Sister Susan Marie (Moderator): 1. What is the difference between making use of our will and making use of our faculties? Why is this distinction important?2. Stemming from this reflection, how might we describe the union the saints share with God in heaven? Do all these “rules” still apply?3. Jesus prayed to the Father that we be one as He and the Father are one (see John 17:21). How does our union as God’s people play a factor in our union with God? Does it matter? Does it effect our union with God and vice versa?4. Can you think of a t

May 31, 8:55 AM

Sister Susan Marie (Moderator): Can you think of a time in your life when God was drawing you close to him, but you were not aware of it? What brought this about, and what happened afterwards?

Ruth (Guest): Carol Ann, I’ll be with you in a few minutes.

Jun 3, 7:38 PM

Guest5731 (Guest): Hi Ruth , Carol Ann , Dawn , and Sister Susan ! God Bless You ! Brian

Jun 3, 7:38 PM

Carol Ann: Hi Dawn, Hi Guest. I wonder where everyone is tonight

Jun 3, 7:39 PM

Carol Ann: Oh, it’s you Brian! How was Kairos?

Jun 3, 7:39 PM

Dawn (Guest): Hi Ruth Brian Carol Ann ! and Sr Susan…are you here?

Jun 3, 7:41 PM

Guest5731 (Guest): Our meeting was awesome last Sunday Night our next retreat begins Thursday Night , all day Friday , all Day Saturday , and until 3pm Sunday . 32 Men have signed up . Please keep them in your prayers !

Jun 3, 7:42 PM

Dawn (Guest): This is wonderful Brian. The Holy Spirit moves

Jun 3, 7:43 PM

Guest5731 (Guest): Dawn the Ladies Retreat a couple weeks ago had 31 new ladies and was very special weekend of sharing !

Jun 3, 7:44 PM

Carol Ann: I wish the parishes were as vibrant!

Jun 3, 7:46 PM

Dawn (Guest): Im happy to hear this. sharing stories of how faith is growing is a big help. I was thinking the same Carol Ann.

Jun 3, 7:47 PM

Carol Ann: Maybe we have grown complacent?

Jun 3, 7:47 PM

Guest5731 (Guest): In our area we lost Soo much population that they have had to combine Parishes . Great opportunity to bring active members together .

Jun 3, 7:47 PM

Dawn (Guest): We could pray for a revival , an outpouring of the Holy Spirit

Jun 3, 7:48 PM

Ruth (Guest): Hello Dawn, Brian, Carol Ann. Sr. Susan wrote me that she will not be able to be with us on Chat tonight. A special Mass — Sacred Heart Novena Mass at this time. I’m sure she is including us in her intentions.

Jun 3, 7:48 PM

Dawn (Guest): thank you Ruth!

Jun 3, 7:49 PM

Guest5731 (Guest): Dawn I have been praying for an East Coast revival

Jun 3, 7:49 PM

Carol Ann: We sure need to pray for v one out here too

Jun 3, 7:50 PM

Ruth (Guest): Brian, when I moved here 18 years ago, there were FIVE churches/parishes within this area — not counting Lake Placid’s St. Agnes and the St. Joseph’s treatment center. Now we have just one church that has Masses

Jun 3, 7:50 PM

Guest5731 (Guest): Dear Jesus we pray that you would begin a revival

Jun 3, 7:51 PM

Dawn (Guest): Have many parishes back there today had a Eucharistic procession? common I think, it even suggests to do so following Mass in our Missal

Jun 3, 7:52 PM

Guest5731 (Guest): Throughout the United States of America !!! Guide us all in our service for You !!! Amen

Jun 3, 7:53 PM

Ruth (Guest): regularly once per day except none on Saturday morning and only one in the once per week on Sunday at 8 AM in the church nearest me. Three have become oratories, usually locked. I think the first to close will be sold soon, after over 100 years of serving as a church. It is the only one within walking distance of Paul Smith’s College campus.

Jun 3, 7:53 PM

Carol Ann: It was in our Missal too but I have never seen one, except for this last Holy zthursday at the Ventura Mission–they even blocked off strerts. Usually it’s just from the church to the temporary chapel

Jun 3, 7:54 PM

Guest5731 (Guest): I have not seen Eucharistic Procession but many of our Churches have Eucharistic Adoration!

