This year, 2016, marks the 400th anniversary of the publication of one of the two masterpiece works of St. Francis de Sales, the Treatise on the Love of God.
The book can be analyzed from many facets, scholarly, spiritual, historical and educational. It is a treasure trove of wisdom and taken in smaller bits, addresses many contemporary issues, with the “wisdom of the ages” and the spiritual genius of our Holy Founder.
We have quoted from this book on many occasions on this website, addressing contemporary or spiritual topics through quotes from the Treatise, such as:
St Francis de Sales on Our Lady of Sorrows
St Francis de Sales & 1st World day of prayer for Creation
Reflections on the Eucharist by St Francis de Sales –
The Spiritual Importance of BEAUTY
St. Francis de Sales’ Thoughts for Labor Day
Evangelization & St. Francis de Sales
St. Francis de Sales and Suffering
The Treatise on the Love of God is like a treasure chest of fine jewels or pearls that can feed our souls. To celebrate this 400th anniversary, we will quote weekly from this book, whetting our appetites to learn and absorb its wisdom, and remotely preparing for an educational series on the Treatise that the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales will be producing later this year.
In the Lenten and Easter seasons, appropriate passages will be selected to enhance prayer and the spiritual journey during these special holy times of the Church.
So we invite you to watch for these celebratory posts on the wisdom from the Treatise on the Love of God.
