Mother Mary de Sales Chappuis gave many instructions to her Visitandine daughters. We begin a significant lesson for Lent.

“Our Holy Founder says that our abode is on Calvary. To walk in this way we must follow the Savior. We shall be instructed and aided if we consider our Savior while He was in this life, and if we notice what he did in the particular circumstances in which our life resembles His.

To be instructed is to know what we have to do and how it should be done. We are instructed by reading books, especially when we have a good teacher who directs our studies, who explains what the books contain, and who afterwards tells us what means are to be employed to succeed in practicing what they teach.

Our great book is the crucifix, and our Master is our Savior, not yer crucified if you prefer some other mystery; for we are free to choose Him in the one we like the best. If we consider Him in His infancy it will be well; or in His childhood, it will still be well; in the desert, on Calvary, on the Cross- each one according to her own attraction.

The Savior must explain our book, and Lent is the proper season for this study.”

Reflection:

What aspect of Our Lord Jesus’s life calls to me to meditate on this Lent 2013?
