Sun chat Aug 28
Why do you think words are such an important aspect of God’s revelation to mankind?
Consider and discuss this verse: “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16).
How do you incorporate God’s Word into your daily life?

Ruth (guest): Hello Sr. Susan Marie and all my Living Jesus Chat friends. Just wanted to let you know that you’ve been in my prayers, I continue to find your ideas and caring, prayerful support helpful, and I plan to be back next week, but today I will probably not be able to join the chat, or will only sign in toward the end. We have a special meeting at St. John in the Wilderness (formerly Church now Oratory.

Aug 28 2016, 10:18 AM

Ruth (guest): Also, I wanted to alert you to a world-class event, sponsored by the Diocese of Ogdensburg to take place at the Olympic Stadium in Lake Placid. Bishop Robert Barron will be there, and the biographer of Pope John Paul II, and many other world-class speakers. There’ll be time for prayer and a Mass, and something for all ages. A Youth Rally in the nearby Lake Placid High School, child care for the younger kids, and much more. They are expecting some 6,000 to 7,000 people to attend, from all over. I’s FREE!

Aug 28 2016, 10:29 AM

Ruth (guest): PARTICIPANTS MUST REGISTER IN ADVANCE, THOUGH. AND I JUST FOUND OUT THAT THE LAST DAY TO REGISTER IS SEPTEMBER 9TH. THE EVENT IS ON SEPT 25TH. HERE’S WHERE YOU CAN GET FURTHER INFORMATION AND REGISTER: www.inspirecalledtolove.org

Ruth (guest): I know many of you are not rich and a hotel/motel room may be hard to come by, therefore, I am inviting you to come the day before to my house and to stay a couple of days afterward. Since my injuries (seven years ago, a fall through an open, hidden trap door into a cellar, with three concussions in a row and many contusions along the way) I have been unable to care for my home properly — have even become a hoarder, I am embarrassed to say. I have been working hard for the last six weeks or so to try to

Aug 28 2016, 10:49 AM

Ruth (guest): create order. One small room with a captain’s bed and an inflatable mattress is nearly “habitable” but I will keep working at it; if you can cope with the clutter you are welcome! I’d like to make the living space WELCOMING as it once was, but that’ll take a lot more time and probably a good deal of help, which I do not have at present, and cannot really afford. (For many years I gave away about 80% to 90% of my professional services; and I’ve been robbed several times, once left with just $2.73 in my

Ruth (guest): only savings account. Once left with only a few coins in a yogurt cup — coins I’d found while going for walks. My Pastor at that time helped out with a $600 “gift” which I made sure became only a loan. One time a near stranger lent me $20. Life goes on. I own two small tents and six acres of property, plus sleeping bags, sheets and blankets/quilts galore. There is plenty of meadow turning into forest. We’ll find a way to “accommodate” anyone who needs a space to lie their heads. If everyone I’ve

Ruth (guest): Now to the questions: (1) Why do you think words are an important aspect of God’s revelation to mankind? Words are creative. God “spoke” the universe into existence. Words create bonds between people. Human Beings typically get to know one another — and at least initially enter into relationships with one another — through words, through sharing their stories. We, in the Chat group, for instance, basically know one another ONLY through words, typed words; we do not even hear the sound of one another’

Aug 28 2016, 11:58 AM

Ruth (guest): ‘s voices, and yet we have come to have a sort of “communion” with one another. We have shared IDEAS as well. Over the course of weeks and months of “chatting” with one another about important and sometimes less important matters we have come to KNOW something about one another; we have come to CARE about one another; that is, to LOVE one another. And we have SERVED one another through PRAYING for one another and I will attempt to SERVE you by offering what I can, here at my house, so that it’ll be more

Aug 28 2016, 12:11 PM

Ruth (guest): feasible for you to attend the INSPIRE Called to Love event. (THANK YOU for all who prayed for me especially in relation to my surgery and recovery. BTW Friday I was discharged from PT — have to continue the exercises on my own.) GOD wants us to be in COMMUNION with him: to KNOW him, to LOVE him, to SERVE him — which starts with recognizing our RELATIONSHIP to him, by giving THANKS and PRAISE and coming to TRUST him. One way he makes that possible for us is by simply telling us about Himself through WORD

Aug 28 2016, 7:27 PM

VisitationSiste: Hi Judy

9 PM

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) As I was coming into my room to sign on, that old hymn came to my mind: Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Isn’t that what God’s Word is–it shows where we are now (lamp to my feet) and lights up the way ahead( and a light unto my path). 30 PM

VisitationSiste: Tta sounds very inspired!

