Related to that, the note in the text tells us that this woman eventually was swayed by Jansenism for a time. Essentially, this is a belief that God’s grace makes an effect on us without an assent from our free will and that God can dictate our futures in this way. This is a heresy. What makes this wrong? Don’t we need God’s grace in order to do anything?
How might God being Father help dispel this idea of Jansenism?

Jun 19, 7:31 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): Hi Carol

Jun 19, 7:31 PM

Dawn (Guest): We missed you

Jun 19, 7:31 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): How was the chat

Jun 19, 7:31 PM

Carol (Guest): Hi Sr Susan, hi Dawn

Jun 19, 7:32 PM

Dawn (Guest): Hi Carol!

Jun 19, 7:32 PM

Dawn (Guest): Im trying to recall our topics last week. need to look

Jun 19, 7:33 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): That’s ok I figured it probably was a good one I missed!

Jun 19, 7:33 PM

Carol (Guest): I’m having the same issue but it was a good chat. I bet Simone remembers

Jun 19, 7:33 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): Tonight sort of ties in with Father’s Day

Jun 19, 7:33 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): Did Simone lead?

Sr Susan (Guest): First q :What is the signficance of these familiar terms, “father” and “daughter” that we use in our faith? Are they just formal niceties?

Jun 19, 7:35 PM

Carol (Guest): They could be, if they are just used as cultural titles

 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): bur actually they are theological, no?

Jun 19, 7:36 PM

Dawn (Guest): all we just wrote mysteriously disappeared. ok. I think of them more than niceties. they are endearing, closer, Gods love

Jun 19, 7:36 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): based of course on our experience as humans

:36 PM

Dawn (Guest): of course, they must be theological

Jun 19, 7:36 PM

Carol (Guest): They are theological too, but most people dont knowvit

:37 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): is that because of poor catechesis

 7:37 PM

Dawn (Guest): I would say yes

Jun 19, 7:37 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): Daughter is somewhat more easily explained than Father I suppose

38 PM

Carol (Guest): I think so–I know I complain about that alit! :38 PM

Carol (Guest): A lot. People are responsible too to go study, but it also has to be available in the parish

Jun 19, 7:39 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): We are made in the image and likeness of God and adopted by God and i f we are female, then obviously daughters

7:39 PM

Dawn (Guest): yes, daughters

Jun 19, 7:39 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): except that today even gender is questioned

9 PM

Dawn (Guest): not in my mind

Jun 19, 7:40 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): or mine

0 PM

Dawn (Guest): we must not cooperate

Jun 19, 7:40 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): but Father is harder to explain I suppose

Carol , 7:40 PM

Carol (Guest): We were created male and female. We also live in a fallen world where a person can be ill through no fault of theirvown

Jun 19, 7:41 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): yes

Jun 19, 7:41 PM

Dawn (Guest): I think of Father as the Head, as the one who orders

:41 PM

Carol (Guest): So if a person’s biology is messed up, they will be too 9, 7:42 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): any kind of physical discomfit affects us 3 PM

Carol (Guest): Yes, and then the final battle is over the family, and families are being torn apart

Jun 19, 7:43 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): Why do you believe God reveals Himself to us as “Father”? God is pure spirit (cf. John 4:24) and has no sex/gender. So, what does this term “Father” mean? What can it teach us about biological/earthly fatherhood?

9, 7:44 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): Yes we are in that battle now Carol

Jun 19, 7:44 PM

Carol (Guest): Father is the source of life, which the mother receives

PM

Sr Susan (Guest): He is the creator, from whom the persons of the trinity proceed 46 PM

Dawn (Guest): a good question. 7:47 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): Father is the head but is that because in the Godhead God the Father is the one from whom the others proceed? :47 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): Father is the head but is that because in the Godhead God the Father is the one from whom the others proceed?

Jun 19, 7:48 PM

Dawn (Guest): Yes. I believe this is true

Jun 19, 7:48 PM

Carol (Guest): Yes, I think so. But human fathers aren’t to actvas though they are God with their wives and children

Jun 19, 7:48 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): Also true!

, 7:49 PM

Carol (Guest): Human fathers are the head, but they act in cooperation, not in dictatorship

Jun 19, 7:49 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): good distinction

19, 7:50 PM

Dawn (Guest): but they do have the authority, from God the Father, to head the household . a distinct difference from the Mother

Jun 19, 7:50 PM

Dawn (Guest): Spiritual authority over the household

Jun 19, 7:50 PM

Carol (Guest): Sure, I’m quibbling about the right way to exercise that

Dawn (Guest): I do not mean tyrant. I just see so much confusion. I recall era when everything was turned upside down and I suppose it is the same today still. worse 3 PM

Dawn (Guest): Did StF ever speak of a chastisement coming upon us?

Jun 19, 7:53 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): Not that I know of, no

Jun 19, 7:54 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): He wasan optimist too

:54 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): of course I have not read all he wrote Much is not translated yet

Jun 19, 7:54 PM

Carol (Guest): I am amazed at how many people are posting openly about private revelation all, over the internet

Jun 19, 7:54 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): Yes and we were warned about that too

Jun 19, 7:54 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): Though many of it all agrees

holy and charitable.” What does this mean? 9 PM

Dawn (Guest): is grave meaning a deep joy?

Jun 19, 7:59 PM

Carol (Guest): Although He did tell St Faustina that this was the last chance for mercy

Jun 19, 8:00 PM

Dawn (Guest): oh he did Carol, thank you

Jun 19, 8:00 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): serious joy I guess not frivolous joy

:00 PM

Patti (Guest): Holy and charitable joy is grave in that it is a serious obligation, I think. 1 PM

Dawn (Guest): something to think about Patti. is it an obligation ? 1 PM

Carol (Guest): Yes, because joy is the opposite of despair, and despair is a sin

Jun 19, 8:02 PM

Patti (Guest): I think it’s an obligation for those who seek conscious contact with God.

