Saint Francis emphasizes often the divide between a non-Christian attempting virtue in vain compared with the Christian who has grace. What different then is there between a Christian attempting virtue without charity and a pagan doing likewise? How can we ensure that we are always doing things with charity? The idea of the “walking dead” seems at first a contradiction, but for those in mortal sin, that is exactly how Saint Francis describes them. How can we better understand this idea of being al

VisitationSiste: How can we better understand this idea of being alive in body but dead in spirit? In the last paragraph, Saint Francis makes a profound point about gaining the whole world and losing one’s soul. We often think of this in terms of wealth and possession, but even growth in virtue without love can fall into this category. Discuss. When a person lives in a state of mortal sin, how does that change his motives? What kind of caution should we exercise when we deal with people whose motives seem only selfish, rather

Jennifer Koo: Visitation nun wears rabbit
Oct 20, 7:43 PM
Vi Nguyen: or I feel lost in the direction of where I am going
Oct 20, 7:43 PM
Ruth (Guest): So you’ve entered the only Visitation Monastery I’ve ever visited, Jennifer. I did not realize that it would be that one. Do they have a mistress of novices now? That was a concern a while back.
Oct 20, 7:43 PM
Jennifer Koo: Yes Ruth
Oct 20, 7:44 PM
Dawn (Guest): This is good news!
Oct 20, 7:44 PM
Vi Nguyen: I guess I need more guidance and direction in my life
Oct 20, 7:44 PM
Vi Nguyen: that is how I feel
Oct 20, 7:44 PM
Jennifer Koo: Vi, retreats and spiritual guidance might be helpful
Oct 20, 7:45 PM
Vi Nguyen: yes, definitely
Oct 20, 7:45 PM
Ruth (Guest): I am still looking for and praying for a spiritual director/guide.
Oct 20, 7:45 PM
Jennifer Koo: Ruth, yes I have entered.
Oct 20, 7:46 PM
Jennifer Koo: Ruth, by God’s grace, you will have one
Oct 20, 7:46 PM
Ruth (Guest): Will keep you in my prayers Jennifer. Seems you’ve felt the “tug” for a long time.
Oct 20, 7:46 PM
Ruth (Guest): So have I for that matter.
Oct 20, 7:46 PM
Jennifer Koo: Yes, this is my calling
Oct 20, 7:47 PM
Ruth (Guest): But I have no clear indication that I have a vocation to a religious order.
Oct 20, 7:47 PM
Dawn (Guest): Does the Visitation Monastery where you are Jennifer offer retreats
Oct 20, 7:47 PM
Ruth (Guest): Community is essential to living a life of Faith.
Oct 20, 7:48 PM
Jennifer Koo: Everybody has a vocation, but might not be religious
Oct 20, 7:48 PM

Jennifer Koo: Saint Francis emphasizes often the divide between a non-Christian attempting virtue in vain compared with the Christian who has grace. What different then is there between a Christian attempting virtue without charity and a pagan doing likewise?
Oct 20, 7:49 PM
Jennifer Koo: Maybe we can start with question 1
Oct 20, 7:49 PM
Ruth (Guest): Vi, Is it OK to ask how old you are?
Oct 20, 7:49 PM
Vi Nguyen: 39
Oct 20, 7:49 PM
Dawn (Guest): Thank you Jennifer.
Oct 20, 7:49 PM
Jennifer Koo: Vi, pray for it
Oct 20, 7:50 PM
Vi Nguyen: Well, I always wonder of what is the direction or the path in my life.
Oct 20, 7:50 PM
Ruth (Guest): Thank you Vi; yes, Jennifer, we ought to at least try to address the questions.
