Oct 22, 7:22 PM

Judy (Guest): Hi Everyone! Happy Feast of Pope St. John Paul II! I cannot but recall the intensity on his face when he was praying. Holiness seemed to exude from him, even as it from St. Teresa of Calcutta.

Oct 22, 7:27 PM

Judy (Guest): Brian, where had you been living before?

Oct 22, 7:29 PM

Carol Ann: hi everyone!

Oct 22, 7:29 PM

Lisa C: Hi Carol Ann and Judy

Oct 22, 7:29 PM

Judy (Guest): Glad you are here Lisa and Carol Ann!

Oct 22, 7:30 PM

Carol Ann: how is everyone?

Oct 22, 7:31 PM

Judy (Guest): No complaint here. The weather has been truly beautiful for the past few days, but we are anticipating heavy rain on Tuesday, which we really need.

Oct 22, 7:32 PM

Carol Ann: We need the rain too, but will be receiving a heat wave instead

Oct 22, 7:34 PM

Judy (Guest): Let’s hit question 1. Augustine tells us that our hearts are restless until they rest in God. St. Francis tells us that as son as a creature finds what it desires, it quickly desires something new. God does not allow us to find rest except in Him.

Oct 22, 7:35 PM

Carol Ann: While what He has created is good, and for our good, it is not the end in itself. He is the beginning and the end

Oct 22, 7:36 PM

Judy (Guest): Isn’t it amazing that when we are spending quality time with God, nothing else seems to matter. Would that we could maintain that intensity of concentration on Him all through the day. We would never seek for anything else.

Oct 22, 7:36 PM

Lisa C: Hi Dawn

Oct 22, 7:36 PM

Judy (Guest): Hi Dawn!

Oct 22, 7:36 PM

Dawn (Guest): Hi Judy, Carol Ann, Lisa! is Brian joining us also? Hi Brian!

Oct 22, 7:36 PM

Carol Ann: Hi Dawn!

Oct 22, 7:37 PM

Carol Ann: Too true Judy. We are little children with very short attention spans, easily distracted. But we always go back to looking for that better thing

Oct 22, 7:38 PM

Judy (Guest): Brian put a note at the very beginning, but I do not see him as listed on line now.

Oct 22, 7:39 PM

Carol Ann: iw

Oct 22, 7:39 PM

Carol Ann: oops. i wonder where everyone is

Oct 22, 7:39 PM

Dawn (Guest): grasping and seeking at things, at people, to fullfil what I was truly thirsty for, this over time teaches our soul

Oct 22, 7:40 PM

Dawn (Guest): that is the restlessness Augustine speaks of. the first time I read his words I saw it!

Oct 22, 7:40 PM

Judy (Guest): If we could keep Augustine’s words in our minds, perhaps we would not go wandering all over the place searching for things that can never satisfy.

Oct 22, 7:42 PM

Dawn (Guest): much of my adult life was spent doing this....but now no more. as Bishop Barron says....We see things...we get things once the Holy SPirit comes to dwell in us

Oct 22, 7:43 PM

Judy (Guest): Perhaps the Lord is amused by our wandering. He must think,What is with them? Haven’t they gotten the message yet? How many ways must try to keep their attention.

Oct 22, 7:43 PM

Dawn (Guest): it is God who wants us!!

Oct 22, 7:43 PM

Carol Ann: Ad when we do get things, we are satisfied with what we have received, because it is exactly what we need

Oct 22, 7:43 PM

Dawn (Guest): yes, Carol Ann, so true

Oct 22, 7:45 PM

Carol Ann: It’s a different feeling, when i go get something for myself and when He gives it to me. Indescribable\

Oct 22, 7:45 PM

Dawn (Guest): just to clear my heart here, I pray Brian will join the group again. he adds so much

Oct 22, 7:46 PM

Judy (Guest): Now there are some words to ponder : it is God Who wants us! The Divine Creator of all things, Who is sufficient unto Himself, wants us. His love is so great that He wants to share it with us, not matter how many times we may stray from Him. He always calls us back.

Oct 22, 7:46 PM

Carol Ann: And Lisa. It looks like she is logged in, but she hasn’t spoken yet

Oct 22, 7:47 PM

Lisa C: I am here

Oct 22, 7:47 PM

Carol Ann: There you are!

Oct 22, 7:47 PM

Dawn (Guest): true reflection Judy, nice

Oct 22, 7:47 PM

Carol Ann: When I stop and think just how mighty, how Holy is He who calls, i can do nothing but tremble, and come

Oct 22, 7:48 PM

Judy (Guest): But when I think of how great His love is, I just want to run into His arms.

