Christ died for us once-for-all, a redemption infiintely sufficient for the salvation of everyone. So then why must we focus on this idea of being “agents of the Lord’s healing presence to all those around us”?
How are we as Christians able to “put into identifiable action our profession of being a follow of Christ”?
What does it mean to “go out of ourselves”?
VisitationSister (guest): Today our priest had a good homily on basptism d i p i for identity p for power of the spirit but d i forget
Jan 10 2016, 7:20 PM
VisitationSister (guest): dip was the english word for the greek word for baptism
Jan 10 2016, 7:20 PM
VisitationSister (guest): but i forget what d stood for
VisitationSister (guest): I was baptized at one month old- this was a great grace for me
Jan 10 2016, 7:35 PM
Judy K: I have begun a new way of doing meditation. I am writing my thoughts and reflections since if I just try to reflect without writing I fall asleep. Writing seems to be helping. It takes longer before I start to nod off.
Jan 10 2016, 7:35 PM
Lisa C: Born Sept 28, baptized Oct 21
Jan 10 2016, 7:36 PM
Judy K: Born January 10th, baptized February 3rd.
PM
Dawn L: I also was baptized as infant and I wondered about difference, if any, of being baptized older
Jan 10 2016, 7:36 PM
Anne M: Nov 23rd, baptized Dec 15
Carol Ann: I was baptized first in hospital I’m told but I also have a certificate with another date
Jan 10 2016, 7:37 PM
VisitationSister (guest): When one is baptized as an adult one really appreciates it- several of our sisiers here were baptized as adults
Jan 10 2016, 7:37 PM
Lisa C: Margaret born Dec 17, baptized Dec 17 and then Dec 20
7 PM
Jan 10 2016, 7:38 PM
Lisa C: then Jan 20 not dec
Jan 10 2016, 7:38 PM
Lisa C: Told the second does not count
Jan 10 2016, 7:38 PM
Anne M: Yes Dawn, I wonder about that also. In scripture adults who converted to follow the Lord…
Jan 10 2016, 7:38 PM
Dawn L: Carol Ann, was there medical crisis why you were baptized in hospital
Jan 10 2016, 7:38 PM
Carol Ann: I was a preemie, in the equivalent of ice
Jan 10 2016, 7:39 PM
Lisa C: Sr. Mary de Sales baptized as an adult too
Jan 10 2016, 7:39 PM
Carol Ann: Ha, ICU spell check fails again
Jan 10 2016, 7:40 PM
Judy K: As a member of the RCIA team for about 13 years, I sometimes experienced a bit of envy for those being baptized at the Easter Vigil. They were aware of everything that was happening–the pouring of the water, making their own Baptismal vows, receiving the candle and the white garment. They are always so impress with the ceremonies of their Baptisms.
Jan 10 2016, 7:40 PM
Dawn L:
7:40 PM
Lisa C: I think having it as an infant if possible is better—feel protected41 PM
Dawn L: I agree Lisa
Jan 10 2016, 7:41 PM
Lisa C: I wanted my daughter baptized the day she was born so I did it
7:42 PM
Dawn L: Many grandmothers baptize. and I believe nurses in attendance during procedures or imminent death, baptize right there
Jan 10 2016, 7:42 PM
Lisa C: I also think being a God parent gives someone a special bond to a child
Jan 10 2016, 7:42 PM
Judy K: Yes, being baptized as an infant does have great advantages. We grow into the faith as we grow in maturity. And we learn slowly with time to digest what our precious faith means rather than squeezing it all into about 9 months.
Jan 10 2016, 7:43 PM
VisitationSister (guest): I think it is very interesting that a good handful of our Sisters here are converts-baptized later and then keep going to become nuns-
43 PM
Carol Ann: That is very interesting Sr. I wonder how many communities that is true for
Jan 10 2016, 7:44 PM
VisitationSister (guest): But living out our baptismal call- that is the challenge
Jan 10 2016, 7:44 PM
Lisa C: God calls people in different ways, through their parents or directly if their parents do not bring them to Him
Jan 10 2016, 7:44 PM
VisitationSister (guest): True in Georgetown too
44 PM
Judy K: Living out our Baptismal call involves “being agents of the Lord’s healing presence to all those around us.”
Jan 10 2016, 7:46 PM
Ann: Hello All. Sorry I’m late.
