St. Francis de Sales paved the way for today’s idea that the laity can make each day holy and sanctify their everyday activity, Pope Benedict XVI said this week during his Wednesday audience at the Vatican.
The Holy Father reviewed St. Francis’ works, Treatise on the Love of God, and Introduction to the Devout Life, and said, “Thus was born the appeal to the laity, that care to consecrate temporal things and sanctify the every day, on which the Second Vatican Council and the spirituality of our time insist.”
