Guest3546 (guest): Not in monastery

Apr 24 2016, 7:29 PM

Dawn L: Hi Lisa and Carol ann

Apr 24 2016, 7:31 PM

Dawn L: I was trying to read msg, someone ill and not coming tonight

Apr 24 2016, 7:32 PM

Lisa C: I think it says Mother is not in the Monastery so she will not be at the chat

Apr 24 2016, 7:32 PM

Lisa C: Hi Guest

Apr 24 2016, 7:32 PM

Guest7845 (guest): Hi Lisa.

Apr 24 2016, 7:33 PM

Dawn L: I see, thank you for clarifying

Apr 24 2016, 7:33 PM

Dawn L: Hi guest

Apr 24 2016, 7:34 PM

Carol Ann: Hi Everyone!

Apr 24 2016, 7:34 PM

Guest7845 (guest): Oh hi Dawn. I hope they aren’t all ill.

Apr 24 2016, 7:35 PM

Dawn L: I think I misunderstood but I hope all is well.

Apr 24 2016, 7:35 PM

Dawn L: Guest, is this Jennifer?

Apr 24 2016, 7:36 PM

Dawn L: Hi Amy

Apr 24 2016, 7:36 PM

Guest7845 (guest): Oh no, sorry. Just me, the weekly guest.

pr 24 2016, 7:37 PM

Carol Ann: I hope the Sisters are all okay. Sr Mary Roberta usually comes about 5. Should we carry on until then?

Apr 24 2016, 7:38 PM

Lisa C: Shall we try to discuss Chapter XII

Apr 24 2016, 7:38 PM

Amy Cochran: hi

Apr 24 2016, 7:39 PM

Dawn L: I’m in for discussing.

Apr 24 2016, 7:39 PM

Lisa C: Was it XII?

Apr 24 2016, 7:39 PM

Dawn L: Ch 12 4

Apr 24 2016, 7:39 PM

Dawn L: Sin

Apr 24 2016, 7:40 PM

Carol Ann: Yes, how long ago did we first become aware of our own sin?

Apr 24 2016, 7:40 PM

Apr 24 2016, 7:41 PM

Amy Cochran: they say the age of reason is about seven

Apr 24 2016, 7:42 PM

Amy Cochran: when I think of the sins of a seven year old vs the sins of an adult, it’s sort of funny

Apr 24 2016, 7:42 PM

Lisa C: I think we can know the difference between what is right and wrong before that, but do we know that something that is wrong is a sin

Apr 24 2016, 7:42 PM

Dawn L: very early in life we can begin knowing

Apr 24 2016, 7:43 PM

Carol Ann: Yes, thereabouts. But while a chold can understand the literal commandments, I am not sure we can begin to understand the depths behind them until adulthood

Apr 24 2016, 7:43 PM

Lisa C: We know that something will disappoint our parents

Apr 24 2016, 7:43 PM

Dawn L: That is the specific question Lisa, good

Apr 24 2016, 7:43 PM

Amy Cochran: i was trying to remember the whole Freudian thing, like awareness of self…….i remember my three month old being fascinated by her hand, like, is that me?

Apr 24 2016, 7:44 PM

Carol Ann: Something can disappoint our parents and not be a sin

Apr 24 2016, 7:44 PM

Lisa C: Yes, I am talking about knowing right and wrong before knowing actual sin

Apr 24 2016, 7:44 PM

Lisa C: We have a sense of right and wrong before the commandments are taught to us

Apr 24 2016, 7:45 PM

Carol Ann: I think I was going to the place where a child can make a mistake and still not have done something wrong or sinned

Apr 24 2016, 7:45 PM

Lisa C: I think we have to know we are breaking a commandment or going against what God wants for us to actually sin

Apr 24 2016, 7:46 PM

Amy Cochran: i think that a child can be aware of a sin done toward him before he can comprehend “hurt” to another

Apr 24 2016, 7:46 PM

Lisa C: But we are born with original sin

Apr 24 2016, 7:46 PM

Lisa C: A little child can lie

Apr 24 2016, 7:46 PM

Amy Cochran: baptism takes care of that

Apr 24 2016, 7:46 PM

Lisa C: A child can break something and say he did not do it

Apr 24 2016, 7:47 PM

Dawn L: My g-dtr near 3 knows right from wrong. She now will make effort to make amends if she has hurt sister. Im very sure she does think of it as sin, nor know the word. Maybe it is learing the word that helps us to know it

