FORTITUDE is love that encourages and animates the heart so as to carry out what counsel has determined must be done.

Jun 5, 7:33 PM

Simone (Guest): PIETY is the love that sweetens labor and makes us with good heart gratitude and filial affection do works that please God our Father.

FEAR is simply love as it causes us to fly and shun what is displeasing to God’s majesty.”

PM

Simone (Guest): St. Francis de Sales shares his insights on the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. He says, “These gifts are not only inseparable from charity, but they are the principal virtues, properties, and qualities of charity.

Jun 5, 7:32 PM

Simone (Guest): this is the first line

Jun 5, 7:32 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Yes that its where did you get it

Jun 5, 7:32 PM

Carol (Guest): Hi Ruth

Jun 5, 7:33 PM

Simone (Guest): WISDOM is nothing else than the love that relishes, tastes, and experiences how sweet and gentle God is.

UNDERSTANDING is nothing else than love attentive to consider and penetrate the beauty of the truths of faith.

SCIENCE is simply the same love keeping us attentive to know ourselves and creatures to obtain a more perfect knowledge of the service we owe to God.

Jun 5, 7:33 PM

SrSusan (Guest): That is not an easy q either

5 PM

SrSusan (Guest): I had an interesting pre Pentecost retreat. One of the statements in the book refers to charity and said there is only one LOVE , one charity because God is love and He is one

Jun 5, 7:35 PM

Carol (Guest): That charity is not just giving away what you don’t want, at no cost to yourself

Jun 5, 7:35 PM

Carol (Guest): If it cost you nothing it wasnt charity

Jun 5, 7:36 PM

Simone (Guest): hmm. you are both going in interesting directions

, 7:37 PM

Simone (Guest): I think, that this ONE LOVE – has different ways to be expressed – like I can express my love for my daughter in smiling at her – cooking for her. – paying for her voice lessons –

M

Carol (Guest): Love is not static, it is an action, not just an emotion5, 7:38 PM

Simone (Guest): Yes Carol . so right.. plus a decision

Jun 5, 7:38 PM

Simone (Guest): let’s start with the first gift

Jun 5, 7:38 PM

Simone (Guest): WISDOM is nothing else than the love that relishes, tastes, and experiences how sweet and gentle God is.

39 PM

Simone (Guest): St. Francis de Sales wrote that by the way.. not me

Jun 5, 7:39 PM

SrSusan (Guest): when we picked gifts tonite that’s the one I got

 PM

SrSusan (Guest): when we picked gifts tonite that’s the one I got

Jun 5, 7:39 PM

Simone (Guest): so what does that mean, that you “got” it -Sister?

Jun 5, 7:39 PM

SrSusan (Guest): But I would not have described it the way he did so I have lots to learn

Jun 5, 7:39 PM

SrSusan (Guest): We pick cards with gifts on them

Jun 5, 7:40 PM

Simone (Guest): I think your definition and St. Francis definition might well co-exist side by side

 PM

Simone (Guest): so. when you get Wisdom Sr. Susan. Does that mean – you are encouraged to pray to receive Wisdom?

Jun 5, 7:40 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Yes and that the gift will be operative in me this year we take it on faith

7:40 PM

Simone (Guest): ooh.. interesting

Jun 5, 7:40 PM

Carol (Guest): I always think of wisdom as the inspiration that guides us to right action

 7:41 PM

Simone (Guest): I write the definition one more time here

Jun 5, 7:41 PM

Simone (Guest): WISDOM is nothing else than the love that relishes, tastes, and experiences how sweet and gentle God is.

41 PM

Simone (Guest): I guess- when we apply God’s goodness in a gentle way – then wisdom is practiced

Jun 5, 7:41 PM

SrSusan (Guest): I would lean more to Carol’s definition

2 PM

Simone (Guest): Me too

Jun 5, 7:42 PM

SrSusan (Guest): but also you make a good point Simone, it is a way to expand my understanding of wisdom

5, 7:42 PM

Carol (Guest): But there is something deeper in this definition

Jun 5, 7:42 PM

Simone (Guest): let me ask you. WHY do we want – or should be wise even?