Jun 3, 7:56 PM

Carol Ann: I have only seen procession once

Jun 3, 7:56 PM

Dawn (Guest): There is a new priest named Fr Zack Weber, I think he is in Michigan, and he called for a procession following Mass today. Also, scanning photos of the same in other countries where faith and love of God is open and vibrant.

Jun 3, 7:57 PM

Ruth (Guest): In Bavaria Eucharistic Processions were common on this feast day. Beautiful, respectful — whole villages involved. Even the city of Munich was decorated. I was missing that this morning.

Jun 3, 7:57 PM

Dawn (Guest): But there are parishes here in the US that are overflowing with parishioners!

Jun 3, 8:00 PM

Dawn (Guest): I only read about them, have not been to one

Jun 3, 8:00 PM

Guest5731 (Guest): We should put request in with our Bishops ! They have parades of every kind in all our Cities . This would be a great opportunity to bring all the Churches together in our Communities !

Jun 3, 8:00 PM

Ruth (Guest): I wanted to ask the Philipino priest who preached (well!) today about customs in his native land. And a couple of questions about his sermon, but he was very busy rough-housing with a few young boys.

Jun 3, 8:01 PM

Carol Ann: And a morale booster if everyone comes to see how many of us there really are

Jun 3, 8:01 PM

Dawn (Guest): Good idea Brian! would it be seperate requests or a group from the parish to write the Bishop?

Jun 3, 8:03 PM

Dawn (Guest): Our priest today, from Phillipines, asked us to pray for vocations, priests and nuns, from this country, from the US

Jun 3, 8:03 PM

Guest5731 (Guest): Not sure the best way to present this to Bishop ! Would be a wonderful Way to express our Love for Jesus publicly and Peacefully !!!

Jun 3, 8:04 PM

Ruth (Guest): I think this worked well in Bavaria because Bavaria is — at least nominally — Catholic. In the rural areas, it seem the Church is very much alive. In the cities, the percentage of regular church goers is very low, I understand — something like 17% of Catholics.

Jun 3, 8:04 PM

Dawn (Guest): he said those born here and live here…for us to pray for vocations

Jun 3, 8:04 PM

Carol Ann: And for older people too

Jun 3, 8:04 PM

Guest5731 (Guest): We had a special

Jun 3, 8:06 PM

Ruth (Guest): There is a government tax — about 2 or 3 % of one’s income — that is collected from people who declare their religion to be Catholic, Lutheran, or Jewish — and given directly to the Churches, so that the “collections” are just for incidentals — a few coins for flowers, e.g. — or for special needs.

Jun 3, 8:07 PM

Guest5731 (Guest): Good Friday Event at our Large Arena in Buffalo a couple years ago ! All denominations were represented and was beautiful event I would guess maybe 15000 people showed up !

Jun 3, 8:07 PM

Dawn (Guest): There is an Anglican church who bought the former Catholic church right here in town. Fr Brian has processions right down Main St, which is actually a state hwy. but either way, he has processions. I know they are not Catholic but it is still a beautiful thing for God

Jun 3, 8:08 PM

Dawn (Guest): I asked Fr brian to please come to the Roman rite, I said we need you! haha

Jun 3, 8:08 PM

Guest5731 (Guest): Amen Dawn ! How nice !

Jun 3, 8:08 PM

Carol Ann: Thst’s amazing

Jun 3, 8:09 PM

Dawn (Guest): Brian, who organized the Buffalo event?

Jun 3, 8:09 PM

Ruth (Guest): There is so much lack of unity over what the Eucharist is, that I am not sure that it would work well for Corpus Christi — but there could be other shared celebrations — at least regarding what Christians have in common.

Jun 3, 8:11 PM

Dawn (Guest): I agree Ruth, do not think Fr Brian did it today. but for other feasts and celebrations.

Jun 3, 8:12 PM

Carol Ann: I wonder at some of the things i’ve read where people say to take every single word in the Bible literally. Nowhere in the Bible does Jesus say this is just a symbol of my body. He says this IS my body. So where do they get only a symbol out of that?

