Edry Jemmott: Ok.
Dec 20, 7:16 PM
VisitationSiste: we take each question and dicuss by typing in
Dec 20, 7:16 PM
Edry Jemmott: So, there is no visual with these chat sessions?
Dec 20, 7:16 PM

Dec 20, 7:17 PM
Edry Jemmott: Ok.
Dec 20, 7:17 PM
VisitationSiste: did you read the newsletter
Dec 20, 7:17 PM
Edry Jemmott: Yes, I did.
Dec 20, 7:17 PM
VisitationSiste: great- so we base all on that
Dec 20, 7:18 PM
Edry Jemmott: I am speaking with Sr. Susan Marcie?
Dec 20, 7:18 PM
VisitationSiste: yes SR SUSAN MARIE
Dec 20, 7:18 PM
Edry Jemmott: Sorry, Marie.
Dec 20, 7:19 PM
VisitationSiste: that’s ok
Dec 20, 7:21 PM
Edry Jemmott: Sr. Marie, do you practice spiritual direction?
Dec 20, 7:22 PM
VisitationSiste: no I don’t do you need a director
Dec 20, 7:23 PM
Simone (Guest): Hi this is SImone
Dec 20, 7:23 PM
Edry Jemmott: I practice spiritual direction. I have not connected with a new director since my relocation here. If you have a listing of recommendation I would like to look it over.
Dec 20, 7:23 PM
VisitationSiste: HI SIMONE WELCOME
Dec 20, 7:23 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Hello!
Dec 20, 7:24 PM
Simone (Guest): Edry, are you yourself a Spiritual Director?
Dec 20, 7:24 PM
VisitationSiste: hi CAROL ANN
Dec 20, 7:24 PM
Simone (Guest): Hi Carol Ann
Dec 20, 7:24 PM
Simone (Guest): Hi Sister Susan!
Dec 20, 7:24 PM
Edry Jemmott: I have a certificate in spiritual direction. I believe that is one of my calling.
Dec 20, 7:24 PM
Simone (Guest): Edry, are you trained in a specific spirituality? Like Ignatian, Salesian… etc..
Dec 20, 7:25 PM
Edry Jemmott: When I lived in NYC I visited with Sis. Thomas More at St. Ignatius Retreat Center in Mahasset, NY.
Dec 20, 7:26 PM
VisitationSiste: EDRY I KNOW SISTER
Dec 20, 7:26 PM
Edry Jemmott: I am presently referring to St. Francis de Sales and St. Jane Chantal as my community of saints for the duration of my education with NTS.
Dec 20, 7:27 PM
Simone (Guest): sorry, what is NTS?
Dec 20, 7:27 PM
VisitationSiste: Q1 1. The recipient of this letter, a laywoman, seems to have undergone a conversion of some kind (a “new beginning”). Notice how St. Francis stops short of commanding her to cut out the use of musk and scent – he said he “restrained the remark.” Can this tactful way be used to influence others for the good?
Dec 20, 7:27 PM
Edry Jemmott: Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, MO.
Dec 20, 7:27 PM
Simone (Guest): thanks Edry.. sorry Sister – for the side communication
Dec 20, 7:28 PM
Edry Jemmott: So sorry.
Dec 20, 7:29 PM
Simone (Guest): I am not sure if St. Francis was tactful or rather wise. He knew that if God will convict this woman it will be much more powerful than if she just does what he is suggesting to her
Dec 20, 7:29 PM
Simone (Guest): It must be a great confirmation for her though, to read that St. Francis had already picked up on that, before she mentioned it
Dec 20, 7:30 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Sometimes people rebel against being told when they are not ready to do something?
Dec 20, 7:30 PM
Edry Jemmott: I believe so. I find St. Francis’ gentleness so revealing in this questions. It put in the frame of mind that God meets us wherever we are in our beginning.
Dec 20, 7:30 PM
Guest3182 (Guest): Good evening sister
Dec 20, 7:31 PM
Guest6077 (Guest): Dear sr susan Hi how are you? this is bettychao
Dec 20, 7:32 PM
Simone (Guest): It takes real trust in God, to give someone space to discover what God really wants from them.
Dec 20, 7:32 PM
VisitationSiste: Hi Betty and Guest 3182
Dec 20, 7:33 PM
VisitationSiste: St Francis said something similar to St Jane – to cut the frills on her dres if she was not interested in marrying again.
Dec 20, 7:33 PM
VisitationSiste: She listened right away!
Dec 20, 7:34 PM
Edry Jemmott: I believe their meeting was a divine appointment.
