Questions to Ponder:

Why do you think that God chose such a way as becoming food in order to give Himself to us?
How can we be better prepared to receive the Eucharist in purity and with mindfulness?
What do you make of St. Francis’s advice about the frequency of receiving communion? One would usually assume that receiving daily is a no-brainer. Why, then, does he recommend daily communion with such caution?

7:34 PM

Dawn L: I have thought about this, re read readings, and I don’t know why. except it was part of a beautiful design…and he loves us 35 PM

VisitationSiste: So intimate of God!

Sep 18 2016, 7:35 PM

Sep 18 2016, 7:36 PM

Jennifer Koo: Hi, Mother

Sep 18 2016, 7:36 PM

Lisa C: He is also consumed for us totally on the cross. He gave everything for us. Since it is for us we consume Him.

Sep 18 2016, 7:39 PM

VisitationSiste: If we could “feel” what Jesus was doing as He became one with us- we would probably die

Guest6671 (guest): Have been able to attend daily Mass ! What a gift to be able to receive Jesus daily !!

6, 7:40 PM

Dawn L: from pure joy …

Sep 18 2016, 7:40 PM

Lisa C: Mother, did he become one with us in a point in time or was He always one with us?

2016, 7:40 PM

VisitationSiste: Do you mean the Incarnation? , 7:41 PM

Jennifer Koo: I am thinking of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Human beings basic necessities – food 1 PM

Lisa C: No, I mean He knew us always, even before we were born

Sep 18 2016, 7:41 PM

Lisa C: He loved us then

Sep 18 2016, 7:41 PM

VisitationSiste: Oh yes of course

1 PM

Lisa C: Is there a time point where He becomes one? 2 PM

VisitationSiste: Don’t know!

Sep 18 2016, 7:42 PM

Lisa C: God is all though everything all the time

Sep 18 2016, 7:42 PM

VisitationSiste: Receiving Him is a point in time

Sep 18 2016, 7:42 PM

Lisa C: Maybe when we receive Him we are just recognizing Him

Sep 18 2016, 7:43 PM

Guest6671 (guest): In John Chapter 17 Jesus asked the Father for us to be one with Him !

VisitationSiste: We are God’s children

Sep 18 2016, 7:43 PM

Jennifer Koo: Receiving Jusus and he became part of us.

Sep 18 2016, 7:44 PM

Lisa C: Bishop Baron says that we spend most of our life closed in in the small soul. When we “convert” we become part of the large soul that is part of everything with God.

Sep 18 2016, 7:44 PM

Guest6671 (guest): Amen !!

6, 7:45 PM

Jennifer Koo: We became what we eat and become one body. We should see Jesus in everyone, though at times we failed

Sep 18 2016, 7:45 PM

Dawn L: beautiful insight or teachin

7:46 PM

VisitationSiste: How does receiving Communion enhance this then

Sep 18 2016, 7:46 PM

Lisa C: Sacraments bring grace

2016, 7:47 PM

Lisa C: Grace helps us see things correctly 016, 7:47 PM

Lisa C: Grace helps us behave in a Holy way PM

Jennifer Koo: We are one when we are being baptized. To receive part take

Sep 18 2016, 7:48 PM

Jennifer Koo: Hi, Ruth

Sep 18 2016, 7:48 PM

Lisa C: <—student of Sr. Margaret Mary

Sep 18 2016, 7:48 PM

Lisa C: So happy to have had here

Sep 18 2016, 7:49 PM

Lisa C: her

16, 7:49 PM

Lisa C: Grace also helps us share God…as Sr. MM did 49 PM

Dawn L: that is a blessing to have been brought up around the sisters!

Guest6671 (guest): We are able to eat His body and drink His Blood .We choose to partake in this extroidinary offer of Love that God has offered us !!!! 16, 7:51 PM

Dawn L: and taught by them… how wonderful so many have writings we can read now

Sep 18 2016, 7:51 PM

Jennifer Koo: And we should become what we eat and be ready to be consumed by others

Sep 18 2016, 7:51 PM

VisitationSiste: Preparing to receive Him is also a part of how we love Him

PM

Jennifer Koo: To be united with Him

Sep 18 2016, 7:51 PM

Ruth (guest): Hellos Sr. Susan, Dawn, Jennifer, Lisa, and Guest?

