Last week’s topic was very similar to this, but now we are thinking of God’s love for us apart from how it is expressed in the sacrifice of the cross. What does it mean when Saint Francis says,He always loved you from eternity”? How does God love someone who doesn’t exist yet? What should we take from Saint Francis telling us that “the soul is worth but little without its good resolutions”? God’s love is meant to teach us something – that we should love. 1 John 4:20 says,If anyone says,I lo

Nov 16, 8:48 AM

VisitationSR (Guest): John 4:20 says,If anyone says,I love God, but hates his brother, he is a liar; for whoever does not love a brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. What should we learn from this?

WELCOME

 Nov 19, 7:36

Dawn (Guest): I enjoyed learning something each week, going a little deeper, its good!

Nov 19, 7:37 PM

Judy (Guest): My response to question 1 is brief. While we did not always exist in our bodily form, God knew us from all eternity and loved us from all eternity,. It was out lfo His love that He placed us in the world to love and to serve Him.

Nov 19, 7:37 PM

SrSusan (Guest): This week is a continuation of last in a way

Nov 19, 7:37 PM

Dawn (Guest): and helpful. its such as formation in a way

Nov 19, 7:37 PM

SrSusan (Guest): We were always in the mind of God

Nov 19, 7:37 PM

SrSusan (Guest): in that sense we are eternal?

Nov 19, 7:38 PM

Dawn (Guest): I have not considered we are eternal in this way

Nov 19, 7:38 PM

SrSusan (Guest): We existed in His mind

Nov 19, 7:39 PM

Judy (Guest): Maybe yes and maybe no. Although God never had a beginning, there might have a time when we began in His mind. We may not have been there for a time.

Nov 19, 7:39 PM

Dawn (Guest): this helps to understand a bit more how deeply he loves

Nov 19, 7:40 PM

SrSusan (Guest): that’s true too, very possible

Nov 19, 7:41 PM

Dawn (Guest): is this a mystical.....a beautiful mystery

Nov 19, 7:41 PM

SrSusan (Guest): hi Ruth

Nov 19, 7:41 PM

Ruth (Guest): Yes, I just today wrote a post on FB – a response to a statement that we are just thought – without mention of God (in the original) just of matter – formed in the stars, making up the stuff we are made of, including our eyes, looking at the stars. It was a nice meditation, but the conclusion, indirectly, would deny bodily resurrection.

Nov 19, 7:43 PM

Dawn (Guest): Hi Ruth

Nov 19, 7:44 PM

SrSusan (Guest): very interesting sounding meditation

Nov 19, 7:44 PM

Judy (Guest): Hi Ruth. I don’t understand how we could be just thought. If that were true, we would have no bodily existence.

Nov 19, 7:44 PM

Ruth (Guest): It was on a site where most “participants” hold strongly to Catholic beliefs, but it seemed to me that the quoted excerpt was accepted (liked) without thinking critically about the conclusion.

Nov 19, 7:45 PM

Ruth (Guest): Exactly, Judy.

Nov 19, 7:45 PM

Dawn (Guest): would this be prior to being born in flesh, that we are a thought.

Nov 19, 7:45 PM

Judy (Guest): We were certainly a thought in the mind of God prior to being born in the flesh.

Nov 19, 7:46 PM

Ruth (Guest): It seems to me that we may have been little more than thought in the mind of God UNTIL we were conceived. After that we have a bodily existence in life – and in a way, even after death.

Nov 19, 7:47 PM

Ruth (Guest): The body is laid in the grave, to be made brand new at the time of the bodily resurrection.

Nov 19, 7:47 PM

Dawn (Guest): conceived was the word looking for

Nov 19, 7:48 PM

Judy (Guest): I don’t thing that we were “little more than thought in the mind of God” We were loved by God even before we were born.

Nov 19, 7:49 PM

SrSusan (Guest): What should we take from Saint Francis telling us that “the soul is worth but little without its good resolutions” how does thios one fit- somehow does not flow

Nov 19, 7:50 PM

Ruth (Guest): ganz neu” is the expression a priest used in an letter telling me about his heart rate having slowed down to 24 then to 12 in the hospital before he got his pacemaker. He cannot even go for a stroll without his scooter so he’s figuring that it will not be long before he is made brand new!