Jan 10 2016, 7:46 PM
Guest4286 (guest): Hi Lisa,Dawn,Anne , Carol Ann , and Sister Susan ! God Bless You Brian
VisitationSister (guest): no rebaptism for protestants
Jan 10 2016, 7:47 PM
Judy K: This involves living the spiritual and corporal works of mercy. The Lord has told us to go into the whole world and make disciples. That is a healing ministry, healing from sin and separation from God.
:47 PM
Judy K: This involves living the spiritual and corporal works of mercy. The Lord has told us to go into the whole world and make disciples. That is a healing ministry, healing from sin and separation from God.
Jan 10 2016, 7:48 PM
Lisa C: I think the Visitation charism of humility toward God and gentleness toward neighbor tells you how to live your Baptismal vows.
VisitationSister (guest): Putting that healing into practice involves courage’
PM
Guest4286 (guest): A lot of people feel or know God is calling them to do something and they don’t do it right away and sometimes never follow call ! Lets do what God is calling us to do everyday !
Jan 10 2016, 7:52 PM
Carol Ann: The chat roll keeps freezing
Jan 10 2016, 7:52 PM
Ann: Amen Brian!
Anne M: Yes, my screen is giving me a hard time and I also cannot see the names on the right.
Jan 10 2016, 7:52 PM
Guest4286 (guest): Hi Amy !
Jan 10 2016, 7:53 PM
Carol Ann: Hi Amy & Brian
Jan 10 2016, 7:53 PM
Amy Cochran: Hi carol I see familiar names on that list
Jan 10 2016, 7:54 PM
Dawn L: so even if we are weak, lack courage, all week I have repeated words from Sr Mary Roberta…surrender to God and he will do everything for you.
Jan 10 2016, 7:54 PM
Guest4286 (guest): God will always confirm a call to service but we must trust Him and move forward to that call of service !
Jan 10 2016, 7:54 PM
Judy K: It can be a challenge to live the Commandments. Living a life of service can also be a challenge. We can be misunderstood and even criticized for our attempts to serve others.
Jan 10 2016, 7:54 PM
Ann: Amen Judy. I have been.
Jan 10 2016, 7:55 PM
Dawn L: I believe we can expect persecution as our Lord says….
Jan 10 2016, 7:56 PM
Judy K: Even the life of prayer can be challenging–sticking to a routine, giving prayer its proper place and time in our lives.
Jan 10 2016, 7:56 PM
Amy Cochran: I agree. it is challenging to do service. you have to deal with other humans, and there certainly are turf wars
Jan 10 2016, 7:56 PM
Guest4286 (guest): That’s when we know we are doing God’s Will Jesus tells us to rejoice and be glad when they go after us for serving God !
Jan 10 2016, 7:56 PM
Carol Ann: I have been too. I suspect we all have
Jan 10 2016, 7:58 PM
Lisa C: is the chat frozen
Jan 10 2016, 7:58 PM
Guest4286 (guest): Amen Carol Ann ! This is such a great community I look forward to this time together with you all you really encourage my Faith !
Jan 10 2016, 7:58 PM
Dawn L: Amen…encouragement and faith here is a gift! like having thirst quenched, Jesus is here with us!
Jan 10 2016, 7:59 PM
Ann: Yes, this is a great and supportive community. I look forward to being here with all of you.
Jan 10 2016, 8:00 PM
Guest96 (guest): Hi Iam back its Sr Susan Got stuck
Jan 10 2016, 8:00 PM
Ann: Hello guest 96
Jan 10 2016, 8:00 PM
Carol Ann: I am glad I can be of some help. It is so good to be accepted
8:01 PM
Judy K: Question 2 deals with putting into identifiable action our profession of being a follower of Christ. We be come identifiable in performing acts of mercy–feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, giving drink to the thirsty, visiting the sick and imprisoned.
Jan 10 2016, 8:01 PM
Guest96 (guest): yes Judy is here somewhere
Jan 10 2016, 8:02 PM
Ann: Amen Judy! That is exactly how I answered that question too.
Jan 10 2016, 8:02 PM
Carol Ann: I seem to be more of a teacher
8:03 PM
Guest96 (guest): Being a follower of Christ is giving Him all of our lives and extending ourselves to others
Mary Roberta Viano: Hello!
Jan 10 2016, 8:03 PM
Guest4286 (guest): Amen Judy ! Do whatever God is putting on your heart to do ! The small things with great Love have deep impact also !
