What is the difference, as described in the video, between our own multiple actions, and the “unitary act of God”? Explain the comparison made in St. Francis’ analogy of the painter, on the one hand, and on the printmaker. The speaker in the video quotes St. Francis in saying that Divine Providence is that act “by which God wills to furnish men and angels with the means necessary or useful for attaining their end.” How is that different from the speaker’s point about “supernatural providence”? or): providence”? Our end is union with God. Consider St. Francis’ view, also that of Duns Scotus, that even if there were not a Fall, there would have been an incarnation. Why, do you think, that would have occurred? Francis holds that some people receive more graces than others. But all of us receive abundant graces to achieve salvation. How are we then to find our own way in building up the kingdom?Once again, Francis’ original text, which covers Chapters 1–8 of Book II, is at “That the Divine Perfection

Jennifer Koo: So happy to be here meeting all of you

Jan 14, 7:34 PM

Carol Ann: Many of my clients are in the slide area. Some are gone, including children, some are still missing, including children. Others, well, there are no landlines and their cells are ringing out of service. We had no internet, cable, or landlines from Tuesday to Friday. Tuesday we didn’t even have 4g. Cut off on both ends by slides. But now we are only blocked on one side.

Jan 14, 7:35 PM

Guest3515 (Guest): We are celebrating Lians Birthday 13th mine is on 22nd !

Jan 14, 7:35 PM

Carol Ann: Hello Mother!

Jan 14, 7:35 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Carol Anne, spiritually, what is happening amidst these mudslides How are people dealing with this and the loss

Jan 14, 7:36 PM

Carol Ann: Brian, that is great news

Jan 14, 7:36 PM

Jennifer Koo: So sorry to hear that, I will pray for you Carol

Jan 14, 7:36 PM

Judy (Guest): Well, I’m ready to hit the topic. Question 1 Our multiple actions, for example cleaning house include many actions: sweeping and washing the floors, dusting the furniture, washing the windows, putting things where they belong, doing laundry. So the one chore of cleaning the house involves a number of activities. God’s perfection, actions, are just one, but are so complex that we ust view them as many. Happy to see you Mother.

Jan 14, 7:37 PM

Judy (Guest): Mother, I would appreciate your thoughts about my responses to questions 3 and 4. I did not find the thoughts referred to in the questions and I need to know if I am on the right track.

Jan 14, 7:37 PM

SrSusan (Guest): God has as it were one eternal action, one Supreme Will

Jan 14, 7:37 PM

Guest3515 (Guest): Carol Ann we all love you and are praying for you through this horrific loss !

Jan 14, 7:37 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Ok Judy

Jan 14, 7:38 PM

Ruth (Guest): Hello everyone. So glad to see such a good turn out this evening. And especially pleased to see you, Carol Ann, with us. I was a bit worried, I admit. But that helped me pray all the more for your safety and for all those effected by the floods.

Jan 14, 7:38 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Hi Ruth and Lisa too

Jan 14, 7:38 PM

Judy (Guest): Hi Lisa and Ruth!

Jan 14, 7:38 PM

Dawn (Guest): Hi Ruth and Lisa!

Jan 14, 7:39 PM

Carol Ann: Thank you so much everyone for your prayers

Jan 14, 7:39 PM

Guest3515 (Guest): Hi Lisa and Ruth !

Jan 14, 7:39 PM

Lisa C: Hi All

Jan 14, 7:39 PM

SrSusan (Guest): God the Father breathed one Word and that is his Son But on earth is His humanity the son performed many actions

Jan 14, 7:40 PM

SrSusan (Guest): There is no time so to speak in eternity it is all One so actions are all One

Jan 14, 7:40 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Such a mystery

Jan 14, 7:41 PM

Carol Ann: That’s why we can pray for the past and the future as well as the present

Jan 14, 7:41 PM

Dawn (Guest): I appriecated StF analogy to the painter and the print press

Jan 14, 7:41 PM

SrSusan (Guest): How Dawn?