 5, 7:43 PM

SrSusan (Guest): to discern God’s will

Jun 5, 7:43 PM

Simone (Guest): Ruth.. you have to type in blind faith tonight. Literally

M

Carol (Guest): We can save ourselves endless pain and frustration being wise

Jun 5, 7:44 PM

Simone (Guest): yes. to discern God’s will.

Jun 5, 7:44 PM

Simone (Guest): so. when we look at the definition again

Jun 5, 7:44 PM

Simone (Guest): WISDOM is nothing else than the love that relishes, tastes, and experiences how sweet and gentle God is.

4 PM

Simone (Guest): How does that help to discern?  PM

Carol (Guest): The first step to wisdom is to turn to God 7:45 PM

Simone (Guest): Even the desire to discern – is already an action of love for GOD I find

Jun 5, 7:45 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Confidence that His will is of love for us

45 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Confidence that His will is of love for us

Jun 5, 7:46 PM

Simone (Guest): Yes. That’s what I was thinking too

Jun 5, 7:46 PM

Simone (Guest): I think the wisest thing we can do – is always to merge HIS love for us with our love for him. Any action that is rooted in that, only can be wise. What do you think ladies?

:47 PM

Carol (Guest): Because then the spirit will determine our actions

Jun 5, 7:47 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Yes union with Him

7:47 PM

Simone (Guest): I love how you both rephrase that. 8 PM

Simone (Guest): So, trying to be sensitive to time.. let’s move to the next one now

Jun 5, 7:48 PM

Simone (Guest): UNDERSTANDING is nothing else than love attentive to consider and penetrate the beauty of the truths of faith.

:48 PM

Simone (Guest): Do you want to say anything to that definition?

Jun 5, 7:49 PM

SrSusan (Guest): seems clear at first glance

49 PM

Carol (Guest): Is that also sometimes the truth in another person?  7:49 PM

Simone (Guest): Usually understanding is linked with the intellect and the heart with love- but St. Francis links the intellect with the heart here:50 PM

Simone (Guest): what do you mean by “truth in another person” Carol? 0 PM

Carol (Guest): Because we are to surrender our intellect as well 5, 7:51 PM

Simone (Guest): yes, I think so too51 PM

Simone (Guest): an intellect that succumbs to love – opens real understanding

Jun 5, 7:52 PM

Simone (Guest): here is the definition one more tim

Jun 5, 7:52 PM

SrSusan (Guest): It takes love to want to understand the truths of faith

Jun 5, 7:52 PM

Simone (Guest): UNDERSTANDING is nothing else than love attentive to consider and penetrate the beauty of the truths of faith.

7:52 PM

Simone (Guest): it says “love attentive to consider”5, 7:52 PM

Simone (Guest): consider and penetrate -2 PM

Simone (Guest): the word penetrate is strong, I find3 PM

Carol (Guest): It is probably a more aggressive term now than when this was written

Jun 5, 7:53 PM

Simone (Guest): understanding -as a Gift of the Holy Spirit – is an entering of Faith – not just stopping on the intellectual level

PM

Simone (Guest): I remember how I “understood” the bible and the Christian Faith differently before the Holy Spirit came into me5 PM

Simone (Guest): it was more like a worldview before

Jun 5, 7:55 PM

Simone (Guest): exchangeable – if new arguments – good arguments would come along

Jun 5, 7:55 PM

Simone (Guest): after the Holy Spirit – my identity was so linked with it -my inner being – that no good worldly argument could have separated me from it

Jun 5, 7:56 PM

Carol (Guest): And now it is not exchangeable. You know it with your heart not your head

Jun 5, 7:56 PM

Simone (Guest): Yes Carol. Exactly. In a way it “penetrated” me

7 PM

SrSusan (Guest): powerful experience you had7 PM

Simone (Guest): I was so blessed Sr. Susan

Jun 5, 7:57 PM

Ruth (Guest): Beautiful!

