In this age of the New Evangelization, how do we encounter people where they are at and follow this advice from St. Francis: “Avoid the society of persons who are wanting in purity, especially if they are bold, as indeed impure people always are”?
What is one of the small ways that impurity leaks into your life? How can you better be on guard against it?
If our salvation is in Jesus Christ, why this focus on needing to obtain purity?

VisitationSiste: Do you agree with St Francis on this Avoid the society of persons who are wanting in purity, especially if they are bold,

Lisa C: Yes, I agree with St. Francis. That is why Catholic school is important

7:32 PM

Dawn (guest): I wish you could expand on this some, the bold. 016, 7:33 PM

VisitationSiste: Hi Alice. Bold in their ways of pushing their own agenda? :34 PM

VisitationSiste: He states that impure people are bold

Dec 18 2016, 7:35 PM

Guest6012 (guest): (Judy) We encounter people where they are at in work situations. Some are in line with our beliefs about purity. Others are flippant, sometimes obscene, loose in behavior. We can choose those with whom we want to associate, preferably those who ae closer to our ideals. I think that bold means not having any qualms about exhibiting immoral behaviors.

5 PM

Lisa C: It is bold to go against God.

Dec 18 2016, 7:35 PM

Lisa C: It is crazy

Dec 18 2016, 7:36 PM

Guest6012 (guest): (Judy) Hello Alice! And 6012 (is that you Brian?).

Dec 18 2016, 7:36 PM

Guest6012 (guest): Hi Ruth!

Dec 18 2016, 7:36 PM

VisitationSiste: Hi Ruth. Here’s a question; a Sr here has worked with lay women for 7 years who are interested in spirituality but on the stree t they still dress whin a way Sr considers immodest, Can you help us out with how they may be thinking

Dec 18 2016, 7:36 PM

Dawn (guest): These are helpful explantions!

Dec 18 2016, 7:36 PM

Ruth (guest): Welcome Alice!

6 PM

Lisa C: They are not thinking

Dec 18 2016, 7:37 PM

Alice Lewis-Eckardt: Hello all

Dec 18 2016, 7:37 PM

Dawn (guest): I think they are still looking to the world to give them what it never can

Dec 18 2016, 7:38 PM

Guest6012 (guest): She might have a general discussion about modesty, not casting aspersions on anyone, but just presenting principles of modesty and giving encouragement to them.

7:39 PM

Lisa C: There are people now who think they should be able to dress however they want, because people around them should control themselves. People are saying it is a girl’s fault if they are attacked if they are dressed immodestly. Girls these days are saying they should be able to dress any way they want and not be blamed for things.

Dec 18 2016, 7:39 PM

Guest6012 (guest): She might also include pictures of women who are dressed modestly and who still look attractive.

Dec 18 2016, 7:39 PM

Lisa C: It is a strange new way of acting.

Dec 18 2016, 7:39 PM

Dawn (guest): Hi Ruth! Perhaps modesty is a natural occurance in early conversion

PM

VisitationSiste: To me purity is a gift but one God is eager to give

Dec 18 2016, 7:44 PM

Ruth (guest): That is a good idea, Judy.

Dec 18 2016, 7:44 PM

Ruth (guest): Hi Brian. Maybe you can tell us, from your point of view.

Dec 18 2016, 7:44 PM

Alice Lewis-Eckardt: Ruth, respectfully, I think modesty is about everywhere you are. A two piece bathing suit can not be modest it’s like wearing your bra and underwear in public.

Dec 18 2016, 7:44 PM

Guest6012 (guest): (Judy) I think that it is also something after which we should strive. It needs to be put into practice in our daily lives.

Dec 18 2016, 7:44 PM

Dawn (guest): When esp younger women are dressing immodest, it is to attract something they do not have, but as St Augustine says, are restless…

Dec 18 2016, 7:45 PM

Ruth (guest): The best way to find out what they are thinking is to ASK them. Gently, of course.

Dec 18 2016, 7:45 PM

Lisa C: I think if you bring it up, it will upset them.

PM

Dawn (guest): Its a great help if young girls or women have role models

Dec 18 2016, 7:46 PM

Lisa C: I think the more they pray the more they will receive purity.

46 PM

VisitationSiste: Yes the Rosary and the Blessed Sacrament

Dec 18 2016, 7:46 PM

Guest6012 (guest): (Judy) Maybe it would be a good idea if Sister invited some women whom she knows who do dress modestly to serve as examples to the others.

Dec 18 2016, 7:47 PM

Dawn (guest): Hi Brian! There are more women starting modest clothing stores , its encouraging!