Dec 20, 7:34 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: So, like today, pretty clothes and perfume let people know you are interested in relationships?
Dec 20, 7:34 PM
VisitationSiste: But tact is not everyone’s strong point! Persuasion though is the style in Salesian spirituality
Dec 20, 7:34 PM
Simone (Guest): Maybe St. Jane was in a different state of her spiritual maturity that he found it appropriate to be so direct with her and more waiting with the other woman in this letter
Dec 20, 7:34 PM
VisitationSiste: I imagine so Carol
Dec 20, 7:34 PM
Guest6077 (Guest): at the christmas holiday, we see jesus as a little babe helpless and poor , and he came to love and be loved, how can we love jesus in the world today? by mother teresa of calcutta.
Dec 20, 7:34 PM
Simone (Guest): Can you elaborate on persuasion please Sister?
Dec 20, 7:35 PM
VisitationSiste: By loving each other guest 6077
Dec 20, 7:35 PM
VisitationSiste: I’ll try Simone.
Dec 20, 7:35 PM
Simone (Guest): thanks
Dec 20, 7:35 PM
Guest6077 (Guest): live simply so others may simply live. mother teresa
Dec 20, 7:36 PM
VisitationSiste: The idea is not to force or order but to gently use arguments that help people see the reason for what you are saying and accept it because you are gentle and respect their free will
Dec 20, 7:36 PM
Simone (Guest): this is basically the core of Spiritual Direction
Dec 20, 7:36 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Then they will have learned something too
Dec 20, 7:36 PM
VisitationSiste: Intersting!
Dec 20, 7:37 PM
Simone (Guest): sorry Carol Ann.. I do not understand your post
Dec 20, 7:37 PM
Edry Jemmott: I am still stuck on the word, persuasion.
Dec 20, 7:37 PM
Guest6077 (Guest): spread the love everywhere you go.let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.
Dec 20, 7:38 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: H, if you persuade so done to do something by reasoning and teaching them why, then they will have learned something and can teach others
Dec 20, 7:38 PM
Simone (Guest): I think the word ” persuasion” is used different in daily language
Dec 20, 7:38 PM
VisitationSiste: I am not sure if connotations have changed today but use the word healthy and gentle influence
Dec 20, 7:38 PM
Simone (Guest): like a midwife?
Dec 20, 7:38 PM
Edry Jemmott: That resonates with me.
Dec 20, 7:39 PM
VisitationSiste: midwife?
Dec 20, 7:39 PM
Edry Jemmott: No, the explanation on persuasion.
Dec 20, 7:39 PM
Simone (Guest): well.. a midwife helps the mother to birth her baby. But she guides – with her expertise – but the actually birthing has to be done by the mother
Dec 20, 7:40 PM
Simone (Guest): so, you can help someone ever so gently with your presence and watching the process – that a new spiritual conversion is “birthed”.
Dec 20, 7:40 PM
VisitationSiste: yes and I suppose the spiritual direction example is good too The more you read of St Francis de Sales the more his style will become clearer
Dec 20, 7:41 PM
VisitationSiste: hello Carroll
Dec 20, 7:41 PM
Guest6077 (Guest): there are no great things, only small things with great love .but those small things done with great love become source of great joy I dont do great things,I do small things with gret love, for sr susan marie from bettychao and mother teresa of calcutta.
Dec 20, 7:41 PM
VisitationSiste: Thanks Betty
Dec 20, 7:42 PM
Carroll V (Guest): Hi everyone- just catching up here
Dec 20, 7:42 PM
VisitationSiste: persuasion rather than exercising authority-
Dec 20, 7:42 PM
Simone (Guest): Hi Carroll
Dec 20, 7:42 PM
VisitationSiste: Is it any clearer?
Dec 20, 7:42 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Hi Carroll!
Dec 20, 7:42 PM
Edry Jemmott: Yes.
Dec 20, 7:43 PM
Guest3182 (Guest): yes
Dec 20, 7:44 PM
VisitationSiste: q22. Discuss this line “your pains are the pledge of much favor to come which God will show you if you persevere constantly and faithfully in your enterprise.”
Dec 20, 7:45 PM
Guest6077 (Guest): we need to find God and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness .God is the friend of silence.see how nature trees. flowers grass grow in silence. see how nature trees flowers grass grow in silence see the stars the moon and the sun how they move in silence we need silence to be able to touched souls from mother teresa of calcutta book to sr susan.