Jan 14, 7:42 PM

Jennifer Koo: We somehow could not understand fully about GOD because of our limitation. For example, people in my country were feeling cold and becoming sick as our temperature drop to below 72F for a few days. Could you understand? You might not able. We are a tropical country.

Jan 14, 7:42 PM

Judy (Guest): I forgot part of question 1. The painter, e.g. must use many strokes with various brushed andmay use other instruments in the “creating” of his masterpiece. The print maker simply puts a sheet upon a plate which bears the picture, and in a single stroke produces the same picture and may produce a number of them.

Jan 14, 7:43 PM

SrSusan (Guest): So when we imitate God in His actions it takes us many steps to His One step

Jan 14, 7:43 PM

Dawn (Guest): It created a clear picture for me, it was simple and clear. However you expanded on this...GOd breathed the Word, and his son performed many actions

Jan 14, 7:43 PM

SrSusan (Guest): St Francis used a good example even for today ,s technology!

Jan 14, 7:44 PM

Judy (Guest): It fits right in.Just put it in the copier.

Jan 14, 7:44 PM

Ruth (Guest): In the beginning God spoke – breathed the universe and us into existence

Jan 14, 7:44 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Yes!

Jan 14, 7:45 PM

Jennifer Koo: And Jesus took many years to perform

Jan 14, 7:45 PM

Guest3515 (Guest): When we are one with God we know what He wants us to do next !!!

Jan 14, 7:46 PM

Ruth (Guest): Yet the Word, Jesus as 2nd person of the Blessed Trinity, existed from the beginning, in all eternity, only his human Incarnation was in time/place.

Jan 14, 7:46 PM

Dawn (Guest): St F...we need to look at Gods action in this way~ many small acts, in fact God creates in one act. like the painter and the printerpress

Jan 14, 7:47 PM

Jennifer Koo: One act but complex and in detail

Jan 14, 7:48 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Great thoughts!

Jan 14, 7:48 PM

SrSusan (Guest): What about Providence?

Jan 14, 7:48 PM

Judy (Guest): Question 2 In Supernatural Providence, God furnishes man with what he needs to attain his end. Supernatural Providence also refers to the fact that redemption could only be attained in all the amorous actions and dolorous passions of His Son, including His death on the cross. Thus Jesus made Himself the companion of our miseries to make us afterwards companions of His glory.

Jan 14, 7:48 PM

Ruth (Guest): Brian, I hope that is what happened this afternoon when I spent practically the whole afternoon reworking an old poem I wrote many years ago instead of repairing my snow blower and trying to clear a new load of snow.

Jan 14, 7:49 PM

Guest3515 (Guest): When God asks us to do something it is one stroke of the brush in a larger painting that God is creating to reach out to countless souls to invite them back to Him !!!

Jan 14, 7:49 PM

Judy (Guest): His death reconquered for us all the means necessary to attain glory. Divine mercy is no wanting to anyone.

Jan 14, 7:50 PM

Judy (Guest): Divine mercy is not wanting to anyone.

Jan 14, 7:50 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Wee often think of providential occurrences in life, attributing them to God, all reminding us of His greatest act of Providence the Redemption

Jan 14, 7:50 PM

Guest3515 (Guest): Can you share that poem with us sometime Ruth !!!

Jan 14, 7:50 PM

SrSusan (Guest): His Mercy

Jan 14, 7:51 PM

Judy (Guest): I love the thought that Jesus made Himself companion to our miseries so that we might become companions to His glory.

Jan 14, 7:51 PM

Carroll V (Guest): Carol Ann, I keep thinking of the opening of book IV:All God’s works are ordained to the salvation of men and angels... and in Book V, the discussion of how God’s mercy “received vigour from its adversary’s presence.

