrases from the Litany of the Sacred heart for children to draw- and some did so profoundly

8:18 PM

Lisa C: Sr. MM drew it and we colored it

Oct 18 2015, 8:18 PM

Lisa C: We traced over the printing too

Oct 18 2015, 8:18 PM

Lisa C: Hi Sister

Dawn L: this is very good idea for children. thank you

Oct 18 2015, 8:20 PM

Dawn L: glad you are here

Oct 18 2015, 8:20 PM

Guest7043 (guest): Hi Sister Mary Roberta !

Oct 18 2015, 8:21 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: One of our priests talked about the Trinity (including Christ’s Sacred Heart) being within each of us, but I think it’s better to say we are IN them.

Oct 18 2015, 8:21 PM

Sister Susan Marie: Here’s anoother page for kids- to color St MM http://www.crusaders-for-christ.com/uploads/8/9/4/8/8948848/margaret_mary_.pdf

8:22 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: It’s relaxing and helps people focus, I think.

Oct 18 2015, 8:22 PM

Lisa C: I used to ask my Grandma to color in my coloring books, because she did it so neatly and I loved looking at it

Oct 18 2015, 8:22 PM

Judy K: Perhaps those who cannot paint can color and derive some satisfaction from that.

Oct 18 2015, 8:22 PM

Carol Ann: it’s amazing how many adult coloring books there are, though they seem to all be more sophisticated than dolls and ponies

Oct 18 2015, 8:23 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: True, Carol Ann! I would need the color-by-number ones, for sure!

,

Dawn L: I saved pages. TY…

Oct 18 2015, 8:23 PM

Carol Ann: haha, me too! though i do make excellent stick figues!

Oct 18 2015, 8:24 PM

Carol Ann: I mean figures, of course

Oct 18 2015, 8:24 PM

Sister Susan Marie: Great for grandkids- or some of us- even for recreation- who knows?

Carol Ann: Te creative spark is divine, and it beckons us

Oct 18 2015, 8:25 PM

Sister Susan Marie: This is so beautiful: Set up your abode in this loving Heart of Jesus and you will there find lasting peace and the strength both to fruition all the good desires He inspires in you, and to avoid every deliberate fault. Place in this Heart all of your sufferings and difficulties. Everything that comes from the Sacred Heart is sweet. He changes everything into love. – See more at:

Oct 18 2015, 8:25 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: It’s like all the fine needlework we saw in our Visitation museum in Moulin in France – making something creative and beautiful. Even a coloring book could be in that categor

26 PM

Carol Ann: I’m learning how to use my Grandmother’s knitting needles. The teacher says I have a unique way of adding or deleting stitches at random…

Oct 18 2015, 8:27 PM

Guest7043 (guest): I have a friend who was a business man his whole life when he retired he took a painting class ! He has not stopped painting since ! He absolutely Loves it and has made many beautiful paintings for The Lord !

27 PM

Carol Ann: I have a feeling we’d all like to be like that man!

Oct 18 2015, 8:28 PM

Judy K: I am also working on a formation talk for our Salesian Cooperators’ meeting in December. I will be talking about the Jubilee Year for Mercy. I have done the research, now I have to organize it and type it up.

Oct 18 2015, 8:28 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: Anything creative we do to give God glory is wonderful! Our current chaplain, an Oblate of St. Francis, turns out to be an artist, too.

Oct 18 2015, 8:28 PM

Guest7043 (guest): That’s Great Judy !

Oct 18 2015, 8:28 PM

Sister Susan Marie: To be creative for the Lord- I wish someone would make a movie of St Francis and St Jane and even St Margarett Mary

5, 8:28 PM

Lisa C: Mother that could be what you do for the 400 yrs

Oct 18 2015, 8:29 PM

Dawn L: Mother , I believe this is truth! I pray to trust more and more in Jesus. If he places desire or situation before me, I have felt him give me all I need to complete for him….amen

Oct 18 2015, 8:29 PM

Carol Ann: I don’t know much about the art of Catholic movie making but I will hunt around and see if someone is doing it on a large scale. Maybe they could help

Oct 18 2015, 8:29 PM

Judy K: Maybe you could write to St. Luke productions (the ones responsible for the film “Therese” in which Leonardo de Filippis played the role of St. Louis Martin.