M
Dawn L: the small things, as St Therese spoke of and did8:04 PM
Judy K: It also involves the spiritual works of mercy–instructing the ignorant, counseling the doubtful, praying for the living and the dead–Yipes! I cannot remember all of them.1
Jan 10 2016, 8:04 PM
Guest96 (guest): forgiveness to the nth degree
Jan 10 2016, 8:04 PM
Carol Ann: Hi Sr Mary Roberta
PM
Mary Roberta Viano: I just finished watching the film “Unbroken” about the Olympian Louis Zamperini during WWII. He definitely lived his baptismal promises through all kinds of harrowing situations!
Jan 10 2016, 8:04 PM
Judy K: Hi Sister Mary Roberta!
6, 8:05 PM
Judy K: I think that burying the dead is another one. 8:05 PM
Carol Ann: Has anyone else seen War Room? Powerful Christian movie
Jan 10 2016, 8:06 PM
Mary Roberta Viano: Zamp, as he was known, even went to Japan to forgive his torturers.
8:06 PM
Guest4286 (guest): Without forgiveness we are in prison !
Jan 10 2016, 8:06 PM
Mary Roberta Viano: I’ll check it out, Carol Ann.
Jan 10 2016, 8:06 PM
Guest96 (guest): and so is the other party in unforgiveness
Jan 10 2016, 8:06 PM
Guest96 (guest): Did not hear of that movie
Jan 10 2016, 8:06 PM
Dawn L: that is the greatest act of mercy, to forgive others
8:07 PM
Amy Cochran: I agree, Dawn, and forgiveness from the heart is very difficult
Jan 10 2016, 8:07 PM
Mary Roberta Viano: Yes, we don’t realize how unforgiveness keeps us in a kind of strait jacket.
Jan 10 2016, 8:07 PM
Carol Ann: It gets even better when you realize that the war room is a prayer closet
Jan 10 2016, 8:07 PM
Guest4286 (guest): Carol Anne I heard it is agreat movie a friend told me he watched it three times and his wife was inspired to have a prayer room in her basement !
Jan 10 2016, 8:07 PM
Dawn L: Yes, it can be difficult!
Jan 10 2016, 8:07 PM
Guest96 (guest): In my experience I thin being able to forgive should be the litmus test for profession in a religious community
Jan 10 2016, 8:08 PM
Judy K: All of these actions necessitate going out of ourselves, that is putting our focus on others, and on the Lord rather than ourselves. I think of the words of John the Baptist “He must increase; I must decrease.”
Jan 10 2016, 8:08 PM
Dawn L: I heard War Room very good movie.
08 PM
Carol Ann: The war room is a prayer closet
Jan 10 2016, 8:08 PM
Mary Roberta Viano: for sure, 96! :08 PM
Ann: Amen, 96!
Jan 10 2016, 8:08 PM
Guest4286 (guest): Amen 96 !
Jan 10 2016, 8:08 PM
Mary Roberta Viano: Right, Judy!
Jan 10 2016, 8:08 PM
Amy Cochran: You are right, Judy. To totally forgive is to forget the ego and focus on Jesus
9 PM
Mary Roberta Viano: Can you imagine what it would be like in a world where everyone forgave everyone else freely – no war!
Jan 10 2016, 8:09 PM
Lisa C: Mother, how can you test that ability? I find that it can take time to forgive and different transgressions take different amounts of time to forgive; however, it is getting easier
Jan 10 2016, 8:09 PM
Amy Cochran: To not be able to forgive is because you may think too highly of yourself
PM
Carol Ann: It would be amazing what would we do with all that extra emotional energy?
Jan 10 2016, 8:10 PM
Guest96 (guest): different incidents in novitiate will give evidence
6, 8:10 PM
Guest4286 (guest): We hold back God’s hand when we do not forgive . It is helpful to study obstacles that are in way of us forgiving and to ask Jesus to remove those obstacles !
Jan 10 2016, 8:11 PM
Dawn L: As I became more aware of my need for forgiveness also awareness of needing to forgive others
Jan 10 2016, 8:11 PM
Mary Roberta Viano: aha, so 96 = Mother Susan Marie!
, 8:12 PM
Carol Ann: Yes, and we see how we often get in our own way
Jan 10 2016, 8:12 PM
Judy K: In some cases it may involve a great deal of inner healing, especially if one has been greatly hurt by another, such as having been raped or abused by another.
Jan 10 2016, 8:12 PM
Mary Roberta Viano: good multiples of the number 3 = 96 = the Trinity!