Oct 20, 7:51 PM
Jennifer Koo: The Holy Spirit can guide you, Video
Oct 20, 7:51 PM
Jennifer Koo: Yes, we should start
Oct 20, 7:51 PM
Jennifer Koo: Mother wanted us to do the question while she might come later
Oct 20, 7:52 PM
Jennifer Koo: Sorry I mean Vi
Oct 20, 7:52 PM
Vi Nguyen: ok
Oct 20, 7:52 PM
Dawn (Guest): A pagan would have a different motive to practicing virtue than a Christian would…but I feel the answer is deeper than this
Oct 20, 7:53 PM
Jennifer Koo: St Francis de Sales’ teaching is all virtue is from our union with God
Oct 20, 7:53 PM
Dawn (Guest): Indeed if the pagans practised some virtues, it was generally for the sake of worldly glory, and consequently they had nothing of virtue but the action, and not the motive and intention: now virtue is not true unless it has a right intention….St Francis
Oct 20, 7:54 PM
Jennifer Koo: So I suppose there will be great differences
Oct 20, 7:55 PM
Dawn (Guest): Then , it would be a grace from God that places this intention in us
Oct 20, 7:55 PM
Jennifer Koo: Yes, Dawn
Oct 20, 7:55 PM

Oct 20, 7:55 PM
Ruth (Guest): Abraham by each of his three “wives.”
Oct 20, 7:57 PM
Dawn (Guest): that is hard to understand I agree Ruth, because we would not live this way now
Oct 20, 7:57 PM
Jennifer Koo: But only Isaac is the heir
Oct 20, 7:57 PM
Dawn (Guest): Ah!
Oct 20, 7:57 PM
Ruth (Guest): I think a non-Christian can have true charity — sometimes more authentic than we who profess Christ — and therefore meritorious actions. I think I’ve know such people.
Oct 20, 7:59 PM
Jennifer Koo: Jesus said that no man is good. Our human righteous can never redeem ourselves from our human sinfulness
Oct 20, 7:59 PM
Vi Nguyen: I wander into trying to better understand myself of Christian Catholic and Jewish
Oct 20, 8:00 PM
Dawn (Guest): says S. Augustine, “were not true, but only resembled true ones, because they were not done for a proper end, but for transitory ends…..
Oct 20, 8:00 PM
Ruth (Guest): I think that is what Karl Rahner called “hidden Christians.” They may not even know about Christ, or may have had such a distorted view of Christianity — possibly even due to “our” inadequate witness, that it seems it cannot be a true Faith.
Oct 20, 8:01 PM
Jennifer Koo: Hello viewers
Oct 20, 8:02 PM
Ruth (Guest): I believe that that is a true statement, Jennifer. So important! AND MIGHT even be at least part of the reason that the wife of a Ph.D. Psychologist who holds the belief of complete SELF perfectability wound up committing suicide.
Oct 20, 8:02 PM
Jennifer Koo: Hi, Guest 7645
Oct 20, 8:03 PM
Guest7645 (Guest): Hi Jennifer , Vi , Ruth , and Dawn ! God Bless You ! Brian
Oct 20, 8:03 PM
Vi Nguyen: Hi Guest7645
Oct 20, 8:04 PM
Jennifer Koo: Hi, Brain
Oct 20, 8:04 PM
Guest7645 (Guest): Sorry I’m late just got home !
Oct 20, 8:04 PM
Jennifer Koo: That’s ok
Oct 20, 8:05 PM
Ruth (Guest): There was a discussion on Public Radio today about the dramatically increased rate of suicide. No mention was made of a culture that does not put pleasing GOD at the center.
Oct 20, 8:05 PM
Ruth (Guest): Hi Brian. Hope you are well, and that your ministry continues to produce amazing fruits.
Oct 20, 8:05 PM
Jennifer Koo: Brain, I have entered the Visitation Monastery
Oct 20, 8:06 PM
Guest7645 (Guest): Everyone needs Jesus !!!
Oct 20, 8:06 PM
Dawn (Guest): Hi Brian!
Oct 20, 8:06 PM
Dawn (Guest): yes
Oct 20, 8:06 PM
Vi Nguyen: I pray often with Jesus Christ and Sorrowful Mother Mary, but I feel fragile
Oct 20, 8:07 PM
Jennifer Koo: God can strengthen you
Oct 20, 8:07 PM
Vi Nguyen: yes
Oct 20, 8:07 PM
Vi Nguyen: I hope so
Oct 20, 8:07 PM
Guest7645 (Guest): Congratulations Jennifer !!! Praise God !!! Wonderful that you have followed God’s call in your life !!!!🙏🙏🙏
Oct 20, 8:08 PM
Jennifer Koo: Have you all heard about the Jubilee year of St Margaret Mary
Oct 20, 8:08 PM
Vi Nguyen: no
Oct 20, 8:08 PM
Ruth (Guest): And unfortunately, Brian, a lot of people do not realize it. K. Rahner does not say they do not need Jesus; rather, that it is by the merits of Jesus, whether they realize it or not, that there good actions can proceed and can have good fruits.
