VisitationSiste: Hi!
Dec 27, 7:27 PM
VisitationSiste: My dear Sir and Son,This same solemnity of the great feast of Christmas which almost deprives me of the hope of seeing you again gives me sufficient confidence to appeal to you on behalf of this poor man whom I am bound to love in charity and also because of the good example he gave of his faith and uprightness while he lived in the Gex region where he was subject to persecution in spite of his innocence. He will explain his poverty in his appeal to you, and if you are unable to do as he begs, he presents a

VisitationSiste: Q1 1. This was the last letter that Saint Francis wrote before his death. Though known for his intellect, what does this show us about the pastoral nature of Bishop [Saint] Francis de Sales?
Dec 27, 7:30 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Good evening everyone!
Dec 27, 7:30 PM
VisitationSiste: Hi! Merry Christmas and Blessed Feast of Holy Family!

Dec 27, 7:35 PM
VisitationSiste: Actually I think St Francis was known equally as a pastoral Bishop not only for intellect
Dec 27, 7:35 PM
VisitationSiste: Hi Carroll
Dec 27, 7:36 PM
VisitationSiste: I’ve read many letters of his but actually this was the first time I read this one. Can you imagine with all his responsibilities he was helping someone get a job?
Dec 27, 7:37 PM
Guest3204 (Guest): the person may have asked him for help
Dec 27, 7:37 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Yes, it sounds like what a good bishop would do
Dec 27, 7:38 PM
VisitationSiste: welcome Karen
Dec 27, 7:39 PM
VisitationSiste: Yes, simple letter but heartfelt too
Dec 27, 7:39 PM
bettychao (Guest): I was studied my own bibles and listen the gaspel of matthew is a audio cd talk by Dr scott hahn and I hear dr scott say catholic bible and prostand bible is the same book same bible so I studied catholic bible and prostant bible becuase is say the samething and mom say why we buy you the bible is tell you learn anything about jesus and what would jesus do to change you life and what you should do live you action life more christian and more faithful person.
Dec 27, 7:40 PM
VisitationSiste: Q2 2. Saint Francis was a champion of the Catholic “Counter-Reformation,” defending the truth of the Catholic faith during the early days of the Protestant Reformation. However, what does this letter tell us about the heart of the Gospel message?
Dec 27, 7:40 PM
Guest3204 (Guest): love your neighbour as you love yourself
Dec 27, 7:41 PM
Karen (Guest): Works of mercy are important.
Dec 27, 7:42 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: To live for God, to do His will
Dec 27, 7:42 PM
VisitationSiste: Yes charity and outreach and extending oneself for others
Dec 27, 7:43 PM
Karen (Guest): His will seems often to simply love people that he puts in our path… but that’s not simple to do!
Dec 27, 7:44 PM
VisitationSiste: There are inner obstacles in all of us
Dec 27, 7:44 PM
Karen (Guest): How do you forgive someone who has really done you wrong???
Dec 27, 7:45 PM
Karen (Guest): That’s a. HUGE obstacle!
Dec 27, 7:45 PM
VisitationSiste: Jesus has the answer to that as He did it and so did St Stephen, but I do not think it is easy
Dec 27, 7:46 PM
VisitationSiste: I think one way of looking at it is to not look at the wrong done but at the person who did it, asfrail or why would they do a wrong to another- that’s one way
Dec 27, 7:46 PM
VisitationSiste: frail can mean spiritually frail
Dec 27, 7:46 PM
VisitationSiste: unless it is pure evil and even that is spirtual weakness
Dec 27, 7:46 PM
Karen (Guest): thx
Dec 27, 7:47 PM
Simone (Guest): Hi to all. and sorry for being late
Dec 27, 7:47 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Because people act out of their own issues and not always in malicious intent