Oct 22, 7:48 PM

Lisa C: I was thinking about what you said about how God gives us what we need. I think that sometimes he gives us things because someone else needs something. For example a martyr does not need to die, but he or she dies to help Jesus with salvation and reparation

Oct 22, 7:49 PM

Carol Ann: Yes, both are true

Oct 22, 7:50 PM

Lisa C: *He

Oct 22, 7:53 PM

Dawn (Guest): so, this would be deeply surrendering to his will. not always something for us personally at all, we are called to die to self, but saying yes to being used for another perhaps greater thing. thinking about our Holy Mother Mary, how she said yes to his will, for the benefit of so much . it also meant suffering, she would suffer, her heart would be pierced....

Oct 22, 7:53 PM

Judy (Guest): St. Francis speaks of the restlessness of people. Se do see this restlessness in others who are endlessly seeking more money, a bigger house, a more expensive car, more expensive jewelry, a more upscale neighborhood, dinners at more exclusive restaurants. But this seeking never stops. We see it especially in actors musicians, sports figures, business giants. Nothing is ever enough for them.

Oct 22, 7:54 PM

Judy (Guest): At least for some of them. Some have discovered the Lord and have changed because of that.

Oct 22, 7:54 PM

Carol Ann: because the things of this world are fleeting, and what they have today must be improved upon (or so we are told) always bigger and better, or we have not made progress. Yet watch a celebrity grow in a real virtue, and everyone makes fun of them

Oct 22, 8:00 PM

Dawn (Guest): question 2, I reconize what others do, chase desire only because I did this myself for very long time.

Oct 22, 8:00 PM

Judy (Guest): Virtue in others is so beautiful to behold. If only more people sought after virtue instead of things, if they sought after the Lord, how much better our world would be. There would be less greed, less need to lord it over others, less need for power. That would be the beginning of peace in the world. Imagine a world where everyone was content with he had. Was not running around seeking to amass greater wealth, but rested with his present condition.

Oct 22, 8:00 PM

Carol Ann: and seeing ourselves in that perspective allows us to have compassion for the other

Oct 22, 8:03 PM

Dawn (Guest): yes Carol Ann! Judy, to imagine a world of love and mercy. I think about Brian mentioning how it is getting worse where he is and he asks for prayers...

Oct 22, 8:04 PM

Carol Ann: It is getting worse everywhere, with the hardening of our hearts toward each other in public discourse, and in our communities

Oct 22, 8:05 PM

Judy (Guest): What beautiful words from Psalm 100:Know that the LORD is God, He made us, we belong to Him, we are His poeple, the flock He shepherds. God made us; we belong to Him, we are His property, so to speak; and He cares for us as a shepherd cares for His flock. He provides for our needs directly, or provides the means by which we can obtain the things we need. Often it is by giving us emotional and physical strength to do the work that is ours, through which we earn our living.

Oct 22, 8:06 PM

Judy (Guest): He also provides for our spiritual needs through the Church which gives us the Bread of Life and bestows the mercy of god upon us.

Oct 22, 8:06 PM

Judy (Guest): Mercy of God.

Oct 22, 8:06 PM

Carol Ann: We say that every morning in the invitatory!

Oct 22, 8:12 PM

Carol Ann: I love question 4-so much depth there

Oct 22, 8:13 PM

Dawn (Guest): what comes to your heart on 4? anyone

Oct 22, 8:14 PM

Carol Ann: That God, who needs no one and nothing, created us to love Him back, and loves us created beings so much that Jesus died for us

Oct 22, 8:15 PM

Lisa C: The Catechism comes to mind

Oct 22, 8:16 PM

Judy (Guest): Yes! the old Baltimore Catechism answers this question for us: God made us to know Him, to love Him and to serve Him in this life so as to be happy with Him in eternity. In Psalm 139, we see that we are not arbitrarily made. The Psalmist says to the Lord: You formed my inmost being; you knit me in my mother’s womb. I praise you, because I am wonderfully made; wonderful are your works! My very self you know. My bones are not hidden from you.

Oct 22, 8:17 PM

Carol Ann: We are made for Him, by Him

Oct 22, 8:18 PM

Carol Ann: I know how i feel about the things I create-you want to nurture them and see them accepted as you intended. I can only imagine how He must feel

Oct 22, 8:19 PM

Dawn (Guest): beautiful

Oct 22, 8:19 PM

Judy (Guest): When I was being made in secret, fashioned in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw me unformed; in you book all are written down; my days were shaped before one came to be. We are not happenstance, not accidents of nature. Each of us is planned by Bod and formed in His image and likeness. He made us out of love and calls us to a love relationship with Him.

