This month we continue to share the riches of our Visitation Monastery of Rosolini Italy in the person of Sr Elena Aneli who was born in Rosolini September 29, 1920, Feast of Saint Michael the Archangel, in a modest family with six children, three boys and three girls. The movement of the Holy Spirit that she was drawn into at nine years of age as the Shrine of the Sacred Heart developed in that city, included Mother Carmela Aprile and Sister Serafina Rubbera, and continues to this very day!
September 2014 Feast Of Sacred Heart, Rosolini
Nine years after her birth, her father entrusted to her the task of selling “ricotta “; Passing in front of the house of Mother Carmela Aprile, she could not go any further; she stopped, knocked, entered and was happy to be in her company and with the adolescent Serafina Rubbera; Mother Carmela bought all the riccotta!. Her mother Joan followed her closely. The persistence of the innocent little daughter to stay with Mother Carmela, illuminated the minds and touched the hearts of the parents; so they decided to offer her to the Sacred Heart.
In the constant serenity of her face and her smile was the eloquence and wisdom of the strong, the transparency of one who is always ready to serve, and to give themselves.
The people that she helped over successive years were several thousand. She was a faithful caretaker of the Shrine of the Sacred Heart and of the Monastery, nestled in the Ministry of Christ the Savior.
She knew also how to take, in the name of God, strong positions : “Confessions and Sunday Mass, devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, no divorce, no to cohabitation; God’s law must always be respected; the man without prayer is an empty sack; counter evil with good, always forgive; Jesus is the doctor and medicine, “; everything was repeated with an energetic mood, without excuse, to live following Christ in an adult and responsible way.
Sister Elena was sought as spiritual reference point, even for those who were of the best society; teachers with university departments, officials of the Sicilian Region, men engaged in the management of public affairs, doctors, veterinarians, people of both sexes of the white-collar class, super landowners of ‘latest fashion …:
Sister Elena lived almost all of the historical events of the Shrine of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in total surrender “to Him who knows all, sees and provides … ..”.
Certainly she was one of the stones, very precious, chosen by the Good God, to spread of the Cult of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Incarnate Word.
She was docile, peacemaking, just. This was proven by the immense suffering she endured of the Cross of the Heart of Christ the Redeemer.
Sister Elena was pierced in body and in spirit! The Lord had allowed her to be subjected to twelve surgeries and was visited by various diseases, especially those in the lung, which were very serious.
She lived it all with the spirit of self-giving and offertory, without any sign of rejection, in patience, “in singleness of heart,” for the conversion of sinners, and in reparation to the Sacred Heart for Priests, in total surrender to the will of the Heavenly Father.
It was never said that Sister Elena had done any miracles, or had visions, apparitions, or anything out of the ordinary in her life
In fraternal vigilance towards the Apostle of the Sacred Heart, the Community of the Sisters of the Visitation, spent with Sister Elena the period of time that spans the autumn of 2000 until August of 2001.
During this period, and even months before, Sister Elena had become blind.
Before beginning her silent commitments of the day, and then before retiring for the night ,she used to enter the inner part of the sanctuary, with a genuflection, then threw open her arms in the shape of a cross, and rested her palms on the sides of the altar with the attitude of a tender embrace of the wholeness of Jesus; so she stood in prayer, heart to heart, regardless if she was alone or not.
But now the meeting with His Sacred Heart was near.
On August 13 2001, it was about 7.30 and Sister Elena slept serene, with the vigilant presence of the Mother and the Sisters; she breathed softly, then dear Sister Elena fell asleep in the Lord.