Dec 20, 7:46 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Life is not meant to be easy and we grow in struggle
Dec 20, 7:47 PM
VisitationSiste: The line reminds me I think of Mother Theresa saying when we are suffering Jesus is kissing us from the cross and we feel the thorns
Dec 20, 7:47 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Nd we know He helps us in all our struggles
Dec 20, 7:48 PM
Simone (Guest): I wonder what kind of “pains” the woman has described
Dec 20, 7:48 PM
Edry Jemmott: Travailing I think is a part of growth.
Dec 20, 7:49 PM
Guest6077 (Guest): everybody today seems to be in such a terrible rush anxious for greater developments and great riches and so on so that children have very little time for their parents. parents have a very little time for each other .and in the home begins the disruption of peace of the world
Dec 20, 7:50 PM
Carroll V (Guest): When we mortify the love of ourselves and our attachments in order for the Love of God Himself to grow in us, we make room for beautiful consolations of closer union with Jesus
Dec 20, 7:50 PM
VisitationSiste: welcome guest 2639
Dec 20, 7:50 PM
Simone (Guest): I very much agree Carroll
Dec 20, 7:50 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Yes Carroll!
Dec 20, 7:50 PM
Edry Jemmott: Yes, I concur.
Dec 20, 7:50 PM
Guest2639 (Guest): hi. what do you mean by “mortify the love”???
Dec 20, 7:51 PM
Guest6077 (Guest): the most terrible poverty is loneless and feeling of the beling unloved. mother teresa
Dec 20, 7:51 PM
Carroll V (Guest): Take an action towards letting go or separating myself from an attachment that is self serving in some way
Dec 20, 7:52 PM
Simone (Guest): A client of mine – a wonderful 40 year old successful woman -has recently felt that the Lord wants her to stop drinking alcohol. She is by no means addicted, but she hardly had a social situation without alcohol. During the whole time while she was sharing this, she was deeply crying -sobbing -. It caused her pain – to turn away from the “joy” of drinking alcohol, but the pain of disobedience was even bigger. She has not touched alcohol ever since by the way.
Dec 20, 7:53 PM
VisitationSiste: Good and real example
Dec 20, 7:53 PM
Guest6077 (Guest): if you judge people you have no time to love them. mother teresa.
Dec 20, 7:53 PM
Carroll V (Guest): That’s a beautiful example Simone.
Dec 20, 7:54 PM
Guest2639 (Guest): I judge myself too hard…
Dec 20, 7:54 PM
Guest6077 (Guest): I know God and jesus not give me anything I cant handle I just wish that he didnt trust me so much.mother teresa
Dec 20, 7:54 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: That is beautiful Simone. God will always show us the way
Dec 20, 7:55 PM
VisitationSiste: Some of us have that tendency to be too hard on ourselves St Francis would say be gentle with yourself
Dec 20, 7:55 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: I do too, Guest 2639. I wonder if we should apply the quite that if we judge we have no time to live
Dec 20, 7:55 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Sorry, the quote
Dec 20, 7:56 PM
Guest6077 (Guest): kind words can be short and easy to speak but their echoes are truly endless.
Dec 20, 7:57 PM
VisitationSiste: 3. St. Francis instructs Madame du Terte to give her scents/perfumes to another woman. If she is supposed to renounce the use of these, what good is it to give them to someone else?
Dec 20, 7:58 PM
Guest2639 (Guest): most attachments are self serving…
Dec 20, 7:58 PM
Guest3182 (Guest): she feels good about herself
Dec 20, 7:59 PM
Edry Jemmott: Perhaps, those gifts would not be a stumbling block for the woman. She could have a healthy admiration for them. Maybe, that was not the case with the woman he’s speaking with.
Dec 20, 7:59 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Some good might come to the second woman because she has them and Madame would have practiced detachment
Dec 20, 7:59 PM
Simone (Guest): yes, they are Guest 2639, but the same thing that can be a self serving attachment for one person, can be a ” peace of freedom” to another.
Dec 20, 8:00 PM
Edry Jemmott: So, very true.
Dec 20, 8:00 PM
VisitationSiste: and what else could she do with them?
Dec 20, 8:01 PM
Carroll V (Guest): Perhaps this is a way of saying that nothing is wrong with the scents and perfumes in and of themselves, but she has a certain readiness and call to move on from them…
Dec 20, 8:01 PM
VisitationSiste: I guess choose her recipient wisely
Dec 20, 8:01 PM
VisitationSiste: Good point Carroll
Dec 20, 8:02 PM
Guest2639 (Guest): it’s difficult to know if something is going to be a stumbing block for someone else.
Dec 20, 8:02 PM
Simone (Guest): I agree. That is often really not easy.
Dec 20, 8:03 PM
Edry Jemmott: We learn from our mistakes.
