If October is the month dedicated to the Holy Rosary, it is also the month par excellence to rediscover the companion of the road that God has given us to walk with us during all our life. The words of Jesus, the teaching of the Doctors and the Saints, the authority of the Church, do not allow us to doubt their reality. According to St. Peter, it is consoling for us to think that God has given us defenders more numerous and powerful than the demons who continually assail us.
This is what our founder, Sister Mary of the Sacred Heart Bernaud reminds us of:
Devotion to the Guardian Angel
God is good ! Not only does He communicate his life to us through the sanctifying grace He gives us at baptism, but moreover He detaches from heavenly groups an angel chosen among a thousand whom he establishes with each one of us! This angel, inseparable companion of our soul, amiable and pure messenger of Heaven, is there to watch over her, to defend her from the snares. He has an affectionate solicitude for all that concerns our salvation, our perfection, our holiness, and even our temporal life, our health and our affairs!
Certainly we have hearts devoted to us (our parents, friends …) but no devotion is comparable to that of our guardian angel who attaches to our soul from our first moments of life, lightens, governs, follows her step by step until she enters the blessed eternity. We think of it alas very little! Let us respect his presence and allow neither thought, nor speech, nor attitude that could sadden or offend him. He is the representative of God to our souls.
St Francis de Sales always had in mind the thought of his Guardian Angel near him, he prayed, worked and recreated himself under his gaze. When he opened a door, he said deferentially: “Please go first, my angel! On the day St. Francis became a priest, his angel said to him: “It will be up to you now to pass first! ”
Finally, let us entrust ourselves to him in all the difficulties of life, he is our brother in heaven,. But it is especially when temptations shake our souls that we must solicit angels’ help. God has given us this companion especially to defend us from the assaults of the enemy’s tricks. Let us appeal to our Guardian Angel as soon as we feel the temptation touch our hearts and address this prayer which the Church taught: “Angel of God, I have been entrusted to you by divine Providence, deign to enlighten me, conduct and govern myself. ”
There are no small practices in the Christian life, that of devotion to the guardian angel is excellent and fruitful, let’s take advantage of this month to rediscover it!