Jan 14, 7:52 PM

Carol Ann: I think there is a real unseen battle going on out here, part of the large painting we are talking about

Jan 14, 7:53 PM

Ruth (Guest): Carroll V, I think that is why we sometimes refer to the fall (Adam and Eve) as “oh happy fault!

Jan 14, 7:53 PM

SrSusan (Guest): I suspect that is very true and with your spiritual sensitivity and years of faithfulness you may be able to see it clearly and help others to see it even simply by your prayer and awarness

Jan 14, 7:53 PM

Judy (Guest): Yes, the evil one is trying to rob some of the tools needed by the painter to complete his masterpiece.

Jan 14, 7:54 PM

Carroll V (Guest): Amen, Carol Ann... I’d never heard that before, Ruth- I like it!

Jan 14, 7:54 PM

Ruth (Guest): Indeed, Carol Ann. And we are like ants on the back of a tapestry/ painting/ trying to get an idea of what the whole thing is.

Jan 14, 7:54 PM

Carol Ann: Well it can’t have them

Jan 14, 7:54 PM

Dawn (Guest): Brian, good expressions

Jan 14, 7:54 PM

Lisa C: Yes, that is impossible

Jan 14, 7:55 PM

Jennifer Koo: The Via Dolorosa Experience (The Way of the Cross), Jesus’s passion and redemption, God sacrifices His only son for our salvation like Abraham.

Jan 14, 7:55 PM

SrSusan (Guest): The spiritual battle manifesting

Jan 14, 7:55 PM

Ruth (Guest): Carol Ann, I like your determination.

Jan 14, 7:55 PM

Lisa C: We will help win via the rosary

Jan 14, 7:56 PM

Carol Ann: The community is pulling together much more than ever before. Carpinteria has been spared twice in a month. The question, for what purpose?

Jan 14, 7:56 PM

Judy (Guest): Perhaps to help others.

Jan 14, 7:56 PM

Ruth (Guest): Tell us about Carpinteria.

Jan 14, 7:57 PM

Guest3515 (Guest): Jesus has won a glorious victory for us all ! That victory is for all ! All have an opportunity to accept Jesus the Son of God right up until their final breath ! My Mother told me a Priest in her community in England during bombings of WWII shared this message to all !

Jan 14, 7:59 PM

Dawn (Guest): there are no atheists in a foxhole “

Jan 14, 8:00 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Ah yes

Jan 14, 8:00 PM

Ruth (Guest): If that is so, it makes me wonder whether a person who is unconscious, but still breathing, can make choices. But maybe I am being too medical/precise in my consideration.

Jan 14, 8:00 PM

Carol Ann: We were nearly mowed down by the Thomas fire, but for 5000 very brave men on the line. As, soot, live embers flying around, pretty much choking on smoke, but the actual damage to homes here was minimal. And if the city hadn’t invested in extra large catch basins along the creeks, we would look like Montecito we’Re told. As it is, the creeks are deeper and wider and they are still shoveling them out

Jan 14, 8:00 PM

Ruth (Guest): Yes, Dawn. That is so!

Jan 14, 8:01 PM

Ruth (Guest): Still I think war is not good for people or other living things, and we’d do best to avoid it if at all possible.

Jan 14, 8:01 PM

SrSusan (Guest): So human cooperation as in the case of this town proves positive

Jan 14, 8:01 PM

Carol Ann: We are a small agricultural, tourist towns and wicked between the mountains and thevsea, mostly working class

Jan 14, 8:02 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Red the Incarnation St Francis truly was an optimist He believed Jesus would be Incarnate among us even if Adam and Eve had stayed innocent

Jan 14, 8:02 PM

Judy (Guest): Ruth, war us definitely not a good thing by any stretch of the imagination.

Jan 14, 8:03 PM

Guest3515 (Guest): Soo many Ruth have shared that when all even Doctors had thought they were brain dead or gone they were fully aware and able to hear and understand what was happening around them !