Jan 10 2016, 8:12 PM
Guest96 (guest): What happens is if a novice does not forgive and gets professed she is now a model of unforgiveness to the new discerners
Jan 10 2016, 8:12 PM
Ann: Amen, Judy!
:13 PM
Carol Ann: But sometimes the community is not aware of a hidden hurt or unforgiven essential and some have
Jan 10 2016, 8:13 PM
Guest4286 (guest): the first person we need to forgive is ourselves ! God has forgiven us ! Why would we insult Him by holding on to unforgiveness or bringing it back all the time !
Jan 10 2016, 8:13 PM
Lisa C: I cannot imagine that happening, Mother
Jan 10 2016, 8:13 PM
Judy K: Would everyone necessarily know that the novice is unforgiving?
Jan 10 2016, 8:13 PM
Carol Ann: An issue that makes it impossible forvthem, even when professed
Jan 10 2016, 8:14 PM
Mary Roberta Viano: and that kind of healing ends up feeling like becoming a totally different person, as we do when we come away from Confession
Jan 10 2016, 8:14 PM
Guest96 (guest): and no matter how you explain a professed sisters brokenness or bad experiences in life and slow growth somehow people don’t eaccept that in religioud i have seen
Jan 10 2016, 8:14 PM
Dawn L: so right, Brian!
PM
Amy Cochran: Not forgiving yourself is a form of self-love according to Catherine of sienna. To think yourself too important to accept God’s mercy
Jan 10 2016, 8:14 PM
Lisa C: Mother, wouldn’t it resolve itself in formation?
6, 8:15 PM
Mary Roberta Viano: I’ve seen that forgiveness equals openness towards everyone around me, which is the way to live the abundant life Christ promised us.
Jan 10 2016, 8:15 PM
Guest4286 (guest): Wow Amy that is soo true !
Jan 10 2016, 8:15 PM
Guest96 (guest): in an ideal world and depending on the depth of the damage formation presumes a well balanced person and often people are stilll working out issues
8:16 PM
Lisa C: Do you think current people are more damaged than people in the 1600s?
Jan 10 2016, 8:16 PM
Amy Cochran: I think issues never go away, but maybe how we can deal with them/
Jan 10 2016, 8:16 PM
Carol Ann: Who is not still working out issues? Even professed are working out issues
Jan 10 2016, 8:17 PM
Carol Ann: I am lucky to have a formation person who understands that
Jan 10 2016, 8:17 PM
Lisa C: Is formation the same as it was when StFdS and SJdC set it up?
Jan 10 2016, 8:17 PM
Amy Cochran: I think it’s how we deal with issues, chewing on them all day long or just turning them over to God
Jan 10 2016, 8:17 PM
Mary Roberta Viano: It does often seem that way, Carol Ann, but sometimes, I’ve discovered, it’s more a question of having a quirky personality!
19 PM
Carol Ann: We could chat offline later ? I agree with you, but things are not always what they seem
Jan 10 2016, 8:19 PM
Lisa C: How much of formation depends on grace?
Jan 10 2016, 8:19 PM
Guest4286 (guest): God gives us time and brings the right people and help into our lives at the right time to allow us to forgive soo that we are free to serve Him ! St Rita life shows us the power of foregiveness !
Jan 10 2016, 8:19 PM
Carol Ann: All of formation depends on grace
Jan 10 2016, 8:19 PM
Judy K: Yes, I think that there may be a greater degree of emotional damage now than in the 1600’s. I really do not know if there was the sexual abuse in the 1600’s that there is today, or verbal or emotional abuse.
Jan 10 2016, 8:20 PM
Lisa C: Carol Ann, I don’t know if all depends on grace alone or it would be perfect in everyone
Jan 10 2016, 8:20 PM
Amy Cochran: I think there is a great degree of emotional and verbal abuse out there now, much more than in the past
M
Mary Roberta Viano: Less was written about abuse back 400 years ago.
Jan 10 2016, 8:21 PM
Lisa C: Actually, it may be the same now as then, St. Margaret Mary was abused by her relatives and then by the Nuns who made fun of her
Jan 10 2016, 8:21 PM
Carol Ann: I always thought we will not be perfect on earth but perfected when our Lord brings us home
Jan 10 2016, 8:22 PM
Amy Cochran: I think persecution is part of the process to sainthood
Jan 10 2016, 8:22 PM
Dawn L: I believe the truly Holy perfected ones are not aware of being so
Jan 10 2016, 8:22 PM
Guest4286 (guest): I think that abuse was much worse in past this is first generation that it is being really approached . God has begun the healing in the church first . He always begins to deal with a huge problem in the church first !
