Ruth (guest): God — except for Jesus — does not literally have a face. And yet looking into the eyes of someone who is very, very loving, does seem to approximate that “beatific vision” — someone who knows you from the inside and loves you.

Amy Cochran: true, and people describe heaven as seeing your relatives, friends, etc. or is it like the best of times in adoration when one feels the unity with Christ/

Ruth (guest): And you love and admire that person. Yes, Amy, I think that Jesus gave us the Eucharist to give us a small foretaste of heaven as well as a means of being nourished on the journey to heaven.

Amy Cochran: Didn’t Thomas Aquinas write on this and then one day shut his book and said that’s enough, and then briefly after died. some say he had a view of the beatific vision

Ruth (guest): “All that I have written is as straw” St. Th Aquinas wrote. And the apostles, some of them had a “vision” of Jesus TRANSFIGURED. They wanted to build extra tents and stay there!

Amy Cochran: at the resurrection of the dead will we recognize our loved ones? I always wondered that, as I only knew my parents as older, not as young people. and some people I could never imagine young

Ruth (guest): There is one place in S Scripture where it says, “And God laughed.” I can’t remember the circumstances . . . what kind of laughter and why, but I think that there must be a lot of good, holy laughter in heaven . . . in spite of all the evil things that are happening here on earth. :18 PM

Amy Cochran: I know dawn, I don’t know what tradition says, but moses and Elijah appeared with Jesus at the transfiguration. how did they know who they were?

Ruth (guest): When my father was dying he “dreamt” that he saw a little stream and followed it to it’s source: two of his infant grandsons who had died at birth, peeing in the sand. That is how he knew he was about to “see” them soon. But that is one man’s psychological image of heaven. I suppose we will “see” our relatives if that is what is important to our happiness.