Jan 14, 8:03 PM

Lisa C: Adam and Eve were with God in the Garden

Jan 14, 8:03 PM

Ruth (Guest): I continue to be amazed by the bravery, and often enduring sacrifices of people who make no claim whatever to religious beliefs.

Jan 14, 8:03 PM

Jennifer Koo: I believe so, for God is always true and unchanging even if we failed.

Jan 14, 8:04 PM

Lisa C: Jesus was there if they were with God

Jan 14, 8:04 PM

Judy (Guest): Question 3 Even if there had been no fall, the incarnation would still have occurred to show the union of God and man, and jesus living among us would give us the example by which we need to live our lives.

Jan 14, 8:05 PM

Dawn (Guest): Was this St F thought only, or maybe I thought a broader understanding. Strict redemtion vs Gods Mercy...He dispenses the richness of goodness in His abundance.

Jan 14, 8:05 PM

SrSusan (Guest): We are made in His Image and Jesus Incarnate shows us the perfect Holy Model

Jan 14, 8:05 PM

Jennifer Koo: The incarnation is a blessing to our human race as God become both fully God and fully human

Jan 14, 8:05 PM

SrSusan (Guest): I think Duns Scotus had this theological perspective Dawn

Jan 14, 8:05 PM

Dawn (Guest): oh, thank you

Jan 14, 8:06 PM

Judy (Guest): I did not find any reference to Duns Scotus in the sections of the book we were to read.

Jan 14, 8:06 PM

Ruth (Guest): Brain, I experienced something like that when I was 17 and coming out of anesthesia – for a day or so – after lung surgery. I knew everything going on around me, but it was a long time before I could let my parents and my teacher know that I understood their asking “I wonder if she knows we are here? I managed to reach a hand in their direction.

Jan 14, 8:06 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Where did I see it Maybe on the video

Jan 14, 8:07 PM

Carroll V (Guest): Ruth, this is a bit off point, but, my understanding is that part of the msg of Divine Mercy was that at the moment the soul leaves the body (when one’s capacity for understanding is no longer limited), Jesus will appear and give someone another chance to say “yes” to His love

Jan 14, 8:07 PM

Judy (Guest): I didn’t think of that Mother. Maybe I will try to capture the video again and see if I can catch it.

Jan 14, 8:08 PM

Lisa C: It was in the video

Jan 14, 8:09 PM

Judy (Guest): My brain has not been functioning too well this week. I must have missed it.

Jan 14, 8:09 PM

SrSusan (Guest): These were theological questions and debates in those days I think

Jan 14, 8:09 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Are you feeling better Judy

Jan 14, 8:09 PM

Guest3515 (Guest): Remember the unbelief of Jesus’s home community when He went back to visit . We must battle with all our heart and soul to prevent that unbelief from spreading into our communities ! Jesus is the Son of God ! I know this with all my Heart !

Jan 14, 8:09 PM

Judy (Guest): I ma taking penicillin now and am kind of weak, still sniffling and deadly tired.

Jan 14, 8:10 PM

Guest3515 (Guest): Childlike Faith shatters all the delusions set forth by our enemy !

Jan 14, 8:10 PM

Dawn (Guest): a man , in a coma for a couple weeks, woke and looked at me trying to express something in quick words I could not understand, and then he died. I saw that he was aware at that precise moment

Jan 14, 8:10 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Divine Mercy yes St Faustina did say something like that Carroll

Jan 14, 8:10 PM

SrSusan (Guest): True Brian

Jan 14, 8:11 PM

Lisa C: Saint Gertrude the Great says the same thing about the moment of death and the ability to decide

Jan 14, 8:11 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Thanks did not know that Lisa

Jan 14, 8:11 PM

Ruth (Guest): How could anyone NOT say “Yes! to such a revelation – individual, and personal.

