VisitationSr (Guest): Hi Dawn!

VisitationSr
(Guest): I will post first q: How can we “cling too jealously to the purity of faith,” as St. Francis describes it? 8, 7:32 PM

Carol (Guest): Is clinging jealously what we would call scruples?

Aug 28, 7:32 PM

Carol (Guest): I’m excited, and a little nervous

 7:33 PM

VisitationSr (Guest): scruples yes that could enter in for sure as one wuld be afraid of one’s temptations

Aug 28, 7:34 PM

Carol (Guest): I thought this would never come

Aug 28, 7:34 PM

Dawn (Guest): As I was reading our questions, I wondered if temptations are more than I considered? Im thinking about this

Aug 28, 7:35 PM

Carol (Guest): I think you are right though. Temptations will always come. The trick is not to invite them jn for tea

Ruth (Guest): Ah ha, Carol. That’s probably what that means. I was not at all sure. , 7:39 PM

VisitationSr (Guest): Purity of faith should be held on to but without anxiety

VisitationSr (Guest): q 2How can we be better at ignoring/avoiding temptations, when they almost seem to saturate our everyday lives? g 28, 7:41 PM

Carol (Guest): One way is to monitor what we watch on TV and read 7:41 PM

Ruth (Guest): BE NOT AFRAID! How many times is that repeated in the bible? And St. JP2 often repeated it and he LIVED IT.

Aug 28, 7:42 PM

Dawn (Guest): by praying unceaseingly, going into prayer at the first thought!

42 PM

VisitationSr (Guest): Saturate is quite a heavy word- I guess one can become unaware of temptations?

Aug 28, 7:43 PM

VisitationSr (Guest): Welcome Mary!

8, 7:43 PM

Dawn (Guest): my temptations seem to be thinking poorly about a situation, or someone, or myself… 8, 7:44 PM

VisitationSr (Guest): negative thinking is one for me 4 PM

Dawn (Guest): yes, it is negative thinking

Aug 28, 7:44 PM

Ruth (Guest): I don’t even have a TV. So much to do! But sometimes I let the iPad distract me And don’t do other things that sre more important. I could for example, LISTEN news on the radio while washing dishes or doing hand wash.

Aug 28, 7:45 PM

Carol (Guest): And I like To “figure things out’, AKA CONTROL

:45 PM

Mary (Guest): Hi everyone..Temptations are daily at our sides; best way to avoid is thru Mass & Eucharist..daily prayer & spending time at Adoration…so I try to keep my eyes & heart on the Light which is Jesus ..difficult at times but just calling on His help wors for me

Aug 28, 7:45 PM

Dawn (Guest): yes Carol 46 PM

VisitationSr (Guest): q 3 St. Francis mentions the dizzying success of establishing 33 brand-new parishes, effectively on his preaching alone. And yet he described the hardships and called some situations awkward. Sometimes we imagine the Saints did everything swimmingly and without a snag. What do you think of this7:46 PM

Mary (Guest): Thank you Sister & all..Have written all prayers for our rosary prayerline..keep you Carol in my prayers as you journey toward profession..I am secular franciscan

Aug 28, 7:47 PM

Dawn (Guest): I think that is amazing he established so many parishes, alone but with Jesus

:48 PM

Carol (Guest): Mary, we are of the same tribe! Mine place is John Michael Talbot’s littleportion.org

Aug 28, 7:48 PM

Ruth (Guest): Exactly, Mary. Some times, though, I am tempted to be sad or frustrated because I cannot get to Mass, and yet my efforts to get the transportation problems solved could be more FOCUSED. Bring indecision, too, to the Lord.

Mary (Guest): Lokk at St Monica whose feast day we just celebrated.. she wept copioisly but continued her prayers for conversion of her son St augustine for almost 20 yrs..I pray for that type of strength & courage when I have to suffer for christ

Aug 28, 7:54 PM

VisitationSr (Guest): Saints really suffered in all that they did, challenges, opposition etc. Just like us

7:55 PM

VisitationSr (Guest): St Augustine as was just mentioned with his mom St Monica, he suffered interiorly as he made many false starts looking for Truth28, 7:55 PM

Ruth (Guest): Yes, beautiful! And Whatever suffering comes our way CAN be offered up as prayer forthose or someone who needs it. We never know what good surrender to unavoidable suffering may bring. 7:55 PM

Carol (Guest): The difference is I think that they did not fight their crosses

Aug 28, 7:56 PM

VisitationSr (Guest): surrendered more?

Carol (Guest): Yes, I think so

Aug 28, 7:56 PM

Aug 28, 8:00 PM

Ruth (Guest): A dear friend, RoseAnn Hickey, died very quickly from pancreatic cancer. She was a drivver for me for several of my surgeries in Albany and Burlington. So kind and thoughtful! Two prior cancer battles made her incredibly compassionate. And she had already lost all of her brothers snd sisters to cancer.