Apr 24 2016, 7:47 PM

Lisa C: So is that a sin

Apr 24 2016, 7:47 PM

Amy Cochran: i think i would like to ask sister if a three year old can sin

Apr 24 2016, 7:48 PM

Lisa C: A child can do something wrong I do not know whether it is a sin

Apr 24 2016, 7:48 PM

Dawn L: Amy, I like the comparison to 3 mo old hand

Apr 24 2016, 7:48 PM

Carol Ann: I would too. Or if we are putting an adult concept on reinterpreting our childhood actions

Apr 24 2016, 7:48 PM

Lisa C: I know that we knew things were wrong before we knew what sin was

Apr 24 2016, 7:50 PM

Amy Cochran: isn’t a lot of knowledge of basic right and wrong a psychological/anthropological theme?

Apr 24 2016, 7:50 PM

Lisa C: It is part of a conscience

Apr 24 2016, 7:51 PM

Dawn L: And for some people, long in their life, they can know simething is wrong but not identify it as sin. That comes with or beginning conversion

Apr 24 2016, 7:51 PM

Lisa C: If we had no conscience we could not understand sin

Apr 24 2016, 7:51 PM

Carol Ann: Amy, that might depend on who you ask, and sometimes what culture

Apr 24 2016, 7:51 PM

Amy Cochran: i am lost. but i remember infants smiling and my mother saying they were talking to the angels, but then about three months they started noticing themselves, like looking in a mirror and being fascinated. we were discussing the soul and this idea and it’s kind of intriguing

Apr 24 2016, 7:52 PM

Ruth (guest): Interesting conversation. I’ve just read as much as the site would let me.

Apr 24 2016, 7:52 PM

Dawn L: Hi Ruth

Apr 24 2016, 7:52 PM

Carol Ann: Hi Ruth

Apr 24 2016, 7:52 PM

Amy Cochran: it’s as if the soul is becoming aware that it is in a body, but i think it’s bad theology

Apr 24 2016, 7:52 PM

Ruth (guest): Hi everyone.

Apr 24 2016, 7:53 PM

Dawn L: I would sense sometimes infants having or seeing that which we can not

Apr 24 2016, 7:53 PM

Amy Cochran: I’m off track

Apr 24 2016, 7:54 PM

Amy Cochran: i asked about the existence of your soul before conception……..i was told we were in the mind of God but that particular soul exists at the point of conception,

Apr 24 2016, 7:54 PM

Lisa C: The Catechism says what is necessary for sin

Apr 24 2016, 7:55 PM

Lisa C: Yes, Amy, the Catechism also says that God creates your soul at that time.

Apr 24 2016, 7:56 PM

Lisa C: Relativism is a problem

Apr 24 2016, 7:57 PM

Lisa C: It is a problem for the whole world

Apr 24 2016, 7:57 PM

Ruth (guest): And I think you are both on the mark about that Amy, and Lisa

Apr 24 2016, 7:57 PM

Amy Cochran: i agree, Ruth, we are in an anything goes society

Apr 24 2016, 7:58 PM

Ruth (guest): And freedom of conscience is less and less protected under the law lately.

Apr 24 2016, 7:59 PM

Lisa C: Maybe they do have a clue, but do not care that much

Apr 24 2016, 7:59 PM

Dawn L: So according to Catechism difinition, it can be long into ones life before you are viewing your actions as sin, thinking of st augustine, or the woman caught in adultry

Apr 24 2016, 7:59 PM

Ruth (guest): The New York State legislature has a bill trying to make “mercy killing” legal.

Apr 24 2016, 8:00 PM

Amy Cochran: that’s interesting, Dawn

Apr 24 2016, 8:00 PM

Lisa C: No, St. Augustine knew he was sinning, but put off converting

Apr 24 2016, 8:00 PM

Carol Ann: That is an interesting question. Sin is still sin, whether we know it to be so or not. But if a child’-s conscience is not formed correctly, then what?

Apr 24 2016, 8:00 PM

Ruth (guest): Hospitals that don’t want to offer insurance covering abortions to their employees are subject to huge fines.

Apr 24 2016, 8:01 PM

Dawn L: To see what you do or have done as sin, is a grace and great mercy fromvGod

Apr 24 2016, 8:01 PM

Amy Cochran: i agree, Carol. How can God judge someone who never learned?

Apr 24 2016, 8:01 PM

Guest7845 (guest): Very good question.

Apr 24 2016, 8:02 PM

Lisa C: God knows what we know and do not know. He is the only one who can really judge.