Jun 5, 7:57 PM

Simone (Guest): oh Ruth.. good to see you being active now

Jun 5, 7:58 PM

Carol (Guest): It is an amazing experience, isn’t it?

8 PM

Simone (Guest): I still smile

Jun 5, 7:58 PM

Carol (Guest): Me too….

Jun 5, 7:58 PM

Simone (Guest): <3

Jun 5, 7:58 PM

Simone (Guest): that should be a heart

Jun 5, 7:59 PM

Carol (Guest): Oh, no emojis on mine at all

Jun 5, 7:59 PM

Simone (Guest): I just want to give quickly room here -if anyone has had a special insight this Pentecost? Anything from a sermon – or your personal holy reading.. Let us know here

5, 8:00 PM

SrSusan (Guest): that we are to love one another with the Holy Spirit

 PM

Simone (Guest): Ithat’s wonderful Carol

Jun 5, 8:01 PM

Ruth (Guest): I can relate well to what you are saying here. My conscious faith — though initiated by baptism — became mine, truly, deeply, in the sense that I knew that the rest of my lofe would have to be lived in union with God who is so much grater than my little “experiment” in Faith could reach by all my efforts to “findl the TRUTH.

Jun 5, 8:01 PM

Elena (Guest): Howdy. Sorry I’m late.

Jun 5, 8:04 PM

Elena (Guest): Happy Pentecost!

5 PM

Simone (Guest): COUNSEL is also love, as it renders us careful attentive and skilled in choosing the means proper to serve God in a holy manner.  PM

SrSusan (Guest): ok

Jun 5, 8:06 PM

Simone (Guest): I love the definition… but I would not think that he defines COUNSEL.. maybe a language barrier for me

Jun 5, 8:06 PM

Ruth (Guest): Iteresting that we approach this, and rightly so, through our Christian culture.

Jun 5, 8:06 PM

Simone (Guest): Ruth.. what do you mean? Can you flesh that out a bit?

Jun 5, 8:06 PM

Carol (Guest): Again I am probably being too self in hear, but I hear counsel as being obedient to the Spirit but also advising people

Jun 5, 8:07 PM

Simone (Guest): help me to understand how “counsel” could mean being obedient. I am missing something here

8:08 PM

Carol (Guest): The Holy Spirit counsels me

Jun 5, 8:08 PM

Simone (Guest): oooooh.. now I understand.. thanks

Jun 5, 8:08 PM

Simone (Guest): I can be quite slow sometimes

Jun 5, 8:08 PM

Carol (Guest): Which leads to discernment

9 PM

Carol (Guest): You’re not slow, I go down rabbit trails

Jun 5, 8:09 PM

Simone (Guest): does anyone share a scenario – where that would apply?

Jun 5, 8:09 PM

Ruth (Guest): John Wolf, a Lakota, I think, considering the sacredness of the buffalo 🦬, writes, There is a simple doorway which must be walked through to access the deep knowledge, wisdom and beauty that the Yellowstone buffalo offer uss

:10 PM

SrSusan (Guest): when we think of a spiritual counselor or director they guide us lovingly

Jun 5, 8:10 PM

Simone (Guest): Ruth – you mean – stepping out from just the intellectual realm?

Jun 5, 8:10 PM

Simone (Guest): and every spiritual counsellor should only lead where the HOLY SPIRIT guides

Jun 5, 8:13 PM

Simone (Guest): Ladies.. I am just so curious – in what area do you think does the Holy Spirit comes mostly through in you?

Jun 5, 8:13 PM

Simone (Guest): general speaking.. don’t try to find right “theological boxes”.. What comes to your mind?

Jun 5, 8:14 PM

Simone (Guest): Where do you feel the power of the Holy Spirit at work in you?