Jan 14, 8:12 PM

Carol Ann: I don’t know Ruth

Jan 14, 8:12 PM

Judy (Guest): Question 4 Because each of us receives different graces, there will be different paths we must walk, different actions we must perform in order to build up the Kingdom. We must study our own graces and study the world aroung us to see which graces might best be used for certain problems in the world.

Jan 14, 8:13 PM

SrSusan (Guest): The grace we receive is tied in to the Will of God for us too I think

Jan 14, 8:13 PM

Jennifer Koo: Yes

Jan 14, 8:13 PM

SrSusan (Guest): He gives us what we need for our mission

Jan 14, 8:13 PM

Dawn (Guest): Brian your zeal and love of our Lord is beautifully contagious! I can see why you are called to be ministering thru Karios !! ( sp )thank you!

Jan 14, 8:14 PM

SrSusan (Guest): I agree!!

Jan 14, 8:14 PM

Jennifer Koo: And all of us receive abundant graces to achieve salvation.

Jan 14, 8:14 PM

Judy (Guest): Resolution of these problems will bring about the growth of the Kingdom. For example, using the gift of agricultural knowledge to help bring about an end to hunger will lead to greater justice and therefore the peace attendant upon the Kingdom.

Jan 14, 8:15 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Each of us here share in a unique way with the special grace we receive

Jan 14, 8:15 PM

Ruth (Guest): Judy, Sister, that is what I find so amazing about “vocation. E.g., someone like Edith Stein, truly had and responded to a contemplative vocation.

Jan 14, 8:15 PM

Guest3515 (Guest): This Community is such an inspiration to me with tears I thank God for every one of you ! I Love You All ! God Bless You !!! Brian

Jan 14, 8:16 PM

Ruth (Guest): Brian, I agree with Dawn.

Jan 14, 8:16 PM

Judy (Guest): Ditto, Brian. Your work with the imprisoned is truly a gift to those in prison.

Jan 14, 8:17 PM

Ruth (Guest): When there was a daily Mass at St. Joe’s a local residential substance abuse treatment center, I often preferred to go there than to my local parish because it was just so REAL.

Jan 14, 8:17 PM

Judy (Guest): And an example of true charity to us.

Jan 14, 8:17 PM

SrSusan (Guest): You are each so real and amazing and faith filled!

Jan 14, 8:18 PM

Ruth (Guest): There is nothing like having felt you were “lost” or “worthless” and then having been affirmed by God’s love and mercy, to make a soul truly grateful . . .

Jan 14, 8:18 PM

SrSusan (Guest): A real spiritual community despite the electronics!

Jan 14, 8:18 PM

Carroll V (Guest): Wow, Brian, ...I have felt the same way,... even reading mid-week from a distance ...

Jan 14, 8:18 PM

Guest3515 (Guest): Jesus asked us to be one ! And you see that unity in all of us as a family together with our Lord Jesus now and Forever !!!

Jan 14, 8:18 PM

Judy (Guest): Thank God for the electronics which enable us to be in touch and to share our faith.

Jan 14, 8:19 PM

Dawn (Guest): I imagine so, Ruth. wonderful!

Jan 14, 8:19 PM

Guest3515 (Guest): Amen !!!

Jan 14, 8:19 PM

Ruth (Guest): Despite and partly because of electronics.

Jan 14, 8:19 PM

Carol Ann: We would never have found each other without electrinics, yet we are all called to do without them as much as possible. Glad we didn’t totally abstain

Jan 14, 8:20 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Yes computers put to their best use for the Lord and His people and upbuilding

Jan 14, 8:20 PM

Jennifer Koo: Even without the electronic, we are always in union. Like we are in union with the Saints though they lived in a time without the electronic

Jan 14, 8:20 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Yes mJennifer and from all over the world

Jan 14, 8:21 PM

Ruth (Guest): Formation for Ministry in this diocese – this two year class – is by computer internet during January and February. Travel is such a challenge.