Apr 24 2016, 8:02 PM

Amy Cochran: i think you are right. the mind of God is unfathomable and we just have to trust

Apr 24 2016, 8:03 PM

Ruth (guest): Yet for it to be “mortal” sin, there has to be awareness that it is a serious matter and full consent of the will.

Apr 24 2016, 8:03 PM

Dawn L: Yes Lisa!

Apr 24 2016, 8:03 PM

Guest7845 (guest): I don’t think it would be sin in God’s eyes, if a person truly didn’t know.

Apr 24 2016, 8:03 PM

Carol Ann: So we must separate ourselves from the errors of ourcage, the way that our ancestors had to unlearn their own culture’s sins

Apr 24 2016, 8:03 PM

Lisa C: I think children understand a lot more than we think

Apr 24 2016, 8:03 PM

Lisa C: Children know what is just and unjust

Apr 24 2016, 8:03 PM

Guest7845 (guest): This is all so DEEP!

Apr 24 2016, 8:04 PM

Amy Cochran: st. Faustina said in her diary that the soul is approached three times and asked to accept God’s mercy, so i suppose even if you didn’t know about certain sins, ie not going to church on sunday, hopefully at the point of death, you will recognize your Redeemer

Apr 24 2016, 8:04 PM

Amy Cochran: i think that is very soothing for those of us who have children who don’t practice or don’t believe anymore..

Apr 24 2016, 8:04 PM

Guest7845 (guest): Thank God for His Mercy!!!

Apr 24 2016, 8:05 PM

Ruth (guest): I hope we do not discourage you Guest 7845. Most times Sr. Susan Marie is here sort of moderating.

Apr 24 2016, 8:05 PM

Amy Cochran: it doesn’t mean the soul will not have to go to purgatory, but eternity is a long time to be in hell

Apr 24 2016, 8:05 PM

Guest7845 (guest): No, not at all. You guys are right on the mark!

Apr 24 2016, 8:06 PM

Lisa C: Jesus came to save us, He will not fail in spite of us

Apr 24 2016, 8:06 PM

Amy Cochran: His Mercy triumphs over justice

Apr 24 2016, 8:06 PM

Dawn L: ” Never think that you have done enough to atone for your past sins”

Apr 24 2016, 8:07 PM

Guest7845 (guest): Isn’t that an everyday thing?

Apr 24 2016, 8:08 PM

Amy Cochran: accepting it and offering it up, not grumbling, but knowing it is for own good

Apr 24 2016, 8:08 PM

Ruth (guest): Yes, I was nearly 40 before I realized that even in the hard things I suffered as a small child, God was present and the fact that I came to chose Him was because of the mercy he showed me throughout my life, mercy that I may have thought was hard work on my part, but in fact both the desire to work hard at questions that mattered — like is God real? does He hear and answer prayers? — was ALL GIFT.

Apr 24 2016, 8:08 PM

Dawn L: This reflection for me very conficting,to remember I am a sinner

Apr 24 2016, 8:09 PM

Amy Cochran: who’s not a sinner?

Apr 24 2016, 8:09 PM

Dawn L: Amen Ruth

Apr 24 2016, 8:09 PM

Lisa C: The reflection makes me realize that we must be humble. If we really examine our consciences we sin all over the place even when we are trying not to do so.

Apr 24 2016, 8:10 PM

Amy Cochran: thought, word and deed

Apr 24 2016, 8:10 PM

Carol Ann: The way it is written, it is impossible not to remember our sins . What is harder is to have the right attitude about it

Apr 24 2016, 8:10 PM

Ruth (guest): I heard a powerful witness today from a woman I knew a just a little before and her husband.

Apr 24 2016, 8:10 PM

Dawn L: Yes Lisa, helpful note

Apr 24 2016, 8:11 PM

Ruth (guest): And those in purgatory need our prayers.

Apr 24 2016, 8:12 PM

Guest7845 (guest): Thank God for all of my daily hardships – I offer them straight up. Sometimes for those I don’t even know.

Apr 24 2016, 8:12 PM

Ruth (guest): Benedict XVI says to pray to the saints and to the Holy Spirit FIND, FREE,and SAVE the those we’ve loved.

Apr 24 2016, 8:13 PM

Dawn L: Im glad you mentioned this Amy.helpful to leave request for this with ones family,

Apr 24 2016, 8:15 PM

Guest7845 (guest): Thanks, Ruth! Isn’t there a prayer to St. Gertrude, that when said, releases 1000 souls from Purgatory?