Nov 19, 7:51 PM

Dawn (Guest): yes, St F says ch 15 : when did He begin to love you? When He began to be God. and when was His beginning? Never, for He has always been without beginning and without end: wherefore He has Always loved you....

Nov 19, 7:52 PM

Guest6941 (Guest): Hi Sister Susan , Ruth, Dawn , and Judy ! God Bless You ! Brian

Nov 19, 7:52 PM

Judy (Guest): God did not intend for us to just “lie around” and soak up all the graces and goods He gives to us. We are meant to cooperate with Him in the work of salvation by our good resolutions by which we lead others to Him, or by the sufferings which come to us and which we endure patiently as redemptive suffering. We join our sufferings to His for the sanctification and salvation of others.

Nov 19, 7:52 PM

Dawn (Guest): Hello Brian! glad you are joining

Nov 19, 7:53 PM

Judy (Guest): Hi Brian! Good to “see” you as always!

Nov 19, 7:53 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Hi Brian

Nov 19, 7:53 PM

Ruth (Guest): I’m certain what you say, Judy, is true. The “little more than” was meant to mean, not yet bodily, and yet all the materials to make the body and the circumstances – a fertile man and woman, the human parents – were either existing or to be brought together to create the new human life.

Nov 19, 7:54 PM

Guest6941 (Guest): Glad to be here with you all ! Great reports from Kairos 75 Albion Ladies Retreat! Thank You for your prayers !

Nov 19, 7:55 PM

SrSusan (Guest): But I had trouble myself in thinking that the soul’s worth is tied up with anything extrinsic, I mean exclusively Is there not an intrinsic worth to a soul because God created it

Nov 19, 7:55 PM

Ruth (Guest): Hi Brian.

Nov 19, 7:55 PM

Dawn (Guest): Praise be to Jesus! Happy to hear so Brian

Nov 19, 7:55 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Great news Brian

Nov 19, 7:56 PM

Judy (Guest): The fact that God loves us gives us worth over and above anything that we might do in this life.

Nov 19, 7:57 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Yes His Love gives worth and then our cooperation enhances the worthiness by imitation God or following His Will

Nov 19, 7:57 PM

Judy (Guest): In fact Jesus told us that we were worth more than many sparows.

Nov 19, 7:58 PM

Ruth (Guest): Sr., that troubles me, too, at least a little, about what St. Francis writes here. And occasionally there are other things he writes that seem to me sort of overly class conscious – or just to provide guidelines for the new order he is founding.

Nov 19, 7:58 PM

Guest6941 (Guest): God wants us to use the gifts he has provided regulars less of our circumstances .

Nov 19, 7:59 PM

Judy (Guest): Huh?

Nov 19, 7:59 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Sometimes point those out Ruth- well its true is was nobility and the first nuns were too for the most part Hard to abandon one’s culture completely

Nov 19, 8:01 PM

SrSusan (Guest): The bottom line for all of us is loving and doing so well, generously

Nov 19, 8:01 PM

Judy (Guest): Brian, please explain your last post. Thanks!

Nov 19, 8:01 PM

Guest6941 (Guest): Reguardless of our circumstances God wants us to use our gifts , talents , and abilities ! We shine for Jesus ! Others will see and follow!

Nov 19, 8:01 PM

Judy (Guest): Gotch!

Nov 19, 8:01 PM

Judy (Guest): Gotcha!

Nov 19, 8:01 PM

Ruth (Guest): It’s OK. I may have at the time. One for instance – about not allowing a spot on your clothing. What if you are an auto mechanic, or a farmer. A time for spiffing up and a time for letting the mess be, I say.

Nov 19, 8:02 PM

Dawn (Guest): Gospel today, to use our talents

Nov 19, 8:02 PM

Guest6941 (Guest): Amen !

Nov 19, 8:03 PM

Ruth (Guest): I think Brian meant regardless of circumstances, but it came out as regulars less circumstances, Judy.

Nov 19, 8:03 PM

Judy (Guest): It certainly would not be pleasing to God if we were to just let our talents lie fallow in the fields of our being.

Nov 19, 8:04 PM

Ruth (Guest): Opps, while I was writing this, he corrected it himself.

Nov 19, 8:04 PM

Guest6941 (Guest): Reject fear and just try your best at what you think God wants you to do . Even if you fail you have tried and God Loves That !

