When we say that “love believes all things, what does this mean? Does it mean love is ignorant and gullible? Have you known anyone who is this devout? How does this devotion influence their character? Does this kind of devotion remind you of Jesus’ command that we must be like children to enter the kingdom of heaven? Jul 12, 11:21 AM

VisitationSiste: Why do you suppose spiritual experiences such as these cause a person to seize in death, and cause others to experience states of ecstasy? Even more important: Are those two scenarios really all that different?

Jul 15, 7:49 PM

VisitationSiste: First question: When we say that “love believes all things, what does this mean?

Jul 15, 7:50 PM

Ruth (Guest): Of course, but I think I am just since I am home again able to really get in touch with the feelings and memories. And now I am the only surviving family member of this generation and the one before me. My brother Peter was only 64 when he passed away unexpectedly from a ruptured abdominal aneurysm. We were actually on the phone with one another when it burst.

Jul 15, 7:50 PM

Carol Ann: oh Ruth!

Jul 15, 7:50 PM

Carol Ann: I think Sister, that it means to believe all things that are a matter of faith within the Church and the Gospel

Jul 15, 7:51 PM

Jennifer Koo: I am sorry for you, Ruth

Jul 15, 7:51 PM

Ruth (Guest): I don’t think it means that we are gullible. I think it means that we believe revealed truth and possibly because of this, if called to do so, will undertake even tasks that seem impossible.

Jul 15, 7:52 PM

Ruth (Guest): Thank You, Jennifer.

Jul 15, 7:52 PM

Ruth (Guest): Of course, trusting that God’s power will make up for our own weaknesses.

Jul 15, 7:52 PM

Dawn (Guest): A clear answer, one of the truth Ruth

Jul 15, 7:52 PM

VisitationSiste: and you have faced the impossible Ruth I imagine and you are full of courage!

Jul 15, 7:53 PM

Guest9336 (Guest): I am soo sorry Ruth !

Jul 15, 7:55 PM

Guest9336 (Guest): There is freedom and true understanding when there is Love !

Jul 15, 7:55 PM

Dawn (Guest): there were the three of you Ruth, two brothers now passed on, and you

Jul 15, 7:56 PM

Carol Ann: how hard it is to know you are the one to carry the light into the future

Jul 15, 7:56 PM

Ruth (Guest): I don’t know if you know, I lost my car keys and my wallet just before my brother passed away, train schedules were impossible, so I wound up having to drive a 20 year old rusting out pickup truck some 600 miles AFTER unloading (at the transfer station – no trash service here) the load of trash I had already on it covered with a tarp.

Jul 15, 7:56 PM

VisitationSiste: My goodness! But you succeeded

Jul 15, 7:57 PM

Carol Ann: that’s amazing. i think maybe you had some unseen help

Jul 15, 7:57 PM

Ruth (Guest): God was merciful. The truck, used to only short runs with heavy loads, ran like a happy puppy just freed from confinement – it even wagged its tail a little, but I got that problem under control by moving around 6 heavy cement blocks I’d put on it for traction in the winter.

Jul 15, 7:58 PM

Guest9336 (Guest): You never give up Ruth you just keep trusting God and continue on !!!

Jul 15, 7:58 PM

Dawn (Guest): AN answer to the question love believes all things, is what you did and as Mother said it is in the strenght or courage of Christ, it is his strenght that carries us

Jul 15, 7:59 PM

VisitationSiste: You trusted, yes!we must be like children to enter the kingdom of heaven

Jul 15, 7:59 PM

Ruth (Guest): Carol Ann, were it not for the “unseen help” I would have been dead long ago.

Jul 15, 7:59 PM

Carol Ann: because Christ will take care of us. I can relate to that statement, Ruth!

Jul 15, 7:59 PM

Guest9336 (Guest): God is Soo Good Ruth !!!

Jul 15, 8:00 PM

Dawn (Guest): what a good testimony Ruth

Jul 15, 8:01 PM

VisitationSiste: It is your true devotion as well

Jul 15, 8:01 PM

Jennifer Koo: GOD loves you and know what’s your need.

Jul 15, 8:02 PM

Guest9336 (Guest): Your Great Love for God Ruth is an Inspiration to us Alll !!!

Jul 15, 8:02 PM

Ruth (Guest): I try, and do what is necessary. I think my brother was like that in many ways – but he did not acknowledge God’s help. I learned, however, that he received the Sacraments just before he died and that is a consolation to me. Born to eternal life!

Jul 15, 8:02 PM

VisitationSiste: Praise God!

Jul 15, 8:03 PM

Guest9336 (Guest): Praise God !!!

Jul 15, 8:03 PM

Dawn (Guest): Praise God !

Jul 15, 8:03 PM

Jennifer Koo: GOD be praise!

Jul 15, 8:03 PM

Carol Ann: such a relief that is, Ruth. God knew his heart and made that happen

Jul 15, 8:03 PM

Dawn (Guest): yes...