Jun 5, 8:15 PM

Carol (Guest): People talk to me about their spiritual questions. I try to hear where they are and ask the Spirit for what will bring them close

15 PM

Simone (Guest): If you do not want to speak about yourself — then you can also answer ” How did the Holy Spirit in another person blessed you recently?” 8:15 PM

Simone (Guest): Carol .. you are basically doing the work of a Spiritual Director. Wonderful16 PM

Carol (Guest): Its funny because it always happens when I am seeing someone about their insurance

Jun 5, 8:16 PM

Simone (Guest): I also find, that the Spirit works in me – when I sit with someone who is either confused spiritually – or stuck

Jun 5, 8:16 PM

SrSusan (Guest): The Spirit works in me without my being aware of it

8:17 PM

Simone (Guest): Yes Sr. that is true too.. and nevertheless – we often have an area- where we just naturally are efficient without trying – or where the results just seem “blessed”. Often an area we do not even value ourselves – because it comes so naturally to us 5, 8:18 PM

Simone (Guest): for some it’s singing – some people can pray in a way – that is just different than the rest of us – some people have insights – that bring forth God’s thoughts

Jun 5, 8:19 PM

Jun 5, 8:19 PM

Carol (Guest): Some people can listen and HEAR

Jun 5, 8:19 PM

Ruth (Guest): Yes, heart and mind together. Other cultures recognize this, too. Not comparing the buffalo to the Holy Spirit, but what we might call being infused with the Holy Spirit others, who may never have heard of the Holy Spirit, may think of as lstepping through a doorway” being confronted by a whole new perspective, vision, experience of seeing, a new view, whichUNITES heart and mind. The intellect can see the value of the buffalo but the heart is lifted to a new place when the animal’s magnificence strikes o

PM

Ruth (Guest): one and the buffalo is then seen as worthy of our admiration and protection.

Jun 5, 8:21 PM

Simone (Guest): I once heard a story of a woman – an atheist – going into a church – someone sang the AVE MARIA while she was there -it touched her heart so deeply – that she started to research the words – and in the end became a believer through this. I firmly believe that the Holy Spirit has used the singing of this person in the church – but maybe the singer was not even aware of it.

Jun 5, 8:21 PM

Elena (Guest): Ladies, sorry but I need to duck out early. A blessed Pentecost, again. Have a blessed week!

PM

Simone (Guest): What do you think is the role of the Holy Spirit in Salesian Spirituality?

Jun 5, 8:23 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Central to St Francis de Sales I think

23 PM

Simone (Guest): I think so too. Want to say something more about it Sister?

Jun 5, 8:23 PM

SrSusan (Guest): Well from a Visitandine perspective the Holy Spirit was a major Person in the passage of the Visitation

:24 PM

Simone (Guest): so true

Jun 5, 8:24 PM

Simone (Guest): Have you ever been to EIN KAREM Sister?

Jun 5, 8:24 PM

SrSusan (Guest): no

8:24 PM

Simone (Guest): this is the place where apparently the “Visitation” happened in real life

Jun 5, 8:24 PM

Simone (Guest): Me neither.. But I looked at pictures this week

:25 PM

Simone (Guest): Back to the question about the role of the Holy Spirit in Salesian Spirituality

Jun 5, 8:26 PM

Simone (Guest): Salesian Spirituality is always linked with “loving well” – loving as God loves.. so the Holy Spirit has to be central I think

7 PM

Simone (Guest): Our time is coming to an end. I think Ruth said it well.. “stepping into another dimension” – and that it truly is..

Jun 5, 8:28 PM

Carol (Guest): think that is an excellent analogy

Jun 5, 8:28 PM

Simone (Guest): we are linked with the heavenly realm through the Spirit

Jun 5, 8:28 PM

Simone (Guest): That is the gift of Pentecost

, 8:29 PM

SrSusan (Guest): This evening has been a gift Thank you! God bless!
