Sister Susan Marie: How in your life can you practice a greater degree of gentleness towards your friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, etc.?
How would you explain the difference between holy and just anger versus unholy and unhealthy anger?
Why do you think that we tend more easily towards anger instead of gentleness? Is it because of our fallen nature?
Why is it so easy to act, as St. Francis says, as “angels abroad and devils at home”?

Guest1819 (guest): (Judy) I guess the situation calls for that quality we are discussing tonight, gentleness. St. FdeS asks how we can practice more gentleness

Nov 13 2016, 7:32 PM

Guest1819 (guest): (Judy) Hi Brian!

16, 7:32 PM

Carol Ann: Most of my office had people cancel appointments because they were so distraught. Some csn’t sleep without aidsPM

Carol Ann: Undoubtedly true

Nov 13 2016, 7:34 PM

Carol Ann: Hi Brian!

Nov 13 2016, 7:34 PM

Guest1819 (guest): (Judy) To practice gentleness, we must first be aware that gentleness is needed in a particular situation. Approach the person with a sense of respect and an obvious concern. Then be gentle in words and actions.

Nov 13 2016, 7:34 PM

Lisa C: There is one reality plus misconceptions

Nov 13 2016, 7:34 PM

Guest6665 (guest): Emotions have been very very high everywhere since election !

9 PM

Guest6665 (guest): I had a great opportunity to listen to and share our Faith with a very well educated Hindu man . We shared for over an hour . He loves both Mother Theresa and Pope John Paul ll ! He could be another St Augustine someday !!!! Praise God !!

Nov 13 2016, 7:39 PM

Dawn (guest): that is truth…truth is truth

7:42 PM

Dawn (guest): I thought the topic tonight fits so well into what is happening now3 PM

Guest1819 (guest): (Judy) And in the present situation I fear that many, if not most, would not be even slightly open to our position.

Nov 13 2016, 7:43 PM

VisitationSiste: Yes the gentle approach to all circumstances rather than violence Dawn

Nov 13 2016, 7:43 PM

Guest6665 (guest): Soo true Judy ! We need to really listen ! It is good to know how others feel and can be education to us if we avoid prideful reaction !

VisitationSiste: Is it unholy, unhealthy anger people are displaying or the just anger

Nov 13 2016, 7:45 PM

Lisa C: Unholy and unhealthy to riot

Nov 13 2016, 7:45 PM

Carol Ann: If we deny what they are feeling we have placed ourselves above them. How then can we minister?

16, 7:45 PM

Lisa C: Unholy to beat people in the streets for voting for Trump6, 7:46 PM

Carol Ann: There is some just anger there too. People have cause to worry and the right and duty to speak out. 6 PM

Guest6665 (guest): An unexpected loss is very very difficult on everyone we must be compassionate !

Nov 13 2016, 7:46 PM

Lisa C: I can see how people are upset with his treatment of women, but I cannot see riots

6, 7:46 PM

Guest1819 (guest): (Judy) There may be elements of both present. Their anger against things that Trump may have said of a racist nature is certainly justified. But didn’t he apologize?

Nov 13 2016, 7:46 PM

VisitationSiste: Fear moves into anger

Guest6665 (guest): Soo true Sister!

016, 7:47 PM

Lisa C: When Obama won twice no one rioted and he supports murder of pre born babies16, 7:48 PM

Guest1819 (guest): (Judy) Riots are surely motivated by “unholy anger.” Perhaps there needs to be a gentle way of helping the people to channel their anger into productive activities, 7:48 PM

Carol Ann: Judy, I think you are on to something there

Nov 13 2016, 7:49 PM

VisitationSiste: Mostly people seem to protect their own key interest or interests and are less likely to look at the whole picture

7:50 PM

Carol Ann: What can we do to get the ball rolling? , 7:50 PM

Guest1819 (guest): (Judy) While the liberals are into rights, they continue to reject the rights of the unborn. They are inconsistent. 016, 7:50 PM

VisitationSiste: Writing a balanced article that has wide circulation

VisitationSiste: On a spiritual level, fasting and prayer

Guest6665 (guest): Heard a great interview a few weeks ago . A person from Baton Rouge said whole community had been fighting with each other . Then big storm came flooded everybody .Everybody started loving and caring for each other . This election has been a storm for our country . It’s time for us to start loving and caring for each other ! 2016, 7:51 PM

Carol Ann: Yes Brian, there is nothing like a disaster to remind us of our common humanity

VisitationSiste: I think in any situation we find ourselves we have to lead with gentleness but we are not invulnerable to anger either but we can always apologize

Nov 13 2016, 7:53 PM

Nov 13 2016, 7:54 PM

VisitationSiste: Simplicity, honesty and humility are the virtues we need to work for

, 7:54 PM

VisitationSiste: and love can disarm people, true and unselfish love

Nov 13 2016, 7:54 PM

Lisa C: Atheists with an agenda

5 PM

VisitationSiste: Today’s Gospel shows we will be persecuted

Nov 13 2016, 7:55 PM

Guest1819 (guest): (Judy) I also think that all Americans should call for action that will make this country great again and restore the rights granted by the Constitution.

