The examples of the various saints and their beyond-ordinary inspirations and actions seem shocking. What do we make of these? Is Saint Francis telling us all to strive for this? Some of the examples might seem sinful at first glance. For example, the one who retreats to live in the desert; how is this a laudable practice when one has to forfeit fulfilling their Sunday Mass obligation? Saint Francis talks about people who often act as if they are following these extraordinary inspirations, but ins

VisitationSiste: but instead they are people lacking virtue and love. Where in our lives might we have been guilty of this in some form or another?
How can we counter the busyness and hectic schedules of our lives with the “peace and tranquility of the heart” that the saint speaks of? Do you find it surprising that the great men of God, such as Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses and Jacob were peaceable and mild-mannered men?

VisitationSiste: Those saints stories were very different but in the early days of the Church ascetics were more pronounced than they are today The examples seem unbelievable but they are not legends

Jan 20, 7:43 PM

Guest3099 (Guest): Thank you!

Jan 20, 7:43 PM

Guest265 (Guest): It is amazing how God calls us to Soo many different forms of Service . When we really know God and know what He wants us to do we just have to do it . We may never know totally in this life why ! But God always equips the called !!!

Jan 20, 7:44 PM

VisitationSiste: Yes archives will be available

Jan 20, 7:44 PM

Guest265 (Guest): He is always reaching out to somebody through what He asks us to do !!!

Jan 20, 7:45 PM

VisitationSiste: Hi Kristi

Jan 20, 7:45 PM

Guest3099 (Guest): Good Evening, Sister.

Jan 20, 7:45 PM

VisitationSiste: Inspirations- you must have had one tonight Kristi to join us!

Jan 20, 7:45 PM

Carroll (Guest): Oh Brian, I needed to be reminded of that- thx…

Jan 20, 7:45 PM

VisitationSiste: Good evening Guest 3099

Jan 20, 7:46 PM

Carol Ann: i found the other quiz. I love the new site

Jan 20, 7:46 PM

VisitationSiste: Each of us had one at one time to join the group. How did it happen?

Jan 20, 7:46 PM

VisitationSiste: Great Carol Ann

Jan 20, 7:46 PM

Guest3099 (Guest): I was reading the Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, by Fr. Croiset and yes. I remembered it was tomight!

Jan 20, 7:46 PM

VisitationSiste: I hope all has been saved

Jan 20, 7:46 PM

Guest265 (Guest): Hi Kristin and Guest 3099 ! God Bless You ! Brian

Jan 20, 7:46 PM

VisitationSiste: See an inspiration and that is a wonderful book

Jan 20, 7:47 PM

Ruth (Guest): Sister, I had a bit of trouble with the LOGIC of some of the passage. The THEREFORE, for example in,

Jan 20, 7:47 PM

Carroll (Guest): The “tricky” part is the discernment required when what we believe ourselves to be inspired to do seems too extreme to people in the “world.”

Jan 20, 7:47 PM

Guest3099 (Guest): Thanks, Brian.

Jan 20, 7:48 PM

Carroll (Guest): “Extreme” in the sense of sacrificial on behalf of another

Jan 20, 7:48 PM

Ruth (Guest): the last part of the first paragraph.

Jan 20, 7:49 PM

Carol Ann: because it seems to me that in all these examples the extraordinary inspiration done for the wrong reason would not be blameless

Jan 20, 7:49 PM

VisitationSiste: Ruth mite be the translation I see what you mean

Jan 20, 7:50 PM

Guest265 (Guest): When we had extroidinary obstacles in the adoption of our youngest daughter Maria . I asked the Lord in Prayer what I could do for Him in this situation . He

Jan 20, 7:50 PM

Ruth (Guest): So true, Carroll. I think I once told about the engineer who prayed for various government offices on the steps of those buildings and wound up in the psychiatric hospital in Munich.

Jan 20, 7:50 PM

VisitationSiste: Good point Carol Anne- I find first to get these examples to be acceptable to my mind takes a stretch- but St Francis de Sales told the truth- so they must be real

Jan 20, 7:51 PM

VisitationSiste: But even in the case of entering monastic life- that seemed way out to some people!

Jan 20, 7:51 PM

Carol Ann: there are so many stories of young women who disfigured themselves to avoid marriage and seek God.

Jan 20, 7:52 PM

Ruth (Guest): to some people.