Dec 20, 8:03 PM
Guest2639 (Guest): yes, and sometimes years too late.
Dec 20, 8:03 PM
Carroll V (Guest): Please, God
Dec 20, 8:04 PM
Guest6077 (Guest): prayer makes you heart bigger until it is capable of containing the gift of God himself.
Dec 20, 8:04 PM
VisitationSiste: q4 Saint Francis instructs to “speak as one who is a stranger in this world.” Does this contradict the idea of enculturation and speaking the language of the people in order to reach them?
Dec 20, 8:05 PM
Guest2639 (Guest): no. I think it just means to be inquisative.
Dec 20, 8:05 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: No, because we still have to be understandable. People have to be able to relate to us, yet we must still be different
Dec 20, 8:06 PM
Edry Jemmott: This sounds like what was taking place on the Road to Emaeus where Jesus appeared to be a stranger and wanted to hear their story.
Dec 20, 8:06 PM
VisitationSiste: I don’t think it has anything to do with inculturation but rather that we are citizens of heaven!
Dec 20, 8:07 PM
Guest6077 (Guest): without a spirit of sacrifice with out a life prayer without an intimate attitude of pennance we would not be capabled of carrying out our work.
Dec 20, 8:07 PM
Guest2639 (Guest): you can’t really be mad at someone if you’re asking them questions and learning about them. And by asking them questions you help someone learn about themself also.
Dec 20, 8:07 PM
Simone (Guest): People crave heaven. They just do not really know how to get there. If our language can give them a glimpse of the Joy and Peace that is awaiting them.. let’s do it
Dec 20, 8:08 PM
Guest6077 (Guest): sr susan my sister monica is worry about did you get the any package my sister monica is worry about that.
Dec 20, 8:08 PM
Guest2639 (Guest): God can give us healing words, if we just remember to ask God to guide our tongue.
Dec 20, 8:08 PM
VisitationSiste: No I did not get the package We have terrible mail service.
Dec 20, 8:09 PM
Guest6077 (Guest): ok i will let my sister monica know ok thanks let us know.
Dec 20, 8:10 PM
VisitationSiste: Sometimes we talk of worldly things but we can insert a spiritual element to it sometimes
Dec 20, 8:10 PM
Edry Jemmott: Yes.
Dec 20, 8:10 PM
VisitationSiste: That can move others along in their growth too
Dec 20, 8:10 PM
Simone (Guest): sorry ladies, but I just remembered a funny episode, years ago in Austria.. the Church had a little Advent gathering for Children – with play time and so on.. It was meant to be an outreach to unchurched families mostly.. to invite them with their children.. A friend of mine overheard a mother asking her little boy, if he liked the afternoon . He answered” Yes, I had great fun. But you know what? No-one was swearing the whole time”.. he was puzzled by this.
Dec 20, 8:10 PM
Guest6077 (Guest): I did have zoom with santa claus during this month christmas before. I was tell him about st nick is our catholic bishop saints
Dec 20, 8:10 PM
Guest2639 (Guest): I think mail service is slow everywhere right now… maybe God is trying to teach the whole world patience…
Dec 20, 8:10 PM
VisitationSiste: That’s an example Simone!
Dec 20, 8:11 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: That is so funny. The parents were probably embarrassed
Dec 20, 8:11 PM
Guest2639 (Guest): lol
Dec 20, 8:11 PM
Simone (Guest): probably Carol .. or maybe puzzled too ???
Dec 20, 8:11 PM
VisitationSiste: Children are amazing- it’slike the story about the emperor’s new clothes!
Dec 20, 8:12 PM
Simone (Guest): yes. children pick up on the smallest thing.. good or bad.
Dec 20, 8:12 PM
VisitationSiste: Usually when retreatants came her they were surprised when we had talking at table that we did not speak exclusively about spiritualthings
Dec 20, 8:13 PM
Guest6077 (Guest): sr susan I will visit you when the covid 19 is over I dont know when is over but I will have paitent to wait for the covid 19 over I will come to nyc to visit you. becuase everytime I was watch ewtn you interview by Father match packwa.
Dec 20, 8:13 PM
Simone (Guest): This reminds me of these famous words of St. Francis.. Always speak about Jesus.. if necessary use his name
Dec 20, 8:14 PM
Simone (Guest): I assume you conveyed very much spirituality in your talks, that’s just what happens when people who are committed to holiness speak – but the topic was not necessarily spiritually
Dec 20, 8:15 PM
Guest2639 (Guest): God created everything, so to talk about anything is to talk about God…
Dec 20, 8:15 PM
Simone (Guest): “those who have ears… listen”
Dec 20, 8:16 PM
Carroll V (Guest): Simplicity can be such an unexpected surprise in this world
Dec 20, 8:16 PM
Simone (Guest): yes. Simplicity can be a powerful witness. It is in one way the language of detachment
Dec 20, 8:16 PM
Guest2639 (Guest): ?
