Let’s consider this Gospel story about the man whom Jesus called, who wanted to first go and bury his father. Is Jesus saying that we shouldn’t bother burying our loved ones?
2. Saint Francis uses this story to explain the type of love that we should offer to God (a love that is exclusive and dedicated). What can we do to improve at this and attain this spiritual goal?
3. Saint Francis describes this total love as only truly exemplified in the Blessed Virgin Mary. If this is so, why does he go to such le

: why does he go to such lengths to convince us that this is the way we should follow? Is it pointless to encourage people do something that no one but the Blessed Virgin can fully achieve?
4. In the last two paragraphs, St. Francis says that even great saints can at times produce “grievous venial sins” and “fruitless fruits.” Why does St. Francis bring this up? Does this diminish our motivation to imitate the saints? Or does it make it easier to strive for holiness knowing that they fail too?

Jul 7, 7:33 PM

VisitationSiste: I guess we can begin- already a group here!

Jul 7, 7:33 PM

Carroll (Guest): This is likely just a quick ” hello,”

Jul 7, 7:33 PM

VisitationSiste: ok! Glad for that too!

Jul 7, 7:34 PM

Carroll (Guest): Elisabeth needs my full attention now. God bless you all.

VisitationSiste: Sounds like all went so well- we miss you-glad you are here

Jul 7, 7:35 PM

VisitationSiste: Q1 Let’s consider this Gospel story about the man whom Jesus called, who wanted to first go and bury his father. Is Jesus saying that we shouldn’t bother burying our loved ones?

Jul 7, 7:36 PM

Guest1770 (Guest): God Bless You and Elizabeth !!!

Jul 7, 7:39 PM

Guest4591 (Guest): HELLO EVERYONE. It looks like I a guest 4591 tonight. Ruth

Jul 7, 7:39 PM

Alice (Guest): This is a tough one. I am not sure what Our Lord means

Jul 7, 7:39 PM

VisitationSiste: Hi Ruth!

Jul 7, 7:40 PM

Guest1770 (Guest): Jesus is teaching us that we must put our relationship with Him first . Soo many recieve a call from Jesus to take on vocation but they put their family , or fear , or anything they can in front of answering Gods call on their life !!! We must always be available to Jesus !!!!

Jul 7, 7:40 PM

VisitationSiste: I think the quote impies that the man’s father was not yet dead and he was going to wait until he died and buried him before he followed Jesus anyway tythats how I interpret it so he was delaying hs vocation so to speak

Jul 7, 7:41 PM

Alice (Guest): Oh! Okay.

Jul 7, 7:42 PM

VisitationSiste: any body else for this one?

Jul 7, 7:42 PM

Guest4591 (Guest): Yes Sister, that is the explanation I’ve heard of the passage, too.

Jul 7, 7:43 PM

VisitationSiste: q2 Saint Francis uses this story to explain the type of love that we should offer to God (a love that is exclusive and dedicated). What can we do to improve at this and attain this spiritual goal?

Jul 7, 7:43 PM

Guest4591 (Guest): Jesus sometimes uses hyperbole to make a point. It sounds much harsher in the passage or translation where he says, “Let the dead bury the dead; you come and follow me.”

Jul 7, 7:44 PM

Guest1770 (Guest): We often share with Kairos Friends the people we never would have met over the years had we not responded to Gods call to volunteer in Prison .

Jul 7, 7:45 PM

VisitationSiste: If the father was not a believer his soul so to speak is “dead”, is that it do you think?

Jul 7, 7:46 PM

Guest4591 (Guest): Kairos is starting around here. I attended the intro. But they will only be working with men, and like Cursillo, the team is always same sex.

Jul 7, 7:46 PM

Guest1770 (Guest): We must take the time to listen to God with our whole heart ! We are in the midst of a cruel war for souls and we must be able to respond to our Leader Jesus’s Call !!!

Jul 7, 7:47 PM

Guest4591 (Guest): No, Sister, I don’t think so, although that is an interesting idea.

Jul 7, 7:48 PM

VisitationSiste: so true Brian- a real war- that is for sure!

Jul 7, 7:50 PM

VisitationSiste: To attain a dedicated and deep love for God- I think one way is to spend time in being present with our awareness of God’s Presence

Jul 7, 7:50 PM

Guest1770 (Guest): Our Kairos Group at Wende has several Ladies who assist us on Outside Support Team and our Ladies Kairos at Albion has several Men who are on Outside Support Team . Outside and Inside Teams are critical to Kairos Weekend !