Nov 13 2016, 7:55 PM

Dawn (guest): exactly Lisa, and as was mentioned last week also in history we can come to understand more clearly what is happening now. I think this is why that film is so viewed…and I have yet to see it all! will look on youtube

Nov 13 2016, 7:55 PM

Carol Ann: Sister, I have always desired this virtue of gentleness, but what concrete steps can I take to get there?

Nov 13 2016, 7:56 PM

Lisa C: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vny6OXXBSfM&spfreload=10

Nov 13 2016, 7:56 PM

Lisa C: There are 6 parts

56 PM

Guest6665 (guest): We all have opportunity to shine Bright for our Lord Jesus Christ in the middle of this darkness ! Great opportunity to win souls for Christ ! Keep Shining !

Nov 13 2016, 7:57 PM

Dawn (guest): thank you for posting link

Nov 13 2016, 7:57 PM

Lisa C: Blessed Mother can protect us if we pray

Nov 13 2016, 7:57 PM

VisitationSiste: Each time you are angry, ask for the spark of gentleness to temper the anger

, 7:57 PM

Lisa C: Blessed Mother can protect us if we pray

Lisa C: When I was angry with my daughter I would always stop and pray before I talked to her.

Nov 13 2016, 7:58 PM

VisitationSiste: all virtues are gifts and we need to be open to receive them Also we need to work at it St Francis de Sales had a temper but he became known for gentleness He worked very hard

Carol Ann: I think that is a prayer Jesus will always answer…thank you ! What more can be done?

Nov 13 2016, 7:59 PM

Lisa C: Most VA Nuns were amazingly gentle. It was hard when we left, because the world was not like that.

PM

VisitationSiste: Confession of those moments of anger – grace comes with that

Nov 13 2016, 7:59 PM

VisitationSiste: all is grace

Guest1819 (guest): (Judy) Carol Ann, I think that the first step is to create an ocean of calm and serenity within you. Retreat into that ocean and let it wash over you and cleanse you of any anger or frustrations that are trapping you. Gentleness cannot live with anger but can be born of serenity. And that passage from Scripture, “Do to others what you would have them do to you” is a good maxim for gentleness. We all want to be treated gently, so we must treat others gently also.

Nov 13 2016, 8:00 PM

Lisa C: Anger is ok as long as we control it.

Nov 13 2016, 8:00 PM

Dawn (guest): encouraging, Brian. and true

Nov 13 2016, 8:01 PM

VisitationSiste: Beautiful!

PM

Carol Ann: Judy, that is amazing

Nov 13 2016, 8:02 PM

Lisa C: Anger can spur a cause that is righteous.

6, 8:03 PM

Dawn (guest): Jesus was angry , rightous anger, when he went into the temple of merchants in His Fathers house..

Nov 13 2016, 8:03 PM

Lisa C: It can get complacent people to act to right an injustice.

Nov 13 2016, 8:03 PM

Dawn (guest): that is beautiful reflection Judy

Nov 13 2016, 8:04 PM

Lisa C: With gentleness hopefully

04 PM

Guest1819 (guest): (Judy) Holy anger is an anger truly justified by the situation. It must be tempered by restraint in its expression. In other words, self control must be exercised at all times Yelling and screaming do not help. Injustice can provoke a holy anger which must be tempered by self control The media may be used to publicize the injustice and to ask for assistance in overcoming the injustice using legal means.

8:07 PM

Guest1819 (guest): (Judy) Injustice can also spawn an unholy anger which results in a reaction of violence, the kind of demonstrations that provoke things like looting. I don’t have any answers for this, but it is what is happening right now in the US>

Nov 13 2016, 8:08 PM

Lisa C: They will calm down

9 PM

Amy Cochran: I find the rioting so bizarre. I was talking to people in China today and they are puzzled at what they are seeing in the news

Nov 13 2016, 8:10 PM

Lisa C: I think what is happening is that young people with no jobs keep choosing causes to get angry about. When the economy improves and they actually get jobs they will become productive.

11 PM

Carol Ann: I met a couple from China in my work, now living in the US. They are worried and uncertsin.

Amy Cochran: yes, they are befuddled, but so am I

Nov 13 2016, 8:13 PM

Guest1819 (guest): (Judy) While I am not up on all the news, I have a feeling that the negative reaction may be coming from immigrants who are fearful of what may happen to them with a Trump presidency. And what happen to their families. Mr Trump will have to find a way to handle the immigrant situation that will not provoke further anger. that is going to be really tough!!

Nov 13 2016, 8:13 PM

Amy Cochran: I think it’s a society without God as the focus, looking for something they can wrap their emotions around.

Nov 13 2016, 8:14 PM

Carol Ann: I listened to the wife (the husband was sick and could not get up) and told a story of a time when I was a minority. It was then that she felt I had heard and understood her

VisitationSiste: Again, fear, personal intersts etc leads to anger

Nov 13 2016, 8:16 PM

Guest1819 (guest): (Judy) Understanding may well be the key to solving many problems. We all need to understand the worries of the immigrants while helping them to understand that they need to seek this country in a manner that is legal. Many others do wait until their “turn” comes up, and all should do likewise.