Jan 14, 8:21 PM

Judy (Guest): True Jennifer. we are always in union in the Mystical Body of Christ, but it is the internet that enables us to actually communicate with each other.

Jan 14, 8:21 PM

Jennifer Koo: Agree

Jan 14, 8:22 PM

Dawn (Guest): Are you attending the class Ruth?

Jan 14, 8:22 PM

Ruth (Guest): And we have a board member of Our Lady of the Adirondacks House of Prayer who “attends” board meetings by Skyp. We may all meet in February by Skyp.

Jan 14, 8:22 PM

Lisa C: Think about how the Apostles spread the Gospel by traveling and sending letters with no technology and it went all over the world

Jan 14, 8:22 PM

Judy (Guest): Mother, did I catch the meaning of questions 3 & 4?

Jan 14, 8:23 PM

Jennifer Koo: But there is another form of communication, more superb than our manmade and with no limitation

Jan 14, 8:23 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Yes Judy

Jan 14, 8:23 PM

Judy (Guest): But that form of communication exists between us and God only.

Jan 14, 8:23 PM

Ruth (Guest): Yes, but only as an audit. I was commissioned by the Bishop of Ogdensburg after completing the two year course in 2007 – so in the cycle 12 years ago.

Jan 14, 8:23 PM

Dawn (Guest): Lisa, and yes this shows our sufficiency is from God alone!

Jan 14, 8:24 PM

SrSusan (Guest): I think the fourth question might have more to be said because often there is some level of jealousy or something like that re different graces given

Jan 14, 8:25 PM

Guest3515 (Guest): Amen Dawn !!!

Jan 14, 8:25 PM

SrSusan (Guest): But We have explored this well tonight

Jan 14, 8:25 PM

Dawn (Guest): that is great Ruth! internet classes anyone can attend

Jan 14, 8:25 PM

Carroll V (Guest): Would the graces we are talking about include different gifts of the Holy Spirit?

Jan 14, 8:25 PM

Ruth (Guest): The course has changed a lot since then, so I am happy to “do it over. And it usually meets in the school of St. Agnes, right after the Tuesday evening Mass, which I normally attend. No extra driving. When I took it the driving took two hours and was sometimes very, very risky.

Jan 14, 8:25 PM

Judy (Guest): I think that if each of us concentrated on our own gifts and how best to use them for the Kingdom, there would be less jealousy.

Jan 14, 8:25 PM

SrSusan (Guest): I think it could be extended that way CRroll

Jan 14, 8:25 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Carroll

Jan 14, 8:25 PM

Carol Ann: Or sometimes I see a certain amount of people thinking everyone’s graces are the same. It is this way for me, so it must be that way for you

Jan 14, 8:26 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Good point look for the uniqueness n each other

Jan 14, 8:27 PM

Judy (Guest): We should certainly not compare ourselves to others.

Jan 14, 8:27 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Work together in harmony as the Body of Christ

Jan 14, 8:28 PM

Judy (Guest): This demands selflessness.

Jan 14, 8:28 PM

Guest3515 (Guest): It is amazing how our gifts emerge when we truly Love God and Love each other !!!

Jan 14, 8:29 PM

Ruth (Guest): These students will complete in 2019. I don’t have to do the “papers. Regular participants are supported by their respective parishes; there’s a fee for the on-line part of the course. It’s on ecclesiology. I don’t get all the “stuff” they pass out, so I just found out this morning at breakfast at the “Pack Basket” local dinner – how to get to participate in the on line part. I’ll e-mail you later if you wish.

Jan 14, 8:30 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Sounds interesting

Jan 14, 8:30 PM

Carroll V (Guest): Mother Susan Marie: Thank you for the new series poa

Jan 14, 8:30 PM

SrSusan (Guest): May you each have a blessed week ! You are welcome!

Jan 14, 8:30 PM

Dawn (Guest): it does sound interesting, thank you yes an email

Jan 14, 8:31 PM
