The 676 th Pilgrimage to Notre-Dame du Château
Saint Etienne du Grès – Tarascon – Sunday, May 14, 2023

Tarascon can be proud to keep one of the oldest and most
more traditional festivals of Provence. The pilgrimage to Notre-Dame du Château is indeed
a religious and popular tradition with a rich history and past. It is a cult
Virgin, very old, since its origin dates back, according to oral tradition, to the 14th century.
Since the 16th century, is preserved in the chapel of the Alpilles, on the hill of
Saint-Etienne-du-Grès, the ancient statue that is venerated once a year, during
forty days, in the Collegiate Church of Sainte Marthe de Tarascon.
The pilgrimage takes place every year on the Sunday before Ascension Day.
The preparation of this exceptional Pilgrimage lasts all year long

On this Thursday of the Ascension Visitation Sisters in Tarascon had the joy, as every year, to receive the visit of Our Lady of the Castle, coming in procession from the parish of Sainte Marthe with the children who had made their profession of faith: 24 this year! Here is a small sharing of this moment strong of emotion and rich ecclesial communion.