Oct 22, 8:20 PM

Judy (Guest): Planned by God

Oct 22, 8:22 PM

Judy (Guest): He knew us from the beginning of time, from before we were even conceived. He wanted us to be. He wanted to love us and wanted us to love Him. There can be nothing greater than that, nothing greater than to be loved by God.

Oct 22, 8:23 PM

Judy (Guest): And all of the hungers we experience are really hunger for Him.

Oct 22, 8:23 PM

Carol Ann: it is almost more than i can take in, but i know it’s true

Oct 22, 8:24 PM

Dawn (Guest): Love is our true destiny. We do not find the meaning of life by ourselves alone – we find it with another. thomas merton

Oct 22, 8:25 PM

Dawn (Guest): I think he means with another... is with God

Oct 22, 8:25 PM

Judy (Guest): While we need a certain healthy self-love, love must be shared with another.

Oct 22, 8:25 PM

Dawn (Guest): or does he mean in community, or family?

Oct 22, 8:25 PM

Guest6821srsusan (Guest): Hi I am in DC how is the chat tonite

Oct 22, 8:25 PM

Carol Ann: yes, without a healthy self-love, in humility, we have nothing we can really give to others. We do love, but it is hindered by our wounds

Oct 22, 8:26 PM

Dawn (Guest): Hi Mother!

Oct 22, 8:26 PM

Carol Ann: Hi Sr. Susan!

Oct 22, 8:26 PM

Judy (Guest): Hi Mother! It is chugging along.

Oct 22, 8:26 PM

Guest6821srsusan (Guest): Just got in I guess I can’t join in now but thanks for being there

Oct 22, 8:27 PM

Dawn (Guest): you are missed

Oct 22, 8:27 PM

Guest6821srsusan (Guest): took about six hours lots of traffic thanks Dawn I will read up later

Oct 22, 8:28 PM

Judy (Guest): I think Merton could mean all of the above.

Oct 22, 8:29 PM

Judy (Guest): To borrow a line from “The Sound of Music” love isn’t love until you give it away.

Oct 22, 8:29 PM

Dawn (Guest): Carol Ann, thinking about ...we do love but it is hindered by our wounds. many prayers for this, to be healed in all those places, by his grace

Oct 22, 8:30 PM

Carol Ann: sometimes too we love without knowing we are doing so (and thank you!)

Oct 22, 8:31 PM

Dawn (Guest): so is this not part of the process of growing in holiness? to allow his grace into our wounds to heal them.

Oct 22, 8:32 PM

Dawn (Guest): to let him love us

Oct 22, 8:32 PM

Carol Ann: oh, yes, it most definitely is, i just had an ancilllary thought

Oct 22, 8:32 PM

Judy (Guest): We are all what Henri Nouwen called wounded healers. Our woundedness may never be completely healed in this life, but we should continue to extend our healing love to others to help heal their woundedness. Just as their live helps to heal our woundedness.. And this does enable us to grow in holiness.

Oct 22, 8:33 PM

Judy (Guest): Their love helps to heal our woundedness.

Oct 22, 8:33 PM

Carol Ann: I think we lost Lisa and Sr. Susan

Oct 22, 8:34 PM

Judy (Guest): Love is like a dew that causes the rose buds to open up. Love helps us to open our hearts to receive all that the Lord has to give us

Oct 22, 8:35 PM

Dawn (Guest): your words are healing!

Oct 22, 8:35 PM

Judy (Guest): And to open our hearts to share that love with others.

Oct 22, 8:36 PM

Carol Ann: yes, the most gentle of rains, falling in just the right spots. Only Jesus could do it!

Oct 22, 8:37 PM

Carol Ann: my neighbor is here for our walk ( i promised her 5:30) so I must go. God Bless You!

Oct 22, 8:38 PM

Dawn (Guest): Amen. only Jesus could . and thank you for being here tonight.

Oct 22, 8:38 PM

Judy (Guest): Let us spend the week ahead being wounded healers for all those we meet. Let us embrace their sufferings and hopefully alleviate them. Praised be Jesus Christ now and forever.

Oct 22, 8:40 PM

Dawn (Guest): Amen. Praise be to Jesus Christ! a good focus Judy, thank you. Good night

Oct 22, 8:41 PM

Dawn (Guest): enjoy your walk Carol Ann! night