Aug 28 2016, 7:30 PM

Dawn L: beautif

6, 7:30 PM

Dawn L: beautiful, Judy, yes His Word is this!

Aug 28 2016, 7:31 PM

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) We have Jesus Who is the Word of God Who shows us how to live. But because we can miss His actions, He also teaches by His words to give a fuller explanation of His plan and will for our lives. He wants to make everything very clear to us.

16, 7:32 PM

VisitationSiste: Indeed words are used because HE IS THE WORD2016, 7:33 PM

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) And His flesh becomes the means of our salvation. He offers that flesh for our sins and opens Heaven for us. Thank you, Jesus!

Aug 28 2016, 7:34 PM

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) Welcome Guest 6145!

Aug 28 2016, 7:34 PM

VisitationSiste: In the Magnificat for tomorrow St John the Baptist Beheaded, a commentary also says about living when things are not clear but dark, yet knowing GGod’s presence in the darkness

Aug 28 2016, 7:35 PM

Guest6145 (guest): Hi, thank you

, 7:35 PM

Dawn L: it was during a dark night…I sat in my room and began, for first time, reading his Word. He does reveal himself.. PM

Guest6145 (guest): Thank you Sister

Aug 28 2016, 7:37 PM

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) The Word makes Himself known in so many ways–in the Eucharist, in His teachings in Scripture, in Hymns that we sing or hear, in the kind words of another, in the voice of the priest giving us absolution from our sins.

36 PM

VisitationSiste: The Lamp helps us see in the darkness- the Light of His Word

Aug 28 2016, 7:36 PM

VisitationSiste: welcome Guest

Guest6145 (guest): Thank you Sister

Aug 28 2016, 7:37 PM

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) The Word makes Himself known in so many ways–in the Eucharist, in His teachings in Scripture, in Hymns that we sing or hear, in the kind words of another, in the voice of the priest giving us absolution from our sins.

7:38 PM

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) In the homilies at Mass, and teachings at prayer meetings and on Catholic TV. 16, 7:38 PM

Guest6145 (guest): True; He is found not only in Scripture! :39 PM

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) He speaks in different ways to different people. He speaks to us in the beauty and magnificence of nature too. M

VisitationSiste: And in generous hearts He is so alive

Aug 28 2016, 7:40 PM

Dawn L: It was through reading scripture that I began to see, so then not only in scripture but through it…

Aug 28 2016, 7:41 PM

Guest6145 (guest): Sure, Dawn!

016, 7:41 PM

Dawn L: St Edith Stein says as many people as there are the many ways God calls us. not a direct quote

Aug 28 2016, 7:41 PM

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) In terms of nature, I find that the ocean speaks to me most of all. When I see its vastness I think of the vastness of His presence in the world. And the poser of the ocean calls to mind the absolute power of God.

Aug 28 2016, 7:41 PM

Jennifer Koo: Hi, all

M

VisitationSiste: What about this quote: All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16).

Aug 28 2016, 7:44 PM

VisitationSiste: I love the image of breathing out by God

Dawn L: I wondered at the time this was written, what scripture Tim would have? The Psalms I think..

, 7:47 PM

VisitationSiste: To know the Scriptures well is to have Christ living within 6, 7:49 PM

Dawn L: that would have been St Paul..

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) Timothy’s verse really does tell us what Scriture does. First it teaches; “Blessed are the poor in spirit, their’s is the Kingdom of Heaven.” “You have it said ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy, But I tell you Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.’ For reproof: to the Pharisees, “You are like whitened sepulchres.” For Correction: When you are invited to a wedding banquet, do not recline at table in the place of honor.”