Dec 27, 7:49 PM
Karen (Guest): how lucky to see so many holy places!
Dec 27, 7:49 PM
VisitationSiste: yes wonderful!
Dec 27, 7:49 PM
VisitationSiste: Q 3 3. How does Christmas teach us about helping the poor?
Dec 27, 7:50 PM
Guest3204 (Guest): Jesus was born in a stable, shows us
Dec 27, 7:50 PM
Karen (Guest): It brings out the spirit of giving in some people.
Dec 27, 7:51 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: We remember that Christ and his family were poor too, needing food and shelter. How we welcome strangers is how we welcome them
Dec 27, 7:51 PM
bettychao (Guest): sr susan when I call my friend from the hollywood and he live in hollywood and he is very rude to me and dont treated me nice and becuase him I was been crazy and upset in the days what should I do to make me relax and happy can you think about something to make me not so crying please sr susan
Dec 27, 7:52 PM
VisitationSiste: Think about how Jesus loves you Betty
Dec 27, 7:52 PM
Simone (Guest): God so loved the World.. that He gave His own son… So.. since we are God’s children ( estranged or not from Him)
Dec 27, 7:52 PM
Simone (Guest): to look away from a poor person – is like to look away from GOD
Dec 27, 7:53 PM
VisitationSiste: and there are people who are poor emotionally or spiritually too
Dec 27, 7:53 PM
Simone (Guest): when my daughter was small – the biggest joy you could give me- was to do something that would make my daughter happy.. so when we love the poor – we love God
Dec 27, 7:53 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Yet we do it so often, passing people sitting in doorways
Dec 27, 7:53 PM
Simone (Guest): yes.. thanks for pointing that out Sr. Susan.
Dec 27, 7:54 PM
Simone (Guest): I often felt guilty, that I am not doing more for homeless people in our city ( there are many ministries here).. but I immediately give my time and resources if someone is spiritually poor
Dec 27, 7:55 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: And we all fit in the spiritually and emotionally poor category. It is good to recall the sermon on the mount
Dec 27, 7:55 PM
bettychao (Guest): I have some people is accept me an d treated me so friendly and they all told me to pratice love and forgive and forget and think someone love you look we are love you and care about you think that is my other friends tell me when I crying out.
Dec 27, 7:55 PM
Simone (Guest): well.. that kind of Spiritual poor.. I am still working towards daily
Dec 27, 7:55 PM
Karen (Guest): betty, it seems like that person might not be a friend… not a good friend. My best friends respect me and treat me nicely, how I want to be treated.
Dec 27, 7:56 PM
VisitationSiste: There are somany homeless in our country I have wondered if there is a congregation of religious specifically founded to help the homeless
Dec 27, 7:57 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Oh, Mother Teresa’s order?
Dec 27, 7:57 PM
bettychao (Guest): I call my another friends from taiwan say we all care about you and love you and we will pray for you and we treated you nice from betty to sr susan
Dec 27, 7:57 PM
Simone (Guest): we have here a religious order.. affiliated with the Franciscan I think
Dec 27, 7:58 PM
Guest3204 (Guest): St Vincent de paul
Dec 27, 7:59 PM
Guest3204 (Guest): our parishes help the poor with St Vincent de Paul
Dec 27, 7:59 PM
bettychao (Guest): sr susan have you see my letter that my friends from taiwan told me what do you think.
Dec 27, 7:59 PM
VisitationSiste: q 4 4. How are spiritual works of mercy also a form of helping “the poor”?
Dec 27, 7:59 PM
Karen (Guest): Many homeless people wouldn’t be homeless if they would play by the rules of shelters… (staying away from drugs, being in by a certain time…)
Dec 27, 7:59 PM
VisitationSiste: Yes but I am not clear about what you are asking Betty
Dec 27, 8:00 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: That’s big problem Karen. People need the help but do not want to change
Dec 27, 8:01 PM
VisitationSiste: Maybe we need to list the spiritual works of mercy?
Dec 27, 8:01 PM
Guest3204 (Guest): what are spiritual works of mercy
Dec 27, 8:01 PM
Karen (Guest): If you can help a “poor” person accept Jesus as their savior, sometimes that can help them get away from their addiction.
Dec 27, 8:02 PM
VisitationSiste: o instruct the ignorant.
To counsel the doubtful.
To admonish the sinners.
To bear patiently those who wrong us.
To forgive offenses.
To comfort the afflicted.
To pray for the living and the dead.
Dec 27, 8:02 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, caring for the sick
Dec 27, 8:02 PM
VisitationSiste: Betty can you repeat the question you asked me
Dec 27, 8:03 PM
Karen (Guest): I find corporal works easier.
Dec 27, 8:03 PM
VisitationSiste: I think the spiritual works of mercy relate to what we said before about emotional needs etc
Dec 27, 8:03 PM
bettychao (Guest): I say when I was crying about my friend from hollywood how he treated me so rude and I told all this things to my teacher my teacher tell me pratice love and forgive and forget and think about they have someone love you and I care about you and love you and you have some friends from taiwan we all love you and care about you. and most important is God love you too just learn to forgive and pray for him and forget all about it that is my teacher teach me.
Dec 27, 8:04 PM
VisitationSiste: Yes but it is not easy to do without God’s grace so first you need to ask Jesus to give you the grace to follow this advice Betty
Dec 27, 8:04 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Oh. Yes, I was thinking of all the works instead of just spiritual
Dec 27, 8:04 PM
Karen (Guest): I find these two very difficult: To bear patiently those who wrong us.
To forgive offenses.
Dec 27, 8:05 PM
VisitationSiste: For all of these we need God’s grace we can’t do it on our own strength
Dec 27, 8:05 PM
VisitationSiste: until we have grown in that virtue and even then God’s grace is flowing
Dec 27, 8:05 PM
Simone (Guest): so true
Dec 27, 8:05 PM
VisitationSiste: I think we do some of the spiritual works of mercy right here in this chat
Dec 27, 8:06 PM
VisitationSiste: not that we are “ignorant” but we do enlighten each other
Dec 27, 8:06 PM
Carroll V (Guest): Amen
Dec 27, 8:07 PM
Simone (Guest): <3
Dec 27, 8:07 PM
VisitationSiste: don’t know that symbol!
Dec 27, 8:07 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: We also strengthen each other
Dec 27, 8:07 PM
Karen (Guest): Some times you have to limit the time you spend with someone who is hurtful. ‘loving’ a neighbor doesn’t mean that person has to be in your life… you can love someone from a distance, so that they can’t hurt you… like you enjoy a tiger at the zoo…
Dec 27, 8:07 PM
Simone (Guest): so sorry.. it usually translates into a heart
Dec 27, 8:07 PM
Karen (Guest): ♡
Dec 27, 8:07 PM
bettychao (Guest): jesus say forgive eachother and love eachother and you will touched the spirit by the holy ghost
Dec 27, 8:07 PM
VisitationSiste: oh! neer knew that
Dec 27, 8:08 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Yes Karen
Dec 27, 8:08 PM
Karen (Guest): The Bible also says something like don’t hang out with a fool. What he is doing, hurting you, is foolish.
Dec 27, 8:09 PM
Guest3204 (Guest): not to speak bad about others fall into spiritual mercy
Dec 27, 8:09 PM
bettychao (Guest): I was ask jesus and those religious spiritual saints to help me have that grace to forgive that friend hurt me and I did so that make me so relax and want to forgive him.
Dec 27, 8:09 PM
VisitationSiste: Ruth are you still here? Hoping you are doing ok
Dec 27, 8:10 PM
Karen (Guest): “those religious spiritual saints” which ones???
Dec 27, 8:11 PM
bettychao (Guest): sr susan I did pray jesus and those religious spiritual saints from the church to help me teach me to forgive and forget for those people treated me hateful rude when i did that i felt so happy relax and my blood sugar is relax sr susan.
Dec 27, 8:12 PM
bettychao (Guest): I want hear what you say to me sr susan about that situation.bettychao
Dec 27, 8:12 PM
VisitationSiste: That’s wonderful Betty which saints did you pray to
Dec 27, 8:12 PM
VisitationSiste: They interceded for you
Dec 27, 8:12 PM
