A Visitation Superior exhorted to her community of Sisters, “I am persuaded, dear Sisters, that your charities are occupied during this time of grace and salvation, in nourishing your faith and piety according to the spirit of the Church. Let us try to understand all it cost Jesus Christ to redeem us from eternal death, and we will understand what is required of us by such an excess of charity and incomprehensible goodness.
Let us study with serious application His designs in showing us such great mercy.
It is to destroy sin and to cause justice and sanctity to reign in us, that He immolated Himself upon the cross; this is the fruit He expects from His sufferings and death. The glory of God and our salvation require this double effect of His mediation.
What more important have we to do, during these holy days, than to enter seriously into ourselves, placing ourselves in a spirit of faith and religion, at the foot of the cross of Jesus Crucified, to study in Him all virtues, to acknowledge sincerely how far we are from them, to make strong resolutions and to commence a new life, worthy of God, a true copy of our Divine model.”