Oct 20, 8:09 PM
Dawn (Guest): I received video, perhaps all have, made by Visitation from Sr Susan . I have not watched it yet, have any of you?
Oct 20, 8:09 PM
Ruth (Guest): Yes, Jennifer. Sister Susan sent a short video about it. It’s on YouTube, and by the time I saw it earlier today, one hundred fifty + had already viewed it, in a day and a half.
Oct 20, 8:10 PM
Jennifer Koo: Yes, Ruth. Maybe that’s our 2nd questionHow can we ensure that we are always doing things with charity?
Oct 20, 8:10 PM
Dawn (Guest): Pray
Oct 20, 8:10 PM
Jennifer Koo: Yes, Dawn and Ruth. That’s a blessing for the whole world
Oct 20, 8:11 PM
Vi Nguyen: I pray too.
Oct 20, 8:11 PM
Vi Nguyen: I also think of way to do charity, but can you tell me more about what can I do
Oct 20, 8:12 PM
Jennifer Koo: There’s many things we can do. We can love our neighbours
Oct 20, 8:12 PM
Vi Nguyen: yeah
Oct 20, 8:12 PM
Vi Nguyen: or think in my prayer for one another upon Christ
Oct 20, 8:13 PM
Jennifer Koo: Yes, praying
Oct 20, 8:13 PM
Guest7645 (Guest): Gratitude and true Thanksgiving to God can prevent a lot of disobedience to God . Our sin is real ingratutude to Our Father in Heaven !
Oct 20, 8:15 PM
Jennifer Koo: There’s a special grace for the Jubilee year, penitentiary indulgence
Oct 20, 8:15 PM
Vi Nguyen: what is it
Oct 20, 8:15 PM
Ruth (Guest): I am not sure that we can be SURE. But there are some signs, like, e.g.: 1) the action is in tune with Sacred Scripture 2) if we look at it prayerfully we “discern” that it is 3) — but perhaps less reliably than other marks — it brings about more peace (interior peace and peace between/among people), and joy.
Oct 20, 8:16 PM
Guest7645 (Guest): Building real relationships with the people around us everyday . Taking the time to truly listen to others and be present for them !
Oct 20, 8:16 PM
Vi Nguyen: But I thought the Jubilee year was a while back.
Oct 20, 8:16 PM
Vi Nguyen: yes, definitely Guest7645
Oct 20, 8:16 PM
Dawn (Guest): good ways to examine our self Ruth, thank you
Oct 20, 8:16 PM
Jennifer Koo: From October 16th 2019 to October 17th 2020
Oct 20, 8:17 PM
Jennifer Koo: Visit any of the Visitation Monastery
Oct 20, 8:17 PM
Jennifer Koo: and with the usual conditions
Oct 20, 8:17 PM
Vi Nguyen: is the Jubilee year is from Pope for the Catholic church
Oct 20, 8:18 PM
Vi Nguyen: I haven’t heard of it yet
Oct 20, 8:18 PM
Vi Nguyen: am I missing out here
Oct 20, 8:18 PM
Vi Nguyen: I heard of Mercy Year
Oct 20, 8:18 PM
Jennifer Koo: You can check the Visitation websites
Oct 20, 8:21 PM
Jennifer Koo: You might wish to visit any of the Visitation Monastery within the Jubilee year as a pilgrimage or you could even make a retreat
Oct 20, 8:21 PM
Jennifer Koo: Hello viewers
Oct 20, 8:23 PM
Vi Nguyen: is there one in Oregon
Oct 20, 8:23 PM
Ruth (Guest): Vi, this is a different Jubilee Year. It is of the Sacred Heart of Jesus becoming more widely known and venerated through St. Margaret Mary’s obedience in sharing her “vision” with the world. Pope Francis has said that just by passing through the gate/entrance of a Visitation Church or Chapel — provided one is in a state of grace (confession recommended within 20 days) one can gain a plenary indulgence.
