The word halcyon means calm or peaceful. What can this bird with its mythical ways teach us about being calm and peaceful? In St. Mark’s account of when Jesus calmed the storm, he mentions that Jesus said to the sea, “Peace! Be still” (Mark 4:39). What should this ensure us of as we get tossed by the storms of life? Connect this reflection with the scene when St. Peter temporarily walked on water to get to Jesus. What is something we can learn here? Why does God allow the storms of life?
Dec 6, 11:55 AM
VisitationSiste: Why not just eliminate the storms altogether?
What can we do to ensure we always keep our eyes on Jesus?
St. Francis talked about his need of spiritual rest. How can we practice spiritual rest each day?

Dec 6, 7:36 PM
Guest8685 (Guest): I did sent a picture of my painting is a flower to sr susan as a christmas and thanksgiving present gift this picture I paint with oil paint is a big colorful flower .
Dec 6, 7:36 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: The letter is full of good advice that can be hard to follow
Dec 6, 7:36 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: Hi Simone!
Dec 6, 7:37 PM
Dawn (Guest): Betty Chao, yes Jesus tells the disciples that for some demons they, we, must pray and fast
Dec 6, 7:37 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Do you have a picture for us to see Betty Chao?
Dec 6, 7:37 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Hi Simone!
Dec 6, 7:37 PM
Dawn (Guest): Hi Simone
Dec 6, 7:38 PM
Simone (Guest): So, Dorothy, I do not want to ignore your question. I loved the letter. But I think I love them all
Dec 6, 7:38 PM
Simone (Guest): oh Carol, interesting.. What do you find hard to follow specifically? Making a nest ? sorry.. silly joke
Dec 6, 7:39 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: Me too, but this week’s just hit closer to home…with all the uncertainty, and fear around.
Dec 6, 7:39 PM
Simone (Guest): Yes, I found it so good for times of anxiety.
Dec 6, 7:39 PM
Simone (Guest): I loved the the anchor is upwards!
Dec 6, 7:39 PM
Guest8685 (Guest): not yet is only for sr susan as a christmas gift I ship to her monastery by post mail. we did go to the post office to ship to her place. but if I have any christian art painting picture by me I will sent to you and I will let you know.
Dec 6, 7:39 PM
Carroll V (Guest): I love this letter… images of ” nesting” our hearts and complete trust as we ride the waves of life…
Dec 6, 7:39 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: I must say, I always find St. Francis’ use of mythical birds so lovely.
Dec 6, 7:40 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Not silly at all. Yes, exactly, making a nest. So easy for life to blow me out if the tree
Dec 6, 7:40 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: Yes, keep our eyes on heaven.
Dec 6, 7:40 PM
Simone (Guest): I find it interesting though, that the nest is made by someone else
Dec 6, 7:40 PM
Simone (Guest): If I understand correctly – the Parent-bird builds it for the little one’s
Dec 6, 7:40 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Thank you Betty Chao
Dec 6, 7:41 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: But even St. Peter had this moment of weakness during the surging seas…once he “forgot” who he was going toward.
Dec 6, 7:41 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: So Jesus builds for us because in His house there are many mansions
Dec 6, 7:41 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: and that’s what happens to me when I let my mind drift from Him.
Dec 6, 7:41 PM
Guest8685 (Guest): i did draw and painting of sacred heart of jesus before it is long time ago when i am kansas.
Dec 6, 7:42 PM
Simone (Guest): it’s an interesting point though.. Who builds our nest of our heart?
Dec 6, 7:42 PM
Simone (Guest): Is that our responsibility or do we “receive” that?
Dec 6, 7:42 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Sometimes I imagine Him as a baby lying in the Manger in my heart
Dec 6, 7:43 PM
Carroll V (Guest): Yes, Simone… I keep coming back to Our Blessed Mother carrying us in her womb as we await more and more the incarnation of Christ within us… This nest image mirrors that for me…
Dec 6, 7:43 PM
Simone (Guest): that’s a lovely image Carol
Dec 6, 7:43 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: I think we receive the gift Simone
Dec 6, 7:43 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: I don’t think my nest would be that “sea-worthy”…without His hand in it.
Dec 6, 7:43 PM
Dawn (Guest): I find Sr Susans question 3 thoughtful. I connect with St Peter walking on the water to Jesus and then sinking. I find this much like my exp lately. The grace in this I believe is the increasing intensity in trials. for how will we grow if we do not learn to suffer with Jesus?
