We continue the excerpts from the Lenten reflections of Mother Philomene du Gasset of the Visitation Monastery of Nantes, France.

” We are entering the days which appeal to us to become absorbed in the sufferings of Our Lord. His Love is a love that cannot be measured. In Heaven alone we will be able to comprehend to what excess He has loved us. How grateful we should be for the love of Our Lord! As it was for us He suffered so much, we ought to have compassion for His sufferings.

For this purpose, renew your promises and ask His pardon. Our Lord calls us to correspond to His love, but we must understand what real love is. If we think it consists in words and feelings of tenderness, we are mistaken. True love manifests itslf and is proved by deeds.  It is a tree which must bear fruit. Love should work a transformation. Our Lord is infinitely worthy of the sacrifice we impose on ourselves.”