Jan 20, 7:52 PM

Guest265 (Guest): Told me to be in Guatemala in one week !!! I Trusted God !!! We could write a book about what happened !!! In the end God used our Obediance to help many families and bring Maria home safe !!!! Praise God !!!

Jan 20, 7:52 PM

Ruth (Guest): I think it is USUALLY important to run “way out” ideas past another person who shares your belief system.

Jan 20, 7:53 PM

Carol Ann: that is a beautiful story. I would love to hear ore

Jan 20, 7:54 PM

Ruth (Guest): Praise God, Brian. And write the book! It’ll help other people who may be getting discouraged.

Jan 20, 7:54 PM

Carroll (Guest): Wow, Brian… and I agree, Ruth. That is one way spiritual direction can be very helpful.

Jan 20, 7:54 PM

Ruth (Guest): OR who are “tuned in” to discerning God’s will — not so stuck on rules.

Jan 20, 7:55 PM

Carol Ann: I agree Ruth, a second set of ears and eyes can help us to discern what is truly from GOd

Jan 20, 7:55 PM

VisitationSiste: As far as virtue goes can one truly be inspired for extraordianary actions and yet not be virtuous

Jan 20, 7:55 PM

Ruth (Guest): Of course!

Jan 20, 7:56 PM

Ruth (Guest): It depends on where the “inspiration” comes from.

Jan 20, 7:56 PM

Guest265 (Guest): What I think was really important was that in midst of our suffering I remembered to ask God what I could do to help Him !!!! Sometimes we can get Soo caught up in circumstances that we miss opportunities to Serve God in the midst of crisis !!!!

Jan 20, 7:56 PM

Ruth (Guest): There are even people who “pray” to Satan.

Jan 20, 7:57 PM

VisitationSiste: Hi jennifer

Jan 20, 7:57 PM

VisitationSiste: Jennifer

Jan 20, 7:57 PM

Carol Ann: Hi Jennifer!

Jan 20, 7:57 PM

Jennifer Koo: Hi MOTHER and all

Jan 20, 7:57 PM

VisitationSiste: What have been some of our inspirations- other than vocational

Jan 20, 7:58 PM

Guest265 (Guest): Hi Jennifer ! God Bless You ! Brian

Jan 20, 7:58 PM

Ruth (Guest): And there are lots of people who believe they are truly inspired but are “sick.”

Jan 20, 7:58 PM

Carol Ann: in my job I help everyone, rich or poor, all are alike and have the same need

Jan 20, 8:00 PM

Ruth (Guest): It’s a wonderful job you have Carol Ann. I was thinking about/ and praying for you and those you serve quite a lot this week because of the hard times the people in your area have already been through and the anticipated further flooding and possible mud slides.

Jan 20, 8:00 PM

Carroll (Guest): Sister Susan, I am not sure of the definition for “extraordinary,” but I have been inspired to take on work requiring a level of self sacrifice that is significantly outside the norm in our society. The context of my inspiration included a very genuine belief that doing so would help me grow in virtue…

Jan 20, 8:00 PM

Ruth (Guest): Hi Jennifer! How was your first week as a postulant?

Jan 20, 8:00 PM

Carol Ann: we had 7 inches of rain last week, some minor flooding….by comparison that is!

Jan 20, 8:01 PM

VisitationSiste: Beautiful Carroll

Jan 20, 8:01 PM

Guest265 (Guest): Soo True Ruth !!! It is soo difficult for people who have had Mental Health crisis related to their Faith . They are very very cautious when they get well to pursue their Faith! These people have the potential however to be Great Saints !!!

Jan 20, 8:02 PM

VisitationSiste: How can we counter the busyness and hectic schedules of our lives with the “peace and tranquility of the heart” that the saint speaks of?

Jan 20, 8:03 PM

Ruth (Guest): EVERYONE has the potential to become great saints. That’

Jan 20, 8:03 PM

Guest265 (Guest): Amen Ruth !!!

Jan 20, 8:03 PM

Jennifer Koo: ok, we are quite busy, ministries, classes with home works …

Jan 20, 8:03 PM

Ruth (Guest): s what God made us all for. And I believe I have seen saints lying on the floor of a State Psychiatric Hospital . . .

Jan 20, 8:04 PM

Guest265 (Guest): Amen Ruth !!!