Dec 6, 7:43 PM
Guest8685 (Guest): so wich sister will join us in the chat?
Dec 6, 7:43 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: I think we may be on our own, Betty.
Dec 6, 7:44 PM
Simone (Guest): so.. shall we go through the questions one by one?
Dec 6, 7:44 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Yes, lets
Dec 6, 7:44 PM
Simone (Guest): Ok.. so question 1)
Dec 6, 7:44 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: For me, I may start out strong, but when I forget where my strength is coming from, I sink. Too much self-reliance.
Dec 6, 7:44 PM
Guest8685 (Guest): now it is a free night that I be with you all in the chat we must talk about the bible that jesus teach us
Dec 6, 7:45 PM
Simone (Guest): what can the bird teach us? about being calm and peaceful?
Dec 6, 7:45 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: I too, Dorothy. I get distracted by the task itself
Dec 6, 7:46 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: I feel that the bird does what it does…what it is created to do to protect it’s young
Dec 6, 7:46 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: The bird sings, raises its Young and carries on. As far as we know, they live in the moment
Dec 6, 7:46 PM
Guest8685 (Guest): only jesus and God and all the saints and mary can calm us down just say a rosary and study bible and go to mass and you will learn alot from jesus and all the saints
Dec 6, 7:47 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: It doesn’t worry about how right it’s going, because that is what he/she does.
Dec 6, 7:47 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Good advice, Betty Chao! We learn from creation too for it obeys His Word
Dec 6, 7:47 PM
Dawn (Guest): Yes, Betty. Praying a Rosary daily
Dec 6, 7:47 PM
Simone (Guest): I imagine this little bird just being happy that there is a hole in the nest. Provision is coming.. what is going on outside.. does not really affect the bird
Dec 6, 7:47 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: It know it will all go right! Unlike myself, who is always working all the angles and stressing & then it becomes a mess.
Dec 6, 7:47 PM
Carroll V (Guest): Good reminder, Carol Ann- the sacredness of the present moment!
Dec 6, 7:48 PM
Simone (Guest): Ok .. ladies.. I am so confused.. are we at question 3 now?
Dec 6, 7:48 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: I thought we were still on one
Dec 6, 7:49 PM
Simone (Guest): me too, but the answers seem to fit a lot to question 3
Dec 6, 7:49 PM
Guest8685 (Guest): I read the bible and say my rosary do you know what I do? I was hold my rosary and read and studied bible in 98 minutes hour everyday and I go to listen the gaspel hymns and listen the sermon and mass but sometime I pray to holy communion .
Dec 6, 7:49 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: I brought Peter up because I just thought of the scene…
Dec 6, 7:49 PM
Simone (Guest): No problem Dorothy..
Dec 6, 7:50 PM
Simone (Guest): I was just confused
Dec 6, 7:50 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: Welcome to my world!!!
Dec 6, 7:50 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: 😀
Dec 6, 7:50 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Do you know the Seven Sorrows of Mary Rosary?
Dec 6, 7:50 PM
Simone (Guest): yes Carol. why?
Dec 6, 7:50 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: I know of it, but have never prayed it.
Dec 6, 7:51 PM
Simone (Guest): Carol, do you see a connection?
Dec 6, 7:51 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Because Betty reminded me if it just now. So many miracles have happened to me because this devotion found me
Dec 6, 7:51 PM
Simone (Guest): oh Ok.. thanks for clarifying
Dec 6, 7:51 PM
Guest1169 (Guest): Sorry I’m tardy 😘guest1169
Dec 6, 7:52 PM
Simone (Guest): many of us have mentioned.. today and before that we experience anxiety
Dec 6, 7:52 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Because Mary has experienced all that we are now, we can look to her example and help. It is also an awesome call to repentance
Dec 6, 7:52 PM
Simone (Guest): so.. how does the story of the bird help us in the future?
Dec 6, 7:52 PM
Guest8685 (Guest): i been to the jerusalem isarel in 2018 i join the flipino people tour from our church I go to the jerusalem with our church priest our church father Fr. dominic su.
Dec 6, 7:53 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Like the Phoenix we rise from the ashes, over and over until Jesus perfects us
Dec 6, 7:53 PM
Guest8685 (Guest): we go to every each place and catholic monastery in the jerusalem isarel and dead sea
Dec 6, 7:53 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: It says to me that I need to be who I am and leave the rest to God. He is ultimately the one in control.
