This Sunday, November 20, is the Solemnity of Christ the King, instituted by Pope Pius XI in 1925. This feast is placed on the last Sunday of the liturgical year, just before the beginning of our preparation for the feast of Christmas: Advent.
The Kingship of Jesus is not a kingship in the manner of this world. King, model of humility, obedience, love who is not satisfied with words, but who gives himself totally in deeds. The Cross, a crown of thorns, a wooden scepter… this is the true Kingship of Christ, the true Kingdom. This Kingdom has no armies… The only “weapons” He proposes to us are Faith, Hope, Charity, Truth and Justice.
He is a King who gave his life to save us.
Will we be able to meet his expectations, his requests?
Will we be able to adhere to Christ the King?
Saint Francis de Sales in theTreatise on the Love of God, (VIII, 3), tells us that we have all our freedom to choose Christ as King or not.
“God wants us to be able to resist Him.
God allows you to resist me
God wants us not to resist Him. »
God leaves us free to resist His Love. He allows us to resist Him because He does not want us to be submissive, He wants us to have the freedom to open our hearts or not.
God wants us not to resist Him, He wants us to open the door to Him.
Let us ask Christ the King for the grace to adhere, not to resist and to plunge into his Love:
Christ the King, reign over our intelligence, for your intelligence surpasses all intelligence.
Christ the King, reign over human wills you, true God and true man who has done God’s will all your life.
Christ the King, you who attract all hearts with your meekness and goodness, let us let ourselves be seized by you, King of our hearts.
O Jesus, King of Glory, enter our hearts, come and reign in our lives,
O Jesus, King of Love, we trust in your merciful goodness!
