SrSusan (Guest): Is Saint Francis saying that we should never judge whatsoever?
What is the distinction between rash judgment and right judgment?
Where in your life do you tend to look for the spec in your brother’s eye and not notice the wooden beam in your own eye? (see Matthew 7:3)

SrSusanMarie (Guest): we should never judge whatsoever?
What is the distinction between rash judgment and right judgment?

Apr 9 2017, 7:38 PM

Dawn (Guest): Hi Carol Ann, Mother, Lisa, and Brian? Hi

Apr 9 2017, 7:38 PM

Lisa C: Maybe right judgment knows all the facts, and knows the intent or the heart of the person being judged, so only God can really judge.

Apr 9 2017, 7:38 PM

Carol Ann: Right judgement takes all the facts of a case and holds them up to the light of Scripture

Carol Ann: Rash judgement doesn’t need facts, but relies on our own opinions and emotions

Apr 9 2017, 7:39 PM

Carol Ann: Hi Brian

Lisa C: Even facts may not be able to show what a person’s perspective is when they do something, because they may have misconceptions of what is true.

Apr 9 2017, 7:40 PM

Guest8994 (Guest): (Judy) St. Francis does not say that we should never judge. But he does say that we should not judge people. I believe that we can judge actions as objectively good, bad or indifferent. Making dinner for a sick neighbor is good. Stealing from your employer is bad. Going ice skating is indifferent. It becomes bad if you go ice skating when your parents have told you not to.

41 PM

Lisa C: St. Francis says that some people in charge of others should judge with love. Examples: parents, Superiors in congregations

Apr 9 2017, 7:41 PM

SrSusanMarie (Guest): As I mentioned in a past chat, there is a difference between evaluating a situation and judging it. Or a person, for ex, should they become a novice- must evaluate that

Apr 9 2017, 7:41 PM

Guest9092 (Guest): Hi Judy !

Apr 9 2017, 7:41 PM

SrSusanMarie (Guest): are you Ruth 9092

Apr 9 2017, 7:42 PM

Guest8994 (Guest): (Judy) According to the Catechis, #2477, rash judgment is assuming as true, without sufficient foundation, the moral fault of another. Right judgment, then would be a formulation based on having all of the necessary information, including the intention of the individual.

Apr 9 2017, 7:43 PM

Guest9092 (Guest): No it’s Brian Sr Susan !

Apr 9 2017, 7:43 PM

Lisa C: Hi Brian

Apr 9 2017, 7:44 PM

Guest9092 (Guest): Hi Lisa!

Apr 9 2017, 7:44 PM

Carol Ann: I am wondering how many of our conversations go astray because we do not understand this distinction and just keep talking long past the time we should be silent

46 PM

Dawn (Guest): not sure I understand the connection

Apr 9 2017, 7:46 PM

Guest8994 (Guest): (Judy) Perhaps we should resolve not to say anything about other people unless it is something complmentary.

Apr 9 2017, 7:46 PM

SrSusanMarie (Guest): The recent chat helped me recognize a moment of potential gossip last week, hope it will help me with rash judgment as we spell these things out

PM

Carol Ann: Dawn, because so many of our conversations seem to revolve around speaking about others

Apr 9 2017, 7:47 PM

Guest8994 (Guest): (Judy) Oops. That should be “complimentary.”

Apr 9 2017, 7:48 PM

Guest7094 (Guest): Hello everyone; I didn’t see my name pop up when I signed in, so I’m not sure if this is working or maybe I am Guest 8994?

Apr 9 2017, 7:48 PM

Carol Ann: Ruth?

PM

SrSusanMarie (Guest): So right judgement is used in what situations then

Guest8994 (Guest): (Judy) When we have all of the information.

Apr 9 2017, 7:51 PM

Lisa C: Maybe a Priest in Confession has to judge whether someone is really sorry for the sins they are confessing

Apr 9 2017, 7:51 PM

Guest7094 (Guest): opps. Judy! In person, this time. Thanks for sending in your thoughts other times when you could not be here.

Apr 9 2017, 7:51 PM

Carol Ann: Right judgement is in a court ofvlaw, that judges actions

2 PM

Guest9092 (Guest): I don’t think that we ever have all of the information that’s why Jesus asks not to judge others !

Apr 9 2017, 7:53 PM

Dawn (Guest): good point Brian1

53 PM

Carol Ann: But yet we are called to judge actions almost constantly 7:53 PM

Guest9092 (Guest): I think that real Love puts aside judgement

Apr 9 2017, 7:54 PM

SrSusanMarie (Guest): Judge vs evaluate

PM

Guest8994 (Guest): (Judy) I think that in a court of law, a distinction can be made between 1st degree murder and secondary manslaughter based on whether the individual intended to kill the other person.