Dec 6, 7:53 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: What fun Betty!
Dec 6, 7:53 PM
Dawn (Guest): Carol Ann, a good reflection thank you
Dec 6, 7:54 PM
Simone (Guest): That’s another great bird.. the Phonix.. but he has overcome differently. How does this halcyon bird encounter the storm?
Dec 6, 7:54 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: It must have been beautiful, Betty.
Dec 6, 7:54 PM
Dawn (Guest): the Halcyon bird keeps looking up
Dec 6, 7:54 PM
Carroll V (Guest): … and trusting…
Dec 6, 7:54 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: He knows his nest can survive and the hole will help them survive.
Dec 6, 7:55 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: The Phoenix meets it head on. It looks like he is destroyed, but he is not. Jesus recreates him
Dec 6, 7:55 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: He has access to go for food, air & the balance is never lost, so the tumultuous sea will never prevail.
Dec 6, 7:55 PM
Dawn (Guest): Carol Ann, are you referring to a story?
Dec 6, 7:55 PM
Simone (Guest): I love all your answers sisters
Dec 6, 7:56 PM
Guest8685 (Guest): we take alot of picture from isarel . and I got three bible and alot of rosary beads the olive wood one from isarel and we have mass everyday in there when we stop by each place in isarel and I been to the cana that place where jesus join the wedding feast and we have mass in there too,
Dec 6, 7:56 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: I’ve never heard Jesus in referenced to the story of the Phoenix. That’s interesting.
Dec 6, 7:56 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Yes, and also a sing by Vienna Teng titled Eric’s Song where she puts this thought to mysic
Dec 6, 7:56 PM
Simone (Guest): Ok.. ladies.. is it OK to move to question 2?
Dec 6, 7:56 PM
Dawn (Guest): Betty, an amazing experience you had. thank you
Dec 6, 7:57 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: I’ll check it out.
Dec 6, 7:57 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: The connection is my own I think
Dec 6, 7:57 PM
Guest8685 (Guest): i saw so many franciscan monks in the holy land in each place we go.
Dec 6, 7:57 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: God speaks to us in ways we each will understand.
Dec 6, 7:57 PM
Simone (Guest): Jesus says “Peace. Be Still” . What should this ensure us of as we get tossed by the storms of life?
Dec 6, 7:58 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: That we should remember who is really in charge
Dec 6, 7:58 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: If I run to Jesus in those dark moments, and ask Him to help, that is what he will do for me.
Dec 6, 7:58 PM
Carroll V (Guest): Amen!
Dec 6, 7:58 PM
Simone (Guest): I once read… that the waves of the storm, which made the disciples think that they are going to die.. was all “under Jesus feet”.. as he walked on the water.
Dec 6, 7:58 PM
Guest1169 (Guest): He takes us to quit places to refresh our souls
Dec 6, 7:58 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: He may not change what is happening, but He will bring peace into the moment and bring my heart to His stillness.
Dec 6, 7:59 PM
Simone (Guest): Yes Dorothy, I agree
Dec 6, 7:59 PM
Guest1169 (Guest): Oops, quiet places
Dec 6, 7:59 PM
Simone (Guest): and yes.. to remember that He is in charge
Dec 6, 7:59 PM
Dawn (Guest): when I read Peace Be still. I imagine Jesus saying this to me.
Dec 6, 8:00 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: but, I must invite Him in and not close myself off in the darkness.
Dec 6, 8:00 PM
Simone (Guest): very good points.
Dec 6, 8:01 PM
Guest8685 (Guest): and I been to the dead sea scroll museum and I got the bible studied book guide name call the history of the bible,
Dec 6, 8:01 PM
Simone (Guest): Can you share something, where Jesus has spoken into a storm of your life?
Dec 6, 8:01 PM
Simone (Guest): How did he calm the storm for you?
Dec 6, 8:01 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Yes, if we keep our eyes squeezed tight shut in fear, how can we see Him?
Dec 6, 8:01 PM
Guest8685 (Guest): that things hapopen in the long time ago when I went to the sandiego
Dec 6, 8:01 PM
Guest1169 (Guest): I can no longer be in church it now a prist brings the Eucharist to me every Friday 🙏
Dec 6, 8:02 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: Wow, Carol Ann. That’s really so simple, yet so true.