Nov 19, 8:04 PM

Dawn (Guest): Simple and true!

Nov 19, 8:06 PM

SrSusan (Guest): On our retreat we had a priest from a community called Koinia of St John the Baptist and he talked alot about God’s love and our choice of it, rather than following evil

Nov 19, 8:06 PM

Dawn (Guest): sometimes , it may be pride pushing it, I aim to be perhaps what I am yet, not

Nov 19, 8:06 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Pride is a major fault but the most common one I think

Nov 19, 8:06 PM

SrSusan (Guest): We all have it

Nov 19, 8:07 PM

SrSusan (Guest): or most anyway

Nov 19, 8:07 PM

SrSusan (Guest): that’s why humility is always preached as it is so needed

Nov 19, 8:07 PM

Judy (Guest): Yes, pride may be the motive for some of the things we aim for, but there are things which God places in our hearts and wants us to seek them.

Nov 19, 8:07 PM

Dawn (Guest): but I was told if God places something in our heart , being it is from him, I try even tho I may fail . I think he loves our trying anyways

Nov 19, 8:08 PM

Judy (Guest): Right on Dawn!

Nov 19, 8:08 PM

Guest6941 (Guest): Unforgiveness is one of the deepest forms of Pride !

Nov 19, 8:09 PM

Ruth (Guest): I think so, too. You can’t fail if you don’t try; but not trying is a kind of failure worse than botching the effort.

Nov 19, 8:09 PM

SrSusan (Guest): The priest told us unforgiveness is one of the 4 portals we need to close to keep holy

Nov 19, 8:09 PM

Dawn (Guest): it is Brian! oh dear....remembering an offense done to us is a big clue we have not forgiven I think

Nov 19, 8:09 PM

Guest6941 (Guest): Soo true Ruth!!!

Nov 19, 8:10 PM

Dawn (Guest): Mother, thank you. Forgiveness one, a big one right? and the other three...

Nov 19, 8:10 PM

Judy (Guest): True1 If Jesus could forgive those who crucified Him, who are we to withhold forgivenss from thos who hurt us.

Nov 19, 8:11 PM

Guest6941 (Guest): Amen !

Nov 19, 8:11 PM

Ruth (Guest): Dawn, it may be a reminder that the offender needs our prayers very much just at the moment that we remember. It is what we DO with the memory – not the unwelcome “flashbacks” themselves that matters.

Nov 19, 8:11 PM

Judy (Guest): True, Ruth.

Nov 19, 8:13 PM

Dawn (Guest): thank you Ruth, you affirmed what came to my heart this week. maybe there is something else going on here why I am recalling , something I need to do for them. so you have reminded and reaffirmed this truth

Nov 19, 8:14 PM

Ruth (Guest): Some “hurts” can be so deep and traumatic that they cannot be NOT remembered, especially when there are constant reminders every where we turn. If God allows this, then he is offering us something that somehow can be USED by us for our salvation and possibly for the salvation of others.

Nov 19, 8:15 PM

SrSusan (Guest): The other 3- family baggage so to speak, childhood traumas and occult things

Nov 19, 8:15 PM

Ruth (Guest): A for instance: All the news about women coming forward with reports of sexual abuse, harassment, or even rape.

Nov 19, 8:16 PM

SrSusan (Guest): meaning they prevent us from growing into wholeness

Nov 19, 8:16 PM

Judy (Guest): And the last question, John’s quote teaches us that we are not entities unto ourselves. We are meant to be people of love, loving all people. We were created out of love for the purpose of loving. Truly, how can we say that we love God Whom we have never seen if we do not love the pepople we see and encounter. Now, this does not mean a warm, fuzzy kind of love but a practical love that desires their physical, emotional and spiritual well-being and desiring that no type of evil come to them.

Nov 19, 8:16 PM

Guest6941 (Guest): It helps to know that had the offender truly known Jesus they never would have done what they did . The enemy blinds the unbeliever .

Nov 19, 8:17 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Yes Brian!!!

Nov 19, 8:18 PM

Ruth (Guest): Sister, I think childhood trauma can be a huge obstacle to growing into wholeness, but in a broken world, they need not PREVENT us from growing into wholeness and holiness. God wants everyone whole, everyone holy.