Jan 20, 8:05 PM

VisitationSiste: Suffering makes saints

Jan 20, 8:05 PM

Ruth (Guest): But ORDINARILY, I think, saintliness has a lot to do with being WHOLE, spiritually and psychologically healthy — no matter what other challenges may be within a person, in a person’s history, or surrounding the person.

Jan 20, 8:06 PM

Carol Ann: the growth of devotion, holiness, virtue all lead toward integration of personality and union with God

Jan 20, 8:08 PM

VisitationSiste: So even if we do not do radical things like the examoples provided we can become saints by our interior radicality of living for God alone and loving one another

Jan 20, 8:08 PM

Ruth (Guest): True, sister, but it I am not at all sure that suffering should be sought “in order to be saintly.” And fortunately we have at least a few examples of people who became saints with, what seems to the rest of us, ease.

Jan 20, 8:08 PM

Ruth (Guest): So true Carol Ann.

Jan 20, 8:09 PM

Ruth (Guest): LOVE IS the important word there.

Jan 20, 8:09 PM

Guest265 (Guest): We have a disability Museum . One exhibit is of an attic that was found in old astate Hospital . It contained the bags of those who had been admitted to Hospital . They found in those bags all the hopes and dreams of those who never got a chance to fulfill them ! Today we have soo much more support for people with Mental Illness ! All their hopes and dreams can now be fulfilled and they can become Great Leaders for our Lord Jesus !!!!

Jan 20, 8:10 PM

Jennifer Koo: GOD did not will us to suffer, but to be ourselves, the true self that GOD made us to be

Jan 20, 8:10 PM

Carol Ann: the suffering He allows is meant to bring us closer to Him and teach us reliance on Him alone

Jan 20, 8:11 PM

Ruth (Guest): True, Jennifer. God wants us to be happy. Jesus, when approached by someone never said “Suffer.” And he usually cured the person.

Jan 20, 8:11 PM

VisitationSiste: Yes suffering with love- Srs of the Visitation are on Mount Calvary we are told in St Francis’ Treatise but Love is the most important

Jan 20, 8:13 PM

Ruth (Guest): I’ve often wondered why and how it came about that the Visitation Sisters became cloistered — no longer going out VISITING — as Mary did in haste when she learned that Elizabeth, her cousin, was pregnant./

Jan 20, 8:14 PM

Guest265 (Guest): Remember the miracles Jesus was able to do were very often within a Faithfilled Communitu . When Jesus went to His hometown their lack of belief prevented more healings from taking place !

Jan 20, 8:15 PM

Ruth (Guest): True, Brian, and he often credited those whom he did heal with “Your Faith has saved you!”

Jan 20, 8:15 PM

Guest265 (Guest): Community

Jan 20, 8:17 PM

Ruth (Guest): Yes, I always smile at how the “Community” even pulled the roof off of a house and lowered a person in need of healing into the place where Jesus was . . .

Jan 20, 8:17 PM

Guest265 (Guest): When we are able too build strong Communities that Trust God with our Whole Heart , Everyone gets a little bit closer to God !!!!

Jan 20, 8:18 PM

Ruth (Guest): Even today, in many “developing” countries we see people walking long distance carrying sick relatives to clinics.

Jan 20, 8:19 PM

Carol Ann: an act of selfless love we seldom see here, because it is hidden away in cars

Jan 20, 8:19 PM

Guest265 (Guest): My Favorite Ruth !!! That’s what God does in our Kairos Community !!!

Jan 20, 8:19 PM

Ruth (Guest): It certainly does seem to be easier to be Faith-filled in a Faith-filled community.

Jan 20, 8:20 PM

Guest265 (Guest): That’s why Jesus Stressed that we should be One !!! John Chapter 17

Jan 20, 8:22 PM

Guest265 (Guest): Our enemy is always trying to divide us . God is always trying to keep us together !

Jan 20, 8:22 PM

Ruth (Guest): One of the most powerful Lighthouse Catholic Media CDs I heard was about a whole village that resisted — during WWII Nazi occupation, I believe it was — life threatening and death wielding pressures — every occupant, standing together.

Jan 20, 8:24 PM

Carol Ann: the people of Denmark did it too, sneaking their entire Jewish population out of the country to safety overnight. The White Rose Society, the Polish underground, thousands resisted

Jan 20, 8:24 PM

Ruth (Guest): In our society it often feels awfully lonely when we try to stand up for the TRUTH.