Dec 6, 8:02 PM
Dawn (Guest): sometimes storms last for awhile, not quick. or they can also be quick
Dec 6, 8:02 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: When I am conflicted and worried about a situation, I ask Him to go before me and with me and thevsutuation blows away like smoke
Dec 6, 8:02 PM
Simone (Guest): good point Carol Ann.
Dec 6, 8:02 PM
Guest1169 (Guest): But now a priest
Dec 6, 8:03 PM
Dawn (Guest): sometimes I pray for the Holy Spirit to pour his light and supernatural love into the situation, over the people I am praying for
Dec 6, 8:04 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: My anxiety can be overwhelming, sometimes, if I try to deal with it on my own, but once I ask Jesus to share it with me, I can breathe again,
Dec 6, 8:04 PM
Guest1169 (Guest): You all have good insights into how the Lord calms you & He is with you always!
Dec 6, 8:04 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: I know I can never let go of His hand, or stop reaching for the hem of His garment.
Dec 6, 8:05 PM
Simone (Guest): i remember once that my father was missing in an earthquake in Costa Rica. I just had lost my Mom recently and was in deep grief. To think that I might have lost my Dad now too, almost was too much for me. I could not stop crying, no-one could console me. And then I heard the voice of Jesus whispering to me in the night ” He is in my hands Simone”.. and I immediately calmed down. The peace never left and on the next day I got a phone call from my Dad.
Dec 6, 8:05 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Simone, are you in lockdown?
Dec 6, 8:05 PM
Dawn (Guest): recently I am learning how to take my suffering and sit with Jesus at the Crucifix,
Dec 6, 8:05 PM
Guest8685 (Guest): I ask my mom what time we can go to jerusalem again she say we dont know when we can go that place again now is covid 19 we have to stay home we cant go anywhere.
Dec 6, 8:05 PM
Simone (Guest): Carol Ann.. not lockdown here – just Zone Red
Dec 6, 8:05 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Simone, what a beautiful story
Dec 6, 8:06 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: What a wonderful miracle of God’s love and care.
Dec 6, 8:06 PM
Simone (Guest): Dawn.. how are you learning that?
Dec 6, 8:06 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: We are getting locked down tonight
Dec 6, 8:06 PM
Simone (Guest): oh.. my home country is in Lock Down.
Dec 6, 8:06 PM
Simone (Guest): How do you feel about the lock down Carol Ann?
Dec 6, 8:06 PM
Guest8685 (Guest): I think sr susan must take care those sisters very carefully becuase now is covid 19 they must be careful those old senior sisters and I will pray for them and their health.
Dec 6, 8:08 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: Yes, Betty, prayers are very important.
Dec 6, 8:08 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: The senior sisters must be cared for very carefully.
Dec 6, 8:08 PM
Dawn (Guest): Thru a painful situation in my family, I am learning what Ive always heard but did not really understand. to offer up suffering for the repartions of sins and conversions. I will visualize it, the cross, Jesus, and I walk up and lay down there. sometimes I feel the piercing Mary must have felt and when I do I know she is there too
Dec 6, 8:08 PM
Guest1169 (Guest): I’ve been locked in for 9 months. Have lots of time for prayer & spiritual reading. Has anyone heard of the Flame of Love of the Immaculate Heart of Mary ?
Dec 6, 8:09 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: I am not so personally afraid. But it is coming closer and closer as more peop,e I know are exposed and contract it
Dec 6, 8:09 PM
Simone (Guest): oh Dawn, it seems that the divine Shepherd is teaching you something very special these days.
Dec 6, 8:09 PM
Simone (Guest): COVID and Lock Down are in a way a storm –
Dec 6, 8:10 PM
Guest8685 (Guest): I must leave now and I have to do other things stay home be save and pray to God,bettychao
Dec 6, 8:10 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Yes! I have seen the flame of love added to the hail Mary in an Eastern Orthodox devotion
Dec 6, 8:10 PM
Dawn (Guest): I also live in CA where we are in total lockdown. I believe the lockdowns need to stop.
Dec 6, 8:10 PM
Guest1169 (Guest): For me it has brought me peace
Dec 6, 8:10 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: God bless you Betty Chao
Dec 6, 8:10 PM
Simone (Guest): Some have answered already something to question 3. about Peter walking on the water. Do you want to share more about the learning in this scene?
Dec 6, 8:10 PM
Simone (Guest): Bye Betty. See you next week again.
