Sister Marília professes religious vows at the Monastery of the Visitation in Barbacena
Sunday of the Solemnity of the Assumption of Our Lady the Monastery of the Order of the Visitation of Santa Maria, in Barbacena (MG), welcomed family, friends and regulars from its chapel to Holy Mass where Sister Marília Aparecida da Silva, 26, made her Solemn Profession. The celebration was presided over by the Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Mariana, Monsignor Luiz Antônio Reis Costa.
In an interview with Catedral de Juiz de Fora radio, Sister Marília Aparecida said that it was after participating in a carnival retreat in 2012, in the Resgate Community, that she felt touched to follow the religious vocation.
The monastic vocation of visitandinas is a peculiar form of consecration to God through the profession of monastic vows, a profound life of prayer and fraternal community life. The Order of the Visitation of St. Mary is a monastic religious order of contemplative charism, founded in 1610 by St Francis de Sales and St Joan a Francisca de Chantal.
The day-to-day life of the sisters is strongly marked by prayer, from when they wake up, at 5:00 a.m., until bedtime, almost always after 9:00 p.m., whether at specific times –Angelus, Laudes, Office of Readings, Middle Hour, Office of Vespers, Prayer of the Complete, Holy Rosary and participation in Holy Mass – or during other tasks related to the maintenance of the monastery.
The daily life of the visiting nun is that of contemplative life. The work they do is in the midst of silence in a life of continuous prayer. They also work with their hands, but the heart is praying, it is always united with God. On the occasion of the Solemn Concelebration everyone was invited to ask God for all vocations, especially those destined for this monastery.
