Anne-Madeleine Rémuzat (1696-1730) is a Visitandine from Marseille, who died at the age of 33. In July 1720, the famous plague of Marseille broke out, which decimated nearly half of the city’s population. In October, while she was in adoration, Christ made her understand that thanks to this scourge, she would see the institution of a feast in honor of her Sacred Heart. The message was transmitted to Bishop de Belsunce, who decided on November 1, 1720 to consecrate Marseille and its diocese to the Sacred Heart of Jesus; the bishop celebrates Mass bareheaded, barefoot and with a torch in his hand.
Sister Anne-Madeleine then spread scapulars of the Sacred Heart. She is considered the successor of Saint Marguerite-Marie Alacoque, as a propagator of devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