Oct 18 2015, 8:29 PM

Sister Susan Marie: That would be very special as far as I know no movies exist on them

Carol Ann: Yes, if we do all we do after discerning His will, in the cloister of our hearts, He will be glorified 8:30 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: Our school Communications Dept. is making lots of videos to promote the school. We just need to enlist them in doing monastery film-making as well!

Oct 18 2015, 8:30 PM

Lisa C: Mother if a movie is too hard maybe a play and they could perform it at the Abbey in CT where they have a theater (Mother Dolores)

1 PM

Carol Ann: There you go! An excellent idea, and you will be training a generation of artist who will go against the grain of worldy entertainment

Oct 18 2015, 8:31 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: We have a good friend at Regina Laudis who had discerned first with us – Sr. Kateri Tekakwitha.

Oct 18 2015, 8:31 PM

Sister Susan Marie: How the Sacred Heart could be glorified by a touching and anointed film

Oct 18 2015, 8:31 PM

Judy K: Wow, we are really cooking tonight!

Oct 18 2015, 8:31 PM

Lisa C: A movie would be better ….the tailgating nuns present…

Sister Susan Marie: Yes now that Georgetown has the world’s attention!!

Oct 18 2015, 8:32 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: The Eucharistic miracle film I shared with you, Mother, was certainly well made and inspiring!

Oct 18 2015, 8:32 PM

Guest7043 (guest): Jesus is bringing up a whole generation of youth who will have the ability to us the media to Glorify God ! Let’s pray for them !!!

Oct 18 2015, 8:32 PM

Carol Ann: We are! I volunteer to help with the project, and there are many others in the Catholic Writers Guild who might help as well, if asked

:33 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: We just need some professional actors and we’re all set!

Oct 18 2015, 8:33 PM

Sister Susan Marie: What a project for a Catholic writer- maybe more on this- you know St Francis de Sales 400th anniversary of death is 2022- that’s enuf time to prepare

33 PM

Sister Susan Marie: A ha! Lisa- you are ahead of me- I was thinking of 2010 when you said that

Oct 18 2015, 8:33 PM

Lisa C: maybe EWTN could help figure out how to do it

Oct 18 2015, 8:34 PM

Carol Ann: Sr Susan, I am very serious about this too. I would love to help and can find others too

Oct 18 2015, 8:34 PM

Dawn L: there is a great DVD titled The Nun, she is Carmelite. Doc by Maud Nycander. I like it shows her discerning process, with her family, then leaving for cloister. Ends with visiting her 5 yrs later. Beauty! what young women need to watch!

Oct 18 2015, 8:34 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: Does anyone have any good friends at EWTN?

Oct 18 2015, 8:34 PM

Lisa C: Mother knows Father Mitch

Oct 18 2015, 8:34 PM

Sister Susan Marie: What would you need from us Carol to approach a writer at the Guild

Oct 18 2015, 8:34 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: Of course!

Judy K: Oh Mother, that is awesome!

Oct 18 2015, 8:36 PM

Oct 18 2015, 8:36 PM

Sister Susan Marie: Carol Anne, which figure first- St Margaret Mary or the other saints

Oct 18 2015, 8:36 PM

Sister Susan Marie: Room- I can check it out!! Smile-

Oct 18 2015, 8:36 PM

Judy K: Maybe we all could research possibilities and report back next week.

Oct 18 2015, 8:37 PM

Carol Ann: Hmm, St. Francis de Sales for sure and Jane Chantal and Margaret Mary too

Oct 18 2015, 8:37 PM

Guest7043 (guest): I would love to see a movie on St Patrick his whole story is written in the confessions of Saint Patrick ! Incredible story of Faith !!!!

Oct 18 2015, 8:37 PM

Sister Susan Marie: Yes let;s think, pray and see where the Lord leads with this

Carol Ann: I will pray too, that the Spirit guide our enthusiasm to tell the stories He wants told, in the order He needs them told

Oct 18 2015, 8:38 PM

Sister Susan Marie: Yes Carol- His will first- that is so right
