From a Superior’s Talk:  “We must, to enter into the spirit of the Church, retrace in ourselves the Passion and Death of Jesus Christ, crucifying ourselves spiritually with Him on Mount Calvary and dying with Him by a perpetual mortification.  It is proper, says St Augustine, that being about to celebrate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, we should attach ourselves to His cross, repressing the repugnances of nature, which oppose the practice of virtue.

In this death constitutes the true life of our hearts. But what is the true life of our hearts? It is charity, it is this virtue which gives value to all and to our good works. It is the principle and end of them and will be their crown.”