Aug 28 2016, 7:51 PM

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) And training for righteousness: “You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart, your whole soul, your whole mind, and with all your strength…You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

Aug 28 2016, 7:51 PM

Dawn L: not important sister,I wondered what scripture ( St Paul) would have been reading at this time

2 PM

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) Needless to say, these are not the only verses for each purpose; they are the ones that came to my mind. Amazing that the verse for correction came from today’s Gospel.

Aug 28 2016, 7:53 PM

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) Thank you, Sister!

55 PM

VisitationSiste: Correction is not the easist thing to give people but using God’s Word- it is harder for them not to listen 6, 7:55 PM

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) I am wondering if each of you has a particular verse that speaks strongly to you. Mine is:”I have been crucified with Christ and the life I live is not my own, but Christ lives in me.”

Aug 28 2016, 7:55 PM

VisitationSiste: You just gave me an idea!

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) Y-e-e-e-e-s-s-s?

Aug 28 2016, 7:56 PM

VisitationSiste: One of mine is from Jeremiah: You know at heart that I am with you

Aug 28 2016, 7:57 PM

VisitationSiste: When I have to correct a Sister, I should find the Gospel passage to use that approaches the situation I need to address

, 7:57 PM

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) Oh that is a good idea!!!

Aug 28 2016, 7:57 PM

Dawn L: I first memorized St John 14:26-27

16, 7:59 PM

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) Ah, the promise of the Holy Spirit! Where would we be without Him!

0 PM

Dawn L: it let me know the Holy Spirit would teach all things, bring to rememberance all he has said, and peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you. I do not give as the world gives. Let your hearts not be troubled and do not be afraid 8:00 PM

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) I think that my other favorite is “Come to Me all who labor and are heavily burdened and I will give you rest.’ 6, 8:01 PM

VisitationSiste: Let me explain briefly about Jeremiah verse- I was so exhausted I could not be with the Lord as I would Have liked- but I was able to say to God at herat in my heart I am with you- something like that

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) And those words to the Good Thief, “This day you shall be with Me in Paradise.” What hope these words present for all of us! 6, 8:03 PM

Dawn L: it is through his word that he speaks to us! even to take a verse and meditate on it, he further speaks :05 PM

Dawn L: Jeremiah speaks to our hearts, so we can rest assuredly in him, when we are weary or afraid

Aug 28 2016, 8:05 PM

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) As I think about it now, the Word of God is truly a banquet for the soul. It provides nourishment that we so greatly need. It is strength providing. Filled with wisdom. Reminds us of how great is God’s love for us. Moves us to seek holiness. What a feast the Lord has provided for us!!!

, 8:06 PM

VisitationSiste: Reading a book of the Bible slowly gives grace and insight

Aug 28 2016, 8:07 PM

VisitationSiste: Every day we read the Scriptures for next day’s Liturgy

Aug 28 2016, 8:07 PM

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) I try to read part of Scripture every day. I am currently working my way through Galatians for meditation, and Romans for reading. I am also writing meditations on what I read from time to time.

0 PM

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) Hi Sister Mary Roberta!

Aug 28 2016, 8:10 PM

VisitationSiste: Sister you are back!!!

Aug 28 2016, 8:10 PM

Dawn L: Hi Sr Mary Roberta!

Aug 28 2016, 8:10 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: Hello! Had a great retreat in our house in Mobile, AL!

Aug 28 2016, 8:11 PM

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) Yes, we missed you last week.

Aug 28 2016, 8:11 PM

VisitationSiste: Fantastic

PM

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) Glad that you had a great retreat. I can almost see the glow of your halo from here.

Aug 28 2016, 8:12 PM

Dawn L:

Aug 28 2016, 8:12 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: Like our Guest, I prefer reading and pondering the Mass readings after Mass. Then I have the priest’s homily to reflect on, too.

