September, Father Caetano Rizzi, who works in the Vatican’s congregation for saints, told CNA that the Pope was interested in canonizing Mother Teresa during the Jubilee Year of Mercy, which runs from Dec. 8, 2015-Nov. 20, 2016.Read the rest of the article here.Questions to ponder: How does Mother Teresa serve as a prime example of mercy for this Jubilee Year of Mercy? Mother Teresa had many people come to her wanting to serve in Calcutta. To them she said: “Stay where you are. Find your own Calcutt Find your own Calcutta. Find the sick, the suffering, and the lonely right there where you are — in your own homes and in your own families, in your workplaces and in your schools.” Where is the Calcutta in your life that you are overlooking?
How can you choose to live out this Year of Mercy with intention?

Judy K: Hi Mother and Everyone,

Judy K: I am not quite up to par yet so I will not be chatting tonight. I just have one thought to share with you. Mother Teresa led a life that was a true spiritual and corporal work of mercy. Taking care of the sick, feeding the hungry, setting up orphanages for so many babies, praying unceasingly for all. Mother lived mercy. For us to live out this year of mercy, perhaps it would be helpful if each of us made a resolution to perform at least one work of mercy, spiritual or corporal, for the year.

L my friend had her as his graduation speaker at St. John’s University

Lisa C: Mother, the post about Mere Marie Therese has a picture of her, her veil has a white band at the top instead of black. Is there a reason?

Dec 20 2015, 7:32 PM

VisitationSiste: The Calcutta’of our lives are all around us even if we do not recognize them We have many elderly Sisters and if we did not have home health aides they would be in a sorry state with just a few odf us to help

7:36 PM

GuestMichelle (guest): I’m not exposed to many homeless where I am – but I have people I work with that have tough situations.

Dec 20 2015, 7:37 PM

Dawn L: I have been thinking about Calcutta. Not all would be as obvious in need as Mother Teresa’a..could our Calcutta be small

2015, 7:37 PM

Carol Ann: Or hidden inside in a spiritual way, 7:38 PM

VisitationSiste: a spiritual Calcutta?

Carol Ann: Yes, those who are starving because they feed themselves on the world, who don’t see the sanctity of life but a “right” instead

PM

Alice Lewis-Eckardt: I work in a nursing home and i feel called to care for the elderly

Dec 20 2015, 7:39 PM

Lisa C: Elderly patients who are sick- even young people who are sick and afraid

15, 7:40 PM

GuestMichelle (guest): Sometimes I think it is the small things we do – sometimes listening to someone, especially when we are pressed for time. There are many who are lonely and just need someone to listen.

Dec 20 2015, 7:40 PM

Ruth (guest): Hello Sister, and “cyber-sisters’ Hello guest 1217: Brian?

PM

VisitationSiste: Carol can we delve into your insights more- very interesting.

Dec 20 2015, 7:41 PM

Lisa C: Children with learning disabilities who need extra help

Lisa C: Children with learning disabilities who need extra help

Dec 20 2015, 7:42 PM

VisitationSiste: There are the externally suffering and the interna;lly

Dec 20 2015, 7:42 PM

JenniferKOO (guest): Internal suffering could be worst

Dec 20 2015, 7:42 PM

Carol Ann: in some way Calcutta is in all of us

Dec 20 2015, 7:43 PM

Ruth (guest): The psychiatric patients in Troy. But harder to see, some of the staff, especially those who behave badly.

Dec 20 2015, 7:43

Dec 20 2015, 7:45 PM

GuestMichelle (guest): It is good to be aware that we are making a difference

Dec 20 2015, 7:45 PM

Ruth (guest): I hope so. I try to. But sometimes it is clear where He wants us to be, what He wants us to do, and sometimes it is far from clear.

Dec 20 2015, 7:45 PM

GuestMichelle (guest): True

Dec 20 2015, 7:46 PM

JenniferKOO (guest): The holy spirit will lead us.

Dec 20 2015, 7:46 PM

Carol Ann: Discernment can be difficult even with a director. but when everyone wants to direct…who’s in the play?

Dec 20 2015, 7:46 PM

Guest1217 (guest): One if the Psychiatrists I work with was soo excited Friday when he heard Mother Theresa was close to being a Saint and he is a Muslim from India !