VisitationSiste: q 5 5. Though we are called to always be ready to do works of mercy, what does it mean that they “are in season at this time which is dedicated to the sovereign mercy shown to us by the Son of God when he was born on earth for our salvation”?
Dec 27, 8:13 PM
VisitationSiste: Uniting with Jesus’s great work of salvation by giving ourselves and being born anew within
Dec 27, 8:13 PM
VisitationSiste: That can be one way of seeing it
Dec 27, 8:13 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: We should be paying especial attention to what Jesus has given us, and in gratitude share those blessings
Dec 27, 8:13 PM
bettychao (Guest): our asian chinese church saints but i forgot their name but they are spiritual church saints that is help me I hear they have alot of chinese asian become a saints from our church but first I pray to jesus the divine mercy.
Dec 27, 8:14 PM
bettychao (Guest): i need to hear from you what you say to me sr susan
Dec 27, 8:15 PM
Simone (Guest): not insisting on status – demanding what we might get – but forgetting ourselves – and in love bow down to the other – wherever the other needs help to find GOD. In typical Salesian way – to serve with humility
Dec 27, 8:16 PM
Karen (Guest): sometimes I get so caught up in things that I forget that Jesus died for our sins… that is such a blessing for us… I need to be more greatful.
Dec 27, 8:17 PM
Karen (Guest): Like the Salasian teaching on poverty, not seeking anything…
Dec 27, 8:17 PM
Simone (Guest): the season really does refer to an outpouring of gratitude – as we are so reminded – HOW much we have received – out of grace and not through any or our own doing
Dec 27, 8:17 PM
bettychao (Guest): simone what do you say to me can you explane to me again .bettychao
Dec 27, 8:17 PM
VisitationSiste: ask for nothing refuse nothing?
Dec 27, 8:18 PM
VisitationSiste: Which Asian saints Betty?
Dec 27, 8:18 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Sr. Susan, that sounds like what I was taught
Dec 27, 8:19 PM
Guest3204 (Guest): to help people without anythingg in return
Dec 27, 8:19 PM
Simone (Guest): I was never taught ” ask for nothing refuse nothing” – but boy- does that ever sound like “true lived humility”..
Dec 27, 8:20 PM
Simone (Guest): bettychao.. I am sorry but I do not know what you are referring to
Dec 27, 8:20 PM
bettychao (Guest): I forgot the saints name I dont remenber too many asian become our church saints that is our church father say, but first i pray to jesus divine mercy
Dec 27, 8:20 PM
Simone (Guest): I once read – “when we help people – and expect something in return – then we are not practicing kindness but business”
Dec 27, 8:20 PM
VisitationSiste: That’s the best thing to do Betty!
Dec 27, 8:21 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: It is hard, because you have to wait for people to notice what you need and then help. Sometimes you just have to ask, it be willing to give up your own needs
Dec 27, 8:21 PM
Karen (Guest): I guess I practice business then…
Dec 27, 8:21 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: But we should give kindness for kindness
Dec 27, 8:22 PM
Simone (Guest): Karen.. I did not write that in any answer to your comments. in fact I do not even know – what you wrote. Please do not take that in any way personal
Dec 27, 8:22 PM
VisitationSiste: Welcome Ann
Dec 27, 8:23 PM
VisitationSiste: q 6 6. This is a letter of recommendation meant to help a poor and yet deserving worker. How can we help others in a similar way?
Dec 27, 8:23 PM
Karen (Guest): I don’t. But it made me realize that I do usually seek something in return… I need to work on that.
Dec 27, 8:23 PM
Karen (Guest): we should also give kindness for non-kindness.
Dec 27, 8:23 PM
bettychao (Guest): simone you say not insisting on status demanding what we might get but for getting oursleves and in love bow down to othwe what ever the other need help to find God. in typical salesian way to serve the humility what is that mean I have to know can you tell me. bettychao
Dec 27, 8:24 PM
Simone (Guest): I have a card here in my living room that says ” Radical lovers cannot lose”… it is my daily invitation to surrender to give myself freely to those around me. Notice.. not that I am successful every day
Dec 27, 8:24 PM
Karen (Guest): I like that card!
Dec 27, 8:25 PM
Karen (Guest): We can help people to network with other people that might be able to help them.
Dec 27, 8:25 PM
Guest3204 (Guest): to find help for from others
Dec 27, 8:26 PM
VisitationSiste: and introducing our friends to other friends
Dec 27, 8:26 PM
Simone (Guest): bettychao.. I meant – that this is what Jesus did. He did not insist on being a distant GOD only – He gave up His heavenly status and came down.. becoming creation – and with very low status too. The Christmas Season can invite us to also “give up our status” – whatever that might be – and meet our neighbour – at his/her level – spiritually, socially, academically – to remove any barrier that could hinder the flow of real love
Dec 27, 8:26 PM
Karen (Guest): I just read that: The Martyr Saints of China, or Augustine Zhao Rong and his 119 companions, are saints of the Catholic Church.
Dec 27, 8:28 PM
Karen (Guest): “to remove any barrier that could hinder the flow of real love”. interesting.
Dec 27, 8:28 PM
Simone (Guest): Since you are all talking about networking.. when I was a business woman.. I ran a monthly group called B2B – which usually stands for “business to business” – but for me it stood for “Blessed to be a blessing” – and we did bible studies on how to do business in a godly way
Dec 27, 8:29 PM
Simone (Guest): I miss this group
Dec 27, 8:29 PM
Karen (Guest): This person who gives me trouble is Extremely different than me… different morals… but we both (probably) like Christmas.
Dec 27, 8:29 PM
Simone (Guest): so there is a tiny common denominator, Karen
Dec 27, 8:30 PM
Karen (Guest): Yes, Very tiny!
Dec 27, 8:30 PM
Simone (Guest): we got to start somewhere, right ?
Dec 27, 8:30 PM
Karen (Guest): I like that B2B! what a great idea!
Dec 27, 8:30 PM
VisitationSiste: May each of you be blessed in the NEW YEAR!
Dec 27, 8:30 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Simone, what a great idea!
Dec 27, 8:31 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: God bless you Sr Dysan!
Dec 27, 8:31 PM
Guest3204 (Guest): thanks sister
Dec 27, 8:31 PM
Karen (Guest): Maybe you could do a B2B on facebook?
Dec 27, 8:31 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Sorry, Sr Susan
Dec 27, 8:31 PM
Simone (Guest): Blessings to you Sister Susan and to all of you in the New Year! This group has a special place in my heart. I feel so grateful that I am allowed to join.
Dec 27, 8:31 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: I could. I’ve been thinking of livestreaming seminars, so could do that too
Dec 27, 8:32 PM
Karen (Guest): May God bless you too Sister! ♡
Dec 27, 8:32 PM
Simone (Guest): hmm.. interesting thought to pick B2B up again on facebook.
Dec 27, 8:32 PM
Carroll V (Guest): Thank you everyone- We are blessed to have you Simone!
Dec 27, 8:32 PM
Carroll V (Guest): Have a truly blessed week!
Dec 27, 8:32 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Zoom is good too, but attendees flake
Dec 27, 8:32 PM
Simone (Guest): thanks Carroll. I wish we all could meet one day in person
Dec 27, 8:32 PM
Carroll V (Guest): That would be wonderful
Dec 27, 8:32 PM
Simone (Guest): Good night everyone
Dec 27, 8:33 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Happy New Year everyone! May God bless you abundantly
Dec 27, 8:33 PM
Carroll V (Guest): … maybe a retreat some day…
Dec 27, 8:33 PM
Karen (Guest): that would be neat if we would get together more often… I really like this group.
Dec 27, 8:33 PM
Carroll V (Guest): Good night for now.
Dec 27, 8:33 PM
Karen (Guest): It’s very helpful.
Dec 27, 8:33 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: A new year’s dream, to meet in Brooklyn
Dec 27, 8:34 PM
Karen (Guest): It’s nice chatting with decent people and realizing what I need to work on.
Dec 27, 8:34 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: We all need work on something!
Dec 27, 8:34 PM
Karen (Guest): cold up there! How about y’all come down to Louisiana!!!