Jan 20, 8:24 PM

Guest265 (Guest): Was able to attend March for Life couple years ago !!! What an encouragement to these young leaders !!! To be together with the Body of Christ , Marching for Life !!! Indescribable !!! Praise God !!!!

Jan 20, 8:25 PM

Ruth (Guest): White Rose? That’s what they called the siblings in Munich who passed out fliers and resisted the Nazi occupation.

Jan 20, 8:26 PM

Carol Ann: yes, and they were turned in and executed. there was a young Mormon boy who did the same thing. His story is told in the book The Boy Who Dared

Jan 20, 8:26 PM

Carol Ann: The March for Life requires great courage as it is counter to the more politically correct Women’s March

Jan 20, 8:26 PM

Guest265 (Guest): Pray for the Church in China !!! Unbelievable Persecution !!!! But they are bringing Millions to Christ !!!

Jan 20, 8:27 PM

Ruth (Guest): Geschwister Scholl Platz is the name of the Place — with two fountains — in front of the main University of Munich buildings. The film about them is called, in English, “The White Rose.”

Jan 20, 8:27 PM

VisitationSiste: Someone came to my room here- sorry! Ruth we became cloistered when we had our first new monastery in France, after Annecy that Bishop insisteed and Srt Francis after discussion said yes felt it was the will of God

Jan 20, 8:28 PM

VisitationSiste: and Bishop Bougaud said it was necessary in the end becaUSE of the mission of the Sacred Heart

Jan 20, 8:28 PM

VisitationSiste: to be adored in the sanctuary of every Visitation Monastery

Jan 20, 8:28 PM

VisitationSiste: that’s a brief history for sure!

Jan 20, 8:30 PM

VisitationSiste: it is in this book- someplace https://books.google.com/books?id=BAfkPUaFj7gC&printsec=frontcover&dq=bishop+bougaud+and+st+margaret+mary&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiYzNjk3P3fAhWoT98KHaYfCOUQ6AEIKjAA#v=onepage&q=bishop%20bougaud%20and%20st%20margaret%20mary&f=false

Ruth (Guest): and not just in Annecy in the 17th century, but in perpetuum?

Jan 20, 8:31 PM

Carroll (Guest): Thank you for that link, Sister!

Jan 20, 8:31 PM

Carol Ann: Thank you Sister!

Jan 20, 8:31 PM

Guest265 (Guest): Heard a great story from Women’s March . A group of Monks opened the doors to Monastery for the ladies to use bathrooms . Literally hundreds of ladies were helped because there were not enough bathrooms at their march . They left generous donations in appreciation for the Monks help !!!

Jan 20, 8:31 PM

VisitationSiste: Here it is exactly: https://books.google.com/books?id=BAfkPUaFj7gC&printsec=frontcover&dq=bishop+bougaud+and+st+margaret+mary&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiYzNjk3P3fAhWoT98KHaYfCOUQ6AEIKjAA#v=onepage&q=bishop%20bougaud%20and%20st%20margaret%20mary&f=false

Jan 20, 8:32 PM

Ruth (Guest): Thank you sister!

Jan 20, 8:32 PM

VisitationSiste: no I mean page 142 in the link is the chapter about Ruth’s question

Jan 20, 8:33 PM

Guest3099 (Guest): Sister, how does the Visitation Sister in Minneapolis, differ?

Jan 20, 8:33 PM

VisitationSiste: They serve the poor

Jan 20, 8:33 PM

VisitationSiste: DO not know,” said St. Francis de Sales in his own gracious style, “why they call me the founder, for I have not done what I wished; in fact, I have done just what I did not wish.”‘The Visitation, such as it came from the hands of St. Francis de Sales in 1615, is indeed something very different from what he had at first projected. Every step in the organization of his work was marked by some obstacle invincible and unforeseen, which forced him to modify his plans, and sweetly impelled him to form his religi

Jan 20, 8:33 PM

VisitationSiste: sample above

Jan 20, 8:34 PM

Guest265 (Guest): God is Soo Good !!!

Jan 20, 8:35 PM

VisitationSiste: Minneapolis has a special mission to be a presence to the poor

Jan 20, 8:35 PM

Guest265 (Guest): His alterations are always perfect !!!!