Dec 20 2015, 7:48 PM

GuestMichelle (guest): She touched so many lives – amazing how she started by herself and look at how her work has spread

Dec 20 2015, 7:49 PM

Carol Ann: it is amazing. I can’t wait to see the movie about her

Dec 20 2015, 7:49 PM

GuestMichelle (guest): Even to the point that a Muslim from India is excited

Dec 20 2015, 7:50 PM

Ruth (guest): And we certainly cannot be equally engaged with everyone; and when our own health issues or finances or even our generosity makes us into one of the poor, is there not a “balance” that has to be drawn between passionate engagement and going to a quiet, private place to be regenerated.

Dec 20 2015, 7:51 PM

GuestMichelle (guest): Yes, that is when we share in the ministry of the suffering Christ

Dec 20 2015, 7:51 PM

Carol Ann: yes, Ruth there is. We must draw our strength and peace from Christ and not expect it from the world

Dec 20 2015, 7:51 PM

Dawn L: Jesus went away from the crowds at times and prayed

Dec 20 2015, 7:52 PM

GuestMichelle (guest): And He was also helped by others during His walk to Calvary

:52 PM

Dawn L: I did offer prayers for the men and your ministry Brian. good to hear it was healing and full of love

Dec 20 2015, 7:53 PM

Ruth (guest): Of course, Mother Teresa’s gentleness and love were evident to all. You do not have to be Catholic or even Christian to appreciate that. Maybe only to recognize the SOURC

PM

VisitationSiste: Jesus!

Dec 20 2015, 7:53 PM

Guest1217 (guest): Important to take that quiet time with Jesus ! If we are burnt our we can’t Shine too anyone !

Dec 20 2015, 7:53 PM

VisitationSiste: He called her in a dramatic way as we are now beginning to learn

Dec 20 2015, 7:54 PM

Ruth (guest): Good observation Michelle. Even an unwilling “helper.”

PM

JenniferKOO (guest): Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above

Dec 20 2015, 7:56 PM

Ruth (guest): And the more we learn about the inner trials of Mother Teresa, the more evident the grace of God shines through her dedication.

Dec 20 2015, 7:56 PM

VisitationSiste: The Year of Mercy has made me very concious of mercy in every situation I encounter and pain when it has not been exercised

:56 PM

Guest1217 (guest): Thank You Dawn ! Amazing weekend !

Dec 20 2015, 7:57 PM

VisitationSiste: by myself or apparently in another- can never be sure about the other

PM

JenniferKOO (guest): There’s a lot I have to learn from all of you esp from Sister Susan.

Dec 20 2015, 7:58 PM

Ruth (guest): The last point you make, sister, is very important.

:59 PM

Guest1217 (guest): I believe that Mother Theresa’s Canonization will bring many too Christ in India and around the world !

Dec 20 2015, 7:59 PM

Lisa C: Mother, sometimes I think when we do not exercise mercy right away and then we realize that we have not, we still have a chance to go back and exercise it

Dec 20 2015, 7:59 PM

JenniferKOO (guest): Yes, I am blessed to come.

Dec 20 2015, 7:59 PM

VisitationSiste: Mother Teresa showed mercy even when she was ignored or disparaged

Dec 20 2015, 8:00 PM

VisitationSiste: Yes Lisa, and that also depends on the good will of the other to receive it I think

0 PM

Dawn L: sometimes, mercy must be spontaneous and quick

Dec 20 2015, 8:00 PM

Carol Ann: I think sometimes though, all we can do is pray from a distance

Dec 20 2015, 8:00 PM

Lisa C: Mother even if they will not I think God is happy that you try

PM

VisitationSiste: God has been merciful to each one of us

, 8:02 PM

Dawn L: merciful…more than I deserve! Amen

Dec 20 2015, 8:02 PM

Guest1217 (guest): Amen Sister ! 3 PM

Carol Ann: yes, me too

Dec 20 2015, 8:03 PM

VisitationSiste: Mother Teresa saw Jesus in each person and the more we let Christ be formed in us- the Heavenly Father looks at His Son within us

PM

VisitationSiste: Without His Mercy I would never be in the Monastery

Dec 20 2015, 8:04 PM

Ruth (guest): I was getting sick because my office was unheated the entire time I worked in Troy. It had two windows perpendicular to one another; when I measured the temperature with a thermometer it was 46 degrees one time, 41 degrees another. I complained, one time “too” many. A long, but quick, cascade of events had me out of a job on the recommendation of the office manager I complained to. I was glad that I had the job, but am relieved that it is over. I still pray for the patients, though. Have a bit harder

Dec 20 2015, 8:04 PM

VisitationSiste: So true Lisa!

