On: Discerning with DeSales
Welcome to tonight’s chat on Discerning with DeSales! Has St Francis’ advice shaken you or are you determined to keep on the path toward religious life?
Sister: Have you a particular interest in St Francis de Sales?
Guest 1:Yes of course. I have read many of his works

(guest): I lived in france for several years and took an interest in both he and St Jane
Anyway I have been posting on St Francis’ understandings of religious life- do you find it overwhelming- I mean his explanations?
Jan 29 2012, 7:31 PM (guest): at times they can be
Jan 29 2012, 7:32 PM
(guest): but like all great writings of that nature, you digest them gradually and sometimes discover things in another reading session
Jan 29 2012, 7:32 PM
(guest): have you ever read any other letters between he and St. Jane?
Jan 29 2012, 7:33 PM
Sister:Oh lots of them. There are several volumes of letters
Jan 29 2012, 7:33 PM
(guest): sometimes there are clues contained there as she would ask him questions

Sister: A good edition is Sr Peronne Marie’s with Wendy Wright’s intro
Guest 2.: I read the first of the three on St Francis de Sales thoughts on discernment, and was even brave enough to leave a comment. Thank you so much for sending me the link.

Sister: That’s right. I did see it! You’re welcome. But St Francis gets serious about vocations
Jan 29 2012, 7:56 PM
Sister : For today’s world it might scare folks!
Guest:Not me
Jan 29 2012, 7:56 PM
Guest 2.: Nor me, but he’s so right.
Jan 29 2012, 7:57 PM
Guest 2:The external things like the good singing, happy faces, are just external manifestations of what’s going on inside the heart
Jan 29 2012, 7:57 PM
Sister:What I thought was that many discerners are looking for “radical” but usually exteriorly and he’s more interiorly radical if you know what I mean
Guest: Yes, because you can be exteriorly radical without ever changing yourself, or knowing a need for transformation.

Sister : And so many of us come to community for prayer and community and forget we are thwere to change and become like Our Lord
Jan 29 2012, 7:58 PM
Sister : Exactly!
I like the idea of both prayer and service
Jan 29 2012, 7:59 PM
Guest: Me too! And the places I like, that like me back, will use ALL of me in a way the secular world wouldn’t understand or want.
Jan 29 2012, 8:00 PM
(guest): This is a really lovely opportunity. I am appreciative to have found it!

Guest 2.: Yes! It has been a long road, but a short one. Once I really began to undertand Who was calling me and what He might want, it was really very easy to go.