Mary Roberta Viano: Since I grew up Protestant, I had the Bible at the center – had to do a lot of memorizing of verses in Sunday School. 13 PM

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) Much to my chagrin, no matter how hard I try to concentrate on the homily, I never seem to remember it. 6, 8:14 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: I like SFdS’s suggestion that we read the saints’ lives, too – and his favorite Spiritual Combat by Lorenzo Scupoli PM

VisitationSiste: Did you read that in novitiate?

Aug 28 2016, 8:15 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: and I was told to always be reading a good life of Our Lord, like Sheen’s.

Aug 28 2016, 8:16 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: no, but I always read it before Office started

Aug 28 2016, 8:16 PM

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) Did you read Romano Guardini’s “The Lord?”

Aug 28 2016, 8:16 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: yes, Judy, that’s another one to ready, for sure

PM

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) I have to check Amazon and see if I can pick up a copy of it.

Aug 28 2016, 8:17 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: and St. Augustine’s Confessions are a must-read, as well

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) I can read only a little bit of that at a time.

Aug 28 2016, 8:18 PM

Dawn L: he mentions saints and books Im unaware, but thankful now to know!

Aug 28 2016, 8:18 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: I like reading and meditating on just a few pages of each at a time – like sipping a fine wine.

Aug 28 2016, 8:18 PM

Dawn L: perhaps this is a good way to read any of the saints…sipping

Aug 28 2016, 8:19 PM

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) With Scripture, I like to meditate on a verse or two at a time.

, 8:19 PM

Dawn L: is this called Lecto Divina 16, 8:20 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: I read a marvelous book during my retreat: Anima Christi by Mother Mary Francis, PCC (a Poor Clare nun in NM, who died not long ago). It reflected phrase by phrase on that classic prayer.

Aug 28 2016, 8:20 PM

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) Lectio Divina is reading a portion of scripture, meditating on it, opening up to contemplation, and then praying about it.

PM

Mary Roberta Viano: The main thing is that our reading lead to prayer. 1 PM

Aug 28 2016, 8:22 PM

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) Are we supposed to form a resolution too?

Aug 28 2016, 8:22 PM

VisitationSiste: I find I do better on retreat with lectio than at other times, even tho I do it daily I am more relaxed on retreat

Aug 28 2016, 8:22 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: Because the saints lay down their lives in one way or another for Christ, we can imitate them, just like St. Paul asked his followers to imitate himself.

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) Lately I find that before I begin to read Scripture, I say the prayer to the Holy Spirit and ask that He open the ears of my mind and my heart that I might absorb and comprehend what I am reading. 25 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: That’s a good idea, Judy! I know I need to be prepped to be able to understand better what I’ve read.

Dawn L: I have not done so, but feeling a call to paint and write scripture to it, or the other way around perhaps. to pray with

Aug 28 2016, 8:28 PM

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) I like that idea, Dawn. Wish I could paint.

Aug 28 2016, 8:29 PM

VisitationSiste: I can’t paint either but sometimes I sketch a thought

Aug 28 2016, 8:29 PM

VisitationSiste: badly done of course

Aug 28 2016, 8:29 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: me, too. Since I like to sing, I find music leads to prayer.

Aug 28 2016, 8:29 PM

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) I can’t draw a straight line with a ruler. The ruler usually wiggles.

Aug 28 2016, 8:29 PM

VisitationSiste: Ha ha

Aug 28 2016, 8:30 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: I’m like you, Judy.

Aug 28 2016, 8:30 PM

VisitationSiste: I like wordless thoughtless prayer too- that simple gaze on God- my soul to Him

016, 8:30 PM

Guest2731 (guest): (Judy) That is the best prayer to me. 16, 8:30 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: That’s true, Mother – and somehow feeling that I’m resting in Him. :31 PM

Dawn L: I am not a painter by any means but I have alot of watercolors.. I think the water does it!. I usually put drop or two of holy water in..

Aug 28 2016, 8:31 PM

VisitationSiste: I wonder what happened to Lisa and Carol tonight- let’s pray for them and each other and also my 47 yr old cousin Laureen with stiomach cancer

Aug 28 2016, 8:32 PM

VisitationSiste: Ah Holy water- good i
