St.Pius X -Spiritual Father of the Visitation Nuns
Today is the Feast of St. Pope Pius X who led the Church at the beginning of the 20th Century.
He had a special regard for Visitation Nuns of Venice, encouraging them to move to Treviso and a great connection to the Visitation Order.
On November 24, 1894 he was appointed Patriarch of Venice, as Cardinal Giuseppe Sarto.
Upon arriving in Venice Cardinal Sarto chose to reveal his preference for the Visitation Monastery reserving to himself the office of spiritual father.
On the death of Pope Leo XIII, Cardinal Sarto went to Rome for the election of the new Pope. The Conclave elected as successor to Pope Leo the Patriarch of Venice, Giuseppe Sarto, who took the name of Pius X in the year 1903!
Even from Rome Pope Sarto became interested in the Monastery of the Visitation in Venice which now purchased land to move to Treviso.
Mons. Longhin wrote these reflections: “The church of Treviso can be piously proud to have given hospitality to a famous religious family … Our Visitation possesses a treasure that the entire Catholic world envies : the incorrupted heart of St. Francis de Sales