Sep 18 2016, 7:51 PM

Dawn L: preparing, one way is confession

Sep 18 2016, 7:52 PM

Guest6671 (guest): Amen Sister! Finally went on o confession yesterday ! Soo helpful

Sep 18 2016, 7:52 PM

Jennifer Koo: Confession brings us closer to God

Sep 18 2016, 7:53 PM

Dawn L: ?…but more do you mean interiorly, praying. today I felt so joyful to be going to Mass. so I prepared by thanking him over and over

, 7:54 PM

Guest6671 (guest): Mass is such a gift from God !

Sep 18 2016, 7:54 PM

VisitationSiste: Beautiful Dawn And we had 2 masses today and the feeling I can’t even explain it- timeless- both were one

M

VisitationSiste: I think what happens is for some people Mass or reception of the Eucharist becomes routine- one can prepare by mediationg on Scripture and stay awake and mindful 016, 7:57 PM

Dawn L: I wonder if this is something maybe StF had in mind, about frequent communion? 016, 7:58 PM

VisitationSiste: In his time daily Communion was rare

Sep 18 2016, 7:58 PM

Jennifer Koo: Bibrical walk through the Mass by Edward Sri might be good reminder

PM

Guest6671 (guest): Well true Sister ! Taking the time to pray and read Scripture brings us into the presence of God and remov s all th distrac 9 PM

Lisa C: Mother, was it rare that they could go to Mass or they went without receiving Communion?

Sep 18 2016, 7:59 PM

VisitationSiste: They went to Mass every day

Sep 18 2016, 7:59 PM

Ruth (guest): Just, earlier this week, an article by a Church historian in which penetants received from the confessor a “ticket” to be allowed to go to Easter Communion.

Sep 18 2016, 7:59 PM

Jennifer Koo: Daily Communion is rare for places that have no priests

Sep 18 2016, 7:59 PM

VisitationSiste: But only received once a week or sometimes less

02 PM

Ruth (guest): Yes, and it is likely to become like that around here — too few priests; they are dying off and not very many vocations. I pray for vocations every day. Jennifer, maybe Singapore will be sending us missionaries?

Sep 18 2016, 8:02 PM

Dawn L: a hundred Masses !

Sep 18 2016, 8:02 PM

VisitationSiste: The sense of sin from Jansenism aslo prevented many from frequenting Holy Communion, or adopting a policy of going to Confession before each Communion

Sep 18 2016, 8:02 PM

Ruth (guest): Guest6671; is that Judy or Brian?

8:05 PM

VisitationSiste: In a monastery the entire atmosphere helps to focus and keep one’s soul in line but community life accounts for many struggles so preparing for Communion means looking over ones conscience 4 PM

Amy Cochran: yes, sometimes up here in Vermont, you have to really travel to ind a mass

Sep 18 2016, 8:05 PM

VisitationSiste: In a monastery the entire atmosphere helps to focus and keep one’s soul in line but community life accounts for many struggles so preparing for Communion means looking over ones conscience

Sep 18 2016, 8:05 PM

Lisa C: In Manhattan there are churches every few blocks, but some are starting to close.

Sep 18 2016, 8:06 PM

Jennifer Koo: How sad

Sep 18 2016, 8:06 PM

VisitationSiste: Daily Communion is very strenthening

, Guest6671 (guest): Soo many Priests in Africa and I have seen God use them to build up the Church here in Buffalo !

Sep 18 2016, 8:06 PM

Jennifer Koo: Daily Communion is a necessity

Sep 18 2016, 8:07 PM

Ruth (guest): The main reason Bishop Baron is coming here is to encourage religious vocations and especially vocations to the priesthood. But the assembly is for everyone, all ages; without a CULTURE which supports the value of the FAITH — families willing to “offer” their children to the Church — it is not easy for young adults to even consider ordination an option.