8:02 PM

Patti (Guest): I think it’s an obligation for those who seek conscious contact with God.

Jun 19, 8:03 PM

Dawn (Guest): Everything we receive is from God, it is his grace not our own. except we are to cooperate with his will

Jun 19, 8:03 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): q: Discuss this slight disagreement with St. Francis and this other priest about whether someone can go a day without committing a venial sin. Do you think this is possible or not? 04 PM

Carol (Guest): Probably not

Jun 19, 8:04 PM

Dawn (Guest): I believe it is true we can not, be it in action word or thought

, 8:05 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): one can have many negative thoughts throughout the day- whether that is a venial sin or not I do not know but I do know that monks used to confess their thoughts to their spiritual father 06 PM

Carol (Guest): The thought might not be a sin, but it could lead to sin if we are not watchful

Jun 19, 8:06 PM

Patti (Guest): We can probably not go a full day without at least a venial sin. This, a trusted spiritual director is so important. The struggle is real.

:07 PM

Dawn (Guest): It is quite real. n 19, 8:08 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): yet so few go to confession and many say they don’t have sins

9, 8:09 PM

Dawn (Guest): yes, if we linger on a thought. Confession is so important. it casts aside the evil one promptly 09 PM

Carol (Guest): Yes, examination of conscience is scary. Society tells us we are all good people so we dont have to worry 11 PM

Dawn (Guest): I think of confession as a revealing of how the devil is working in us 1 PM

Carol (Guest): Yes, I have. I still do sometimes

Jun 19, 8:11 PM

Patti (Guest): Examination of conscience should be daily I think. Perhaps confession should also be daily.

9, 8:12 PM

Dawn (Guest): Yes Patti. esp now 8:12 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): daily confession vs a person with scuples? How can one know which it is , 8:13 PM

Dawn (Guest): oh dear. good point Sr Susan :13 PM

Carol (Guest): Yes, because it could be either, are there any saints’ story’s

Jun 19, 8:14 PM

Patti (Guest): Scruples may be more common than we think. We have to ask our confessor and abide by his word..

Jun 19, 8:14 PM

Dawn (Guest): HOw easy it could be to fall into scruples!

19, 8:14 PM

Carol (Guest): Far too easy!  PM

Sr Susan (Guest): so the point Ptti made about the director is important

Jun 19, 8:15 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): Patti

 PM

Dawn (Guest): if one has a director. or access. But God will provide what we need if our desire is Him :17 PM

Patti (Guest): So in this time of pandemic, how can we attend daily confession? PM

Dawn (Guest): this would depend on a Holy Priest willing to shepard his people

Jun 19, 8:17 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): maybe in a monastery with a chaplain

19, 8:18 PM

Carol (Guest): Depends on the day and the speaker PM

Sr Susan (Guest): q: the note in the text tells us that this woman eventually was swayed by Jansenism for a time. Essentially, this is a belief that God’s grace makes an effect on us without an assent from our free will and that God can dictate our futures in this way. This is a heresy. What makes this wrong? Don’t we need God’s grace in order to do anything?

Jun 19, 8:19 PM

Dawn (Guest): One parish near by is very strict and obedient to the gov. another parish has never abandoned the people although early on took senisble precautions.

PM

Patti (Guest): True. In my case, getting to a monastery from my apartment is not possible alone. I would say that the pandemic persists, because I am still required to wear a mask on church. 9, 8:20 PM

Dawn (Guest): oh dear. Im sorry 20 PM

Carol (Guest): We do need grace for everything, but we must accept it, or leave Jesus standing at the door 19, 8:21 PM

Dawn (Guest): He will see us through this 19, 8:23 PM

Patti (Guest): I do trust that He will.  PM

Dawn (Guest): To be near a monastery would be such a gift I think. I think of it, going to Mass with Sisters. it would be Divine

Jun 19, 8:24 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): Our neighbors here like having us around

9, 8:24 PM

Patti (Guest): Indeed it would! n 19, 8:25 PM

Dawn (Guest): They are surely blessed!

Jun 19, 8:25 PM

Carol (Guest): I bet they do, Sister!

PM

Sr Susan (Guest): one woman told us that her guests remarked that her apt seemed so peaceful She answered that it is because of the presence of Jesus in the monastery  PM

Jun 19, 8:26 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): Patti, glad you joined us tonight!

Jun 19, 8:26 PM

Patti (Guest): Oh how lovely.

Jun 19, 8:26 PM

Carol (Guest): He is doing it, and the neighbors dont know  PM

Patti (Guest): Me too. My physical pain is much relieved by chatting online with like-minded persons. So thanks for being here. :28 PM

Dawn (Guest): The one parish I attend, the priest has begun offering Adoration every day after Mass for one hour. and open for confessions. every day. I believe this is grace from God and upon him for doing as God wills him as a priest

Jun 19, 8:28 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): You are welcome We are here every Sunday

Jun 19, 8:28 PM

Carol (Guest): You’re welcome Patti, I hope you come back

 8:28 PM

Carol (Guest): How may we pray for you?  19, 8:29 PM

Dawn (Guest): Thank you Patti, please do come back

Jun 19, 8:29 PM

Patti (Guest): I would greatly appreciate your prayers!

30 PM

Sr Susan (Guest): God bless each of you and have a wonderful Feast of the Sacred Heart next Friday!