Apr 24 2016, 8:16 PM

Carol Ann: And St Margaret Mary’s prayers as well

Apr 24 2016, 8:16 PM

Guest7845 (guest): I try to say it in the mornings before Mass when I pray my Morning prayer. I actually lost the prayer card – hope I find it.

Apr 24 2016, 8:17 PM

Lisa C: Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.

Apr 24 2016, 8:17 PM

Guest7845 (guest): Oh, God bless you Lisa!!! That’s it.

Apr 24 2016, 8:18 PM

Ruth (guest): I have a friend in Florida who has asked me to earn a plenary indulgence for her at that time — somehow assuming that I’ll still be alive when she passes away.

Apr 24 2016, 8:18 PM

Lisa C: Ruth, I think you can pray it ahead of time. God transcends time.

Apr 24 2016, 8:19 PM

Ruth (guest): Good prayer. I guess that is why they say it can release a thousand souls from purgatory.

Apr 24 2016, 8:19 PM

Dawn L: Thank you Lisa

Apr 24 2016, 8:19 PM

Guest7845 (guest): That is really a lot of souls.

Apr 24 2016, 8:20 PM

Guest7845 (guest): Powerful prayer and Saint.

Apr 24 2016, 8:23 PM

Ruth (guest): In this year of Mercy there are special churches designated as Pilgrimage Churches at which it is possible to earn a plenary indulgence at each visit. And on All Souls Day similar prayers in a cemetary can release a soul from Purgatory.

Apr 24 2016, 8:24 PM

Ruth (guest): On a recent cold, windy All Souls Day I made multiple trips to cemeteries to pray for souls in purgatory.

Apr 24 2016, 8:25 PM

Dawn L: Having confidence in ourselves seems to be the error one can make. Need to give it all up…my thought off topic

Apr 24 2016, 8:26 PM

Lisa C: Dawn, maybe we can have ultimate confidence that God will do what we cannot

Apr 24 2016, 8:26 PM

Lisa C: Dawn, I think it is not off topic at all. My reaction to the reading is that we have to be humble.

Apr 24 2016, 8:26 PM

Guest7845 (guest): Thank you, Ruth.

Apr 24 2016, 8:28 PM

Dawn L: SELF, and trusting He is in us.

Apr 24 2016, 8:29 PM

Ruth (guest): And humility means being face to face with the truth, seeing ourselves and others as we really are, and believing that God is at work in us and in this messed up world.

Apr 24 2016, 8:30 PM

Guest7845 (guest): I truly need His work in me. Maybe more than anyone!

Apr 24 2016, 8:30 PM

Lisa C: Hebrews 4:16

Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Apr 24 2016, 8:30 PM

Ruth (guest): Humility does not mean dissing ourselves. I have to remind myself of that often: God loves you Ruth; don’t disrespect what God made and loves.

Apr 24 2016, 8:31 PM

Ruth (guest): That helps put an end to negative thinking.

Apr 24 2016, 8:32 PM

Ruth (guest): “Automatic” negative thoughts can hamper grace.

Apr 24 2016, 8:33 PM

Carol Ann: Humility vs humiliation. Truth vs shame.

Apr 24 2016, 8:33 PM

Lisa C: 2Cor 2-6

Apr 24 2016, 8:33 PM

Guest7845 (guest): I seem to be as Moses was. Sometimes I’m a horrible speaker. I would like to defend the Faith much better. I try my best.

Apr 24 2016, 8:34 PM

Lisa C: wrnog quote

Apr 24 2016, 8:34 PM

Lisa C: 2 Cor 3 2-6

Apr 24 2016, 8:35 PM

Lisa C: 4 Such confidence we have through Christ before God. 5 Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God. 6 He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

Apr 24 2016, 8:36 PM

Lisa C: God in us is what matters

Apr 24 2016, 8:36 PM

Ruth (guest): And Karen, the woman who witnessed so powerfully to a special grace she received in Trent (!) while praying for her mother, pointed out that sometimes the pain and weight we bare without knowing why is actually someone else’s, usually an ancestor’s, we like Simon on the Way of the Cross, we are pressed into carrying someone else’s crosses.

Apr 24 2016, 8:36 PM

Ruth (guest): Lisa that passage is perfect,

Apr 24 2016, 8:37 PM

Ruth (guest): We are not alone on this journey, not even when we feel alone.

Apr 24 2016, 8:37 PM

Dawn L: This scripture guides us!

Ruth (guest): That is why it is so important to familiarize ourselves with it, Dawn.

