Divine grace
However preciousĀ divine grace may be, it needs our cooperation to be effective; But we have the sad power ito resist it with sterility in our souls. Just as at the time of the year when nature smiles at the rays of the sun, we can deliver our souls to the fertile influences of heavenly grace! Grace, in a word, is a considerate, helping and loving God, leaning towards his humble creature with incomparable goodness, enlightening our intelligence, arousing our will, provoking our love, warning us, encouraging us, raising us up, and Consoling, rendering us, in a word, a thousand perpetual good offices under all forms as if God had only one solicitude: our supernatural formation, and only one passion: to make us happy!
First of all let us be attentive to what the Lord wants to tell us. Often the “sweet voice” of grace urges us first to be cautious, charitable, to retain a criticism, an impatience, a murmur, a curious glance, a bitter speech … Consent to this. Faithfulness to a first grace attracts a second and a third… The more we consent to grace, the easier it is for us to correspond to it. Such a person is called to devotion, another to zeal, the latter to hidden and silent life, another destined for suffering, and so on. Each one has a grace, a proper vocation , one must cultivate these particular furrows with jealous care. If we want to taste an anticipated bliss, say yes, simply yes, faithfully yes to grace.
Have we not already experienced an inner peace, a deep joy when it seemed to us to correspond to the will of God for us? Grace surrounds with an aureole the foreheads of those who are fully surrendered to its operation. Only one of these faithful souls is distinguished in the midst of a hundred others. The serenity shines on the features of the soul which is in perpetual communion with its God!
In this month of May, deigned toward the faithful Virgin, ask this divine Mother, whom we so often salute by “full of grace”, to obtain such a co-operation with divine inspirations and that for each of us this beautiful word of Origen, Father Of the Church, will apply: “Faithfulness to grace is the multiplication of grace!
