Aug 30, 7:22 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Glad it worked!

Aug 30, 7:22 PM

Guest8412 (Guest): I didn’t try, I just signed in as guest.

Aug 30, 7:27 PM

SrSusan (Guest): I guess it is close enough to 730pm to start.

Aug 30, 7:27 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Did you read the newsletter? It can help sometimes!

Aug 30, 7:27 PM

Carroll V (Guest): Good evening- just dropping in to thank you for this topic and the meditation for this week. I stayed up late this morning to attend Mass in person, then had difficulty falling asleep. So, unfortunately, I really must sleep for a few hours before working overnight… I will appreciate reflecting on chat later and look forward to being with you again soon!

Aug 30, 7:28 PM

SrSusan (Guest): ok!

Aug 30, 7:28 PM

SrSusan (Guest): first q How can we have a healthy focus on avoiding vice and growing in virtue without becoming scrupulous about sin and vice?

Aug 30, 7:28 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Hi Mary Ann and Karma

Aug 30, 7:28 PM

SrSusan (Guest): and Dawn

Aug 30, 7:28 PM

Dawn (Guest): hi everyone!

Aug 30, 7:29 PM

Dawn (Guest): Sr Susan, thank you for this chat

Aug 30, 7:29 PM

SrSusan (Guest): That word vice is something we don’t use much except in the show the Vice Squad.

Aug 30, 7:29 PM

SrSusan (Guest): You are welcome

Aug 30, 7:30 PM

SrSusan (Guest): But it is something we need to think about- while not becoming too anxious or scrupulous

Aug 30, 7:30 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Scrupulosity is a real burden to a soul

Aug 30, 7:30 PM

Guest9748 (Guest): sr susan I will join the mother teresa forcades OSB the benedicitne nun retreat name call the body of christ .she teach us in spain but I join them online zoom but they teach in english and use the english catholic bible that class will be my retreat is started in september 6 sunday and I allowed to join them online zoom to hear the gaspel teaching of jesus through sister teresa forcades she is the writter a book faith and freedom and I have her book read.bettychao

Aug 30, 7:31 PM

SrSusan (Guest): That’s great Betty

Aug 30, 7:31 PM

Dawn (Guest): q1 sometimes we receive a grace to see sin for what it is and how it has been in our life. also praying for the grace to so

Aug 30, 7:31 PM

LuAnn Deane: hello all – I have often noted that the mind really cannot – not think- of something…If you tell someone to not think of ice cream, that is exactly what they think of, so in trying to avoid thinking about a vice, we are in fact thinking about it.

Aug 30, 7:31 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Good point- so then, what approach could we take?

Aug 30, 7:32 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Maybe focusing on virtue?

Aug 30, 7:32 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Just wondering

Aug 30, 7:33 PM

SrSusan (Guest): The next questions are related, and to what you just said.

Aug 30, 7:33 PM

Guest9748 (Guest): the word of jesus become flesh and dwelt in us to those who trust him as true savier he gave power to us become the children of God.bettychao

Aug 30, 7:33 PM

LuAnn Deane: I like the approach of St Francis in acknowledging it, but not beating yourself up over it –

Aug 30, 7:34 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Do you find it ironic that in order to avoid vice, we need to have a healthy focus on it (And not just ignore it or be in denial that it exists)? And does this perpetuate its existence?3

Aug 30, 7:34 PM

SrSusan (Guest): See how those questions mirror your point

Aug 30, 7:35 PM

Guest9748 (Guest): the lord is my light and salvastion whom shauld I fear and the lord is my life and refuge of whom shall I worry.bettychao

Aug 30, 7:35 PM

LuAnn Deane: If we look at our part in it being there, do what we are responsible for in not contributing to it, then offering it to God with our desire to only do His will

Aug 30, 7:35 PM

Dawn (Guest): St Francis says Believe me, don’t be afraid of temptations, and whatever you do don’t touch them, they will not do you any damage; go on, right past them, and don’t linger over them. so perhaps we should not take everythought and hold onto it.

Aug 30, 7:36 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Yes it is often said in prayer re distractions we should let them be or let them buzz about with no attention to wipe them away like flies

Aug 30, 7:36 PM

SrSusan (Guest): from St Francis: Not long ago I was near some beehives and a few bees came and settled on my face. I wanted to raise my hand and brush them off. No, said a peasant to me, don’t be afraid, and whatever you do don’t touch them, they will attack you. I trusted his word and not a single one stung me. Believe me, don’t be afraid of temptations, and whatever you do don’t touch them, they will not do you any damage; go on, right past them, and don’t linger over them.