Oct 20, 8:24 PM
Jennifer Koo: Church/Chapel of the Visitation Monastery
Oct 20, 8:24 PM
Jennifer Koo: Thank you, Ruth
Oct 20, 8:25 PM
Ruth (Guest): Yes, Jennifer.
Oct 20, 8:25 PM
Vi Nguyen: yes, I did went to chapel and passed through the gate/entrance of the chapel on the Mercy year
Oct 20, 8:25 PM
Ruth (Guest): Seems to me one also always has to have the intention of gaining the indulgence.
Oct 20, 8:26 PM
Ruth (Guest): You live in Oregon Vi?
Oct 20, 8:26 PM
Vi Nguyen: yes
Oct 20, 8:27 PM
Guest7645 (Guest): Incredible we started new Bible Study a few weeks ago on Luke . We had awesome response to the Visitation by the participants . The other day had daughter of one of the people I work with visit . She is 8 months pregnant and was asking important questions about God . I had chance to share with her the Visitation and read her the Magnificat ! You could see the Glory of the Lord upon her with her Daughter within her !
Oct 20, 8:28 PM
Jennifer Koo: I have to go now. Have a blessed week.
Oct 20, 8:28 PM
Jennifer Koo: Goodnight
Oct 20, 8:28 PM

Oct 20, 8:28 PM

Oct 20, 8:34 PM
Guest7645 (Guest): Goodnight Ruth , Dawn , and Vi !!! God Bless You All !!! Brian
Oct 20, 8:34 PM
Dawn (Guest): God bless you Brian. thank you for being such a bright light!!
Oct 20, 8:35 PM
Dawn (Guest): or for sharing..Jesus in you.
Oct 20, 8:36 PM
Dawn (Guest): Goodnight Brian. and Ruth. God’s blessings
Oct 20, 8:36 PM
Ruth (Guest): I looked up Oregon Visitation Monasteries. Google brought up all sorts of unrelated matters. Maybe Sr. Susan will be able to tell us. I once lived in Toledo, OH near a Visitation Monastery but did not even know it. And when I was a child I lived near the Brooklyn Visitation Monastery — where Jennifer has just entered — but was completely unaware of it.
Oct 20, 8:37 PM
Dawn (Guest): So there may be a Visitation in Oregon then
Oct 20, 8:38 PM
Dawn (Guest): Is the Toledo Monastery still open? I’ve not heard of it
Oct 20, 8:39 PM
Ruth (Guest): Brian, that image from Luke of the two pregnant women embracing is one of my favorite in S. Scripture. So moving! And from it we get the Magnificat. My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices . . . .
Oct 20, 8:42 PM
Ruth (Guest): Yes, Dawn. Sr. Susan Marie has visited it a number of times. That is how I first learned of it — on the internet. And, it seems to me that they had the exhibit of the paintings of the Annesee, France Visitation Monastery. (The paintings were also displayed at the Brooklyn Visitation Monastery at one time.
Oct 20, 8:45 PM
Guest8206 (Guest): The Toledo monastery is still open – they have a facebook page – one of the more cloistered ones – the second federation and the first federation were forced to merge by the Vatican this Summer and there is only on Order now with 9 convents existing
Oct 20, 8:47 PM
Dawn (Guest): Is this a great change, having merged? Good to know however, one order and 9 convents remaining
Oct 20, 8:48 PM
Dawn (Guest): Goodnight everyone. thank you and God bless!
Oct 20, 9:22 PM
Ruth (Guest): Correction: Annecy, France Monastery now is owned by the Sisters of St. Joseph’
Oct 20, 9:30 PM
Guest8206 (Guest): Ruth – thank you for that information, I didn’t realize the Annecy Monastery was no longer a Visitation Monastery. I was referring to the Monasteries in America that are still existing, but it is hard to believe that about Annecy because that was the first one, if I am correct.