Jun 3, 8:13 PM

Ruth (Guest): Not easy, though, since there have been law suits about things like putting up a nativity set on shared public lands. Separation of Church and State is an important value in our country. It is supposed to make freedom to worship as each pleases possible — but recent laws — e.g. requiring “health care” plans to include abortion have put a wrench in that. Still we have a legal system, broken though it is, that is better than most on this planet.

Jun 3, 8:13 PM

Guest5731 (Guest): Dawn , I am not sure but it was an interdenominational event ! I was able to attend last minute and it was very special ! To see the entire body of Christ Worshipping God together !

Jun 3, 8:14 PM

Dawn (Guest): Pope Francis in a news article was talking about “walking with” others. history Anglicans not uncommon for them to join a Catholic Mass or visa versa if there was not a priest for their church. so he says it is walking with others that they are drawn to the truth. viva papa francesco

Jun 3, 8:15 PM

Guest5731 (Guest): Has anyone seen Pope Francis Movie I have heard from friends it is awesome !

Jun 3, 8:15 PM

Ruth (Guest): Not I; I haven’t seen it. Would like to.

Jun 3, 8:16 PM

Carol Ann: Not yet

Jun 3, 8:17 PM

Ruth (Guest): And I guess we will have to have a do-over of today’s topic next week when Sr. Susan is back — and maybe Judy, who does so much to keep us on task.

Jun 3, 8:18 PM

Dawn (Guest): Sounds amazing Brian. Billy Grahams son is on a tour in California right now. He is drawing thousands! People are accepting Jesus as their Lord and Savior. He says we need a revival.

Jun 3, 8:18 PM

Carol Ann: Yes, it will give us more study time. But we are still topical. Just not on the chapter

Jun 3, 8:20 PM

Ruth (Guest): I found it interesting that SFdS distinguishes union with God, as in being in a state of Grace, from Union with God through Ecstasies. And that he distinguishes three kinds of “ecstasy” — the last of which we would not ordinarily call an ecstasy at all: simply DOING the work of God — charitable actions. All the Saints apparently had this third type in common, although the Ecstasy of the Will and the Ecstasy of Affections were not experienced by all of them.

Jun 3, 8:20 PM

Dawn (Guest): my computer is acting up

Jun 3, 8:21 PM

Dawn (Guest): Im back

Jun 3, 8:21 PM

Carol Ann: The closer we grow, the more there is to know!

Jun 3, 8:22 PM

Dawn (Guest): Ruth, that was well stated. I was having difficult time with the reading

Jun 3, 8:22 PM

Carol Ann: It is getting more dense as we go along

Jun 3, 8:23 PM

Dawn (Guest): Brian, you mentioned the Pope Francis movie. I hope to see it when possible. Praying many see it!

Jun 3, 8:24 PM

Guest5731 (Guest): Just talked to some missionaries who spent couple weeks in China . The Police followed them and they had to change underground churches they were visiting . When Police finally left them after couple days the first Church they visit the leader had a vision of foreigners being persecuted that would come to visit their church . When they arrived they were welcomed . Amazing Faith of the Chinese in the underground Church !!!

Jun 3, 8:24 PM

Ruth (Guest): I like how Bishop Barron points out that the atheist he’s talked with are, for the most part, not rejecting God, but only a distorted image of God.

Jun 3, 8:26 PM

Carol Ann: So much work to do spreading the true Gospel

Jun 3, 8:26 PM

Ruth (Guest): If only evangelization made it really clear what the truths of the Catholic Church are our churches might be FULL.

Jun 3, 8:26 PM

Dawn (Guest): I have the Catholicism series, fr barron. so very good. I think he talks about that in the series. I need to watch again

Jun 3, 8:27 PM

Carol Ann: I got an interesting post on the Orders Facebook page on evangelization this mirning. Does anyone mind if I link it?

Jun 3, 8:28 PM

Guest5731 (Guest): Dawn my friend who was an Aitheist and converted back to Catholic Church gave meet that series as a gift !!!Awesome !!!

Jun 3, 8:28 PM

Ruth (Guest): The Methodist Church two doors down from ours feeds about one hundred people every Wednesday night — for free. And the atmosphere there — both in the kitchen where the food is prepared, where the people eat and clean up afterward is so “mellow” — the word used by a young fellow who saw it as a “soup kitchen” and had experienced places where the police had to be called on a regular basis.

