In our commentary on John, 19.

To concentrate a little bit

now especially,

the day after the feast

of the Blessed Sacrament.

On the beginning of chapter 13 of Saint John

that I am reading to you.

“Before the feast of the Passover,

Jesus knowing that his time had come

to pass from this world to the Father

who loved his own

who were in the world,

loved them until the end.

This is what is very important

this introduction.

He loved us until the end.

We could translate “to the extreme”

And there is manifested in a very sober way

this love

until the extreme

by which he will deliver himself

up to food for us,

food and drink

in the Eucharist

And it is, in fact,

even if John himself

does not speak about it at that time.

During this meal,

he is going to institute the Eucharist.

The sacrament of the Eucharist

So this love until the end

by which he surrenders himself

in the Eucaristie.

And it is also

during this moment that John,

the beloved disciple,

will rest on the heart of Jesus

and in a way.

By perceiving the beating of this heart,

probing the mystery,

unspeakable,

of the heart of Jesus,

of the heart of the word

which was made flesh.

In fact, it is there

that Jean will make a discovery

that will upset him.

Maybe until then

John was with the other disciples

fascinated by the power of Jesus,

the miracles he did, especially

the resurrection of Lazarus

which is a huge miracle.

There is only John who speaks of it,

so he was there, he witnessed it.

He may have been fascinated

by the teachings of Jesus.

But there he made

a new discovery.

By being very close to Jesus

and having perceived

that Jesus at one point

is upset. This we read.

In verse 21 of chapter 13.

Jesus was troubled in his spirit

and testified to the truth.

Truly I tell you,

one of you will deliver me.

And so John, who was very close to

the heart of Jesus, had to.

perceive this confusion,

this upheaval

to the depths

of Jesus’ bowels,

and then he understood that the one whom

he admired until now

and whom he glimpsed

can be a little confused,

like the son of God,

like the Messiah of Israel,

like the King of Israel,

is at the same time

vulnerable, like the lamb

that will be slain in a few hours.

It is perhaps this discovery

that he made there at that time,

and which allowed him to stay up

to the foot of the cross,

so as not to leave Jesus.

He is the first comforter.

We know that in

Paray-le-Monial’s message .

Marguerite-Marie receives

the mission to console

the heart of Jesus in the face

of all ingratitudes.

Well, we have in this

episode of chapter 13

the 2 poles if you will,

the height of ingratitude,

and the first consolation,

the height of ingratitude,

obviously, is the betrayal of Judas.

But John who remains near Jesus

until the next day

still near the cross,

and he who remains,

who is the friend, who consoles.

There you have it, we have made a very small foray

into chapter 13 to clearly perceive

the importance of what John

discovers the day before

his presence at Golgotha

where he will see the piercing.