Jul 15, 8:05 PM

VisitationSiste: Repeating the other questions: Does it mean love is ignorant and gullible? Have you known anyone who is this devout? How does this devotion influence their character? Does this kind of devotion remind you of Jesus’ command that we must be like children to enter the kingdom of heaven? When is it OK to be doubtful or suspicious of others? How do we reconcile this with being trustful and believing?

Jul 15, 8:06 PM

Ruth (Guest): I do not FEEL that my faith is strong; virtually NO NATURAL Faith. Maybe I am a little like Peter: To whom else shall we go? You have words of eternal life.

Jul 15, 8:07 PM

VisitationSiste: Faith of the will?

Jul 15, 8:08 PM

Guest9336 (Guest): Your Actions Ruth are a Demonstration of Great Faith to All !!!

Jul 15, 8:08 PM

Carol Ann: Sister, i think we must always be ready to forgive. There are those whose behavior proves their untrustworthiness, but we are called to forgive and keep helping them when others would walk away

Jul 15, 8:08 PM

Jennifer Koo: GOD is love that loves everyone unconditionally. The greatest commandments, to love GOD and others.

Jul 15, 8:09 PM

Dawn (Guest): on when is it ok to be doubtful or suspicious, I thought of todays Gospel where Jesus sent the discipes out in twos. and says if they do not welcome or they refuse to listen......but to shake off the dust as a sign to them. If Jesus wnated to leave a sign to them then he is not done with them...he always calls and loves.

Jul 15, 8:09 PM

VisitationSiste: I know a devout widow who inspired me to want what she had-God’s glow

Jul 15, 8:09 PM

VisitationSiste: Yes also to evaluate rather than judge

Jul 15, 8:09 PM

Jennifer Koo: I have been trying and practicing to love. A lot of time, we have to trust and see Jesus in others

Jul 15, 8:10 PM

Jennifer Koo: This is not easy in the beginning but by the grace of our LORD, we can do it

Jul 15, 8:11 PM

Guest9336 (Guest): Some people have lived through horrific abuse and we must be there for them through the long haul ! It takes time Love and Support to help some people to get to the place where they can finally forgive !!! Lots of Prayet !!!

Jul 15, 8:12 PM

Carol Ann: yes, and those scars can only be truly healed and removed by Christ

Jul 15, 8:12 PM

Ruth (Guest): I think my paternal grandmother had that kind of Faith. She – and the maternal grandmother, too – had only two years of schooling. Apparently there were times when the family had to deal with near starvation. I’ve seen pictures of my Dad looking like the kids in Biafra with sunken cheeks, skinny arms and a swollen belly. But she carried on, and even made her pastor jealous, saying,Some day I will get to a sick parishioner before you do!

Jul 15, 8:13 PM

Carol Ann: i’ll bet she did too!

Jul 15, 8:14 PM

Guest9336 (Guest): Prayer

Jul 15, 8:14 PM

VisitationSiste: Devotion leads to unselfishness

Jul 15, 8:16 PM

Dawn (Guest): because one is focused on other?

Jul 15, 8:16 PM

Ruth (Guest): You could not admire anything in her house without her giving it to you, so I learned NOT to express admiration.

Jul 15, 8:16 PM

VisitationSiste: Yes I believe so

Jul 15, 8:17 PM

Carol Ann: i would have felt guilty always receiving gifts too

Jul 15, 8:18 PM

Ruth (Guest): Yes, she was always there helping neighbors. And it was neighbors who help feed the family when there was nothing to eat. I have, only in recent years, seen letters expressing some of this.

Jul 15, 8:18 PM

Guest9336 (Guest): The more we Love God the more we begin to truly Love Others ! We begin to put others ahead of ourselves ! As Jesus did completely for all of us !

Jul 15, 8:18 PM

Dawn (Guest): What are (any ones) response to ...is it ok to be doubtful or suspicious of others?

Jul 15, 8:18 PM

Carol Ann: what a treasure you have found! we didn’t know much of our history either until we went through the boxes stashed away in a closet

Jul 15, 8:19 PM

Jennifer Koo: And this requires a lot of trust

Jul 15, 8:19 PM

VisitationSiste: I don’t think we can be suspicious but cautious if we feel something is not right

Jul 15, 8:19 PM

Carol Ann: I think it is okay, Dawn, as long as it does not lead us into being judgmental or unforgiving. We are to be sheep among wolves

Jul 15, 8:21 PM

VisitationSiste: Just mentioning again that I go into retreat Tues the 17th to the 24th so I probably won’t be here next Sunday

Jul 15, 8:21 PM

Dawn (Guest): thank you

Jul 15, 8:21 PM

Carol Ann: we will miss you Sister

Jul 15, 8:22 PM

Ruth (Guest): Cautious is a good word for it. But that is a lot like suspecting something untoward. One priest told me “It is fine to suspect (in that case, illegal drug dealing by a well-positioned person) but NOT to speak about.

Jul 15, 8:22 PM

Guest9336 (Guest): Childlike Love seems to disarm even the most difficult soul !

Jul 15, 8:23 PM

Carol Ann: that would be gossip i think Rith

Jul 15, 8:23 PM

Guest9336 (Guest): Have a Wonderful Retreat Sister Susan ! God Bless You !!!