Jun 3, 8:30 PM

Guest5731 (Guest): Soo many people from Soo many denominations helped me to come back to Jesus and then eventually back to the Catholic Church ! Praise God !!!!

Jun 3, 8:32 PM

Dawn (Guest): How I understand the Holy Spirit works Brian , what a wonderful testimony!

Jun 3, 8:33 PM

Dawn (Guest): Praise Jesus Christ!

Jun 3, 8:33 PM

Carol Ann: All followers of Christ are His, no matter the denomination

Jun 3, 8:33 PM

Dawn (Guest): thank you for link Carol Ann

Jun 3, 8:34 PM

Dawn (Guest): Will enjoy reading it later!

Jun 3, 8:35 PM

Carol Ann: Oh good. John Micael also has daily reflection videos if anyone would like them

Jun 3, 8:35 PM

Ruth (Guest): Yes, Brian, I do praise God for all you do, and for your return to the Catholic Church. God’s USUAL way of working IS through people who try to listen to him and do and say what he urges. I am so glad that Vatican II recognized that the Holy Spirit is at work in many religions, that even though the Catholic Church has the “fullness” of the Truth about Jesus Christ, there are truth (and I note LIVED truths) among many, many others.

Jun 3, 8:35 PM

Guest5731 (Guest): Thank You Carol Ann ! Awesome !!!

Jun 3, 8:35 PM

Dawn (Guest): Ruth..about your post, thinking of what I heard someone say earlier…Jesus is everywhere!!

Jun 3, 8:37 PM

Guest5731 (Guest): We have a Great Family Ruth ! God has us all stationed in places He needs us to be to reach out to others for Him !!’

Jun 3, 8:38 PM

Ruth (Guest): I did some praying for the person who tried to disrupt this “chat” — not realizing that it was at a different time. One wonders how some people find their way here, but if what we share impacts them, the Lord be praised.

Jun 3, 8:38 PM

Guest5731 (Guest): Amen Ruth !!!!

Jun 3, 8:39 PM

Carol Ann: Amen! I am sure that will get cleaned up before our chat is archived.

Jun 3, 8:39 PM

Dawn (Guest): Amen!!

Jun 3, 8:40 PM

Ruth (Guest): Dawn, that must be why Jesus had to return to the Father, so that, His Spirit — the Holy Spirit — could be everywhere.

Jun 3, 8:40 PM

Guest5731 (Guest): God is reaching out to that person and He wants him to know how much he Loves Him !!!

Jun 3, 8:40 PM

Ruth (Guest): How heavy his early, human body must have felt when he was nailed to the cross!

Jun 3, 8:40 PM

Carol Ann: Because as man, it is not possible

Jun 3, 8:43 PM

Dawn (Guest): Yes. and for few days I have been envisioning Jesus drawing all people to himself. John 12:32 And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.”

Jun 3, 8:43 PM

Dawn (Guest): he is.

Jun 3, 8:44 PM

Carol Ann: Jew and gentile , men and women of every race, nation and tongue praising Him

Jun 3, 8:44 PM

Dawn (Guest): Amen. and we are to pray his will for us to do work

Jun 3, 8:47 PM

Guest5731 (Guest): I had a large group of clients out on van trip Friday to lower Niagara River . We had great time but before we left police arrived a Body was found in river . I was able to get everyone back to van without noticing . But I glanced over and could see the man shirt and jeans in water . Prayed for him and his family . Soo Dad I thought about Nary holding Jesus’s body when He came down from cross for us . I wish I could have helped this man some how !!! Let’s keep helping those around us everyday ! God Love You

Jun 3, 8:48 PM

Guest5731 (Guest): Soo Sad I thought about Mary holding Jesus

Jun 3, 8:48 PM

Carol Ann: Have a blessed week everyone!

Jun 3, 8:49 PM

Dawn (Guest): Amen Brian. Maybe these images come to us to quicken and help us grow! thank you for your encouragement and inspiration!