Nov 13 2016, 8:16 PM

Dawn (guest): but I keep returning to things Jesus says…be not afraid! we WILL have trouble in the world and he gives us his peace but not as the world gives. he seems to say always, no matter what is going on around us, to keep our eyes on Him. Love him, trust. I just don’t see how the world can offer any remedy to what is going on…

Nov 13 2016, 8:17 PM

VisitationSiste: Gentleness in approach could allay those fears and help all to work to a truthful and peaceful resolution

Nov 13 2016, 8:17 PM

Amy Cochran: you all must admit that this election was the strangest ever, a lot of back stabbing, vitriolic comments, sensationalistic media coverage. what happene to the age of statesmen?

Nov 13 2016, 8:18 PM

VisitationSiste: yes to all the above- we are in strange times- the veneer has worn off.

Nov 13 2016, 8:18 PM

VisitationSiste: Again read today’s Gospel

Nov 13 2016, 8:18 PM

Lisa C: We are chosen to pray for everyone.

13 2016, 8:18 PM

Lisa C: We are blessed

Nov 13 2016, 8:19 PM

Lisa C: We have peace in us, because of it

Nov 13 2016, 8:19 PM

Guest3960 (guest): Sorry I got bumped off by an update ! Brian

, 8:20 PM

VisitationSiste: Wrap ourselves around God and help others do the same

Guest3960 (guest): The Holy Spirit is always waiting for us to ask Him for help to be gentle and kind in these difficult times !

Nov 13 2016, 8:21 PM

Dawn (guest): our prayers can be the greatest help now, yes it is a blessing to be here, now.

Nov 13 2016, 8:22 PM

Guest1819 (guest): (Judy) Yes, we need to help this country turn back to placing God at the center of our lives. Disobeying the laws of God leads to an unraveling of the threads that keep us together. Murder, adultery, greed, put people against each other. We need to keep together, to be the family of God, since it is the One God Who is the Father of every human being.

Nov 13 2016, 8:22 PM

Lisa C: I think people want to be good, but they have been separated from having God in their lives so they are doing all these random crazy things.

8:25 PM

Guest1819 (guest): (Judy) The last question about being “angels abroad and devils at home” may be because we know that we will not be rejected by our families unless the behavior becomes disruptive of the life of the family. In that case some “drastic” measures may be required.

Nov 13 2016, 8:25 PM

Lisa C: Laws have not been enforced for years and people have lost discipline. Politicians were lying. The IRS was used as a weapon against conservatives. Everything was upside down.

Nov 13 2016, 8:25 PM

Lisa C: The Justice Dept was politicized and used one-sidedly.

Nov 13 2016, 8:26 PM

Dawn (guest): and the media’s misconceptions spew out to unaware’s…

Nov 13 2016, 8:26 PM

Lisa C: The military is asked to fight wars with no budget. Soldiers are being deployed over and over with no help for their emotional well being.

Nov 13 2016, 8:27 PM

Guest3960 (guest): Please pray for Kairos Ladies from Albion Correctional they completed four day retreat in prison this afternoon ! Praise God !!!

Nov 13 2016, 8:27 PM

Guest1819 (guest): (Judy) And so we come back to the need of restoring the observance of the Ten Commandments to bring back the discipline that has disappeared from our nation. It all comes down to bringing God back to this country!

Dawn (guest): God is working in many hearts right now!

9 PM

VisitationSiste: May God be all in all

Nov 13 2016, 8:29 PM

Amy Cochran: We must remember that God is in control. He knows what He’s about. be not afraid

Nov 13 2016, 8:29 PM

Carol Ann: Oops, discourage

Nov 13 2016, 8:29 PM

Lisa C: Freedom of Religion will be safe again with the new Supreme Court

Nov 13 2016, 8:29 PM

Guest3960 (guest): Will March in March for Life one week after inauguration !

Nov 13 2016, 8:30 PM

VisitationSiste: Stay with Jesus! See you next week, God willing!

Nov 13 2016, 8:30 PM

Guest1819 (guest): (Judy) Again, let us pray earnestly for our President Elect and all those with whom he surrounds himself that they will be open to the inspiration of God in their lives and in their work.

Nov 13 2016, 8:30 PM

Carol Ann: God Bless you Sr!

Nov 13 2016, 8:31 PM

Amy Cochran: Amen to that Guest

Nov 13 2016, 8:31 PM

Amy Cochran: Good night

Nov 13 2016, 8:31 PM

Guest3960 (guest): Jesus will guide us through every storm ! Remember he is always reminding us to have Faith in God !

Nov 13 2016, 8:32 PM

Dawn (guest): Amen

Nov 13 2016, 8:32 PM

Guest1819 (guest): (Judy) Let us abandon ourselves into the hands of the Lord Who loves all of us far more than we can ever imagine. He will be with us all the way. Trust in Him alone! Good night all!

Nov 13 2016, 8:33 PM

Dawn (guest): Goodnight everyone..! Jesus I trust in you!

Nov 13 2016, 8:33 PM

Guest3960 (guest): Amen Judy ! God Love You All ! Many prayers for you all ! Brian