Aug 28, 8:02 PM

Ruth (Guest): Do you know the rosary of Our Lady of Sorrows? 7×7 Hail Marys

Aug 28, 8:02 PM

Dawn (Guest): any similarities ?

8, 8:03 PM

Mary (Guest): So sorry for your loss Ruth..Will remember her in my prayers

Aug 28, 8:04 PM

Carol (Guest): Yes, insay it, or a variation of it, every day

Aug 28, 8:04 PM

Carol (Guest): I cannot think of any similarities, but then I dont know enough

Aug 28, 8:05 PM

Mary (Guest): Yes have been saying Mother of Sorrows rosary each week with another group but please check out story of the plaque that wept..St Paul II visited & said Mass at the Basilica 2 times diuring his papacy & also requested plaque be brought to hospital when dying..there is videocassette available (1/2 hr) explaining details of miracle.

Aug 28, 8:05 PM

Ruth (Guest): Thank you. Many people will miss her. I would not be surprised if the Bishop shows up for her funeral. She once was a youth minister for the Diocese. And was Regent to the Catholic Daughters until her death.

Carol (Guest): RoseAnn will be greatly missed

Mary (Guest): your very welcome..will pray for all guests on here at my Mass tomorrow & to Our Lady of Tears & for Visitation sisters 8:09 PM

Ruth (Guest): Mary, Where do you live? Sarah, the President of Our Landy of the Adirondacks House of Prayer is a Third Order Franciscsn.

Aug 28, 8:09 PM

Dawn (Guest): I say sudden because there was no warning or symptoms

 8:10 PM

Carol (Guest): Its frightening how often there are no symptoms til its too late

Aug 28, 8:10 PM

Dawn (Guest): praying for all those who are diagnosed with cancer, mothers, fathers, and the many little children

8, 8:11 PM

VisitationSr (Guest): So many people in need- prayer is such a necessity! 8:11 PM

Dawn (Guest): yes!

Aug 28, 8:11 PM

Ruth (Guest): Funny, I had a friend who considered himself to be Dominican — a lay man, with a family, a Dean at St. John’s U — who told me that I am a Franciscan.

Ruth (Guest): I don’t think he or I at that time were thinking I would study St. Francis de SALES spirituality. 8:15 PM

VisitationSr (Guest): St Francis de Sales was named after the Franciscan- in fact after 2 Francis Bonaventure is de Sales names q Consider 1 Peter 1:6-7, “In this you rejoice, though now for a little while you may have to suffer various trials, so that the genuineness of your faith, more precious than gold which though perishable is tested by fire, may redound to praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” And how does this not con

contradict the Lord’s prayer when we are told to pray, “lead us not into temptation”? 7 PM

Mary (Guest): The Good God leads us in various directions..as long as we daily abandon ourselves to Him and ask to do His will..He will never abandon those who seek Him

Aug 28, 8:17 PM

Ruth (Guest): I didn’t know that, Sister.

Aug 28, 8:18 PM

Carol (Guest): I know God does not lead us in to temptation. I always think lead me far, far away from it

Aug 28, 8:18 PM

Ruth (Guest): Thank you for the important reminder, Mary

:19 PM

Dawn (Guest): could the lead us not into temptation refer to the various trials we need to suffer?

Aug 28, 8:20 PM

VisitationSr (Guest): If I am not mistaken St Francis de Sales belonged to Franciscans in some manner- I will have to research that reference

Aug 28, 8:20 PM

VisitationSr (Guest): yes Dawn I think possibly

PM

VisitationSr (Guest): However, he accepted affiliation to the First Order of St Francis from the Capuchins in 1617; and his spirit undoubtedly has a close kinship with that of the Seraphic Saint. He once told the Capuchins that he belonged to the Franciscan Order by special ties; and in 1609, the holy bishop, girded with the cord, preached a beautiful sermon and took part in the traditional procession of the arch-confraternity.The Portiuncula Chapel at Assisi was especially dear to Saint Francis de Sales because of the great spi

Aug 28, 8:23 PM

VisitationSr (Guest): great spiritual favors he received here. At Evian, on the south shore of Lake Gereva, St Francis of Assisi appeared to him and said:

“You desire martyrdom, just as I once longed for it. But, like me, you will not obtain it. You will have to become an instrument of your own martyrdom.”

:23 PM

Ruth (Guest): Somehow the rest of the page disappeared. “Lead us not into temptation” I read, actually does NOT suggest that God or His Holy Spirit EVER leads us into temptation to sin. Poor translation that we repeat over and over again. And trials? I don’t know.

Aug 28, 8:24 PM

Mary (Guest): Thru our Baptism we are united with Christ & therefore are asked to pick up our cross & follow in His footsteps thereby uniting ourselves with Christ on Calvary and not for our glory.. but for the honor & glory of the Blessed Trinity..

Aug 28, 8:24 PM