Apr 9 2017, 7:54 PM

Dawn (Guest): some in professions or religious life, but mostly personal I think. I would call it professionally as assessing

Apr 9 2017, 7:54 PM

Guest7094 (Guest): Sometimes I think that if it were true that “The road to hell is paved with good intentions” I’d be in big trouble; there are so many “good intentions” that I never accomplish . .

55 PM

Carol Ann: So we avoid judgement by using its couisns, evaluation and assessment

Apr 9 2017, 7:55 PM

Guest8994 (Guest): (JUdy) You’d be in good company. I’m right there with you,.

Apr 9 2017, 7:56 PM

Dawn (Guest): but…making these judgments are not the same as thinking we can know someones heart

Apr 9 2017, 7:57 PM

Carol Ann: That is true Dawn

Apr 9 2017, 7:57 PM

Guest7094 (Guest): I like that Dawn: Assessment. That is making a judgement but not being judgemental, that is, not thinking less of a person because we recognize certain faults or deficiencies in the hope of helping to remedy or eliminate them.

Apr 9 2017, 7:57 PM

Guest9092 (Guest): It’s good to remember the guy that said no first but then went ahead and completed task and to avoid saying yes yes and never doing what we intended

Apr 9 2017, 7:58 PM

Lisa C: Extreme case: Terrorists went into Coptic Church Palm Sunday Service and blew it up today. Are we allowed to judge?

8 PM

Lisa C: Extreme case: Terrorists went into Coptic Church Palm Sunday Service and blew it up today. Are we allowed to judge?

Apr 9 2017, 7:58 PM

Carol Ann: The action is evil. But are the men twisted and mentally ill?

Apr 9 2017, 7:59 PM

Guest7094 (Guest): Maybe what we mean in this context about judging others is actually condemning them. Because even to select a spiritual director, for example, we must judge that that person has the qualities necessary to be a spiritual director.

Apr 9 2017, 7:59 PM

SrSusanMarie (Guest): Yes good term Dawn. Lisa it is a reality but the suicide bomber- we know nothing about

Apr 9 2017, 7:59 PM

Guest8994 (Guest): (Judy) I think we can. We know that the terrorists’ motive is the removal of Christianity from the face of the earth. Of course, if the bomber was coerced, guilt would be mitigated.

Apr 9 2017, 8:00 PM

Lisa C: What are we supposed to think or judge about them

Apr 9 2017, 8:00 PM

Guest9092 (Guest): Wonderful things God is able to accomplish when we are able to forgive and Love those who have harmed our communities !

Apr 9 2017, 8:02 PM

Guest8994 (Guest): (Judy) What was that great song from “Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in ,” “If We Only Have Love!”

Apr 9 2017, 8:02 PM

Guest8994 (Guest): (Judy) Living in Paris.

03 PM

Guest9092 (Guest): Remember the example of the Amish Community in Pennsylvania when they forgave the man who killed their children . Pope John Paul ll who forgave the man who shot him

Apr 9 2017, 8:04 PM

Guest8994 (Guest): 1(Judy) What a great example they provided for the world.

8:05 PM

Guest9092 (Guest): We live in a world that is soo quick to hate ! We must Love even when it seems impossible ! With God all things are possible !

Apr 9 2017, 8:05 PM

Guest7094 (Guest): Fortunately the man who murdered those children and the man who tried to kill JPII were no longer a threat to them. The terrorists are predicted by some scholars to completely change the face of

Apr 9 2017, 8:05 PM

SrSusanMarie (Guest): Last q Where in your life do you tend to look for the spec in your brother’s eye and not notice the wooden beam in your own eye? (see Matthew 7:3)

Apr 9 2017, 8:07 PM

Guest7094 (Guest): That’s a continuation of what I wrote above.

PM

Lisa C: Maybe we have to have a mote in our eye to even notice a speck in anyone else’s eye

Apr 9 2017, 8:09 PM

Lisa C: We probably should never be worrying about specks in anyone else

Apr 9 2017, 8:09 PM

Guest7094 (Guest): Brian, what you say is true, but loving does not necessarily mean accepting the values of the other.

Apr 9 2017, 8:09 PM

Guest9092 (Guest): Amen Lisa !

Apr 9 2017, 8:09 PM

Guest8994 (Guest): (Judy) Let he who is without sin throw the first stone.

Apr 9 2017, 8:10 PM

Guest7094 (Guest): Christ loved from the cross those who nailed him to it; his love was by way of example, knowing that he would rise again.

:10 PM

Dawn (Guest): Mother, trying to re route thinking about another person their heart or as we are talking, but I do realized much more could be understood by addressing my own dysfunctions first. it must start there I think.

Apr 9 2017, 8:11 PM

Guest7094 (Guest): That is why it is possible for Christians to love evil doers without loving the evil acts they do.