Nov 19, 8:18 PM

Judy (Guest): The enemy might even try to blind the believers.

Nov 19, 8:18 PM

SrSusan (Guest): another point he made Judy as you said- he called it created attachment- in other words we are created to be in relationship

Nov 19, 8:20 PM

Guest6941 (Guest): Always he tries Judy that’s the importance of us always living within Christian Community !

Nov 19, 8:20 PM

SrSusan (Guest): and relationships mean love- other centered love

Nov 19, 8:21 PM

Guest6941 (Guest): No Lone Ranges

Nov 19, 8:21 PM

Judy (Guest): Living within Christian Community can help us to keep our focus and not allow the evil one to change our way of thinking.

Nov 19, 8:22 PM

Dawn (Guest): I agree Brian

Nov 19, 8:22 PM

Guest6941 (Guest): No Lone Rangers in Christianity ! We need each other with Jesus!

Nov 19, 8:22 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Harmony in community is so important

Nov 19, 8:23 PM

Judy (Guest): Even the Lone Ranger had Tonto.

Nov 19, 8:23 PM

Ruth (Guest): That, the need for community in order to live the Christian life, is what draws me most to keep on considering a religious community – even though there are few that would even consider a decrepit old woman like me.

Nov 19, 8:23 PM

Ruth (Guest): Good observation, Judy!

Nov 19, 8:24 PM

Guest6941 (Guest): We need you Ruth !!!

Nov 19, 8:24 PM

Judy (Guest): Ruth, I seriously doubt that you are a decrepit old woman!

Nov 19, 8:24 PM

Ruth (Guest): And even the hermits tended to live in colonies. Or have visitors come to them.

Nov 19, 8:25 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Have you ever gone to the hermit laura in Chester NJ

Nov 19, 8:25 PM

SrSusan (Guest): It is very special

Nov 19, 8:25 PM

Dawn (Guest): so there are many ways the Holy Spirit draws Christians together!

Nov 19, 8:25 PM

Ruth (Guest): I never heard of Laura in Chester, NJ.

Nov 19, 8:26 PM

Judy (Guest): I think that it was Dean Martin who had as the theme song for his TV progaam,Everybody Needs Somebody Sometime”.

Nov 19, 8:26 PM

SrSusan (Guest): it is called Bethlehem Hermits of the Heart of Jesus

Nov 19, 8:26 PM

Ruth (Guest): Tell us about Laura.

Nov 19, 8:26 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Laura is a word meaning colony I think- Bethlehem hermitage

Nov 19, 8:27 PM

Judy (Guest): I have never been there but I have heard of it.

Nov 19, 8:27 PM

SrSusan (Guest): https://www.bethlehemhermitage.com/

Nov 19, 8:27 PM

Dawn (Guest): thank you!

Nov 19, 8:28 PM

Ruth (Guest): I’ve been reading about the saints or wanna be saints you mentioned in a previous chat.

Nov 19, 8:28 PM

SrSusan (Guest): I went there 3 times for retreat way back in 1999 2000 and 2001

Nov 19, 8:28 PM

Ruth (Guest): Thanks for the link. I just glanced at it.

Nov 19, 8:28 PM

Nov 19, 8:28 PM

Guest6941 (Guest): Thank You Sister Susan !

SrSusan (Guest): Men and women both go there or become hermits You are welcome

Nov 19, 8:29 PM

Ruth (Guest): I had a friend Laura, who I assisted for two years as she prepared for her “home coming.

Nov 19, 8:30 PM

Judy (Guest): Since St. Gertrude’s Feast Day was last week, I decided to pick up her :eraler “Herald of Divine Love” again. It is so beautiful!!

Nov 19, 8:30 PM

Ruth (Guest): Now we chat to music. Is it coming through to you, too.

Nov 19, 8:30 PM

SrSusan (Guest): No

Nov 19, 8:30 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Ah yes Judy

Nov 19, 8:30 PM

Dawn (Guest): I hear them chant

Nov 19, 8:31 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Beautiful way to end the chat! with chant

Nov 19, 8:32 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Have a blessed Thanksgiving!

Nov 19, 8:32 PM

Judy (Guest): Let us attempt to love others with the love that the Lord has given us. Have a great Thanksgiving and a great week, everyone!!!

Nov 19, 8:32 PM
