The process of beatification of Léonie Martin, the sister of Sainte-Thérèse of Lisieux, has just taken a new step. Father Laurent Berthout, episcopal delegate for information of the diocese of Bayeux Lisieux, indicates this Thursday, May 13 in a tweet. “The Congregation for the Causes of Saints has recognized the validity of the diocesan process of the Servant of God, Léonie Martin. The examination of her virtues could make it possible to declare her venerable”.

The diocesan investigation lasted five years and ended in February 2020 at the monastery of the Visitation, in Caen. A delegation from Rome made the trip. Léonie Martin rests in the heart of this monastery of the Visitation. During the investigation her coffin must have been opened and her body remained almost intact. After her parents Louis and Zélie, canonized in 2015, Léonie could in turn be venerable to allow her to be beatified by the Pope, with a view to a future canonization.

Léonie Martin will have to be at the origin of a miracle (for the beatification), then of a second, for her holiness to be recognized.

The process of canonization –

Servant of God: end of the inquiry process in the diocese.

– Venerable when the virtues are recognized by the congregation for the cause of the saints.

– Beatification: need for 1 miracle.

– Canonization: need for 1 miracle.