Apr 9 2017, 8:11 PM

Carol Ann: If we all did our own inner work we would have no time to judge others but it can be easier to “fix” some one else’s problems when our own seem too hard

Apr 9 2017, 8:11 PM

Guest8994 (Guest): (Judy) We need to pay more attention to our own actions than to the actions of others.

PM

Guest7094 (Guest): We kjnow that, by the grace of God, in the end, victory is offered us, through Christ.

Apr 9 2017, 8:12 PM

Dawn (Guest): when we can honestly look at ourself, I think this is a process, then we can understand others and have compassion for them and their failings. I do not know how to bring this to the subject of terrorists!

PM

Guest9092 (Guest): That’s true to Love someone does not mean that we accept their values that is why it is soo wonderful the Love Jesus had for us when He was willing to live here and die here for all of us !

Apr 9 2017, 8:14 PM

Lisa C: Maybe we can bring it to the terrorists by knowing that Jesus died for all sins. If terrorists sins are gigantic they need Him even more.

Apr 9 2017, 8:14 PM

Carol Ann: Dawn, but we must also learn to have compassion for ourselves and our frailities, not excusing them but taking them to the Cross , or we won’t have compassion to give

Apr 9 2017, 8:14 PM

Guest9092 (Guest): He was willing to do that for us we must share that same Love for others no matter what they have done !

Apr 9 2017, 8:15 PM

Guest7094 (Guest): Carol Ann, that is so true; and yet, God can effectively use us broken instruments for others. Amazing!

Apr 9 2017, 8:15 PM

Lisa C: We can share Jesus with them. Pray for Him to go to them and send them His grace.

M

Lisa C: We can share Jesus with them. Pray for Him to go to them and send them His grace.

Apr 9 2017, 8:15 PM

Guest9092 (Guest): Remember St Paul was a terrorist !

Apr 9 2017, 8:16 PM

Dawn (Guest): good point! st Paul

Apr 9 2017, 8:16 PM

Guest7094 (Guest): Jesus became like us in all things but sin.

, 8:16 PM

Dawn (Guest): insight for me Carol Ann

Apr 9 2017, 8:16 PM

Lisa C: If His mercy is infinite it can swallow up terrorists’ sins

Apr 9 2017, 8:17 PM

Carol Ann: It is something I am slowly learning

Apr 9 2017, 8:17 PM

Lisa C: When they are at the doorstep of death and see Him and see truth they will be sorry

Apr 9 2017, 8:17 PM

Guest9092 (Guest): After his conversion it was very difficult for him to speak to those communities he had terrorized but God chose him to speak to those who had never heard of Jesus !

Apr 9 2017, 8:17 PM

Guest8994 (Guest): (Judy)I believe that it will take a direct intervention from the Lord to bring an end to terrorism.

Apr 9 2017, 8:17 PM

Guest7094 (Guest): That is true, Carol Ann. Love your neighbor as yourself, but then you have to love yourself well or you cannot love your neighbor.

PM

Guest7094 (Guest): That is true, Carol Ann. Love your neighbor as yourself, but then you have to love yourself well or you cannot love your neighbor.

Apr 9 2017, 8:18 PM

Guest7094 (Guest): Good connection,

Apr 9 2017, 8:18 PM

Guest7094 (Guest): Brian,

SrSusanMarie (Guest): Jesus is giving us signs. His icon in the Holy Sepulcher- the eyes opened and rays poured out. Did you see that

8 PM

SrSusanMarie (Guest): Jesus is giving us signs. His icon in the Holy Sepulcher- the eyes opened and rays poured out. Did you see that

Apr 9 2017, 8:19 PM

Lisa C: No, Mother

Apr 9 2017, 8:19 PM

Carol Ann: I saw the picture of the eyes open but not the rays

Apr 9 2017, 8:19 PM

Carol Ann: And the 100 anniversary of Fatima is very soon

Apr 9 2017, 8:20 PM

Guest7094 (Guest): I am convinced of it, Mother —

PM

SrSusanMarie (Guest): We need Him!

Apr 9 2017, 8:26 PM

Guest7094 (Guest): It may require a lot of martyrs. It already has.

Apr 9 2017, 8:26 PM

Carol Ann: The victory is already won. It reminds me of the Carmelite “already but not yet”

Apr 9 2017, 8:32 PM

Guest7094 (Guest): All of which points to the necessity of community to live Christianity. Even the hermits — touched the larger community.

Apr 9 2017, 8:32 PM

Guest8994 (Guest): (Judy) From the cross, Jesus cried out “I thirst!” It was not for water that He thirsted, but for the love of His people. As Good Friday approaches. let us respond to His cry and pour ourselves out in love for Him. May your Holy Week be truly holy and your Easter filled with the joy of the Resurrection!