Aug 30, 7:37 PM

Guest9748 (Guest): sr susan one thing I ask the lord this I seek to live in the house of the lord and all days of my life that I may gaze on the loving kindness of the lord and contemplate his church .bettychao

Aug 30, 7:37 PM

SrSusan (Guest): my favorite quote!

Aug 30, 7:37 PM

SrSusan (Guest): welcome guests!

Aug 30, 7:38 PM

Guest4964 (Guest): Thank you, Sister.

Aug 30, 7:39 PM

SrSusan (Guest): re vice, I think we need to know the enemy so to speak and maybe just being aware of something that is wrong can be enough to prompt us to the correct or moral or right way or thing

Aug 30, 7:39 PM

Guest4964 (Guest): I liked your thought on distraction in prayer. God knows we are just human…

Aug 30, 7:39 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Yes and St Francis used to say he was one of the most human humans!

Aug 30, 7:39 PM

Guest9748 (Guest): sr susan I believe that I shall see the beauty of the lord in the land of the living.wait for the lord with the courage be stouthearted and wait for the lord But trust and accept the lord with you whole heart.bettychao

Aug 30, 7:40 PM

LuAnn Deane: I work a lot in the flower gardens and with a fish pond there also I get hundreds of bees daily. It is easier to simply work around them without taking any particular notice when you accept that you and they have your own part in the balance of the garden. Even those things which you want to protect yourself from, often has a reason, and resting on God’s protection is a much more peaceful position to work from.

Aug 30, 7:40 PM

Dawn (Guest): thank you Betty

Aug 30, 7:40 PM

Mary Ann Kronk: I have been reading. Much – commenting little

Aug 30, 7:41 PM

Dawn (Guest): Hi Mary Ann

Aug 30, 7:41 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Good example, LuAnn. and let the Lord help us

Aug 30, 7:41 PM

Mary Ann Kronk: I think – other than food 🤐 my biggest temptation is ?

Aug 30, 7:42 PM

Mary Ann Kronk: I don’t know??

Aug 30, 7:42 PM

Mary Ann Kronk: Hi all!!

Aug 30, 7:43 PM

Guest4964 (Guest): Just being aware of something is wrong… I went to toss an old speaker in the trash..we are not supposed to dispose of electronics. So, God let me get my finger caught and scratched up while I put it in the container. I immediately took it out to dispose of it properly and thanked God. Stupid little thing, but just a divine nudge..

Aug 30, 7:43 PM

Mary Ann Kronk: Not denying myself more?

Aug 30, 7:43 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Next Q: How often do people sin with money? There is the unhealthy obsession with gaining too much wealth (the “love of money”) but on the opposite side there is the unhealthy obsession with with having enoug

money and avoiding poverty; both seem to be a love of money of sorts. How do we find the balance?\

Aug 30, 7:44 PM

Mary Ann Kronk: By proper planning!

Aug 30, 7:44 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Good example also, guest 4964

Aug 30, 7:44 PM

Mary Ann Kronk: Living within your means

Aug 30, 7:44 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Planning like a budget you mean?

Aug 30, 7:44 PM

SrSusan (Guest): ah yes

Aug 30, 7:44 PM

Mary Ann Kronk: And simply not wanting things –

Aug 30, 7:45 PM

Dawn (Guest): a budget sounds like a good idea

Aug 30, 7:45 PM

Guest9748 (Guest): malachi 3:1-4 thus says the lord our God I am senting my prophet messenger to prepare the way before me. and suddenly there will come to the temple of the lord when the lord ask them to come.and the prophet of the church of the lord whom you desire .yes he is coming says of the lord of host but who will endure the day his coming and who can stand when he apears to us we will prepare our souls to wait for jesus come lord jesus alelluia.bettychao

Aug 30, 7:45 PM

Mary Ann Kronk: Yes a budget – you know how much you have – and you know what you have to pay each month – anticipate the unexpected and plan for things like glasses and denta

Aug 30, 7:45 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Even with the vow of poverty money enters our world and when you have a huge Monastery to run you must depend on God because otherwise money will be a focus with the large bills for oil, etc

Aug 30, 7:45 PM

Mary Ann Kronk: Dental

Aug 30, 7:46 PM

Dawn (Guest): for lack of a budget I overspent early this month. so it has been difficult and Ive found myself thinking about money more than I usually do.

Aug 30, 7:47 PM

LuAnn Deane: I find it helpful to remember that the money is not really mine, but my responsibility to make sure it gets where it needs to be. This makes it easier to both pay the bill and to give it away, and if there is some left for fun, then that is a blessing which I can be thankful for

Aug 30, 7:47 PM

SrSusan (Guest): We pray alot so there is balance in our day between the practical needs and the spiritual relationship with the Lord

Aug 30, 7:47 PM

Guest9748 (Guest): sister susan is that you monastery retreat is only for the sisters or for anyone come to you monastery to join the retreat becuase I remenber you say you monastery retreat is privite. can you tell us.

