Mother Mary de Sales Chappuis, Superior of the Visitation Monastery in Troyes in the mid-1800’s, was also the inspiration for the foundation of the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales through Blessed Louis Brisson.
Her wisdom was profound and influenced many people in her day.
While her Lenten talks were addressed to her Visitandine daughters, many may profit by her insightful words.
” Our Holy Founder says that we have received our vocation to be redeemed more abundantly and to share more largely in the merits of the Passion of the Savior. Our share in these merits will be given to us in proportion to our fidelity in using the means furnished by our vocation. These means are the presence of God, the frequent use of aspirations and distrust of self. The presence of God is a means so useful that the Superior is recommended to hold her hand in the presence of God.
We learn to depend on God. The season of Lent is the proper time for us to enter into the spiritĀ of dependence and submission. These dispositions are those of our Savior. He has very special graces to assist us to acquire them.