Dec 18 2016, 7:47 PM

Alice Lewis-Eckardt: There are modest clothing catalogues and online

Dec 18 2016, 7:48 PM

Ruth (guest): I remember being a bit embarassed to see the mistress of novices in a Benedictine Monestary wearing a blouse that showed her cleavage.

49 PM

VisitationSiste: What other ways are we impure- I think lying is one- telling hallf truths

Dec 18 2016, 7:49 PM

Lisa C: Yes, all sin is impure

Dec 18 2016, 7:49 PM

Dawn (guest): Ano

Dec 18 2016, 7:49 PM

Guest46 (guest): Soo true Sister !

Dec 18 2016, 7:49 PM

Alice Lewis-Eckardt: Off color jokes

Dec 18 2016, 7:50 PM

Guest6012 (guest): (Judy) It is nothing about modesty, but I must confess that I feel taken aback when I see Sisters wearing jewelry and make-up. It feels against poverty to me.

50 PM

Guest46 (guest): The mouth speaks what the heart is full of !

Dec 18 2016, 7:50 PM

Dawn (guest): I don’t think I typed that, not intentional anyways….ano?

Dec 18 2016, 7:50 PM

Ruth (guest): My brother Richard’s wife always dressed modestly, by anyone’s standards — at least here in the US., but Rich thought it would be better if ALL women wore burkas

2016, 7:52 PM

Lisa C: 1 John 3

3 See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears,[a] we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 3 All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure. , 7:53 PM

Guest6012 (guest): Impurity leaks into our lives in books, music, movies. We must guard against using such forms of entertainment. Also we need to stay away from people whose values and behaviors are questionable. Unless we are especially strong, such people could rub off on us. 7:57 PM

Guest6012 (guest): (Judy) I am thinking about the terminology “guilty by association.” Association with people of questionable values could cause others that we are of the same “ilk.”

Dec 18 2016, 7:58 PM

Guest6012 (guest): (Judy) Others to think that we are of the same “ilk

16, 7:58 PM

VisitationSiste: It is hard to both avoid people and evangelize at the same time, seems to me 7:59 PM

Ruth (guest): I think that little lies come into our thinking and sometimes speech because of an “I problem” — as the children sang in our Catholic School Play about Why God had to come to Earth as a baby.

Dec 18 2016, 7:59 PM

Guest46 (guest): I remember story of John Bunyan conversation . He was a terrible person worst drunk swore at everybody he was walking up the street and heard young girls in front of him talking about there great Love for God and all He was doing for them .They were very poor young girls . He said he saw that they were living in a world that he was not apart of but it was a world he wanted to be apart of ! Pure Love for God cuts through everything ! This experience was a beginning for him . His later books have led million

Dec 18 2016, 8:00 PM

Lisa C: Mother, I think we are to avoid those who try to convert us to worldly things, but others who do not pressure us to do the wrong things can be evangelized.

Dec 18 2016, 8:00 PM

Guest6012 (guest): (Judy) Yes, that is true. I was just thinking that it would be hard to help such people to change unless we are modeling the right behaviors for them. How can we do this and protect ourselves at the same time?

Dec 18 2016, 8:00 PM

Guest46 (guest): Millions to Jesus Christ ! Keep Shining All !

6, 8:04 PM

Guest46 (guest): Jesus teaches us to go into all the world and preach the Gospel . The pure Love for God that I see in our chat needs to be shared with everyone in the world . They will come to Christ ! 07 PM

Guest6012 (guest): (Judy) In this season, I think that sending religious Christmas cards is a form of evangelization.

Dec 18 2016, 8:07 PM

Guest46 (guest): We forget sometimes just to invite others to church !

Dec 18 2016, 8:08 PM

Guest6012 (guest): (Judy) Or to faith sharing programs held in parishes.

8:09 PM

VisitationSiste: and retreats

Dec 18 2016, 8:10 PM

Guest46 (guest): Any way we can invite others to God’s table ! He wants to bring everyone home to Heaven !

Dec 18 2016, 8:10 PM

Ruth (guest): I have a “friend” who is the adult niece of a dear deceased friend — a Mercy Sister — with whose large extended family I share many of the holidays. For a long time she kept posting some pretty risque stuff on my Facebook Page. I would just delete it without comment. Now she posts more appropriate stuff. She’s a corrections officer/security guard, and firearms instructor. She was always very protective of her daughter until the girl became a teenager. Now she posts more appropriate stuff most of th

Dec 18 2016, 8:11 PM

Guest6012 (guest): (Judy) Leaving religious literature in doctor’s offices, libraries, restaurants, movie theaters, and other places can help to evangelize also.