Sep 18 2016, 8:07 PM

Amy Cochran: yes, daily communion is a necessity. when you make it a priority in your life, your life changes

Sep 18 2016, 8:07 PM

Jennifer Koo: I felt exhausted and sorrowful when being deprived from communion in Maine

PM

Dawn L: most of the priests in this area, a large area, are coming from Philippines. our newest priest at our parish is joyful, older, and has offered mass a top a jeep, during war time

Sep 18 2016, 8:09 PM

Jennifer Koo: Yes, and I pray for all who are being deprived from communion

PM

Dawn L: I looked into spiritual communion as not easy to get to daily Mass. Pope John Paul II wrote about it

Sep 18 2016, 8:11 PM

Ruth (guest): For well over fifty five years I went to daily Communion. I am grateful. But NOW four of our local churches have closed; and the remaining two have no Saturday Mass and no Monday masses. It is not even possible to do the “First Saturday” devotions without driving 120 miles! And even then they are offered only thanks to the generosity of the retired priest, Fr. Jack Downs, with is Chaplain for Our Lady of the Adirondacks House of Prayer. He is over 80 and has a heart condition.

Sep 18 2016, 8:12 PM

Jennifer Koo: We really have to pray for our Catholic church

Sep 18 2016, 8:12 PM

Dawn L: thank God for our dedicated priests!

6, 8:12 PM

Guest6671 (guest): At new High Schools popping up around country vocations are encouraged ! Chesterton Academy ! They have daily Mass before school begins !

Sep 18 2016, 8:12 PM

Ruth (guest): who is

PM

Mary Roberta Viano: Hello! Our sisters keep prolonging recreation…

Sep 18 2016, 8:13 PM

Jennifer Koo: Hi, Sister Mary Roberts

Sep 18 2016, 8:13 PM

Ruth (guest): Chesterton Academy, is that in Buffalo? Brian?

Sep 18 2016, 8:14 PM

Dawn L: so many different situations for so many people, not the same for everyone, but God will provide and give the increase

Sep 18 2016, 8:14 PM

Dawn L: if his will….

Sep 18 2016, 8:14 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: I did find it puzzling that SFdS didn’t seem to be encouraging daily Communion in this week’s reading?

:14 PM

Ruth (guest): God gives, but we do have to have people willing to receive his “calling.” 15 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: I guess part of it is that we don’t receive the Eucharist just out of habit.

Sep 18 2016, 8:16 PM

Guest6671 (guest): Yes that’s where Mitch went just started 2years ago and is growing ! Reminds me of pre-vocational High School ! Other cities around country are opening new ChestertoHigh Schools

Sep 18 2016, 8:16 PM

Ruth (guest): Yes Daily Communion was not usual back then. I’m impressed that in spite of that there were many, many Saints.

:17 PM

Ruth (guest): So I figure we still have a chance . . . Prayer is a necessity and the Mass is the best prayer, but not the only form.

Sep 18 2016, 8:18 PM

Jennifer Koo: If masses are available, we should treasure.

18 PM

Ruth (guest): I was surprised that the Benedictines in Erie, PA have Mass only a few days a week. Not much devotion to the Eucharist. But regular with the Word of God — in Liturgy of the Hours. ONly they “adapt” and alter the official texts. 19 PM

VisitationSiste: I think it was Pope Pius X who brought back frequent Communion

Sep 18 2016, 8:19 PM

Jennifer Koo: I went to Italy, beautiful huge churches with so few to attend masses and mostly aging

Sep 18 2016, 8:20 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: I also wondered about SFdS’s advising his directees that if your family is against your receiving daily Communion, if “they are most particularly unreasonable and perverse…your Director might advise you to yield” to them and not receive the Eucharist – very strange! Shouldn’t we stand up for our beliefs or is keeping the peace more important?

Sep 18 2016, 8:20 PM

Dawn L: thankful for having a priest come to where we live on Sundays…I know this is such a gift!

8:21 PM

VisitationSiste: I think there is a part of Church history here we may not understand or be fsamiliar with

Sep 18 2016, 8:21 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: I remember visiting a Carmelite community where the Mass was only celebrated twice a week so that it didn’t risk becoming just a habit.

Sep 18 2016, 8:22 PM

Guest6671 (guest): Ruth my friend Will thanked you for offer to stay in Lake Placid ! They cannot come they just returned from long trip to eastern New York ! He asked that if you have any links to event he would like to hear them . He would be a great Deacon! Pray for Him all!

Sep 18 2016, 8:22 PM

Ruth (guest): I met a Cistercian this week, from Austria — actually born and raised in Lake Placid, NY, a convert to Catholicism — through attending Sr. Agnes School. Actually I’ve met him a number of times before, when he was “home” on vacation. His mother now comes to church and helps out, but she has not converted yet. The community this priest belongs to has a strong devotion to the Eucharist.