Dec 27, 8:37 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Oh, that sounds like fun
Dec 27, 8:38 PM
Karen (Guest): It does!
Dec 27, 8:38 PM
Ruth (Guest): God bless all of you. I lost my connection, but got to “listen in” on part of the chat.
Dec 27, 8:38 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Hi Ruth!
Dec 27, 8:39 PM
Karen (Guest): Hi. We talked about the need to be greatful. and forgive.
Dec 27, 8:39 PM
bettychao (Guest): thanks and I have to leave God bless
Dec 27, 8:39 PM
bettychao (Guest): bettychao
Dec 27, 8:39 PM
Karen (Guest): Surround yourself with NICE people!
Dec 27, 8:40 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Bless you Betty!
Dec 27, 8:41 PM
Karen (Guest): I like Tony Robbins. I don’t know if he’s Catholic, but he talks about being happy… good content.
Dec 27, 8:41 PM
Ruth (Guest): Hi Carol Ann. Do you remember that years ago we talked about all meeting at the Monastery in Brooklyn. Sr. Susan even thought there might be some funds available for those who needed it to travel there. But somehow, even before COVID those plans fizzled out. I know the Brooklyn monastery has been struggling to stay in existence. But somehow they got past one “deadline” they had, which was, I seem to remember, last year in September.
Dec 27, 8:41 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: I’m not sure