Dec 20 2015, 8:05 PM

Lisa C: Correction I mean He is a parent He is not like a parent

Dec 20 2015, 8:05 PM

Carol Ann: Ruth, that is terrible

5 PM

Ruth (guest): time praying for the office manager who SWORE emphatically by her Grandmother and by God’s name to lies.

Dec 20 2015, 8:05 PM

Guest1217 (guest): One of the greatest acts of Mercy is to truly listen to others from the heart ! In listening others can feel the mercy of God and see the next step God wants them to take !

6 PM

Ruth (guest): I said, my yes, means yes, and my no means no. I choose to speak truthfully or not at all.

Dec 20 2015, 8:06 PM

Ruth (guest): Whooo! that only made things worse.

Dec 20 2015, 8:06 PM

VisitationSiste: A wonderful characteristic after the Heart of Jesus

PM

Carol Ann: Yes Brian, and without expecting to be heard in return

PM

VisitationSiste: Ruth, maybe He is leading you in a direction you never thought about seriously

Dec 20 2015, 8:14 PM

Guest1217 (guest): When the enemy comes in like a flood the spirit of The Lord shall raise up a standard against him ! Ruth God has a great opportunity for you to serve Him coming up just keep your eyes open to it !

Dec 20 2015, 8:14 PM

Ruth (guest): I’m not sure I understand, Carol Ann. It was so long ago that I chose to follow Him. And my life has always been a bit “bewegt” (German: sorta’ moving quickly, sometimes changing direction quickly but always in the same overall direction. . . )

Dec 20 2015, 8:15 PM

Carol Ann: It seems that since I signed up for “real” I have been in and out of more places than I can count

Dec 20 2015, 8:15 PM

Ruth (guest): That is part of the reason, too, I think, that I have trouble with the notion of metanoia (is that the word?) total transformation.

Dec 20 2015, 8:16 PM

Carol Ann: My director has me forever pondering, the birds of the sky have nests, and the foxes have lairs, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head

Dec 20 2015, 8:17 PM

Ruth (guest): He surely he wants us not just to be “tweeked” as Mathew Kelly would call it, but TRANSFORMED by his loving grace — by responding to it.

Dec 20 2015, 8:18 PM

JenniferKOO (guest): May be you can try “let God”. Do not work towards being good but surrender yourself to HIM

Dec 20 2015, 8:18 PM

Carol Ann: Yes, that is good advice, I am doing that every time I think of it!

Dec 20 2015, 8:18 PM

Guest1217 (guest): God has always done miraculous things through small acts of obedience !

Dec 20 2015, 8:19 PM

Lisa C: Some people lose faith with adversity and others cling to Him more and show their faith

Welcome to our Living Jesus Chat Room. Just sign in, using any of the methods below.

Dec 20 2015, 8:19 PM

Carol Ann: That’s something we’ve all experience first had I bet!

Dec 20 2015, 8:19 PM

Dawn L: yes, Lisa true!

Dec 20 2015, 8:19 PM

Ruth (guest): Jenn, you have it; that’s what it is all about!

PM

JenniferKOO (guest): I will pray for you.

Dec 20 2015, 8:20 PM

GuestMichelle (guest): We pray it “Thy will be done…., but it takes faith

, 8:20 PM

VisitationSiste: In a way we always need to be in a discernment mode

:21 PM

GuestMichelle (guest): And it helps when we reflect over the situations at the end of the day – to see where God was acting in our life.

Dec 20 2015, 8:21 PM

VisitationSiste: Life has these curves and the Lord knows is behind them but we can’t see around that curve

Dec 20 2015, 8:21 PM

Dawn L: a helpful insight Mother

2 PM

Lisa C: Bishop Barron said that it is like we have one paragraph from a giant masterpiece of a novel. All we can see is that one paragraph, but God wrote the wonderful book.

Dec 20 2015, 8:23 PM

Lisa C: We just have to wait to see the plot.

Dec 20 2015, 8:23 PM

JenniferKOO (guest): Thanks, everybody. Thank you, sister. I have to go to work. Might not be able to make it for the next two week, as I will be in mainland China. Will miss all of you. God bless.

Dec 20 2015, 8:23 PM

Lisa C: The paragraph looks like it makes no sense.

Dec 20 2015, 8:23 PM

Ruth (guest): I think you are right, Sister Susan. I was even questioning whether it was really his will that I go on line and Chat this evening when I have just one day to prepare for a trip to my nephew’s house (with his lovely wife Stefany and three children)– and tomorrow my cat needs to see the vet.