Jan 10 2016, 8:22 PM
Carol Ann: Amy, it is out there in society as a whole, where cruelty and judgementalism are seen as honesty
Jan 10 2016, 8:22 PM
Amy Cochran: yes, tact and manners are forgotten a lot
Jan 10 2016, 8:23 PM
Carol Ann: I think you are right Dawn. No great saint thinks they are one
PM
Judy K: Not just suffering from abuse, but even other types of suffering. When I was going through treatment for cancer, I became much more understanding of others who have this disease.
Jan 10 2016, 8:26 PM

PM
Mary Roberta Viano: SFds said that and added that is was a simple duty to do that since Our Lord Himself had commanded it. (in his Deposition after his death)
Jan 10 2016, 8:24 PM
Guest4286 (guest): Amen Dawn !
Jan 10 2016, 8:24 PM
Amy Cochran: Romans 5:20
Jan 10 2016, 8:25 PM
Mary Roberta Viano: True, Dawn…there’s an innocence and purity and humility about those who are really good human beings.
Jan 10 2016, 8:25 PM
Judy K: Not just suffering from abuse, but even other types of suffering. When I was going through treatment for cancer, I became much more understanding of others who have this disease.
Jan 10 2016, 8:26
8:27 PM
Carol Ann: And also bring you someone you can comfort
Jan 10 2016, 8:27 PM
Dawn L: beautiful Carol Ann….ty!
Jan 10 2016, 8:27 PM
Amy Cochran: there are no coincidences with whom God puts in your path
Jan 10 2016, 8:27 PM
Jan 10 2016, 8:28 PM
Ann: I have found that to be very true, Amy.
Jan 10 2016, 8:28 PM
Guest4286 (guest): Others have come to our aide when we have needed it !What a great Family we have ! Praise God !
Jan 10 2016, 8:28 PM
Amy Cochran: Amen
016, 8:29 PM
Dawn L: so, in him bringing another close to you for comfort, is our call to act of mercy. not always aware of this in words, but in experience
Jan 10 2016, 8:30 PM
Mary Roberta Viano: Yes, suffering is helpful, and SFdS says going often to Confession is, too. By going “you will practice the virtues of humility, obedience, sincerity, and charity. In this one act of confession you shall exercise more virtues than in an other whatsoever.”
Jan 10 2016, 8:30 PM
Carol Ann: Yes, Dawn, and we can forget our own pain and just listen
Jan 10 2016, 8:30 PM
Guest4286 (guest): Future Doctors and Nurses !
Jan 10 2016, 8:30 PM
Mary Roberta Viano: any other whatsoever
Jan 10 2016, 8:31 PM
Amy Cochran: I can’t wait until one day when God brings it all about and opens up all the books and we can spend eternity seeing how everything is interconnected
Jan 10 2016, 8:31 PM
Lisa C: The sick children are a major cross for the parents.
1 PM
Mary Roberta Viano: children who are sick both physically and mentally
Jan 10 2016, 8:32 PM
Amy Cochran: I guess that’s something about the mystical body of Christ. we are all in this together
Jan 10 2016, 8:32 PM
Dawn L: it is all a mystery, Mother, thank you for reminder
Jan 10 2016, 8:32 PM
Judy K: The parents would often be willing to trade places with the children so that they would not suffer. They would rather suffer themselves than see their children suffer.
Jan 10 2016, 8:32 PM
Mary Roberta Viano: Let’s pray for one another as we move out of the Christmas Season and into Ordinary Time in the Church calendar!
PM
Guest4286 (guest): Amen Amy ! I always picture these beautiful portraits that God has been painting in our lives and the lives of others that we will be able to see and share about in Heaven one day !
Jan 10 2016, 8:33 PM
Carol Ann: Is it 5:30 already?
Jan 10 2016, 8:33 PM
Ann: Yes Sister Mary Roberta!
Jan 10 2016, 8:33 PM
Amy Cochran: yes, sister
Jan 10 2016, 8:33 PM
Mary Roberta Viano: Blessed Week One!
Jan 10 2016, 8:33 PM
Amy Cochran: its 8:30 here
Jan 10 2016, 8:33 PM
Ann: You too, Sister
Jan 10 2016, 8:33 PM
Mary Roberta Viano: G’night