Dec 20, 8:17 PM
Simone (Guest): sorry.. was I confusing Guest 2639?
Dec 20, 8:17 PM
VisitationSiste: another key virtue for St Francis de Sales
Dec 20, 8:18 PM
Guest6077 (Guest): sr susan have you see my letter? I say I will come to nyc to visit you when the covid 19 is all over everything is save. I always watch you interview by father match packwa. i watch that show everyday I watch you another interview talk about st francis desales in my youtube computer .
Dec 20, 8:18 PM
Guest6077 (Guest): this letter for sr susan from betty
Dec 20, 8:19 PM
Guest2639 (Guest): How is simplicity the language of detachment???
Dec 20, 8:20 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: If we speak only what is necessary, our pride cannot get in the way
Dec 20, 8:20 PM
VisitationSiste: OK Betty!
Dec 20, 8:20 PM
Simone (Guest): oh.. I meant, if you are progressively getting more and more detached from “things you need to be happy” and rather to turn to GOD to receive this happiness from him.. then you start more and more living a life of simplicity
Dec 20, 8:20 PM
VisitationSiste: last q 5. It seems that this new beginning that St. Francis is talking about might be a promise of some kind, although not necessarily a vow. What kind of abnegations, or self-denials, should we be undertaking?
Dec 20, 8:21 PM
Guest2639 (Guest): hmmmm
Dec 20, 8:22 PM
Guest2639 (Guest): being around negative people who curse…
Dec 20, 8:23 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Is that self denial or self preservation 😊
Dec 20, 8:23 PM
Guest2639 (Guest): preservation.
Dec 20, 8:23 PM
Guest3182 (Guest): reduce our material wants
Dec 20, 8:24 PM
Guest6077 (Guest): I was share a book to you is a spiritual book from mother teresa st teresa of calcutta that book name call Do something beautiful for God and I got another book is name call I heard God laugh written by matthew kelly those two books I buy from my church parish we all go to st elizabeth ann seton catholic parish closed to rowland hights colima our home. mom and me we go to afternoon mass 3pm is a chinese mandiren lunguage mass.
Dec 20, 8:24 PM
VisitationSiste: deny our own will for God’s Will
Dec 20, 8:24 PM
Guest2639 (Guest): Not having 10 cups of hot chocolate (just 9)
Dec 20, 8:24 PM
Simone (Guest): lol
Dec 20, 8:25 PM
Carroll V (Guest): That sums it up, in all simplicity!
Dec 20, 8:25 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: I know where that is Betty Chao. I grew up in St Bruno in Whittier
Dec 20, 8:25 PM
Guest2639 (Guest): Isn’t Colima in Mexico?
Dec 20, 8:25 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: You and I have so much in common 2369

VisitationSiste: Here
Dec 20, 8:27 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: I grew up there, but live farther North now
Dec 20, 8:27 PM
Simone (Guest): the way you worded that right now Sister Susan, made me realize that – when our will is aligned with His will.. we actually never have to deny our will – for His will.
Dec 20, 8:27 PM
Guest6077 (Guest): oh that is wonderful God is do a wonderful job let me be you neighbor in the chat.
Dec 20, 8:28 PM
Guest2639 (Guest): I wish I could get good Chinese food. I don’t like being forcefully denied Chinese food just because I live in Louisiana and there don’t seem to be any Chinese cooks here.
Dec 20, 8:28 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: He is amazing that way Bettychao
Dec 20, 8:28 PM
VisitationSiste: Thanks Simone. Thank you all for being here tonight. Have a very blessed week and Christmas!

Carroll V (Guest): Blessed week and Christmas everyone- Thank you for being here each week! You are a blessing!
Dec 20, 8:29 PM
Guest2639 (Guest): “when our will is aligned with His will” we don’t have anything to get mad about, because everything that is happening is God’s will… otherwize it wouldn’t be happening.
Dec 20, 8:30 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Amen! And let us look for the Christmas Star
Dec 20, 8:30 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: It is supposed to be visible tomorrow
Dec 20, 8:31 PM
Guest2639 (Guest): !
Dec 20, 8:31 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Yes, the conjunction of the moon, Jupiter and Saturn at sundown
Dec 20, 8:35 PM
Guest2639 (Guest): I can’t wait to try to find it!
Dec 20, 8:36 PM