Jul 7, 7:52 PM

Alice (Guest): Practicing the presence of God. I like that answer be Sister.

Jul 7, 7:52 PM

VisitationSiste: Is it Brother Lawrence who wrote about the Presence of God?

Jul 7, 7:53 PM

Alice (Guest): Yes

Jul 7, 7:53 PM

Guest1770 (Guest): Soo True Sister ! I try too talk to Him throughout the day and be aware of what He wants me to do . Distractions can come at us Soo quickly or soo subtlety !!!

Jul 7, 7:54 PM

Alice (Guest): Fr Jean de Caussade talked about it too

Jul 7, 7:55 PM

VisitationSiste: which book, do you know

Jul 7, 7:55 PM

Guest4591 (Guest): Yes. It was so hard when I first came here because nearby churches were either always locked or on unannounced, unpredictable schedules; I could walk four miles or drive fourteen only to stand before locked doors. I still want to be in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament but the Lord was training me to “see” Him EVERYWHERE. I am grateful for that.

Jul 7, 7:55 PM

Alice (Guest): Abandonment to Divine Providence.

Jul 7, 7:56 PM

Alice (Guest): Although some question whether or not he wrote it

Jul 7, 7:57 PM

Guest1770 (Guest): Daily Mass really helps a lot !!! Soo thankful we have early Masses before work around me . Wonderful Community of People who attend Daily Mass !!!

Jul 7, 7:57 PM

VisitationSiste: Thank you!

Jul 7, 7:58 PM

VisitationSiste: Yes Jesus is within us

Jul 7, 7:58 PM

Guest1770 (Guest): Soo Beautiful and True Ruth !!!

Jul 7, 7:59 PM

VisitationSiste: The Blessed Mother was most present to her Son. I think she helps us grow ever closer to Him when we grow closer to her

Jul 7, 7:59 PM

Guest4591 (Guest): I’m distracted tonight. Messages on cell phone come through sporadically. I looked up an article that would have “fit” in the earlier thread, but not here. Perhaps later as an addendum.

Jul 7, 7:59 PM

VisitationSiste: you can put it in here if you want

Jul 7, 8:01 PM

Guest4591 (Guest): Marian spirituality is kind of new to MY spirituality, maybe in the last ten years or so. How glad I am, even as an adult, to have a Mama who wants the best for me — to love her Son and walk in his ways.

Jul 7, 8:01 PM

Guest1770 (Guest): Amen Ruth !!!

Jul 7, 8:02 PM

Guest4591 (Guest): And to give me an example of HOW.

Jul 7, 8:02 PM

VisitationSiste: yES!

Jul 7, 8:04 PM

Guest1770 (Guest): Mary Teaches us Too never ever give up on God !!!

Jul 7, 8:05 PM

VisitationSiste: sHE LOVES HER sON TOTALLY BUT SHE LOVES US so much and God continually sends her to us

Jul 7, 8:06 PM

Guest1770 (Guest): Amen Sister Susan!!!

Jul 7, 8:06 PM

VisitationSiste: We learn about love from our MOTHER MARY

Jul 7, 8:07 PM

Alice (Guest): πŸ™‚

Jul 7, 8:07 PM

VisitationSiste: We keep growing and Mother Mary watches over our growth.

Jul 7, 8:07 PM

Guest1770 (Guest): Soo True Sister Susan !!!! True Love !!!! AGAPE !!!

Jul 7, 8:08 PM

VisitationSiste: Have any of you ever been to a Marian shrine?

Jul 7, 8:08 PM

Guest4591 (Guest): The article is about the “war” Brian mentions — in an extended meaning. “Modernity.” Here’s a link: https://www.thepublicdiscourse.com/2019/01/48024/?fbclid=IwAR21_DH3tpsZ6wQUf-derWsOnD5PTR9PGUQv55pqbHVvsnHqKkrfd_th2vw

Jul 7, 8:08 PM

Guest1770 (Guest): Thank You Ruth !!!