Dec 6, 8:11 PM
Dawn (Guest): Good night Betty. Thank you
Dec 6, 8:11 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: We are running low on hospital beds down here
Dec 6, 8:11 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: Bye Betty. Have a blessed week.
Dec 6, 8:11 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: It’s hard listening to ambulance sirens going non-stop at all hours.
Dec 6, 8:11 PM
Simone (Guest): Same in my home country ( Austria) Carol Ann.
Dec 6, 8:11 PM
Simone (Guest): I bet this is hard Dorothy.
Dec 6, 8:12 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: I live in an area called Hospital Row & it is very scary.
Dec 6, 8:12 PM
Simone (Guest): Do you feel safe Dorothy?
Dec 6, 8:12 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: This is where I have learned to share my fears with Jesus and He calms my heart.
Dec 6, 8:12 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: We are less densely populated than Los Angeles. I can only imagine whats going on there
Dec 6, 8:12 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: …but I know I can’t listen to the news or anything like that…It is all in God’s hands.
Dec 6, 8:13 PM
Simone (Guest): somehow that fits with question 4.
Dec 6, 8:13 PM
Guest1169 (Guest): I have to leave. God willing I’ll see you back next week
Dec 6, 8:13 PM
Simone (Guest): why does GOD allow the storms of life?
Dec 6, 8:13 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: I’m in Manhattan, NY…it’s pretty scary.
Dec 6, 8:13 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: To teach us to trust Him
Dec 6, 8:13 PM
Simone (Guest): I agree Carol Ann
Dec 6, 8:13 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Oh dear Dorothy
Dec 6, 8:14 PM
Simone (Guest): Without storms in our lives.. it would be hard to grow our love for him. and of course the trust
Dec 6, 8:14 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: Yes, I always thought I did before, but I think I’m finally “getting it”.
Dec 6, 8:14 PM
Dawn (Guest): Dorothy, I had no idea you were there. in the middle of it
Dec 6, 8:14 PM
Simone (Guest): Can you describe Dorothy.. what you are learning right now?
Dec 6, 8:14 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: Trusting when things are not that bad is one thing, but trusting in this it truly keeping me at His feet.
Dec 6, 8:15 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Yes, if we want trust and faith, it must be developed through practice like all other virtues
Dec 6, 8:15 PM
Simone (Guest): It is hard to be in a place of “constant trusting Jesus”..
Dec 6, 8:15 PM
Dawn (Guest): yes
Dec 6, 8:16 PM
Simone (Guest): What makes it easier for us to trust Jesus in our storms of life?
Dec 6, 8:16 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: No one really has any control of all this, or anything for that matter. God is all there is & if I leave it in His hands, worry really is useless.
Dec 6, 8:16 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: Human, but useless.
Dec 6, 8:16 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Because we are really children, in a thunderstorm as toddlers we were comforted at each rumble but still had to be comforted again with the next one
Dec 6, 8:16 PM
Dawn (Guest): I have found also researching facts and not feelings has been helpful
Dec 6, 8:17 PM
Simone (Guest): Love this Carol Ann
Dec 6, 8:17 PM
Simone (Guest): yes, sometimes our feelings are overtaking reality, right?
Dec 6, 8:17 PM
Dawn (Guest): absolutely
Dec 6, 8:17 PM
Simone (Guest): I love to read biographies of Saints.. or simply the Gospels
Dec 6, 8:17 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: Yes, Carol Ann, we must practice constantly and Calvary is our school of love.
Dec 6, 8:17 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: And now I sometimes face the storm and watch the lightning instead of hiding
Dec 6, 8:18 PM
Simone (Guest): Like.. making an entertainment out of what should be scary.
Dec 6, 8:18 PM
Dawn (Guest): I see there is so much fear surrounding the virus.
Dec 6, 8:18 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: The church from my childhood was names a pilgrimage place for the icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Help & I’ve always loved that image.
Dec 6, 8:19 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Yes! ooh, that one wasn’t so bad!
Dec 6, 8:19 PM
Simone (Guest): The times when the storm really hit in my life.. I remember that it helped me to give up my will.. and surrender it to God.
Dec 6, 8:19 PM
Dorothy Solarino-Berman: It’s the child Jesus held in His mother’s arms after having a “nightmare” and seeing the instruments of his death.
Dec 6, 8:19 PM
Simone (Guest): Like becoming detached -of all the things that sustains my happiness
Dec 6, 8:19 PM