Jul 15, 8:23 PM

Carol Ann: ooops, Ruth. my keyboard is goofy today

Jul 15, 8:24 PM

Dawn (Guest): silly keys

Jul 15, 8:24 PM

VisitationSiste: good point about gossip

Jul 15, 8:24 PM

Ruth (Guest): However, there are situations in which we MUST not only “suspect” but also speak about even a low level of suspicion – not gossip, but speak to the right person who can DO something to protect the innocent, e.g. when we suspect child abuse.

Jul 15, 8:24 PM

VisitationSiste: Yes- it is justice

Jul 15, 8:25 PM

Carol Ann: always discern our motive for speaking and to whom we would say the thing!

Jul 15, 8:26 PM

Jennifer Koo: I have to go now, I need to send food to some sick and homebound before going to work.

Jul 15, 8:27 PM

Dawn (Guest): glad you were here Jennifer. God bless

Jul 15, 8:27 PM

Carol Ann: Have a blessed week, Jennifer. We are so glad you joined us!

Jul 15, 8:27 PM

Ruth (Guest): Good work Jennifer. Thank you for joining us.

Jul 15, 8:27 PM

Jennifer Koo: Bye now

Jul 15, 8:28 PM

Guest9336 (Guest): Wonderful Jennifer ! You are a Great Blessing to All !

Jul 15, 8:28 PM

Ruth (Guest): Carol Ann, you made a couple of good points there.

Jul 15, 8:29 PM

Ruth (Guest): Examining our own motivation and carefully considering WHO to speak to.

Jul 15, 8:29 PM

VisitationSiste: Bye Jennifer! Good night to all and prayers for you on my retreat!

Jul 15, 8:29 PM

Carol Ann: Good night Sister!

Jul 15, 8:29 PM

Dawn (Guest): so in some situations it is even good if we are suspecting, perhaps we are the only one avail to do so. but discerning our heart and whom we speak to so important.

Jul 15, 8:29 PM

Carol Ann: that trick often slows me down, Ruth

Jul 15, 8:30 PM

Dawn (Guest): Goodnight Mother I hope for you a wonderful retreat and will look forward to your returning here

Jul 15, 8:31 PM

Ruth (Guest): Thank you, Sister. Good that you are able to go on retreat. There must be a lot of stress at this time – just about two months before Decision Day for the monastery. You and the sisters are in my prayers, too.

Jul 15, 8:31 PM

Guest9336 (Guest): Goodnight Sister ! Please pray for Maria our youngest daughter is traveling to Guetemala on Mission Trip July 27th for a week . It is her first visit back to her country and she will be working with impoverished children !

Jul 15, 8:32 PM

Carol Ann: we will pray too

Jul 15, 8:32 PM

Ruth (Guest): Carol Ann, it slows me down, too, sometimes far, far too much – choosing to think the best of another who has an evil intent . . .

Jul 15, 8:32 PM

Guest9336 (Guest): Thank You Carol Ann !

Jul 15, 8:33 PM

Dawn (Guest): Prayers for Maria

Jul 15, 8:33 PM

Carol Ann: That is the risk Ruth, and I get caught in that too. I’m slowly learning to ask Jesus how I should feel and what i should do

Jul 15, 8:33 PM

Guest9336 (Guest): Thank You Dawn !

Jul 15, 8:34 PM

Ruth (Guest): How precious, Brian. Good that she is with a mission group. That’ll probably give Maria a LOT to process during and after the trip.

Jul 15, 8:34 PM

Ruth (Guest): My prayers go with her.

Jul 15, 8:35 PM

Ruth (Guest): Yes, Carol Ann, sometime we may have to talk about that.

Jul 15, 8:35 PM

Guest9336 (Guest): Yes Ruth ! Maria is very Loving ! It will be a very emotional trip on many levels for her . Thank You All Soo much for your prayers !!!

Jul 15, 8:36 PM

Carol Ann: i tried to email you this last week, but i’m not sure you got it, because of being out of town. i have two addys for you and I’m not sure which is correct

Jul 15, 8:36 PM

Ruth (Guest): Good night, have a blessed week, all of you.

Jul 15, 8:37 PM

Dawn (Guest): Good night everyone, a blessed week to all, and you remain my prayers +

Jul 15, 8:37 PM

Carol Ann: good night Ruth, rest well

Jul 15, 8:37 PM

Guest9336 (Guest): God Bless You All ! Keep Shining for Our Lord Jesus !!!

Jul 15, 8:37 PM

Carol Ann: Have a blessed week Dawn & Brian

Jul 15, 8:38 PM

Dawn (Guest): Sr Susan, prayers for your retreat time. God bless you

Jul 15, 8:38 PM

Ruth (Guest): Sorry, Carol Ann, I AM way behind on e-mail. I did not have a working computer for some weeks.

Jul 15, 8:38 PM

Carol Ann: not to worry. i can be patient. sometimes...

Jul 15, 8:39 PM

Carol Ann: not my strongest virtue