Our lasting Faith in Jesus through every adversity is what leads others to Christ ! That’s how Morher Theresa lived her life !

Dec 20 2015, 8:23 PM

Lisa C: Hi Sister Mary Roberta how is your Sister

Dec 20 2015, 8:23 PM

Dawn L: May God bless you Jennifer. Merry Christmas!

Dec 20 2015, 8:24 PM

VisitationSiste: Blessings and Merry Christmas Jennifer Stay in touch and bring Jesus to China

Dec 20 2015, 8:24 PM

VisitationSiste: Hi S Roberta

Dec 20 2015, 8:24 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: Hello! Sorry to be late, we were preparing the Mass for the Rededication of our chapel after our 1993 fire.

Dawn L: there are these little interior Calcutta’s everywhere, Carol Ann still pondering your insights

Dec 20 2015, 8:27 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: So you all decided to imitate Blessed Teresa of Calcutta, who will soon be St. Teresa?

PM

Mary Roberta Viano: I thought her insight was tremendous: Calcutta’s are all around us.

Dec 20 2015, 8:28 PM

Carol Ann: Yes, the more I find out about the aspects of her life she kept hidden, the more drawn I am to her. I may not be in the ghetto, but there are emough problems here to keep us all busy~

Dec 20 2015, 8:28 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: and in us!

Dec 20 2015, 8:29 PM

Ruth (guest): A tough time of the year to lose a spouse — any time would be tough, but especially during the holidays. She has my condolences and my prayers.

Dec 20 2015, 8:29 PM

GuestMichelle (guest): Yes, my prayers will be with her too.

:30 PM

VisitationSiste: Mother Teresa was a mystic but we did not know that I guess

Dec 20 2015, 8:30 PM

Ruth (guest): Sr. Susan, I like your image of the curves in the road.

Dec 20 2015, 8:30 PM

Carol Ann: no, I wonder why she never told anyone

Dec 20 2015, 8:30 PM

Lisa C: How do we know it now

Dec 20 2015, 8:31 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: I appreciate your prayers for her! Amazingly, despite the family’s lack of belief, they asked me to speak first at the funeral. So I focused on Psalm 100 in the light of my brother-in-law’s life.

Dec 20 2015, 8:31 PM

Guest1217 (guest): Humility

Dec 20 2015, 8:31 PM

VisitationSiste: The books and letters that are being published

2 PM

Ruth (guest): What do we mean by a mystic. Isn’t anyone who prays fervently, and LISTENS in prayer a mystic?

Dec 20 2015, 8:32 PM

Dawn L: Sr Mary…..I think people are drawn to God even if they do not reconize it for awhile

Dec 20 2015, 8:32 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: SFdS wrote to SJFdC, telling her to “embrace tribulations.” That’s what TofC did, for sure!

Dec 20 2015, 8:33 PM

Carol Ann: I remember reading that she never had the spiritual consolations usually associated with being a mystic, as though she was given one great light and then a very long dark night of the soul

Dec 20 2015, 8:33 PM

VisitationSiste: Yes Ruth- a visionary or one who sees what others don’t like an apparition- that’s what I mean

:34 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: I think she showed that faith is in the “doing,” not in the mystical experiences. It’s always a loving “hands on.”

VisitationSiste: Dear friends I need to go now. A most blessed Christmas to you!

Dec 20 2015, 8:35 PM

Carol Ann: Was it st Paul who said faith without works is dead>

Dec 20 2015, 8:35 PM

Ruth (guest): I think Fr. Barron — now Bishop Barron — believes that every devout person can be a mystic of some sort.

Dec 20 2015, 8:35 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: Blessed Christmas Season to all! Let’s stay close in prayer this season.

Dec 20 2015, 8:35 PM

Lisa C: James

Dec 20 2015, 8:35 PM

Carol Ann: Blessed Christmas Mother!

Dec 20 2015, 8:35 PM

GuestMichelle (guest): Good night and blessings to all

Dec 20 2015, 8:35 PM

Carol Ann: Thanks Lisa

Dec 20 2015, 8:35 PM

Mary Roberta Viano: Right, dear St. James – I’ll show you my faith in my works!

Dec 20 2015, 8:35 PM

Guest1217 (guest): Merry Christmas everyone ! Many prayers ! Love Brian

Dec 20 2015, 8:40 PM

Ruth (guest): Oh, Merry Christmas viewer! Good night.