Sep 18 2016, 8:22 PM

Lisa C: I do not think going frequently makes it become a habit, it makes it more precious and important.

, 8:23 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: As a convert to Roman Catholicism, I was in total awe of the Eucharist – Our Lord present – Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity!

Sep 18 2016, 8:23 PM

VisitationSiste: It increases our LOVE

Sep 18 2016, 8:23 PM

Ruth (guest): In fact, he teaches in a seminary there; in 2007 it became directly under the Pope.

PM

Mary Roberta Viano: I AM in total awe of it!

Sep 18 2016, 8:23 PM

VisitationSiste: Being in deep communication with Our Lord every day

8:24 PM

Lisa C: Demonstrating how much we need Him

Sep 18 2016, 8:24 PM

Jennifer Koo: Since we all love Him

Sep 18 2016, 8:24 PM

Ruth (guest): Yes Brian, now that I have your e-mail address, I’ll send you any links that might interest Will. And I will certainly pray for him.

Sep 18 2016, 8:24 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: Yes, hopefully our minds, hearts, and souls can expand to be in ever deeper communication with Our Lord every day we receive Him!

Sep 18 2016, 8:24 PM

Guest6671 (guest): ThHank You Jesus !!!

Sep 18 2016, 8:25 PM

Jennifer Koo: Daily communion should be what we are yearning for

Sep 18 2016, 8:25 PM

Guest6671 (guest): Thank You Jesus !!!

Sep 18 2016, 8:25 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: so true, Jennifer!

8:25 PM

Ruth (guest): Yes, Sr. Mary Robert, I think the Eucharist is what draws many converts to the Church. M

Mary Roberta Viano: absolutely, Ruth. Scott Hahn talks about that in his talks and books.

Sep 18 2016, 8:26 PM

Jennifer Koo: Is beautiful, it make a lot of different between protestant and Catholic

Sep 18 2016, 8:26 PM

Ruth (guest): However, many of them also LEAVE after usually just a few years if that long. We really need to work hard at creating a WELCOMING atmosphere. It is part of Evangelization. And Evangelization is needed even for those who attend regularly.

Sep 18 2016, 8:27 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: That’s all we want: to come as close as we possibly can in our life-times to Christ, and the Eucharist is the best place to do that!

Sep 18 2016, 8:27 PM

Jennifer Koo: Awareness of the love of our Lord will win all hearts

:28 PM

Dawn L: Amen

Sep 18 2016, 8:28 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: and Ruth is right that we have to share that love openly with everyone we meet

Sep 18 2016, 8:29 PM

Jennifer Koo: All of us can help to make Jesus known and love

16, 8:30 PM

Guest6671 (guest): I will never forget on my return to the Church going to early Mass and a lady in front of me received communion with such Love and Reverance for Our Lord Jesus ! I realized Jesus was truly present in the Eucharist !!!!!

Sep 18 2016, 8:30 PM

Ruth (guest): I find it interesting that our Love for Jesus in the Eucharist sustains us a draws others to the Catholic Faith, but it was just that hard saying — so strange to Jews of Jesus time — that one has to EAT his

:30 PM

Ruth (guest): BODY and Drink his BLOOD that caused many of his followers to leave Him.

Sep 18 2016, 8:30 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: Since SFdS doesn’t seem enthusiastic about daily Communion, I was wondering how often he thought his directees should go to Confession – just once a year?

Sep 18 2016, 8:31 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: but Our Lord understood we need Him as food to sustain us in our life’s journey

M

VisitationSiste: There is a book on St Francis de Sales and the Eucharist

Sep 18 2016, 8:32 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: I ask your prayers on Tuesday 9/20 as I undergo my first cataract surgery. You will all be in my prayers. Good night!

Sep 18 2016, 8:33 PM

VisitationSiste: Oh yes I will pray

:33 PM

Guest6671 (guest): It was and still is today the defining choice of commitment to God !

Sep 18 2016, 8:33 PM

Jennifer Koo: Jesus our Lord lives forever, to part take and we are in Him and He is in us, isn’t that a great blessing!

Sep 18 2016, 8:34 PM

Guest6671 (guest): Amen !!!

Sep 18 2016, 8:34 PM

Dawn L: amen

Sep 18 2016, 8:35 PM