Jun 3, 8:49 PM

Ruth (Guest): Brian, perhaps I can get some tips from you about how best to show a beggar who is clearly lying about what he needs money for that he is LOVED by God, and because of God’s love, is loved by me, too. He comes repeatedly to our chapel with the same fake story about needing laundry detergent. I offered him laundry detergent I had in my car to do my own laundry, but it wasn’t the brand he claimed he needed. There is even a distribution of laundry detergent, shampoo, toilet paper and other household necessit

Jun 3, 8:50 PM

Dawn (Guest): sounds like a mystery Ruth.

Jun 3, 8:52 PM

Dawn (Guest): he wants something maybe besides laundry soap.

Jun 3, 8:52 PM

Ruth (Guest): ies at a local church (an ecumenical mission ) and this fellow already knew about it, when and where, “But that isn’t until Wednesday” he replied.

Jun 3, 8:56 PM

Ruth (Guest): Of course he does. And I gave him money — a big towel full of coins I collected, found on the ground, from just walking about town after the snow melted. I’ve been picking up coins for years, even though, now, with my hernia and arthritis, it becomes a bit of a challenge. There was a time when I had been robbed, and before I could get access to my bank account and various cards and IDs replaced I lived for two weeks on the coins I’d been saving in a yogurt cup from my walks.

Jun 3, 8:56 PM

Guest5731 (Guest): Just getting to know him like you are doing Ruth . Building a relationship will help brake down the walls that surround him . It’s tough Soo many people struggle with addictions . End of month is always tough everyone is broke ! Ask him his name and try to remember it ! This can really help !

Jun 3, 8:56 PM

Ruth (Guest): It was surely enough money to buy several packets of HIS brand of laundry detergent.

Jun 3, 9:00 PM

Ruth (Guest): Not long after that we were both at the Center for Independent Living watching a video about Access VR. (That’s a NYS program that can help people get trained or retrained for various jobs or pay for even college or, even professional examinations). He recognized me, I am sure, but even though he was directly across the table from me assiduously avoided eye contact. He did tell the fellow running the program that he wanted to go to college.

Jun 3, 9:02 PM

Ruth (Guest): Thanks, Brian. I’ll do that.

Jun 3, 9:05 PM

Guest5731 (Guest): Thats Great Ruth ! Pray for him to get the right resources to get back to school ! Setting small realistic goals can really get people headed in the right direction to reach the big goals . When people then get healthy they can become great leaders for Christ !!!

Jun 3, 9:08 PM

Ruth (Guest): I wasn’t sure whether or not that might embarrass him to ask him his name. I think he lives at Samaritan House — another good project run by a coalition of churches here — providing transitional housing for people who might otherwise be homeless. It is really nice, and does provide plenty of other services and things anyone might need. He even had a card to pay for the washing machine.

Jun 3, 9:13 PM

Guest5731 (Guest): Wonderful Ruth ! The more support people have the better they do no matter what level of functioning they are at ! I have seen some people who have been very low functions who are now helping people in Soo many ways while living independently in community . Never give up on anyone !!! Thank God Jesus never gave up on me !!!

Jun 3, 9:17 PM

Ruth (Guest): I’d better sign off; we are more than a half our overtime already. I appreciate your staying with me. Do have a good week. Sorry, Dawn, that I was on a different thread when you were telling about your vision related to John 12:32. So important! So beautiful. My recent experiences — even with Deacon Joe and the aftermath — left me a weird dream — I thought about the struggle to give glory to God in all things when each of us is so broken: in the dream I was struggling with the two words WORSHIP

Jun 3, 9:17 PM

Ruth (Guest): and WARSHIP. It was BOTH poignant and funny.

Jun 3, 9:22 PM

Dawn (Guest): this talk is what is beautiful!.was good to read along.. prayers for all, love for each. thank you and goodnight

Jun 3, 9:23 PM

Dawn (Guest): I would like to hear more about this…message

Jun 3, 9:23 PM

Ruth (Guest): Peace, my friend. I am doing better. And my cold is almost over, too. I was pleasantly surprised today that I was able to SING at Mass. Last night at Adoration I couldn’t stop coughing . . . Maybe it was the dust and pollen-filled air being blown in, up the narrow stairway, in an effort to improve the air quality. I slept well and long, and am looking forward to making this week more productive.

Jun 3, 9:24 PM

Ruth (Guest): Love, and prayers for you and the little grands.