Ruth (Guest): Karen, really important topics. Not sure how that relates to SFdS’s final letter, however. It was such an act of kindness and charity, to a deserving man — to make as sure as he could that the man had work.

Karen (Guest): true. we kinda got side tracked.

Carol Ann Chybowski: Not much there to talk about for St Francis, probably because I don’t know enough
Dec 27, 8:47 PM

Karen (Guest): I like the story about Mary telling Jesus that he shouldn’t turn a clay bird into a real bird… not in the Bible, but it’s a fun story.

Carol Ann Chybowski: Me too. Do you remember the movie A Child Called Jesus? It showed many of those stories
Dec 27, 8:54 PM
Ruth (Guest): Karen, thanks for the link. That’s one of my favorites, too. And Mary probably had no idea of the hardships that Holy Family would have to endure — or that her baby boy –the miracle worker/teacher — would be executed like a common criminal. Karen (Guest): There’s a movie “the donkey who knelt”… I haven’t seen it since I was a child. But it was so cute with the donkey kneeling when Jesus was born.
Dec 27, 8:58 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: I would live it too
Dec 27, 8:59 PM
Ruth (Guest): I don’t know the movie, but I bought on sale in the Dollar Store and read a book titled something like The Young Jesus and alterantely titled Something like The Years in Egypt by an author who seems to have captured the realities of the time, place and personalities very believably.
Dec 27, 8:59 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Another one that hasn’t been on in a while is the Kristofferson movie Miracle in the Wilderness
Dec 27, 8:59 PM
Carol Ann Chybowski: Was that Anne Rice?
