Related to the opening paragraph in this letter, discuss this quote from Mother Teresa: “God doesn’t require us to succeed, he only requires that you try.”What exactly is humility?St. Paul tells us that one of the main “perks” of celibacy (and thereby religious life) is a more dedicated ability to focus on prayer and growing in holiness: “the unmarried woman or girl is anxious about the affairs of the Lord, how to be holy in body and spirit; but the married woman is anxious about worldly affairs” (1 Corinth

Visitation Sr (Guest): first q Related to the opening paragraph in this letter, discuss this quote from Mother Teresa: “God doesn’t require us to succeed, he only requires that you try.”What exactly is humility

Jul 31, 7:32 PM

Carol (Guest): How is it up in the mountains?

Jul 31, 7:33 PM

Carol (Guest): Humility is knowing that we are doing things through Him and not on our own

Jul 31, 7:34 PM

Visitation Sr (Guest): Mother Theresa’s quote helps to keep us in that stance of humility from the start and evidences a goal that is in itself an example of humility

Jul 31, 7:34 PM

Visitation Sr (Guest): by not shooting for success but effort

Jul 31, 7:34 PM

Visitation Sr (Guest): Hi Ruth!

6 PM

Dawn (Guest): Yes, to never give up37 PM

Visitation Sr (Guest): and it is almost startling to hear from Mother Thersa that God Himself does not require us to suceed!

7:38 PM

Dawn (Guest): that is put so clear and beautiful Sr Susan. truth is beautiful

Jul 31, 7:38 PM

Visitation Sr (Guest): we don’t usually think like that

, 7:39 PM

Carol (Guest): No. We usually think of success in worldy terms. Not always bad, but not necessarily what God had in mind:41 PM

Visitation Sr (Guest): I guess it can help those who feel that they fail frequently – it is not important if they put their best efforts in:41 PM

Ruth (Guest): What is success? In the situation St. F. addresses, it is leading the souls who are in the charge of the new proprioress toward holiness. 7:42 PM

Visitation Sr (Guest): which is awesome and very understandable why the prioress would be nervous and need St Francis’ insights43 PM

Ruth (Guest): I like Carol’s first comment, recognizing that it is God working in and through us; that we can accomplish nothing on our own.

Jul 31, 7:43 PM

Carol (Guest): I would certainly be nervous being in charge of souls!

4 PM

Visitation Sr (Guest): Ultimately God has the souls in His Hand but we guide them to that Hand

Jul 31, 7:44 PM

Dawn (Guest): Yes. a bit like being in charge of your first newborn

, 7:45 PM

Visitation Sr (Guest): Yes and parents are also in charge of their children’s souls I believe45 PM

Carol (Guest): A mind boggling responsibility 5 PM

Visitation Sr (Guest): q But in this letter St. Francis refers to the prioress’s office as a “burden.” Why is that?

l 31, 7:46 PM

Dawn (Guest): yes they are, the Father has authority first over household wife and children. oh! , 7:47 PM

Carol (Guest): I imagine it is a burden because the requests and demands for your time and wisdom never end , 7:48 PM

Visitation Sr (Guest): I think of it more as a cross but it comes to the same thing I guesser 7:49 PM

Visitation Sr (Guest): q Why do we say that God’s strength is made manifest in infirmity? Think of 2 Corinthians 12:9, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. 9 PM

Dawn (Guest): any place of responsibility can be a burden , a trial, a cross

Jul 31, 7:49 PM

Ruth (Guest): So much in the Imitation of Christ is about humility, often as thinking ourselves the worst of the worst, thatI started thinking a lot about this in eighth grade when I received that book from a former math teacher. And at the same time was learning about confidence and it’s importance to achieve anything. I concluded that humility was being face to face with the TRUTH, seeing ourselves as God sees us.

7:50 PM

Visitation Sr (Guest): We need to ask for His way of seeing things  31, 7:50 PM

Carol (Guest): Because it makes it clear it was God not us 51 PM

Carol (Guest): It is a Co tradition though to say we must have confidence in ourselves, and at the same time no confidence

Jul 31, 7:51 PM

Visitation Sr (Guest): Jesus often uses very weak people to do His work to show it is Him, not the person

Jul 31, 7:51 PM

Visitation Sr (Guest): what is CO mean

 31, 7:53 PM :52 PM

Carol (Guest): Oh dear, i think I meant to type contradiction

Visitation Sr (Guest): we need confidence in Him

Jul 31, 7:53 PM

Carol (Guest): Ours is a tradition of contradiction l 31, 7:54 PM

Dawn (Guest): yes carol  31, 7:54 PM

Carol (Guest): Like todays Gospel, more is definitely less 5 PM

Visitation Sr (Guest): good example

Jul 31, 7:55 PM

Dawn (Guest): Jesus …I did not come to bring peace, but a sword

l 31, 7:56 PM

Visitation Sr (Guest): so strength is made manifest in infirmity is also a contradiction 56 PM

Carol (Guest): But my yoke is easy and my burden light

Jul 31, 7:56 PM

Ruth (Guest): My how I hope this proves true in my life. Since my injuries and chemo it seems I bungle just about everything, no matter how I try, how careful I am. If he can be glorified through my just keeping on keeping on, that would put meaning and increased joy into every effort.

Jul 31, 7:56 PM

Carol (Guest): As we follow to,the Cross

Jul 31, 7:57 PM

Visitation Sr (Guest): that’s the way to look at it Ruth, 7:58 PM

Visitation Sr (Guest): q St. Francis says, “Our Lord does not want us to ask for bread to last us a year or a month or a week, but only a day at a time, our daily bread.” Does this mean we do not need to have plans for how we manage our pantry and food

supplies? Or is there something deeper to it (even if still literal

9 PM

Carol (Guest): We do,have to mind our pantries and work for our food. But there is also, spiritual food given us as a gift

Jul 31, 7:59 PM

Visitation Sr (Guest): Salesian spirituality always looks only to the next step

Jul 31, 8:00 PM

Visitation Sr (Guest): one step at a time and that leads to the next and that’s how we follow God’s will

 8:00 PM

Visitation Sr (Guest): ties in with the Gospel- those pantries!!

(Guest): and if we have plans we need to yield to the providential circumstances that occur as we try to live the plans out, as things may change

Jul 31, 8:04 PM

Jul 31, 8:04 PM

Visitation Sr (Guest): I understand alot of USA farmland is being bought up by the rich and the foreign

04 PM

Ruth (Guest): “Give us this day our daily bread” Bishop Baron says refers to — or is better translated as “Super sufficient bread” — the Eucharist, the grace we need to live and carry on the work with which he charges us.

14 PM

Dawn (Guest): in those new situations I would go forward even tho I felt afraid , going foward to completion 1, 8:14 PM

Carol (Guest): I think we all just learn as we go, new parents don’t know how to care for infants but they learn the way from their parents. Its the same in the church 8:15 PM

Visitation Sr (Guest): It is especially hard if you have opposition or someone else wanted the job Takes alot of grace 16 PM

Dawn (Guest): it can be daunting to face a new responsibility. if on one is there. imagine St Francis consoling wisdom! :17 PM

Carol (Guest): The responsibility is such that no one who wants power shhouldnnever be anywhere near the office  31, 8:17 PM

Visitation Sr (Guest): that’s wisdom speaking Carol, in you ul 31, 8:18 PM

Visitation Sr (Guest): and probably experience l 31, 8:18 PM
