The life of St. Jane Francis de Chantal was marked with much suffering — in her marriage and among those around her. But, along with St. Francis de Sales, she found the courage to start a congregation of women seeking a deep relationship with God.
The new video, “Longsuffering Leader: the Life of St. Jane de Chantal,” has proved very popular. In its first week it has been viewed nearly two thousand times on Gloria.TV.
The video of nearly four minutes relates how Jane’s husband died, leaving her, at the age of 28, with five children to care for. It talks about the difficulty of living in the estate with her father-in-law, and how she met and corresponded with St. Francis de Sales in founding the Order of the Visitation of Holy Mary.
The video explains how Francis confided to Jane his desire to found a religious order that would be welcoming to women seeking a deep relationship with God, but who for one reason or another could not live with the physical rigors of traditional religious life. In 1610, the two officially established the Order of the Visitation of Holy Mary.
The video was produced by Vocation Promotion for the Second Federation of the Visitation. See the video’s full script.