13 PM

Guest46 (guest): The way we walk through trials and remain Faithful to a God is soo powerful ! We are living the word of God ! I can do all things through Christ ho strengthens me !!! 6 PM

Guest46 (guest): You have all been a great encouragement for me and my family ! I really can’t thank you enough for your prayers it has been a very very difficult year!

Dec 18 2016, 8:17 PM

Ruth (guest): Yes, Brian, but usually our trials are hidden from non-believers, and IF we share them — my experience is — people do not want to hear about it. On the way home from a retreat, after being told very plainly, “I don’t want to hear about any of that; when I have negative experiences, I just forget about it.” This was from a devout Catholic who was driving us.

Guest6012 (guest): (Judy) Hitting on that last question about salvation in Jesus and the need to obtain purity. Our salvation is indeed in Jesus. He is the most pure of all men. Since our lives as Christians are ordered to imitating Jesus, living according to His teachings, then living in purity is imperative to our salvation. We cannot expect to enter into the Kingdom of the All Pure Lord unless we strive for a high degree of purity of body, mind, spirit and intention.

8:18 PM

VisitationSiste: Yes and if not, purgatory purifies, but painfully

Dec 18 2016, 8:18 PM

Ruth (guest): Soon after she was telling, emotionally, about having lost the little triangular vegetable clippings strainer out her sink — maybe accidentally thrown it away.

Dec 18 2016, 8:20 PM

Guest6012 (guest): (Judy) Her priorities are mixed up.

1 PM

VisitationSiste: Good point Judy. Jesus is Purity itself. Follow Him as closely as we can and let Him live His life in us22 PM

Ruth (guest): And yet, I think she would agree with all the things we say here about the Eucharist and Jesus, etc. I tried to — gently — point out that losing the strainer was one “negative experience” she had obviously not yet “forgotten about.”

Dec 18 2016, 8:23 PM

Guest46 (guest): Yesterday I had experience of Muslim man I know who has a Christian wife share with me about his nephews illness . He was comforted when I shared that my son had had similar experience ! Please pray for Moe’s conversion . He used to aviod me now he is sharing !

:25 PM

Ruth (guest): Yes, I think sharing is where true evangelization can happen. And being a good listener is where it starts. I try to “filter out” some of the bold, bad language and “hear” the pain and confusion that sometimes lies behind it. PM

Guest46 (guest): Talked to Harry my Hindu friend with triplet boys . He will be moving to Switzerland next year his wife would like support of her family . He will have to stay in US couple of months alone . He will miss his family terribly .. please pray for him !

Dec 18 2016, 8:27 PM

Guest6012 (guest): (Judy) I think that there is sometimes deep anger behind such language also.

Dec 18 2016, 8:28 PM

Ruth (guest): Is she from Switzerland, Brian. I don’t remember that part.

9 PM

VisitationSiste: Dear Friends, I must leave. Have a very Blessed Christmas, a holy one and chat will return New Years day, not Christmas.

Dec 18 2016, 8:29 PM

Ruth (guest): That, Brian, is the basis of healing prayer, too. Listen, love, pray!

Dec 18 2016, 8:30 PM

Ruth (guest): Thanks, Sister, for all you’ve been doing to arrange these chats. Have a blessed Christmas!

Dec 18 2016, 8:31 PM

Guest6012 (guest): (Judy) Let us meet in spirit at the manger. May the newborn King let many special graces and blessings flow to you from His tiny hands. His love be yours always. May He be the best gift you receive.

Dec 18 2016, 8:33 PM

Ruth (guest): Jesus is the reason for the Season of joy and hope and good cheer, peace and friendship.

Dec 18 2016, 8:34 PM

Guest46 (guest): Her family lives there ! They are very supportive ! I told Harry what a help it was for us to have our parents nearby to help us with the kids ! You need support ! I also shared with him that God’ s promise to send the Holy Spirit to us because of all Jesus has done for us ! Holy Spirit empowers us to do things we could never be capable of ! Example St Mother Theresa!!!

Dec 18 2016, 8:36 PM

Ruth (guest): Good work for the Lord, Brian. You are a powerful evangelist! Because the Holy Spirit is working through you. My prayers for you, your family, and your friends.

Dec 18 2016, 8:37 PM

Guest46 (guest): God Bless You All ! Merry Christmas ! Love Brian , Janet , Lian , Mitch , and Maria !!!

Dec 18 2016, 8:38 PM

Ruth (guest): BTW I like Switzerand. Does Harry’s wife speak German (Swiss German), French? I have friends in the Wettingen/Lucern area. Good experiences!

Dec 18 2016, 8:39 PM

Ruth (guest): Will he have to learn a new language?