Apr 24 2016, 8:37 PM

Ruth (guest): The Word of God!

pr 24 2016, 8:38 PM

Ruth (guest): How can we love whom we do not know?

Apr 24 2016, 8:38 PM

Guest7845 (guest): The Word – His love letter to us.

Ruth (guest): Yes, and recently I heard someone describe even just holding a Rosary, as being like holding the hand of Mary.

Apr 24 2016, 8:40 PM

Dawn L: So we can recall it in instant. Ive been thinkingvoften lately I want to write scripture put on walls.

Apr 24 2016, 8:41 PM

Ruth (guest): Around 1976 a friend encouraged me to commit scripture to memory.

Apr 24 2016, 8:42 PM

Dawn L: For last week I have felt strong to wear my rosary, I have been.

Apr 24 2016, 8:42 PM

Lisa C: Wearing a scapular is also very powerful

Apr 24 2016, 8:43 PM

Guest7845 (guest): I had a Sacred Heart badge, but lost it too.

Apr 24 2016, 8:44 PM

Dawn L: I have a scapular but have not been invested in it, and not sure that is the correct word

Apr 24 2016, 8:44 PM

Lisa C: My Sacred Heart Badge seems not to have come back with me from Kentucky. I think someone else needed it more than I did. I got a new one.

Apr 24 2016, 8:44 PM

Ruth (guest): I hope whoever found or finds your lost sacramentals is influenced by them.

Apr 24 2016, 8:44 PM

Guest7845 (guest): That’s a beautiful thought.

Apr 24 2016, 8:45 PM

Dawn L: Yes it is

Apr 24 2016, 8:46 PM

Dawn L: Ruth, Im encouraged to memorize more scripture! Going to

Apr 24 2016, 8:47 PM

Guest7845 (guest): I also collect St. Michael things. He is one of my favorites. The devil flees when I’m around with all my St. Michael things!

Apr 24 2016, 8:47 PM

Lisa C: I do not memorize well, but I prefer to remember where things are in the Bible and look them up when I need them.

Apr 24 2016, 8:49 PM

Ruth (guest): It is worth every moment we spend with it. And when I started writing down the verses I wanted to memorize I was in Germany, so I had parallel pages; if a verse first struck me in German I’d write down the German, and which translation; if it first struck me in English, I’d write it on the English side, and later fill in the opposite page.

Apr 24 2016, 8:49 PM

Dawn L: Yes, Pope Francis says carry pocket Gospel , read it often in the day

Apr 24 2016, 8:51 PM

Ruth (guest): Lisa, that is a very special gift, to know Book, Chapter and Verse. Many of our Protestant brothers and sisters know that. I try to link the scripture text to the source, but do not always succeed.

Apr 24 2016, 8:52 PM

Ruth (guest): Yes, sometimes I would have multiple translations open at once. Even if you speak only English, there are various English translations, some may “speak” to you more easily than others. Or give a slightly different “twist.”

Apr 24 2016, 8:53 PM

Lisa C: It is getting late, have to get ready for work

Apr 24 2016, 8:53 PM

Dawn L: Has anyone here saved chat notes for Mother?

Apr 24 2016, 8:53 PM

Lisa C: Yes, I am saving

Apr 24 2016, 8:53 PM

Guest7845 (guest): I feel so bad that our other Sister left. I meant to say hello.

Apr 24 2016, 8:54 PM

Lisa C: ?

Apr 24 2016, 8:54 PM

Ruth (guest): How do we save chat notes?

Apr 24 2016, 8:54 PM

Dawn L: Thank you. Yes it is late. Have good shift Lisa.

Apr 24 2016, 8:54 PM

Lisa C: Ruth, I am copying them into a word file and will email them to Mother

Apr 24 2016, 8:54 PM

Ruth (guest): Oh, I think I just did it. the whole download.

Apr 24 2016, 8:55 PM

Guest7845 (guest): Hope all goes well Lisa. God bless.

Apr 24 2016, 8:55 PM

Lisa C: God be praised!

Apr 24 2016, 8:55 PM

Ruth (guest): Good night. God bless you. Lisa, thanks for thinking about saving this for sister.

Apr 24 2016, 8:55 PM

Guest7845 (guest): God bless you all.

Apr 24 2016, 8:56 PM

Guest7845 (guest): Maybe I’ll get a name set up one day.

Apr 24 2016, 8:56 PM

Carol Ann: Good night everyine. Have a blessed week!

Apr 24 2016, 8:56 PM

Dawn L: “Thank God for giving us these good desires”….