Jan 20, 8:35 PM

Ruth (Guest): Travel during the time that Mary went to Elizabeth was difficult. And there were, I think, Roman troops and other hostile forces all around. I often wonder whether or not she had an accompaniment — perhaps Joseph.

Jan 20, 8:35 PM

Guest3099 (Guest): Thanks, Sister.

Jan 20, 8:35 PM

VisitationSiste: If you read that chapter things will be clear

Jan 20, 8:35 PM

Carol Ann: it would seem odd to go alone, a young woman like that

Jan 20, 8:36 PM

Ruth (Guest): Your comment, Sister, does show his humility.

Jan 20, 8:36 PM

Guest3099 (Guest): I read the book, a later version.

Jan 20, 8:36 PM

Ruth (Guest): Thank you!

Jan 20, 8:36 PM

Guest265 (Guest): Probably a Million Angels were with Mary on that trip Ruth !!!

Jan 20, 8:36 PM

VisitationSiste: Yes and his yielding- also he based the beginnings on what St Jane had been doing as a widow which was visiting the sick and poor

Jan 20, 8:36 PM

VisitationSiste: I have to leave now Blessings to all!

Jan 20, 8:37 PM

Guest3099 (Guest): God Bless, Sister.

Jan 20, 8:37 PM

Jennifer Koo: Good night

Jan 20, 8:37 PM

Carol Ann: Thank you so much, Sister, God Bless

Jan 20, 8:37 PM

Ruth (Guest): God bless YOU sister, and all your sisters.

Jan 20, 8:38 PM

Guest265 (Guest): God Bless You All !!! Brian

Jan 20, 8:38 PM

Ruth (Guest): We are missing Dawn and Judy — regulars. I hope they are OK.

Jan 20, 8:38 PM

Carroll (Guest): Good night everybody. Thank you all for being here, again. Blessings!

Jan 20, 8:38 PM

Ruth (Guest): Good night Carroll.

Jan 20, 8:38 PM

Carol Ann: Good night, Carroll, see you next week!

Jan 20, 8:39 PM

Carol Ann: I haven’t heard from Dawn, nor have i heard bad news about weather from up North

Jan 20, 8:39 PM

Ruth (Guest): And Jennifer, Carol Ann, and viewers.

Jan 20, 8:39 PM

Jennifer Koo: Lot’s of snow here

Jan 20, 8:40 PM

Ruth (Guest): I still need to check my e-mail. Have been rather neglecting it in order to get some household work done.

Jan 20, 8:41 PM

Ruth (Guest): Looks like we had about 16 inches of new snow since last night.

Jan 20, 8:41 PM

Ruth (Guest): It’s a little like I’ve gone off to a “desert!” Couldn’t get to Mass lately.

Jan 20, 8:43 PM

Jennifer Koo: I am lucky to have mass at home in the Monastery

Jan 20, 8:45 PM

Ruth (Guest): It’s in the single digits below freezing F here right now, and supposed to go down to the teens or low twenties below zero F tonight. In the past we’ve even had 40 below zero for several days in a row. Saranac Lake is often the coldest spot on the map of the US, including Alaska!

Jan 20, 8:45 PM

Ruth (Guest): You are, indeed Jennifer.

Jan 20, 8:46 PM

Jennifer Koo: It’s very cold here too

Jan 20, 8:50 PM

Ruth (Guest): There was a time when I was scheduled to be lector at the Catholic Church nearest here. There was a blinding snowstorm, so I criss-crossed my chest and back with reflective tape and walked the two mile stretch uphill — having to literally dive over a plow pile on the side of the road to keep from being hit by a car driven in a blind white-out! When I got to the church the door was locked and there was a sign on the door, “Mass cancelled for today.” I had to walk home again. I try less hard these days.

Jan 20, 8:52 PM

Ruth (Guest): I figure I’m getting a little old for that, and God is truly present in THIS house, too, just not in the same way, not in the Eucharist.

Jan 20, 8:55 PM

Ruth (Guest): She messaged me on FB that she sent me a long e-mail, but I haven’t had a chance to check it yet. Last weekend she anticipated being home-bound by snowstorms. We’ve been getting for the last 28 hours or so the “weather” that the rest of the country had earlier this week.

Jan 20, 8:57 PM

Ruth (Guest): Good night Jennifer and viewers. Have a wonderful week. And may God forgive me, Jennifer, if I am a little jealous of you living under one roof with HIM!