Jul 7, 8:10 PM

Alice (Guest): I went to the shrine of Our Lady of Snows in Belleville Illinois years ago

Jul 7, 8:12 PM

VisitationSiste: Ruth will take time with this! Looks deep

Jul 7, 8:12 PM

VisitationSiste: How was that shrine Alice

Jul 7, 8:12 PM

VisitationSiste: I went to Medjugorje in 1987

Jul 7, 8:12 PM

Guest4591 (Guest): I’ve been to a number of them, including Fatima and Lourdes in the summer of 1999, I think it was. The photo on my FB “status” is part of a candid shot by the Regent of the St. Bernard’s CDA group. Actually it is St. Anne’s shrine, but of course, it we are honoring the mother of Mary we are honoring Mary and her Son.

Jul 7, 8:13 PM

Guest4591 (Guest): I think it was taken just as I spyed our

Jul 7, 8:14 PM

Alice (Guest): Very interesting. Modern architecture which was neat.

Jul 7, 8:14 PM

VisitationSiste: I have an unusual desire to go to La salette but of course not very likely!

Jul 7, 8:14 PM

Guest4591 (Guest): Bishop arriving, walking casually down the center isle with his brief case in his hand and a garment draped over his arm. We are fortunate in having a good Bishop.

Jul 7, 8:14 PM

Guest1770 (Guest): We have in Lackawanna outside of Buffalo Our Lady of Victory Basilica !!! Incredible Place !!! Father Baker was guided by God to build . Ladies from around the Country donated quarters to build during 20s . It was used to feed thousands during Great Depression . Must visit if you are in Buffalo !!!

Jul 7, 8:14 PM

VisitationSiste: If ever!

Jul 7, 8:14 PM

VisitationSiste: yes

Jul 7, 8:16 PM

VisitationSiste: Q4 n the last two paragraphs, St. Francis says that even great saints can at times produce “grievous venial sins” and “fruitless fruits.” Why does St. Francis bring this up? Does this diminish our motivation to imitate the saints? Or does it make it easier to strive for holiness knowing that they fail too?

Jul 7, 8:16 PM

Guest4591 (Guest): Thanks for the tip, Brian. Maybe someday. Maybe not long from now.

Jul 7, 8:17 PM

Guest1770 (Guest): We also have Fatima Shrine in Lewiston !!! I take my clients on field trips to both !!!! Incredible the deep sharing that takes place on those trips !!! Praise God !!!

Jul 7, 8:18 PM

VisitationSiste: I’d really like that one

Jul 7, 8:18 PM

Alice (Guest): Sister I like the idea of knowing the saints messed up too and therefore I must keep striving

Jul 7, 8:19 PM

VisitationSiste: For q 4, it is true that we are all sinners, even saints, but they grow away from sin at least more serious ones, over time and it gives encouragement to us

Jul 7, 8:20 PM

Alice (Guest): Yes

Jul 7, 8:20 PM

Guest4591 (Guest): Sister, you could probably easily visit one of the US Shrines of Our Lady of LaSalette. I came upon one practically by “accident” exactly one year ago, on the way home from my brother’s funeral. It is in New Hampsire, almost at the Vermont border. I stayed two days! Attended a seminar the first night. Found amazing cheerful “support” from a stranger, delighted to share fresh strawberries with me, and I with everyone else.

Jul 7, 8:20 PM

VisitationSiste: Was it spiritually uplifting then?

Jul 7, 8:21 PM

Guest1770 (Guest): Alice one of our guys who reminds of St Paul always says that he falls but he always gets back up with the Lord , he falls but he gets back up with the Lord !!!

Jul 7, 8:21 PM

Alice (Guest): πŸ™‚

Jul 7, 8:23 PM

VisitationSiste: St Francis de Sales knew failure though I do not speak of sin here But he tried to start many initiatives and most petered out, but not the Visitation

Jul 7, 8:24 PM

Guest1770 (Guest): He is literally saving lives by discipling the younger Men in Prison . Those who are soo tempted to take their own life !!!

Jul 7, 8:25 PM

Guest4591 (Guest): It was good for me to be there, to go home s l o w l y. Time to process. The story of LaSalette was new to me. The “image” so different from what we’ve grown accustomed to. I would not use the term “uplifting.” I think I was in a pretty good “place” to start with at the time, despite the circumstances. And, though I did not voice them, I had some trouble with the content of the seminar. I think the theology was a little “off.” But who am I to judge? I’ve never even studied theology, not other than

Jul 7, 8:26 PM

VisitationSiste: Your soul knows, Ruth

Jul 7, 8:29 PM
