The astonishing encounter between a modern-day agnostic and St. Margaret Mary
Clémentine Beauvais, a children’s novelist, agnostic and feminist, recounts for “My Life With” her unlikely encounter with her distant ancestor, Saint Marguerite-Marie Alacoque, via a book full of humor and benevolence, Sainte Marguerite-Marie et moi (Qasar editions).
Clémentine Beauvais is a children’s novelist known for her feminist works, not for Catholic hagiographies. And yet, when one of her friends, an editor for the Emmanuel community, learns that she is a distant descendant of Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, she convinces her to write a book about her illustrious ancestor. She tells Olivia de Fournas about this unlikely encounter and how, despite centuries and cultural differences, she felt surprisingly close to the mysticism that helped spread the cult of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in France.