Aug 30, 7:49 PM

Mary Ann Kronk: I find that regular prayer – uninterrupted prayer helps in every way

Aug 30, 7:49 PM

SrSusan (Guest): When you take solemn vows as I did and had a bank account how to disperse your money before solemn vows became a preoccupation, but not for long

Aug 30, 7:50 PM

Mary Ann Kronk: I would just give it to my children

Aug 30, 7:50 PM

Guest4964 (Guest): How did you decide?

Aug 30, 7:59 PM

Guest4964 (Guest): Our hearts don’t know better that He does!

Aug 30, 7:59 PM

Dawn (Guest): so should we realize we are human and have failings, yet we have our faith so do not allow those assaults to worry us so much.

Aug 30, 7:59 PM

Mary Ann Kronk: Oh my – my hearts desires usually get me into so much trouble! He know what I want in my heart of hearts and if he doesn’t give it there is a reason- and I thank Him!!

You do not answer them, and that is right; but you think about them too much, you fear them too much, you are too apprehensive: else they would not do you any harm. Mary Ann Kronk: I feel like a fish out of water in the world- in the monastery – it is where my heart is. Where I am most with and for God

Aug 30, 8:10 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Did it resonate with you hearing Saint Francis de Sales (over 400 years ago) mention the feast day of St. Augustine (Aug. 28)? How might this bespeak of the catholicity of Catholicism?

Aug 30, 8:10 PM

Mary Ann Kronk: And that is all I want / need

Aug 30, 8:11 PM

Mary Ann Kronk: I love that the church is apostolic. The links of a long chain that connect us to Christ

Aug 30, 8:12 PM

SrSusan (Guest): “Today is the feast of St. Augustine and you can imagine that I prayed to his Master for you and also to God’s servant and his mother. How greatly my soul loves yours! Go on putting your trust in my soul and loving it. It is God’s will, dear daughter, I am quite certain; and he will use this love for his glory. May he be our heart, daughter, and I am in him, and by his will, all yours. Live joyfully and be generous; that is what God whom we love and to whom we are dedicated wants us to be. It is he who gave

Aug 30, 8:12 PM

SrSusan (Guest): That’s the quote the question refers to from the letter

Aug 30, 8:13 PM

Aug 30, 8:17 PM

SrSusan (Guest): I think this question is difficult: What do you think St. Francis meant when he said, “You cling too jealously to the purity of your faith….”?

Aug 30, 8:17 PM

Mary Ann Kronk: They were able to express a deep spiritual love in a way that we can not in our world today without fear of it being broadcasted and twisted

Aug 30, 8:17 PM

Carol Ann Chybowski: By trying to preserve it ourselves we are in danger of losing it

Aug 30, 8:18 PM

SrSusan (Guest): very true Mary Ann

Aug 30, 8:18 PM

Guest9748 (Guest): sr susan why sr jennifer koo didnt join chat with us today?

Aug 30, 8:19 PM

Mary Ann Kronk: Bring over scrupulous I think is a hazard we all kind of have to work through at first –

Aug 30, 8:19 PM

SrSusan (Guest): This is the quote from the question: I think Dawn alos posted it a while back: You love faith and you do not want to have a single thought contrary to the faith, and as soon as one crops up you are upset and scared. You cling too jealously to the purity of your faith, and you feel that any little thing can spoil it. No, no, dear daughter, let the wind blow freely, and don’t mistake the rustling of leaves for the clash of armor.

Ruth Cassin: Just a quick hello. Glad to see a good turn out. On the Feast of St. Augustin I got a venous port implanted and tomorrow chemo starts. Calm now that I have a ride to get there but the communication problems (shall I say, last minute “screw ups”?) and transportation problems had me stressed Friday night after getting home at 8:30 with the anesthesia still working . . . Please pray that I will will the will of God at every step of the way. Thanks. And find drivers for each trip. I’ll sign off now.

Aug 30, 8:20 PM

SrSusan (Guest): One has to remember thAT sT jANE LIVED WITH TEMPTATIONS AGAINST THE FAITH FOR MANY YEARS WHILE STILL UPHOLDING THE FAITH

Aug 30, 8:20 PM

Aug 30, 8:21 PM

Carol Ann Chybowski: Praying Ruth!

Aug 30, 8:21 PM

Guest4964 (Guest): Faith is still a gift. We need to let God do His part in bringing us closer. We can’t just will it. We can’t do it alone.

Aug 30, 8:22 PM
